I was a little disappointed with our visit. The waiter was REALLY slow and the food was all warm not hot. The fish and chips were good but the tartar sauce was bland and the coleslaw tasted expired. One of the best meals I've had in a while! All homemade and fresh. The Welsh rarebit appetizer was amazing and not to heavy. My cottage pie was yummy and their bread is out of this world. My aunt got the Chicken Leitrim Boxty because it was something different. Ended the night with an Apple crisp topped with homemade ice cream! We all sampled and enjoyed. This is by far my favorite bar in all of Bethlehem... Maybe of all time. They have a wonderful selection of every whiskey you can imagine and some amazing Irish and English beers on tap as well as an absolutely delicious array of menu items, inspired by English and Irish culture. Awesome find! Great service, wonderful, authentic Irish pub. They poured the best pint of Guinness that I've ever gotten in the United States. We started with the Ploughman's Lunch to share. Wonderful fresh brown bread. Yummy Irish cheddar. I had the fish and chips. Again, fresh and not greasy. My daughter-in-law had Chicken Leitrim Boxty. Very good, I think I'll have it next time. If you are hungry this is the place for you. I highly recommend coming here, because not only was the food delicious, but the staff and apparently were awesome too. They have a large menu, but everything was super fresh. The kitchen chips were some of the best I have ever had, and their steak sandwich was amazing as well. I've only visited McCarthy's for drinks during Musikfest. The security in front walking in checking Musikfest mugs is overkill. If you have anything in the mug you must dump it out. They are not friendly or nice. The drinks were decent but nothing spectacular. Last call was at 11:45. Not sure if it was that earlier due to Musikfest or their normal closing time on a Friday night. We had mug inspection on the way out as well. We go to Musikfest every year and have patronized many restaurant/bar establishments over the years and McCarthy's is the only place to search you. I have visited McCarthy's many times over the years and never get a warm and friendly feeling there from any staff. If they don't like all the business during festivals maybe they should close during it. Other businesses in the area do. read more

We have been here several times and each time has been good but different. They used to have this unbelievably good brown bread and Irish soda bread. Still on the menu but no where near as good. Tonight they had a few issues we ordered fish and chips which is usually the best around the Lehigh Valley but what we got was a far cry from what they normally deliver. I talked to the manager and she got us another order which was perfect. But it is worrisome that the kitchen sent out the first order in that condition. Also my wife ordered the salmon entree but she was brought out a salad with Salmon. The server rectified the mistake promptly. My husband and I have been coming here since they were just a tea room. We LOVE it here! The food is absolutely excellent, with great flavor. We love the whiskey bbq wings, cottage pie, smoke salmon, fish and chips... to name a few! This place is very authentic, the owner is from Ireland. We went to Ireland on our honeymoon and this is the most authentic food and Guinness we have found in the states! They also do a great brunch! Even though it isn't a small restaurant and it gets busy, it still has a very cozy / pub atmosphere. They also have a really nice bar and outdoor patio. They have live Irish music on the weekends, which is a lot of fun! Trivia on Sundays! They have a store in the front of the restaurant (Donegal Square) where you can buy a lot of things from Ireland; sweaters, hats, food, glassware, jewelry, etc. They do not take reservations, but sometimes will do call ahead seating. We started with a Scotch egg, and ordered lamb stew and cottage pie for lunch. We enjoyed the Scotch egg. The stew was excellent and the cottage pie was very good. Breads served on the side were delicious. Service was fantastic. Times to sit, order and be served were pretty fast. Our server was friendly and attentive. The dining room was clean and provided the pub feel. Private booths (with doors) are available. When back in town, we would gladly return to the Red Stag. read more

This was a great spot, we were only in and out at the bar but we had a good time. We were here before a concert at PPL, the place was rocking on a Saturday night. They had an hour wait for a table, so we decided to creep at the bar until someone got up. We got lucky and nabbed a couple seats pretty quickly. They have a great selection of whiskeys and infused jameson. We wound up trying the butterscotch infusion, and I was surprised usually I just like my Jameson neat or on the rocks, but it was good. As for food, I got the cheesesteak (corned beef) and it was delicious and giant, the fries were very good. My wife enjoyed her chicken sandwich, although she did say the chips were a bit stale. I would ask for the Dijon mustard for the cheesesteak, the bartender recommended that it was spot on. Service was pretty great, the bartenders were all super friendly and we felt welcomed, despite not being a regular, which seems like there are plenty. McCarthy's is a cool spot I the quaint downtown of Bethlehem, PA. The interior's rich wood tones evoke remembrances of my trips to Ireland. The service was attentive. My problem was that the food just wasn't that good. My son ordered the Chicken tikka masala. He was aware that we were in an Irish pub but the server assured him that this was a very popular dish in Ireland and recommended it. It was not good. It was bitter and pretty much inedible. We sent it back and ordered the boxty, which was a distinct improvement, but far from memorable. I ordered the chicken wings which were very good, and the Lamb burger which was ok. The other place I'll take Mom to eat and the scotch selection is THE best regionally. They have Islay, that's all you need to know, and a wider selection than the state stores. The Cottage pie was flavorful, but just took thick and pasty. The lamb stew had a good flavor, and stood out as the best of the 3 items ordered. read more

