Best nice restaurant on the north side of Bethlehem. Good wait staff and a very large menu considering how high-quality the food is. Definitely recommend getting a cocktail from the menu and the burrata as an appetizer. Can't say I have a favorite entree, but have never been disappointed by them. We stopped in for lunch at noon thirty on a Saturday. The place was chalk full of folks finely dining. A half hour wait for a table led us to take a seat at the bar where we eventually ate our meal. The service was brisk and competent. The bar tender(s) worked well together to create a good experience, on top of their service, but not overly involved. We ordered the black and blue tenderloin, which was delicious. Think delicate, robust steak, over very fancy Texas toast, with blue cheese. Easily the best thing we ate all day. The Caesar salad with blackened chicken and the cheeseburger were slightly above average, but nothing to salivate over. Crab and asparagus soup, interesting for inland Pennsylvania, but very, very good, location considered. The high quality soup allowed me to be adventurous and order another crustacean related dish, the lobster taco. The blue corn chill is stuffed to the edges of the half moon shell with lobster, the key is to get a little sweet chili sauce and pico in every bite. Without those little pick me ups, the taco lacks the IED taste one would imagine a lobster taco should pack. read more

I'm rather surprised and somewhat stupefied that I am only now reviewing the Apollo Grill. I've been coming here for over a decade now (yikes!) and their food and service has always been fantastic. They have an excellent menu and I've tasted quite a bit of it over the years (the osso buco and lamb shanks come immediately to mind, mmm!!) but I've really gravitated towards their huge appetizer menu. This is the real selling point at Apollo. It's like a tapas menu, just bigger and more pricey. Be wary when ordering these appetizers because they're not small. Two can easily be considered a meal for a normal person. Luckily, I'm not normal. On my most recent visit I ordered the tuna carpaccio, mesa fried calamari #2, and the crackling chicken. My friend ordered the meatloaf sandwich which was a tad dry but still good. Service was almost too efficient. Our waitress was friendly but we did feel rushed and it wasn't crowded yet. She was trying to clear our plates and we weren't even done eating yet. Slow down, sister! This glutton likes to savor his food. Drinks have always been consistently solid. They make excellent, stiff drinks here that are always generous in size. The bar area is always packed. Apollo tends to draw a slightly diverse clientele from the older, white collar crowd to hungry cougars. Yes, cougars are in great abundance here. So watch out all you young yuppies! Overall, a great place to grab a strong drink or two and nosh on some tasty dishes. Just be sure to make your reservations way early in the week to get a table. This place books up quick. read more

Recently, we went to the Apollo Grill with a couple friends. We were able to sneak into a late reservation. When we arrived both the tables and bar area were packed. We checked in and were quickly seated. As is usually the case, the waitstaff was great. Our drink order was taken and the specials were presented to us. We ordered and our appetizers arrived. We had calamari, salads, and spring rolls as appetizers. Each one was flavorful, had a great portion, and properly prepared. For entrees we had crab cakes, salads, and the fish special. Although we made some unusual ordering request everything was perfectly prepared. Each person cleared their plates. Personally, one of the great advantages of the Apollo over other places in the Lehigh Valley the fact that they offer half portions of entrees. This allows me to get appetizers and other offerings without feeling stuffed. The coffee is great here as well which is always a plus in my opinion. Overall the Apollo is the industry standard in the Bethlehem, consistently one of the best in the Lehigh Valley, and it is obvious why. read more

Oh brunch, how you slay me. The Lehigh Valley is desperately in need of a more developed brunch spot! I am by no means saying nay to the quintessential pancakes and omelets, but everyone needs to appreciate the art of brunch, especially when it's done right! First off, this was Apollo's first Saturday offering brunch, so minor glitches are expected. I had made reservations earlier in the week, as per a suggestion from the waitress during the last dinner I had there, and it was a wise move. We had to wait a little, while everyone bustled around, but were then jubilantly (yes, I mean that, the hostess was literally a ray of sunshine) shown to our table. Upon sitting down, my boyfriend and I ordered the bottomless Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's. We swapped every few refills and it worked out just fine. My only qualm here, the alcohol content tapered quickly after our 1st round or 2. The beauty of brunch is that it's offers a judgement free zone when one chooses to drink before Noon, so I want to utilize that to the full extent. Next time I plan on trying the Extreme Bloody Mary (while of course still having the bottomless). I ordered the Quiche Du Jour, which consisted of mushrooms, asparagus, and goat cheese. Great combination that was served with a nice side salad that had spring berries and lettuce with a light vinaigrette. I couldn't believe how buttery and creamy--yes, creamy-- the crust was! Delicious! However, I received my meal at about room temperature or a bit cooler, only down side. My boyfriend got the Monte Cristo with Fried Egg. This was a gem. Warm honey ham and roasted turkey dripped in swiss cheese, nestled in between two thick-cuts of brioche bread with a nice fried egg nestled right into the center of the dough; served with a side of vanilla maple syrup. Awesome. He absolutely loved it! We shared a side order of the home fries (they come with optional peppers & onions, even if you are not a huge fan (me) do it anyway, the added flavors are great!) and a homemade black pepper parmesan southern biscuit...... my mouth literally began to water as I typed that. I lack the descriptive lexicon to fully relay what that biscuit was like. Just get it, thank me later. We rounded off the meal with their warm sticky bun dripped in syrup and walnuts, great way to end our first experience! We are looking forward to going back for sure and seeing how flexible the menu will become. If I can make it every Saturday morning, then it'll absolutely happen! read more

