We left a jewelry box with diamond rings inside our underwear drawer. We were so upset when we saw that all of our rings were gone. I've heard about these things happening, but I never imagined it would ever happen to us. My friends were telling me we should've moved the rings out of the drawer and carried them with us, but doesn't mean anyone should take them in the first place. There's no way to get them back or get compensated for the loss. The way the situation was handled was also very upsetting. Moving is stressful but do not add on more to your stress having to worry about your items gone missing. Expensive lesson learned. read more

I will be filing a complaint with the BBB after having given them weeks to reach an amicable resolution to problems encountered during and after the move. They simply do not honor their contract. They are super cordial in person and over the phone, but when it comes time to help resolve issues they are nowhere to be found. I was referred to them by some family friends, but I will be telling the family friends what happened so that they no longer refer Peterson. They try to appeal to the Korean community (I'm Chinese and my wife is Korean) with Korean business cards (which is quite ingenious), but don't let their fancy cards make you think they care and will do a good job. 1) Incomplete pack - The owner, Mr. Felipe Maldonado, is probably one of the friendliest gentlemen you will meet, but he doesn't honor a written contract nor his word. When he stopped by our condo to do an in-person estimate, he quoted us $1,400 to load and unload our belongings, and an optional additional $550 to pack our entire condo. The total quote would have been more had we not opted to pack and move the art work ourselves, but we opted to remove the art work from the contract to save some money, which he noted clearly on the contract. As such, he told us everything else, including the garage and kitchen, would be packed for $550. In fact, my wife walked him through the garage, storage rooms, kitchen, etc., and he confirmed everything would be packed, again, only noting that the pack did not include art work (see copy of contract posted with this review). Guess what? On the day of the move they refused to pack the kitchen. They claimed they made this clear at the time of the estimate, but this is completely false. They did not verbally mention this, and more importantly they did not document this on the quote, yet they documented no art work would be packed/moved. Additionally, they completely missed/failed to pack an entire hallway closet. In the end, we had to make five separate trips back to the condo after the move to pack the kitchen and closet items ourselves using a rented U-Haul truck. 2) Damaged items - Don't be impressed with their insurance policy because I guarantee you they will never allow you to file a claim. They were clearly negligent (and admitted as such) in damaging a trophy that they failed to pack correctly (they didn't pack it in a moving box, rather just tossed it in the truck as is). Rather than allowing me to file a claim, they said they wanted an opportunity to repair it via a local business. The owner himself said he would pick the item up from me in a few days to be repaired. Three weeks later and a few unreplied to emails, nothing. 3) Unmoved items - They literally left boxes that they packed in the condo. We had to return to the condo ourselves to move the boxes to our new home. And these weren't small boxes that could be easily missed. These were wardrobe boxes that contained thousands of dollars worth of clothing (Hugo Boss suits and Canada Goose jackets). For a week we thought the boxes were lost and wanted to file a claim, but again, with no assistance from Peterson we decided to return to the condo to see if the missing boxes were there, and yes they were. They of course kept claiming everything had been loaded and unloaded. When I spoke with Mr. Maldonado over the phone about these issues, the only thing he offered me was 10% off my next move. I explained to him this was not acceptable as a) I don't know if/when I will ever move again, 2) who knows if he will even be in business when I do need to move, 3) who's to say he won't simply overcharge me 10% to cover the discount. A nice gesture, but clearly not acceptable. All I wanted was for Peterson to give me the replacement cost of the trophy (via insurance) and refund me $200-$250 for failure to pack the kitchen and closet, and making me move the boxes that they packed but did not move (5 total trips that required us getting a U-Haul). This, I felt was an extremely reasonable and amenable solution as I could have asked for a lot more given their breach of contract and the inconveniences placed on me and my family. In closing, this was a very disappointing experience given we were referred to them. I tried working with them to reach a fair resolution as I believe people have good intentions and should be given an opportunity to make things right, but they simply saw me as a tiny fish in a big pond that they don't have to worry about. What kills me even more is that I bought the 4- man crew lunch. Unbelievable. read more

