Because of our excellent experience the last time we moved, we had Applied Moving Systems do our third-floor-condo-to-SFH move this spring. Again, absolutely excellent experience. The movers were on time (actually, about 15 minutes early) friendly and fast, and careful with our furniture. They worked around me cleaning out the condo as they moved, and lots of nooks and crannies in the new home. The lead for the move had actually worked on the team to move us four years prior and was wonderful - so they're doing something right! Stay away from this unprofessional "company." I tried to hire these guys twice for 2 different moves. First time, they wanted to charge me an outrageous $300 to move my upright piano. One of the worst customer experiences I've had, I can't recommend enough AGAINST hiring this company for your next move. Not only did they cancel on me 15 minutes before they were supposed to show up, it was in the form of a rude text message offering no explanation or other suggestions. When I inquired further about their decisions the person with whom I was speaking told me to stop texting them, and if I had "anything to say, call the company." That was the last we had heard from these people even after multiple calls were placed to try and find out what happened. Absolute disaster. Horrible treatment of customers. While some may have had a bad experience, working with Applied Moving was nothing by smooth sailing from my first call to the last piece of furniture being brought in. I had called about 2 weeks before I needed some help with a smaller move. Person who answered the phone was very helpful and provided a very competitive estimate. These folks were absolutely phenomenal. They arrived promptly, and were incredibly efficient in getting a substantial amount of furniture (read: a full bedroom, living room and dining set) down three, terrifying, flights of stairs in under an hour. Which they then managed to Tetris into a 4x10 storage unit. The only problem we had was at my storage unit, where we spent an hour waiting for another truck to get out of our way. They were amazing! They arrived earlier than expected (which was preferred) and got right to work. I moved from a studio with an elevator to a 2br on the 3rd floor with no stairs and the workers remained efficient, kind and professional. I'd never purchased movers before but as I was looking around I saw ridiculous rates. Applied was by far the most reasonable and because of that I felt I had to tip them for their amazing services. They have their own truck and even wrap anything delicate for you. I have a cheap target dresser that I didn't think would make the move, but it arrived just as it was before, plus, I left things inside! Definitely go with this company. You will not regret it. HOLY MOLY! Where do i begin? These guys are FANTASTIC! I moved from Gold Coast to Lincoln Park. They came early (which was fine) and two guys (JR and ... sorry I am blanking on the other guy's name) and were VERY EFFICIENT. They carefully wrapped all of my large items/TV's. When we got to my new place they even assembled my stuff and asked where I wanted things instead of just dumping it in the middle of the floor. They were kind, courteous and funny! The whole move was extremely reasonable and even though it took longer than expected they didn't charge me extra! I would recommend these guys in a heart beat and plan on using them anytime i move. Absolutely wonderful service. Some movers bi#%h and give attitude when you engage by saying things like "this goes there, that needs to be last" but my crew was super nice and worked fast. Beware Applied Moving blanket wrapped a mirror using a dining room bench as a support. They left a huge gouge in the bench. When I contacted Nico about it he was professional and requested pictures. He called me back and stated firmly that the gouge was done by hand. I am the only one that livers here and had just dusted the bench and table the night before. He said he contacted his insurance company and they said the same thing. When I asked for the insurance companies phone number he hung up. Again, there was no damage to the bench 14 hours prior to their arrival. NOT an honorable company if this guy is their lead representative. read more

This review is long overdue. I contacted Applied Moving Systems in September to assist with moving my one-bedroom apartment. Many of the estimates I received were super high and the leg-work to get these estimates were pretty intensive. However, when I called Applied Movers, ZICO gave me a phone estimate and booked my move which was about a week away. ZICO maintained awesome communication and even took care of some last minute logistics associated with insurance bonding that my new building had failed to bring-up until a day before my move. Zico's communication with my building was professional and direct, easily problem solving an issue that would have otherwise forced me to reschedule my move. The movers showed-up just a little early and were joined