I discovered this charming pub while visiting Bethlehem (otherwise known as Christmas City USA) during the recent holiday season. The space was lively, yet cozy. First time I visited was for lunch. As soon as I saw the menu, I knew I needed to order the Wild Scotch Egg (difficult to find). I also had the half portion of Fish and Chips. The Wild Scotch Egg consisted of hard boiled egg and sausage, which was panko fried, sitting on Guinness fondue and crisp arugula, topped with Parmesan crisps. I really enjoyed this. The outer breading was light and satisfyingly crispy, while the egg and sausage interior was expertly cooked, tender and well seasoned. Cheesy fondue sauce was rich and creamy. Parmesan crisp was a nice, tasty touch. The beer battered Fish and Chips were also yummy. Fish was succulent, perfectly flaky and flavorful, while the Steak Fries were wonderfully crunchy, full of true potato taste. I knew I needed to return in order to try the Sticky Toffee Pudding, one of my all time favorite desserts. This was served warm, with Earl Grey tea date sponge cake, paired with sweet sticky toffee sauce and clotted cream. So deliciously mouthwatering and decadent! Service was good. The waiter was warm and easy to talk with. Everything came out in a timely manner. Prices were quite reasonable. I'm glad I came across this place to have my fill of some British classics! read more

This spot is cute and the service was friendly and attentive. The food was terrible. Burger was inedible (the meat tasted old). The wings were char flavored. The roast beef was chewy and just gross. I'm assuming if you are a few drinks deep, you don't notice how bad the food is because there is no reason for this place to be four stars. read more

Cozy pub and whiskey bar. Great decor with wooden snugs that are great for 4 people. Servers and staff were very friendly. Food was a big let down though. I had such high hopes based on recommendations from friends! Guinness lamb stew appetizer didn't have a single piece of lamb in it, just large chunks of potato and carrot (1/5)! Wild scotch egg appetizer didn't look or really taste much like a scotch egg but it was ok to eat (2/5). Pretzel dunkers were warm and tasty (4/5). Salad was very odd and not appetizing (1/5). The fish and chips was excellent with a good size portion of haddock, beer battered with good size chips with a nice texture (5/5). Sticky toffee pudding was ok but the clotted cream wasn't - it was more like heavy whipped cream (3/5). If I return it will be for fish and chips with a Guinness. read more

This place is my comfort space, my safe place, my where I go when I don't want to go to or be in my just-me home. It feels, tastes, and almost sounds like my happy days in Edinburgh - from the single malt whisky to the Scotch egg and the mussels to the sticky toffee pudding and yes, the big glass jar of shortbread cookies. I've been here in every mood (sorry guys!), and they've always made me feel welcome regardless. Summer, Josh, Kevin, and Ryan (and Soren and Richie!) are so patient and sweet, no matter which version of evening it happens to be. I am so grateful. The other regular patrons are, by the vast majority, lovely and so pleasant to be around, even for a shier corner-lurker like me. Some friends and I stopped in a couple of weeks ago for a pot of tea and a scone. We tried a few teas but my favorite was the Plus Pear black tea. I got a scone with dates in it and clotted cream and jam which was great! It was definitely a nice little treat! I loved that this pub always has a tea list that you can order from any time and a little baked goods counter with a couple of different scones, etc. We sat and chatted for so long that we ended up ordering dinner, which was also tasty. It was also nice that the waitress was so very sweet and helpful. I also bumped into the manager and had a nice chat with him. They are now offering an afternoon tea experience every Wednesday. The pub is also attached to an Irish gift shop that closed by the time we left but looked like it had some beautiful items. About as authentic as an Irish bar can be, amazing warm wood "snuggles", or booths with privacy doors. Copper bar and long copper topped tables offer a great group experience. Great whiskey selection, and also good beer selection. We only grabbed some wings which tasted good but really needed to be in the fryer for another minute of so. Food was good. My husband and I stopped in for a drink and appetizer. Service was awful. Gave the server the benefit of the doubt as she stated everyone came at once. We received our drinks and appetizers, the app was good. However we never saw her again. Finally we caught the attention of another waitress we asked to send our waitress over. Unfortunately, she couldn't locate our waitress so she took our drink order. Within a few minutes our waitress appeared and we told her the other waitress took our drink order and that we like to order more food. She took our food order. 25 minutes later the food appeared but still no drinks. After complaining finally received drinks from the original waitress. A little piece of the UK in the Lehigh Valley. The decor aims to mimic a classic Irish pub, though it feels a bit try-hard. That said, the extensive beer list, Irish coffee, and impressive tea service for non-alcoholic drinkers make up for it. Went here for a meal on a Saturday in December. It was packed and we were told over an hour wait. We were really set on Irish pub food. (Skipping to the end we should have skipped). Ordered a sausage roll, potato leek soup, lamb stew and a burger. The sausage roll was inedible. It was a gross texture the potato soup was very broth with little flavor. The male stew was ok not great or amazing. Burger was mid. The decor was great oh and we saw our server exactly twice once to order and once to pay no checking on us at all. She had to have seen a completely uneaten plate of Sausage roll and said nothing ‍ oh well better luck next time we are in Bethlehem. read more