This place is awesome! Both food and drinks were great. Our group split the wings, fondue, and loaded "chips". Delicious! Excellent drink menu as well. They have Kilkenny beer on tap which we have only ever been able to find in Kilkenny, Ireland on the Smithwicks tour. read more

On a nice Sunday evening, my boyfriend and I decided to head to Historic Bethlehem. We put our names in at McCarthy's Red Stag Pub and Whiskey Bar at ~6:30pm and were told there was a ~45 minute wait for outdoor seating. We were willing to wait as the weather was nice and we could explore the various shops. At 7:45pm, the hostess called and said that they wouldn't have outdoor seating available before they switch to their late night menu at 8pm, which has reduced food selections. We were a bit frustrated because we could either wait for outdoor seating and not have the full menu or eat indoors and have the food we wanted. We opted to eat indoors and be able to order main entrees. I am glad we did because our frustrated moods immediately changed after we received our food! It was delicious! I ordered the Irish Cuban which was full of slow-roasted pork, sliced ham, swiss cheese, and Guinness mustard. The toasted blaa bread was wonderful and I especially liked the flavor of the house-pickles. My boyfriend ordered the Fish N' Chips and said they were the best he has ever had! Our first time dining at Red Stag this past Saturday night, which also was the Lehigh Parents weekend. We called ahead, though asked to sit in a specific servers section (Megan Q). Upon arriving the hostess was so friendly and inviting. We were advised of the wait and said we would continue to wait for Megan. After 1.5hrs of waiting, yes Megan is truly worth the wait; we were finally seated in a "Snug" which is a booth with a door. These were the best tables, probably in the Lehigh Valley to dine in. The Wings with the whiskey BBQ were so heavenly, that I ordered those for my appetizer and dinner. We also ordered the chips (fries) with gravy and mushrooms which were also delish. Husband and friend ordered beers and all the other food ordered was beyond what we envisioned for our dining experience. We came here first to support and follow our beloved Megan to her new work establishment and left with having another favorite place to include in our rotation of places to dine.. Megan has only been working here for a couple weeks; though she knew recommendation, what to pair with beverages, provided history on the "Snugs". Her energetic, positive attitude was so infectious and she managed all her tables and the crowd without ever making us feel abandoned or forgotten. The managers were very attentive during our wait also, even brought a Pepsi for me and continued to stay in contact and communicate updates for our table being ready. Cannot wait to return!! Came here with a group of 70 and we took over the restaurant. With a looming snow storm, our prior reservation was cancelled. They were able to accommodate us last minute. Only 2 servers, but we didn't mind any waits as we were busy socializing. Great beer menu....I had a pear cider and a couple unique IPAs. A lot of Irish/English/Scottish food on the menu. I went with the salmon, well done. It was delicious. I also split a few orders of wings as an appetizer (BBQ, hot, and Guinness mustard). They discriminated against my niece who has a slight handicap and wouldn't serve her saying she was visibly inebriated because she stumbled slightly walking in to the place. The place was clean, the prices were fine, and there was a nice liquor selection CONS: The place is small and cramped while the bar had no TVs to watch games on. On top of that they only had one person bathrooms and small portions for food. Which had blue cheese caramelized onion lettuce tomato a great bun and was cooked perfectly! Just moved to Easton and had read about McCarthy's - have now been there twice and LOVED IT! Service? Excellent. Servers were friendly and professional. Atmosphere - Good. Socially distanced and the booths are really nice. I have not yet checked out the upstairs seating but will. Food - Excellent. The first visit was just for a drink and I had the bourbon wings - just to satisfy the COVID rules. What a nice surprise - juicy, tender and moist - crumbled bleu cheese and small diced celery were a different and fun take on typical chicken wing appetizers - very well executed! The next time I had potato leek soup and BBQ Wings. Excellent again! Will be back next week for dinner. A very nice place to have a meal and post-COVID should be a great plate to hang! read more