by ZICO. Upon arrival, Zico immediately notified me that my bid would likely be slightly more because there was more than expected. At first, I was a little skeptical of this, but as I watched Zico and the two other movers quickly and professionally manage my move it was abundantly clear that this was not a bait and switch price increase, but a legitimate and honest representation of the job at hand. The movers brought padding and tape and even went above and beyond helping my mother and I to pack some things that were not ready for transport. They easily navigated what were some random and oddly thrown together packaging on my-part, reinforcing where necessary. I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT THE MOVERS WERE SUPER POLITE, FAST, HARD-WORKING AND VERY VERY PROFESSIONAL. As a single female and a student, I really value the honesty, hard-work, respect, and efficiency of Zico and his staff. The move was completed right on time and payment was easily distributed. Make sure to have cash on-hand for the tip because these guys really earn and deserve the gratuity. Not a single item was broken, damaged, or missing and Zico even made sure to show me the truck upon completion to assure that nothing was being left behind. Have nothing but good things to say about AMS. We booked only about a week out and Zico was kind and straight forward. They were recommended to me via a co-worker and they were incredibly affordable. No nonsense. Derrick, Kevin, and Tavol showed up early, and were easy and fun to work with for the day. The guys took good care of the items and the house (removing a sconce at one point to be sure not to bump or bend it to get a couch in the front door). These guys have helped me move twice, both times on pretty short notice (two weeks). They were courteous and professional, and got the job done *fast*. A three-guy crew had my one bedroom apartment moved in less than two hours. I tried to move with them again after I got stood up by a different company, but unfortunately they were booked. These guys were just plain horrible! They came an hour late, and the strongest looking of 4 happened to be the laziest of the bunch. They also broke a part of my screen door of my back door too. They would constantly ask me where to put this or that trying to stall and delay as much as they can so they'd get paid more. When they came to a tight spot in trying to find a way to get the couch through a narrow opening, the manager/owner said 'Oh don't worry its gonna go into the trash bin if we can't get it in' to one of his lackeys. Although they purportedly protect furniture with moving blankets, they failed to do so for my move. As a result, they did some damage to my dresser as well as some very minor nicks and dents to other items hardly worth mentioning. These guys are great! And cheap! They also come with a 20' truck, which costs you like $40 - and charge $75/hour for three men. Took under three hours for a cross-town move, and they blanketed stuff, had insurance. And, were just really nice people, which somehow means something when strangers are going through your stuff... The only reason I gave Applied Moving Systems one star is because I had to select something! I've moved several times in my life and I've never experienced a company that allows their employees to not only get away with theft, but defends them. After moving two weekends ago, it took me more than a week to unpack. Had I unpacked immediately after moving into my condo, I would've noticed immediately that some of my items were missing. I gave the movers the benefit of the doubt and didn't call to report it to Ziko until I was 100% sure that my IPad, Longines diamond watch, Coach watch and a small Boss speaker were missing. While Ziko blamed me for allowing the movers to move my valuables, that wasn't exactly the case. Two of the missing items were moved by me and were in my condo when the movers started moving in my belongings. The IPad and Longines watch were inadvertently packed in one of the boxes by my 17 year old daughter (she obviously wasn't thinking about the possibility of theft). I found the cases, but nothing in them. I would never wrongly accuse anyone of stealing if I wasn't 100% sure of it. While unpacking, I kept hoping that I was wrong, but unfortunately, I wasn't. I read all the reviews and didn't see anything regarding stolen items, but I guess, there's a first time for everything. When I called Ziko to complain, I was told that his workers have been with him for 10 years and no one has every made that type of complaint. He basically told me that I wasn't making sense and didn't care that my items were stolen. He can say what he wants, I know they were stolen and I'm very disappointment that Ziko didn't even apologize. I'm only posting this for anyone thinking of using this company; to please be aware of my experience. I know I made the mistake of not securing my valuables, but this is a mistake I won't ever make again. read more