Just had one of their driving teams almost side swipe me while driving West on Fullerton Ave. Once they got back in their lane and I was able to get back in mine to get ahead of them, saw the driver with a flask in his hand. They all made eye contact with me, laughed and the driver took another drink. Made sure to get behind them for the rest of the drive and the swerving, irregular speed and quick lane changes was unbelievable. Called the company to report them , the guy on the phone didn't want to take the license plate number, claiming that was the only truck out at the moment and he would "look into it". I "planned" my move at the last possible minute but Peterson Moving Company was able to get me out of the old place and into the new on the day I needed. On the day of the move, the operator called to let me know his guys were running about 15-20 minutes late, and I was fine with that. I figured it was as good a time as any to take a nap after my sleepless work week. Nearly an hour later, I hear my dog freaking out and the engine of a very large truck roaring down my street. Danny et al., meant business. No polite intros ... Walked in, apologized for running behind, assessed the move and literally got moving. I was their last move of the day and it was a tough one into a second floor walk-up, but they got me moved in three hours flat, well within budget. Peterson is fast, careful, reliable and less expensive than Golan's, which is the gold standard of moving but awfully pricey. There was a snafu with my closing so the truck was forced to wait with my things before I got the keys. They were totally chill and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. They work like dogs and respect and properly wrap your things. THINGS TO NOTE: Be sure to request wardrobes prior to moving because they don't typically keep them in the truck. Peterson Movers were amazing. Seriously. After getting three estimates, I chose Peterson because they were the only ones who actually came to the house to see what needed moving. Their price was close to the lowest and after seeing all the work they did, I almost felt that we owed more. They were professional, showed up on time, had all needed supplies, worked non-stop until the move was over. Felipe and his team took great care with our furnishings, taking apart and reassembling correctly--even 'fixing' our grandfather clock which had been mis-assembled by our painters. I've used them a couple times before and those experiences were okay. This time, I had a few issues which make me not want to use them again. If anyone plans to use them, heed these warnings: 1) I called twice for quotes, and the second time, the long distance fee was $50 cheaper than the first time, so I recommend negotiating that. 2) They never mentioned a material fee for the plastic wrap until it was time to collect and the number was suddenly padded to the total. Make sure to ask ahead about that. 3) They drive a truck big enough that they can't take certain routes like Lake Shore Drive. If you can't map a good route, get ready to lose a lot of time to the drive. 4) I was told there would be a 3 man team, but only 2 people showed up. If I had to pick them again, I would make sure to negotiate a discount for each person that doesn't show up. On the bright side of things, their moving pace was okay for 2 people, and so far, with the unpacking I've done, my belongings appear undamaged. read more

I would highly recommend Peterson Movers for any size moving job, across town or cross country, which was the case with our move. They were prompt, communicative, professional, and took great care to double wrap all furniture pieces (in tarps and in plastic wrap) to insure safe and scratch free transport. They helped move out the old furniture and set up the new completely. First time using movers and the whole process could not have been easier with the help of Felipe (the owner)! Originally i had only booked 2 people for 2 hours but an extra guy was able to come. The guys packaged all the furniture carefully (charge for materials was $33) but NOTHING broke! They even finished under time and so they offered to put my queen size bed back together, so nice! In total it was $200 (down payment, charged when booking)+ $75 (charged after move is complete)+$33 for materials = $300 to move downtown is an absolute steal, especially considering how nice and professional these guys were! I have used Peterson 3 times in the past and have always been quite pleased with the service. This last move was NOT GOOD. First the movers showed up at the wrong house. Then it took them over 9 hours (and $1,070) to move us 1/2 a mile. They were careless with our things, broke a few things and didn't bring it to our attention, rather they just tossed the items in the trash. They also dented our nice wood furniture, took the paint off our front steps and took smoke breaks (which would be fine if they were more efficient - but I was paying the guys by the hour.) read more

Technically, i would not give any stars at this point. We hired this company for an office/warehouse move a couple of weekends ago. The move had been planned for almost a month beforehand. They were supposed to bring 10 guys and 2 40' trucks to move a warehouse full of goods, as well as a small office area. First of all, they were supposed to arrive at 7am - we did not see them until close to 10am. Employees who were asked to come in to help with the move all came in within the first 1/2 hour we were supposed to start... but ended up waiting for them to show up. They ended up bringing maybe about 7 or 8 guys and 1 40' truck (instead of 2) and showed up with a small box truck. They got to work with plenty of goofing off when the guy, felipe (sp?), who seemed to manage the crew, was not around. The move essentially went on until 10:30pm. They also ended up having to come back the next morning to finish the job. In the end, after organizing the warehouse and doing a full inventory count... we are now 30 cartons short. I will not trust them for another move again. Not only were they late, they were inefficient and obviously unreliable. Totally disappointed. We will see now how they handle our missing goods situation. read more