The chips were amazing !!! I had them with the Parmesan cheese and jalapeños and mind you, the jalapeños were pickled in an amazing pickle juice or however they pickle them which made them taste oh so good. My waitress Jen, i believe she said her name was, she was great. I just wish I was allowed to order more than two drinks at a time since they were closing the bar at 10 pm and then cut me off at 9:40. Other than that, all was good. Well, another day has come, above was from 3 years ago and the food me and my date had was amazing.  She had the stuffed flounder, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I tried it as well and it was good, I'm not that big on seafood so if she said it was very good I'll take her word for it. As for me, I had the wild bore burger, and it was definitely great. I loved it!  There are no issues with the food at all. As for the drinks we ordered, I had the Granny Mac, which is their own brand of  Irish whiskey, and it was very smooth. It was so good that my girl and I will be purchasing a bottle or two when they are ready. My date had the banana infused Old Fashion, and that too was really good. The hostess also gave us a sample of the Irish cream liquor and me and my date and I both agreed it was probably the best cream we ever had. Our service was absolutely awesome. I didn't get our servers name, but he was great. We went there on Mother's Day and he was the Irish looking fellow that was very friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu and even gave us a history lesson of the snugs which is where we enjoyed our meal at. The hostess was awesome as well. She popped in on our snug to see how we were doing and talked to us about the food and liquor, which I can talk about for days. The snugs are so cool to eat in when you're on a date with your loved ones. Or if you have some bad ass kids and don't want them running all around the restaurant and bothering other customers like how my kids do sometimes. You can keep them locked away in the snug with you. Cottage Pie made of mashed potatoes, little carrot, onion, ground beef was served hot in cast iron pan and came with side of peas, housemade bread and gravy. Their housemade gravy gave cottage pie a more savory quality. I rarely eat bread with meals, but wasn't going to miss out on this substantial, high quality bread they make upstairs. Side salad with blueberry vinaigrette was very good. This was comfort food at its best. Not only was the food authentic, the atmosphere was that of a Celtic pub. I just had such a disappointing lunch here. I used to eat here more often a few years ago when I lived in Bethlehem, but it's been a while so this was almost like a first time visit. The fish and chips used to be perfection: pieces of fish lightly battered and crispy, and the fries were hand cut. Pure deliciousness! Today, it was one giant hunk of cod, so big that the inside was just barely warm and a little mushy. The fries were really big and didn't have the same texture or flavor as how they used to serve them. The waitress brought me a caddy with the condiments when she brought my meal, and that was the last I saw of her for a long time. (When I asked the bus boy to find her.) There was no malt vinegar in the bottle, but since I didn't see her again, and I couldn't catch anyone's eye, I used ketchup, but it tasted a little wrong with the big fries. I had to ask to see my waitress after I needed to leave, and she made no apologies for being MIA for my entire meal. She never asked how my food was or anything. This just was such a difference from how my past experiences were at the Stag. It's such a nice location and I like how they remodeled it. I just don't know if I even want to return though. $23 for lunch without a drink, and I left feeling kind of put off. Not worth it. read more

