We have passed by this place many times. Finaly stopped for lunch. The dining area is beautiful, and the bar holds many top shelf bottles. Service took a long time. We waited a long time for our food. The manager stopped by our table to talk. All of this is nice, but when the food arrived the entire experience took a dive. My chicken sandwich was so soggy I was unable to pick it up. This detracts from the flavor and the experience. I didn't eat it. The slaw was covered with a thick tasteless sauce. Homemade chips were good. My husband had a pork sandwich. It was okay, but not exciting. It was served on plain white bread. Overall, food was not good. Service was slow but the atmosphere is great. we will not be returning. read more

The manager made a big speech over preparing a gluten free meal for my boyfriend. My boyfriend had ordered a burger without a bun. Except when his food came out, there was regular bun on it. Later on my boyfriend experienced stomach pain most likely from cross contamination. Seems like a truly authentic Irish pub. Such a great selection. I like that it is attached to the Irish store. Great way to spend time while waiting for the table. Guinness pints, peach infused Jameson(holy Crap it's good!). Some might argue that adding anything to Jameson is a crime, but the peach, and later the peppermint were both amazing! Char-grilled Jameson infused wings w/whiskey bbq sauce. I so like non fried wings. These were marinated in Jamesonn and sprinkled with good blue cheese. Fantastic. Scottish Salmon BLT w/crisps. Well seasoned grilled salmon, Irish bacon, lettuce and tomato on toasted brown bread. Such a good sandwich. Perfectly cooked salmon. Loovec the brown bread. Had it so often in Ireland. This tasted just as good. Sticky toffee pudding. Had this at a restaurant in Galway. This was better! Topped with a sticky caramel sauce and whipped cream McCarthy's Irish coffee. house made. Better than Baileys. They will soon be selling it by the bottle. I will buy one, or two! I could not find any fault here. I can't wait to take our adult kids and other friends here. Great atmosphere! Loved the red stag theme! Bar was well stocked! Food was good but a little short on flavor. There wasn't that many options for appetizers on the menu but they also offer brunch (win in my book!) Great stop if you are on Main St in Bethlehem PA - the whole street is riddled with restaurants. If you are running a list of stops on Main Street this should make the list. read more

This past visit was a let down. Our server acted like us being there was a huge inconvenience. We asked if we could get the restaurant week menu. And our server said there was none and that all the posters had the wrong date and it didn't start until next week. I inquired with Historic Bethlehem's event page and they said it was definitely this week. Despite the service we still gave her a good tip. Maybe she was just having a bad day. We overheard her tell the table next to us that she was the only one on the patio for the morning but now another server came so it had slowed down for her. Or I'm not sure if we got off on the wrong foot because my dog was on my lap initially. I didn't see the patio rules by the condiments since they were on the other side of the umbrella. But my husband happened to read it and I immediately set her down. Though I wish they had the rules posted on their website, since my dog is a complete lap dog I would've left her at home. It has since been corrected. And they are no serving the restaurant week menu. It was frustrating that we went just for that and it didn't happen. We picked that spot specifically for a dish they had on their restaurant menu that isn't on their typical menu. The food was good but just not we had wanted. The set price of restaurant week is a nice perk too. We probably would've went to a different restaurant had we known the menu wasn't in effect. read more

The service is rather good. The gentlemen and gentlewomen behind the bar tend to be very knowledgeable. Excellent whisky selection. I've had several meals at Red Stag and have yet to have a good meal. Everything is done heavy handedly. Greasy. Sloppy. Expensive for the end product you're getting. Don't get me wrong, I understand this is pub food, and I love pub food. I love a classic bangers and mash, or cottage pie. In my opinion a little refinement goes a long way. If you like good whiskey and beer, give it a go. read more

First timer! If my next visits are as solid as my first, I'll bump this to a 5-star review. Came in Sunday afternoon. There was some great live Irish music playing. I sat at the bar, ordered a beer and the cottage pie. Pie was excellent (the side of peas were so good--normally just push peas to the side). I saved half to go so I could try the sticky toffee pudding which was phenomenal (they top it with clotted cream: yum!). Bartender, Candace, was super friendly, helpful and fun to chat with. There's a small bakery adjoining the pub where you can purchase brown bread and scones, etc. I got two scones to go and some clotted cream. I would definitely purchase more in the future. I spent four years in Bethlehem only to find McCarthy's last weekend while back visiting friends. I became angry with myself upon realizing that this is in Bethlehem's top tier of restaurants The whiskey selection here is almost too good to be true. There are over 200 varieties. As I stared at the bar I thought of all those special occasions back in college that perhaps would have been more special if I had known this pub existed. The food is excellent. The Fish and Chips was the best I've ever had, even compared to those places in London that contain pictures of famous people eating them. A charming spot serving delicious food. It's so good that I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the few ethnic restaurants in the tri-state area that hasn't yet been called "inauthentic" or "Americanized" read more