Apollo grill was interesting. We had our reservation for 5 for my wife's Birthday. The ambiance was comfortable when we came in... subtle jazz. Slowly the music became more and more hip-hop/rap. It seemed a little awkward at first but we brushed it aside. First was some R. Kelly, then Ne-yo. The next track came on, and it was 50 cent's song "In da club" rapping "go shawty, its your birthday" That's when we all had it and asked the waitress if the music could possibly be changed. She turned bright red and said that it was an iPod set entirely random and assured us that this was the typical music at the Apollo Grill. After that she turned around and stomped away, cut off the song mid track and changed it to Faith Hill. No more rap or hip hop came on after that. Overall the food was all very good or excellent. I had fish tacos and prosciutto wrapped asparagus and it was fantastic. Afterwards we did a walking tour around Bethlehem to enjoy the galleries and street musicians. We hope that this was certainly not intentional and only an isolated incidence. read more

A local recommended this place so we gave it a try. Went for a quick bite before a business meeting and sat at the bar. Turns out that they have 1/2 off bottles of wines on Tuesdays which was a great way to start our late lunch. Order some good wine and I had the onion soup which I most say the best one I have had so far. Dinner was amazing I was not expecting it to be so good. The bartender Mary was fun and sassy, I love me a bartender that knows what she's doing and takes ownership at her work place, she had nothing but good things to say about the restaurant. We were so Impressed with the place (staff, ambiance, service and food) that a couple hours later went back and had some late dinner. Making reservations here was a great choice. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. The bread: I always judge a place by their bread. The bread that was served here was warm and delicious. I really enjoyed the bread with the berries baked in. Appetizers: They were all tasty and wonderful. The Brie en crout was amazing to say the least. My favorite appetizer was the calamari though, just perfectly fried. The clams casino was a little bit disappointing because the sausage they used in it, overwhelmed the flavors and made it too salty. Entrees: The Australian lamb shank was out of this world with flavor! I couldn't get over how visually pleasing it looked coming out! It wasn't even the dish I ordered. I ordered the Osso Buco and it was stunning. The flavors were wonderful and the roasted vegetables that came with the entrees were actually my favorite part. The Brussels sprouts were crunchy but had a good cooked flavor to them. I couldn't get enough when adding some of the roasted marrow in every bite. Dessert: This was what made me give them 5 stars. I was already really happy about the meal, but the dessert is what won them 5/5. The brule du jour was fantastic. Rich in chocolate and perfectly sweet, without being overwhelming. The best dessert they have in my opinion, and I strongly suggest you order no matter how full you are, is the Pecan Bourbon bread pudding with homemade ice cream. THE HOMEMADE ICE CREAM was out of this world. If you read this I am telling you to get it. That ice cream earned them this 5th star. It was the perfect texture and consistency. This is a one-time review from a non-local. We began with an excellent Riesling by the glass. Crab and asparagus soup was delicious, but I thought the bowl was small for the price. A French onion soup was a better value - traditional,with a rich beef broth and Gruyere topping. The breads in the basket were excellent - particularly the cracker bread, but again, the amounts offered were small. We both had main course salads which were well composed but small - a grilled tuna for me and a tri-color for my wife. The tuna was sesame crusted and seared to perfection.I had room for dessert but we had to keep moving. My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner based on the rave reviews from friends and Yelp. Apollo Grille did not disappoint! The staff was friendly and very attentive. They have a very large alcoholic drink menu and full bar. Their menu had a nice variety of food on it as well. My husband got the cheese steak which he said was delicious. I got the 4oz. Filet mignon which came with rice and green beans. I also chose to have a steak sauce, they have four or five options you can choose from, I chose the red wine shallot sauce...YUM! Some things were not as good as others-- but there are many options and if you are with a large "sharing" group it might be nice. I feel like the best way to experience Apollo is to order their appetizers for the table- they turn into meals because they are is such a large variety. I had a tre calore salad and there was something missing- some acidity, some salt, some SOMETHING. I just played around and added stuff but it would have been nice to just eat it. My husband had some seafood pasta and it was also missing some flavor-- he said he just needed salt but it also was missing a pepper. We also ordered the margherita pizza and it was yummmy- so definitely do a pizza to share. Finally, the appetizer was calamari with hot peppers and we both agreed it was a little overly salty but very tasty! So clearly, something is going on with the salt here BUT there is so much food here and it was packed- that it is worth a stop for yourself! We had a small chocolate molten cake with salted caramel and pretzel and it was DIVINE! Service was OKAY- she didn't really know how to suggest things- I think all wait staff should have some of their favorites chosen because I can't have been the first person to ask for an opinion. She was also a bit slow with coming back about drinks and the food took about 40 minutes to come out (so that was more Kitchen staff). If I was in the area again, I'd try another place, but if its your first time- give it a try! read more