Visited with a party of 4, seated inside, downstairs, in a booth, for dinner. It took 20 minutes to get waters & then another 10 minutes to take our drink orders. Fortunately we put our food orders in at the same time, that was a whole other mess. 3 of us received our meals, while the 4th party waited another 8 minutes for her entree to arrive. I had the lamb stew, which was cold & horrendous, the other dishes were sub-par at best. When we were finally ready to pay we essentially had to hunt down our server after waiting another 15 minutes for our dishes to be cleared. We will absolutely never return. Wonderful pub in Bethlehem. Popped in on a Sunday and caught the last hour of Irish session music and a lively, fun crowd enjoying lunch and live music. We were seated in a booth in its own room! Good Irish beer, not so great food. Wild boar burger - don't order it well done but order it as is (medium) because they char it and there's no dressing so everything tastes REALLY dry. I wish there was either some sauce or condiment built in because the smoky charred patty tastes sooo dry. The egg is cooked as a fried egg (still somewhat runny) which is how I would want it, but the liquid could not cure the sensation that you're eating the Sahara desert dry burger. Portion size is nice and if you add a condiment like ketchup it helps the burger a lot. Beer selection is great and has a decent mix of Irish beers. I'm glad they have my two favorite Irish drinks - smithwicks and Guinness. I was hoping to see others like clonmel or orchard thieves but glad to see magners. Nice staff but nothing exceptional for service. Ambience gives me more of a restaurant feel than pub, but I didn't mind it. Food is priced as expected for the portion size and location. We got the red pepper and Gouda soup, potato and leak soup, lamb stew beef on a weck sandwich, cottage pie, crème brûlée, a Guinness and a Kilkenny. My favorite soup was the lamb stew. Both entrees were good but I think we will order something else next time. I knew my favorite beer was Kilkenny before coming in so that was fantastically smooth. I didn't think I liked Guinness but I have only tried it in the bottle. It was really fantastic on tap. The crème brûlée was good but not great. Waitress was very nice. I loved that I could walk into an Irish pub in America and hear Irish music. The bartenders was good and the selections of whiskeys was amazing. Loved the copper bar and the tin ceiling tiles. The lamb stew was horrible though. It had one piece of lamb and lack any moisture. I could turn my spoon upside down and it stuck and did not fall. You can see I ate the one piece of meat and the carrots... they were good. The brown bread had some type of coagulated grease on it. The smoke salmon and capers were good but it was thrown on the plate with a huge pile of pickles and arugula. I wanted to love this place. I wanted to go and take over the kitchen. My wife and I recently celebrated my birthday at Red Stag pub while in Bethlehem. We went for a mid-week lunch. She had the Cottage Pie ($18), similar to Shepherd's Pie and I had the Donegal Dip ($16) with an au jus sauce for dipping my sandwich. Dessert was an apple crisp ($10). The pub is decorated like a traditional Irish pub. Ironically, I only drank water with my food. LOL. So sad to see & taste the quality slip here. I have refrained from reviewing places for a while to give a chance to get back up to snuff after the pandemic nonsense. Unfortunately, Red Stag has consistently gotten worse since 2019. Go for whiskey, don't eat here right now (2023). Sand in my potato leek soup on one occasion (which means the leeks weren't washed well) Scotch egg was disgusting on another day, last time it was cold, nasty wings. Dirty floors, sticky tables & a completely inexperienced staff. I really hope y'all can get it together again with a well trained staff. This is a hard review for a few reasons. #1 The Wait. They were very busy and understaffed, but they were able to get us a table within 30-45 mins- which was amazing. And they were very, very kind (don't want to post why on here so others don't use us as a "well they got to"). Even with the busyness, our server was still quite consistent (possibly waited longer than normal). #2 The Food. We ordered the fries with fondue smothered on them and OH MY GOSH. Get them. Get them. Get them. So delicious! And there are so many other toppings you can do instead of fondue. Now, for the main entree. I got a Cheeseburger with Cheddar and BBQ sauce. I understand this isn't typical "Irish" grub, but still food on their menu. For the price, I wasn't impressed. It was okay. Would I eat it again? Yes. For the price? Probably not. Note the burgers do come with fries, which was nice and makes the price more reasonable. My friend got a few items off of their breakfast menu and wasn't very impressed for the price either. #3 The Atmosphere. This was honestly the best part (other than the fondue fries). It felt genuine (I've been to pubs in Ireland before). Overall, we discussed our experience and ultimately decided we would go back and try something else on the menu. We spent the evening at this very fine pub and restaurant with our family last week at we are still talking about the quality of the food and drink as well as the staff. Megan, our waitress was super friendly and enthusiastic, the fare was authentic Irish and we were very pleased with the portion size and presentation. This restaurant has a genuine atmosphere and made us feel comfortable the entire evening. Cody, the manager obviously a proud and passionate leader of this establishment made us feel important as well. I loved trying the Irish goodies! My server, Amy, was super helpful with all my questions and everything I tried ended up being delicious. I ordered only sides and added a dessert because I got addicted to their scones when I first walked it. I tried the toasted brown bread; it sounds boring but I actually would recommend it over the other sides I got. It had so many delicious layers of flavor. I also tried the potato farl, which is a flat potato pancake that was as plain as it gets but good for dipping in any sauce you may have. The grilled tomatoes were tasty as well but you only get two halves of a medium sized tomato as the serving. The scone my eye was drawn to was their white chocolate strawberry vanilla bean scone. It was the perfect scone texture with that dry/moist balance. I also got their red, white, and blue sangria special (yes, I was THAT person getting sangria at an Irish pub). It wasn't that strong but the fruit flavor was nice. I got to enjoy everything in one of their private booths too! This review is overdue so maybe it's changed since last year, but from what I remember, don't eat here. The food is so greasy!!! The worst. I get sick just thinking about it. Also, the hostess was awful. She practically yelled at us because we came during the holidays and made sure to let us know, "It's Christmas!". I'm from out of town so obviously I had no idea I wasn't supposed to come here because, "It's Christmas!" and I wouldn't be able to get a table within a reasonable wait time.