Aces. I'm always on the hunt for something touting the authenticity of the Seven Kingdoms. And a Whiskey Bar to boot! The staff know their scotch. They came over to the table when I had a question about a limited batch. The food- yes, that's what brought us here. Cottage pie. Fish & Chips. Both were spectacular. We split them. I liked that I could add my peas to the pie as needed. It had a nice gravy on top. Throughout, there was a great herb flavour- especially that of rosemary. The Irish brown bread was a good touch for sopping up the last bits of gravy! The fish was moist, flavourful, crunchy, and perfect. Upon ordering, I was asked if I'd like malt vinegar. Of course! The tartar sauce was a nice surprise- dill and capers made this better than normal! Chips were good too. Crunchy- home made. Not overly salted! Pardon the anachronism here, but we started with the Ploughman's Lunch as an appetizer- be forewarned this is a small meal! Branston Pickle. Grainy Mustard. Cheddar. Homemade Pickles. Apples. Irish brown bread. G-D perfect! Boddington's on draught is always pleasant. Great beer selection. Even better 'whiskey' collection. The curator knows his business. *If you're planning to bring a group read! TERRIBLE SERVICE tonight. I messaged them through Facebook WAY I'm advance to ensure they could accommodate a large group. The response I got was "Good Morning Terra, We do not do reservations at this time. We do have two communal high tops that can seat up to twelve people each. When were you thinking about coming?" AND Thursdays shouldn't be a issue. We get there tonight, The place is maybe 1/4 filled capacity and are told AFTER seating that everyone had to be on the same check because we had more than 6 people (we were going to have roughly 15-18 who planned to come), but they could run separate cards. We explained that wouldn't work because not everyone would be leaving at the exact same time at which time we were then informed/clarified they could run separate cards but only in equal amounts of the the overall check. (Ex: 100 with 4 cards - ran a $25 each) The manager went back and forth to "think" about how they could accommodate us, only to return each time with a different reason or excuse - from they didn't want the waitress to have to deal with that many different checks (yes, they said that), to "it's just our policy", to "we've had people leave without paying." When asked if we could move to the tables (all right next to each other) as if we were coming in individually to eat (vs the communal high top) we were told in exact words "Yes, but you can't get out of your seat." ‍ Again, if you've ever been in there - it's small, they were not busy and you pass a hostess stand where there's never less than 3 people standing there in a tiny corridor to exit. So policing dine & dash issues should not have been an issue. Their last offer was the best they could do was split the table in 2 checks instead of 1. In the end, the group went across the street to Fegleys Brewworks who accommodated us with absolutely no issues. Long story short, if you're planning on going to McCarthy's Red Stag Pub and Whiskey Bar as a group - be sure that you're aware you can't have your guests on separate tabs because we were not advised this, even though I contacted them well in advance before planning to patronize their establishment. read more

I love breakfast here. I had the full Irish. Black pudding is superb. Eggs are cooked exactly as I like them. My daughter had the wild boar burger. A little sloppy maybe but great. When a fussy 12 year old eats the whole thing, you know it is good! French press coffee is mild and good. Tea selection is fabulous. read more

I've been wanting to try this Irish pub for a long time but it has always been difficult due to the waiting time. Finally we were able to get a high table this past Mother's Day the food was very overpriced and mediocre. 17 dollars for a very dry burger? I ordered the corned beef cheesesteak and I have to say that the amount of onions in the sandwich tripled the amount of meat. It should be advertised as an onion sandwich. The French fries were soggy and burned at the same time. Rally wanted to like this place but I will not come back. read more

I love coming here for fish & chips when I fly into town, the batter is perfect and the chips are excellent as well. Also they have excellent freshly brewed iced tea. However this last time I dined in the tarter sauce that comes with the fish & chips was only filled less than half full so I only needed a little more to finish the fish and the next sauce container the waiter brought out was completely full. When I got the check I noticed a $.50 for extra sauce so I said o the server really? The first one I got wasn't even half full and he said yea they are getting on us about bringing sauce refills. At the end of the day it's on $.50 but totally unnecessary. Not sure if they are trying to make some money back from the strict covid rules that the town had for a while. If the sauce container was full to begin with I wouldn't have needed a extra sauce which I ended up barely using. Talk about being wasteful. read more