Apollo was my go to restaurant for client entertainment a couple of years ago when I was working with St. Luke's Hospital. My cousin lives in the area and recommended it, and boy am I a fan! Each time I have been here, I always sat at the bar and ordered a few appetizers to make up a meal. They have a crab and avocado dish in a tequila lime sauce that is to die for. Sweet potato crusted scallops were killer. Tuna carpaccio is still one of the best appetizers I have ever tasted. I can't rate this place 5 stars (even though I want to) because I have never ordered an entree from here. I can never pass on their amazing small plate selection. I have been eating at the Apollo Grill for the past several years and am very pleased with the service, food, and atmosphere. The restaurant is always relatively full and I joke that I take guests and job candidates from out of town here so it looks like something is happening in the Lehigh Valley. Most visitors I take here are surprised how full the restaurant is even in the middle of the week. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list and the martinis are outstanding. I generally order seafood or steak and have never been disappointed. I also enjoy the appetizers when I go out with friends. The service is always fast without feeling rushed and the wait staff is attentive. If you want a hip and fun restaurant, this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed. Update: I went to Apollo again recently after being out of power for several days due to Sandy. I have never taken my kids there before, but we wanted to have a nice meal after being in a cold house for a few days. The wait staff and chef were fantastic and made something just for my sons. The bloody Mary was a special treat that I would highly recommend. Apollo Grill has earned my regular business. We probably didn't look our best, but we were treated great and the food tasted wonderful. They really made us feel special and my sons still talk about our meal there. read more

Would Hemingway drink here? Probably not. The bar is limited, and not likely to draw a dark gypsy mujer telling your fortune. The dining room is a bit underwhelming for decor. The food is the star, though. Cauliflower bisque with curry ginger was a hit. Their artichoke was a bit of a let down. The wrapped asparagus was a winner. Coconut ice cream in crepe with bananas foster sauce could be banana as you don't taste the coconut. A star gone for the ambience and bar each. We came in about an hour before closing after a long day at work and she gave us great recommendations and was super sweet! The lamb was delicious as well! Not that Apollo needs another five star rating but they deserve it. The food never disappoints. I have yet to have an entree as the appetizer/tapas menu is brilliant. Its fun to have a table of four and just order 6-8 different or multiple of the same plates. The steamed Asian buns with short rib is my favorite food. The filo wrapped asparagus, black and blue tenderloin, lump crab cocktail all are classic. Let me tell you about this little gem in downtown Bethlehem. OMMMGGGG!!!! It was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Every single thing we tried was PHENOMENOL. I can't wait to bring my husband back. I have now been here several more times (obvs.) and each time that we had our original server, she remembered that we'd been there before. I think that's a sign of superior service. Also, the food has retained it's magnificence! I've tried their lobster tacos at the bar, and I have to say.... we craved more immediately! Their calamari is an enormous portion, so if you just want a nicely priced snack while you have a drink, then this is your app of choice. It'll last you a while! You know what? It's pretty damned good. I went here (at least once) with my project team at my old consulting firm. We showed up at Apollo Grill on a Tuesday without reservations, and were easily seated (near the door, though -- a bit chilly). They have one of the largest appetizer lists I've ever seen -- over 20, with emphasis on seafood. My table ordered trout, chorizo, and a crab and avocado served in a martini glass. All were well prepared -- and very good. I ordered their porterhouse, encrusted with horseradish sauce. Interesting choice, though serving the steak with such an overwhelming sauce really kept me from judging how good the steak was. The service was great -- our waiter checked in regularly but without intruding. I will, say, though, that my Maker's on the rocks was waaaay too watery. This review (3.5 stars by the way) is way overdue because I last dined here on 12/18/09 while in town to check out Christmas City and the annual bazaar. My friend, who happens to be Greek, has a penchant for spotting all things Hellenic and as we were enjoying a stroll and listening to the dreamy Sinatra music being piped through the town's speaker system, he immediately pointed out Apollo. We noticed that it was packed--always a good sign--and decided to give it a shot. When I say shoulder-to-shoulder standing room only, I mean it. I'm a claustrophobe so it kind of freaked me out. Thankfully, we were seated rather quickly--sadly at a makeshift table right near the swinging kitchen doors--but, hey, beggars can't be choosy. One of the owners, an absolute sweetheart, recognized the inconvenience of our seating and brought out a complimentary seared tuna appetizer for us. Unfortunately, neither I nor my friend eats fish but the gesture was sweet nonetheless. I ordered the crab bisque which was awesome; my friend had the lobster taco which was "eh" and sort of on the bland side. The asparagus tuilles were tasty as was the fried shrimp I ordered. At this point, unfortunately, I don't remember what my friend ordered as an entree--I guess that's what I get for reviewing so late. Upon finding out that my friend was a chef, foodie, and Greek (a winning trifecta I suppose), the owner asked if I wanted a tour of the kitchen. Of course, I took him up on his offer and all of the kitchen staff was absolutely wonderful and very accomodating.