A friend's daughter called these guys at the last minute and loved them - so I thought I'd try. They were everything I could want - way cheap, very efficient, timely, and great with my nicer pieces. They showed up on time with non-stick moving tape and padding - I've never seen anyone move so fast with a tape gun! Three guys moved my two bedroom apt in less than three hours. It was stunning. Nothing was broken, nicked, or scratched. They reassembled the bed. The tape really did come off my furniture without harming the finishes, or leaving residue. I used this company to move a piano to a friend's house. I was giving the piano as a gift, so would therefore pay all moving costs. When they arrived at my friend's house, they wanted extra money because there were more stairs than expected. I did not have a problem with paying extra money, but I had a huge problem with the way they treated my friend. They yelled at her, asking HER for money, when I specifically said I would pay for it all. They did not even call me to let me know. When my friend told me this, I tried to call the movers, but they did not answer my calls. I ended up calling the manager, who was very helpful. She worked everything out, finally. Overall, I was very happy with the manager, and the work was done quickly. However, I cannot accept the fact that they yelled at my friend, when it was her birthday, and she had nothing to do with the payment! read more

It was terrible experience with this moving company. When I first call to make an appointment, rep gave me the quote for $270 for 2 hours, and $100 per extra hour. When movers came up, they forced to use 5 hours fixed rate, which is $700 for total. I told them there is not much stuffs to move, so I expect to finish up within 3 hours. Prior to move dates, we tried to move all boxes in advance, and there were only few furniture left. When I refuse to pay $700, they start to unload stuffs. I have experienced the worst moving experience ever. During the move, I only saw one of the three men actually moving stuff from my condo and the other two just disappeared. Two of the men spent more than half an hour to find the hand tools box, instead of power tool box, for taking down my bed. After I located the tool box (not them), one man took more than half an hour to take the bed down while the other men just stood around. At the same time, they didn't even bring the standard moving tool, the wardrobe moving box, so I needed to request them to wrap my clothes to prevent any damage. It took another half an hour. Finally, we were off to my new condo. My friend and I have waited half an hour for them to show up. I had no idea where they went. Once they showed up, they definitely took their time to move anything to my new condo. I called one of my guy friends to come out to speed up the moving process. Once he showed up, the moving process became much faster. He also helped them move and resemble the bed together in 10 min after they had been struggling for more than half an hour. This move should have been taken 5 hours instead of 7 hours. After the move, I found out that they scratched my fine dining table ($2000), dented one of my art works, broke some container store boxes and tore two of my natural cotton hanging storage bags. read more

It was the worst, the most expensive, stressful, and upsetting moving experiences of my life! To make a long story short, here are some of the highlights of this nerve-wrecking experience: 1. A few days before the agreed upon move, they called me trying to reschedule it due to double booking. While speaking with the owner, Felipe, he blamed it on his secretary, and assured me that my move was still on . 2. On the day of the move they were 40 minutes late, forcing me to call Felipe again, as at that point I didn't even know if they were going to show up at all or not. 3. The move took 6 hours (as opposed to 3 hours a year ago from the same exact location with the same amount of stuff), as I made a huge mistake agreeing to an hourly rate. The movers were milking it as much as they could -talking, "getting lost", "getting stuck in traffic", having a beer (they were reeking of alcohol and had a nerve to leave a case of empty Modelo in my garage) and such, so I ended up paying $700. 4. The movers broke my dining table (which was a nice set of a table and 6 chairs). The guy who seemed to be in charge blamed it on one of the inexperienced movers. He assured me that within a week he'd personally deliver me a new table. I asked him how were they going to find the exact the same table to match the color and the design of my chairs, he kept on mumbling "don't worry, next week I'll bring you a new table". I called Felipe, the owner, trying to tell him about the whole moving experience so far. I was completely taken back when instead of listening and maybe apologizing, he got extremely defensive and snippy with me. The bottom line was that I was promised a new table within a week. 5. After 2 weeks of not hearing from them, I had to call the owner again. Finally they brought me a table...only it was the one they broke in half, glued together... Extremely upset about the situation and after having to deal with a very rude employee Of Peterson Moving, I was forced to call the owner again....and again...and again... 6. The end result- after several heated arguments with the owner Felipe, the most unprofessional, the rudest scammer, who's got absolutely no clue about the concept of customer service, rules, laws, and regulations of this country, I was left with no dining set (and was forced to buy a new one), no compensation, not even an apology, instead I was robbed, lied to, and yelled at. So, while I'll be taking him and his company to court, my advice to anyone looking for moving services, do not let Peterson Moving touch your belongings, waste your time, money, and cause you any distress! read more