I've been putting this off because I really hate giving bad reviews, but the whole thing has left me a little heartbroken the last few weeks. I hired Applied Movers to move from the south side up to Rogers Park. Although they were pretty fast (I did have lots of boxes and they moved it in 4.5 hours with five flights of steps), they managed to damage much of my furniture in the process. Even with my antique hutch wrapped in cardboard and a drop cloth, the veneer is scraped off on the sides, is cracked from them just shoving it on its side across the truck floor (I had to ask them to put a drop cloth underneath it), and I even saw one of the guys scrape off splintered veneer along the bottom edge with his shoe! When I said something about this, all the guy would say is, "It's ok, it's ok!" The front and corners are dented and there are chips in places I don't even understand how one could make accidentally. They even managed to pop open boxes and spill things along the concrete, almost without even noticing. They just didn't seem to care about being careful or damaging my belongings. Yes, they were fast, but I'd trade in quickness for care and consideration to save my furniture from being harmed. I don't even have that much furniture, so jam-packing a truck to ding, dent, and scratch everything that's bouncing up against each other seems careless. I have a set of dining room chairs that have been in my family for years and have seen their share of wear, but they managed to ding and scratch those up too. I don't understand it. They were reasonably priced and fast, but didn't really seem to care that they were moving someone's home with items they care about. Nothing was flat out broken, but I've moved myself so many times (without even wrapping any furniture!) and nothing was ever damaged! Use at your own risk. Or maybe just hire these guys if you don't have anything you really care about. I understand moving is a very hard job, and I think my tip showed as much, but I still was surprised by what happened. **I called much later to express my residual sadness over my hutch and whomever I spoke to was nice enough to say they would try to compensate me for the damage even though I called too late for insurance to cover it, which I truly appreciate. I'm just sad that the damage happened in the first place. read more

Best moving company ever!! These guys were just great- funny, quick, professional, and an absolute pleasure to have around! They arrived early, moved our stuff from the second floor, drive 45 minutes, and then moved up to the fourth floor- without an elevator! They did not complain and kept us laughing the whole time!! They were the best price of all the highly rated moving companies - I must have called 50 or more to get quotes. They had top notch professionalism, timeliness, and care. I had a dilemma on which moving/delivery company to hire to move 2 vintage tables with glass tops, one of the quite large. I reached out to a received a estimate from The Professionals, whom I have hired twice to move me. Unfortunately their estimate was for $285 as they have a 2 hour minimum. Dolly was going to be the $150 range, but Rick, the owner of Urban Artifacts discouraged me from hiring them due to a previous experience with them showing up with out the proper protective gear to deliver some vintage pieces for a customer. I thought I had someone lined up who was going to charge $125, but he never responded to my request for proof of insurance, so I fired him. I started calling around and my first company was going to charge $315 and I mentioned that that was higher than The Professionals. The guy's response was well if he is going to be underbid I better make sure they crate each table top, as he would not take responsibility unless each glass top is crated. Thanks, but no thanks. My next call was to Applied Moving Systems and I spoke with the owner Ziko. He quoted me $185 and provided the proof of proper insurance. I would definitely hire these guys again as my crew were friendly and quickly and efficiently completed the delivery. They were a little late as Ziko scheduled them at the end of a much larger job, but that was not a big issue. The best part of this was Rick, the shop owner where the pick up was scheduled, telling me he was so impressed with them that he would hire them. Awesome, as that is not faint praise at all. If you're hesitant about using one of the delivery services such as Dolly, but you don't want to pay the bigger moving companies to do it these are your guys. read more

They moved an entire one bedroom appartment out and in the new appartment in less than 3 hours. The price is also amazing. I have recommended three friends to use Applied Movers and they have all had the same positive experience. I can't express how FAST these guys are! They taped up my dresser and I did not have to take all of the contents out, they wrapped up my TV, brought their own tape, blankets, padding etc. They asked where I wanted the furniture in my new appartment and placed everything in its place.