My wife and I had to relocate from Chicago to Cleveland. I had arranged a different moving company weeks before the move and was given an estimate around $2400. The Monday before my Saturday move, I touched based with that other moving company and they increased the estimate up to $4500 and told me my final cost would be based on the weight of all my things, which I had no idea what that was. Worried about a bait and switch, I contacted a friend, who is also a freight broker, and he recommended Peterson Moving. I called Peterson on Tuesday and they were able to give me a flat rate (not an estimate, but an actual cost) and schedule my move for the same time I had it scheduled with the other company and for $2400. They produced property insurance for my things included in the price. On top of that, where the other moving company said they would deliver my things in 2-10 days, Peterson was taking our stuff directly to our new home. The day of the move came and about 15 guys showed up to wrap, pack and move our things onto the truck. It was very impressive and only took about 2 hours (but we also had packed almost all of our stuff ourselves). Peterson left Chicago early Sunday morning and we left mid morning. We ended up running late, so we asked the apartment building we were moving into to let Peterson in and they started unpacking so when we arrived, almost everything was done. I paid half up front and half when they left our new place. When we unpacked, one small piece of furniture was nicked, but everything else was in great shape. To compare, the other company gave me an uncertain price with an uncertain time to deliver plus I had to find insurance (all they did was give me the name of an insurance company). Peterson gave us a competitive flat rate including insurance and moving materials(tape, wrap, blankets) and delivered our things the next day. Peterson did a great job and I highly recommend them. They were reasonably priced, did everything they said they would and were nice as well. read more

If there was an option for 0 stars, that would be my rating. I feel sick for even giving these idiots even 1 star as they made my move a living hell. Let me explain why: We booked them for our move a month in advance for 2-4 PM on a Friday. I should have known what I was in for with how rude, unprofessional and simply bitchy the receptionist was. Anyways, I let it slide and went ahead with it. My condo has a very strict policy of moving ONLY during the times when the elevator is reserved which was 2-4. They also don't allow moves on the weekend so if I didn't get out that day I was totally screwed since this was a Friday. On the day of the move, the bitchy receptionist calls us and tell us that they will be delayed one hour. I was pissed...but it gets worse....Then at 3 they still don't show up. I call and she cant find the reservation. Once she finally finds it after fumbling around for awhile, she says that their truck broke down and would take another hour. Then here's the kicker.....she says we had requested to cancel because of the rain. WHAT??? SHE JUST MADE THAT UP!! I couldn't believe my ears. I told her I never said that and to hurry up and come ASAP. So I call my condo management and begged them to give me some more time to move. They gave me until 5:30. It was 4:00 and they still didn't show up so I called to cancel with Peterson. I call another mover (Crescent) and they were able to bail me out by putting together a last minute crew and showing up by 4:40. They were able to finish moving everything by exactly 5:30! I was amazed! Then here's the kicker.....Peterson moving shows up at 7 PM!!! They show up 5 HOURS late for a reservation. Not only that, they showed up even though I had cancelled it at 4!!! So I basically told them to fuck off. IDIOTS! if it wasn't for the other movers who bailed me out, I would have had to wait until Monday to move, I would have had to pay for overstaying my lease and would have been penalized by having my security deposit withheld. Thanks Peterson!! Stay away from this poor excuse for a moving business. It felt like it was being run by a bunch of clowns writing down appointments on post its with a rundown truck. I did not use this company to move. They moved my neighbor on 6/30/11. It was trash collection day, and after the trash had been collected, the movers filled my recycling can with packing materials and the remains of their lunches from KFC, including chicken bones. They did the same to another neighbor's can. I called on 7/1/11 to complain. The man answering the phone told me that it couldn't have been their movers, they were instructed not to use other people's trash cans. Uhhhh, right. Someone else walked down my block and filled it with packing materials and lunch garbage. He then told me to call back in half an hour if I had "proof" that it was them. I called back on 7/3/11, and left another message with a woman. She said that someone would get back to me and as of today, 7/6/11, no one has. She did apologize. I had no place to put my recyclables this week, and the can reeks of rotten chicken. I have to keep my garbage cans in my garage, so imagine the smell. Peterson, check yourselves. read more
