Buffalo Chicken Wrap

I was around the corner and ordering from the closest Italian restaurant. I asked if they had buffalo chicken wraps. They responded, "oh yeahhh". I ordered that with blue cheese. When i opened the container, it was basically just a big burrito not even cut in half. It was actually rolled the completely wrong way. as soon as I picked it up, everything just fell out the end. No blue cheese was on it either. I very disappointed. Couldn't even eat it.

We came in on a Thursday night for dinner. We got a slice of pepperoni pizza, meatball sub and a chicken parm. Never had a bad meal here and the service was good. Our waitress was attentive and very nice.

My husband and I went here quite a few times! We are always so impressed with the quality of the food, no matter what we order, as well as the friendly service! It's also a great place for a nice sit down meal in the area. The servings are generous, and the prices are reasonable! I'd be happy to return again and would recommend this place to anyone!

Meatball sub.

My reasoning for coming here and ordering what I did was super random and unlikely to be repeated - one of my chums gave birth a few days ago to a baby that my other friend and I have been affectionally calling a meatball for several months. As a noble gesture, we each decided to separately get something for lunch this past Saturday that was meatball-related. I happened to be passing through Flemington on my way home and figured an Italian place was a decent option to locate said meatballs. So I pulled off Route 31 and wandered in, noting the reserved parking spots right by the entrance for wounded veterans. Nice touch. This is honestly not my kind of place. I'm pretty snobby when it comes to Italian and pizza more specifically - if a pizza place is selling more than just pizza, that's often a red flag for me. I was a little surprised based on the exterior at how casual Angelo's was; I expected a more formal restaurant, possibly with tablecloths, but it's a blue collar by the slice Italian place with a lot of predictable menu items like subs, mainstream pasta dishes, calzones, etc. Not a negative, just not what I was expecting. I grew up in Hunterdon County, so overall I'd say this was pretty par for the course. True to the meatball methodology, I decided to go with a meatball sub (I think around $12 or $13). It was okay. SUPER filling, and reminded me why it's so rare that I get subs. I have portion control issues and never remember to just eat half of one (absolutely my issue and no one else's). The bread was the selling point - it was just the right amount of crispness, despite having to deal with potential sogginess on the part of the tomato sauce within its confines. Very pleasant, and made me consider the possibility of sampling the wood-fired pizzas if I'm ever back here again. The meatballs were also pretty good - not THAT flavorful but juicy/tender and a decent size. I was not crazy about the cheese, though this could be at least partially a personal palate preference. You can see in the attached picture that it's very thick and rubbery, and in parts was a little congealed. It's the most obvious area to upgrade, but overall the sub did the job. As an aside, Milano's in Jersey City has the best fresh mozzy for subs I've ever had. Maybe the owners of Angelo's can go on a recon mission there. I also decided to get a cannoli to round out the adventure (I think about $5). Very tasty, and exactly the right portion for someone who accidentally ate an entire sub. The dough was a little too thin, but honestly I prefer that over it being too thick and overpowering the creamy filling. The service was perfectly fine for the type of establishment this is. When I came in, the waitress was on her cell phone at the counter, but immediately got up and directed me to the seating area. I don't recall waiting a significant amount of time for anything, so above average all the way around. This was also a pretty good price point for the area. Even taking into account that basically every item on Earth is about $3 more expensive than it was last year, I had a huge lunch and dessert that required nothing more than a $20, which included tip. You could do worse. I'm probably not going to have a reason to actively seek out meatballs again any time soon, but this adventure could have been a lot worse.

TLDR: order the Grandma or Sicilian pizza with a burrata appetizer and a cannoli dessert. These options are all very good. Ask for fresh slice if what's delivered is hard as they have no problem serving old slices! We've been 6 times now, it started great and has progressively gone downhill. The pasta is so so with what tastes like canned mushrooms. Staff service is hit or miss, sometimes fantastic and sometimes abysmal. Don't order the drip coffee as it sometimes tastes really bad and according to the server can be 3-4 hours old. When asked if they would make a fresh pot they refused! They have an espresso machine but will only make espresso or cappuccino, they can't make an americano which is just espresso and hot water, ridiculous!

For this visit, we decided to check out Dolce on Main Street in historic Flemington. The restaurant is in a great spot right in the heart of town. We were seated in their tastefully decorated dining room, which felt upscale but still welcoming. For our appetizers, my wife went with the classic caesar salad, which featured classic dressing and herb-crusted croutons. I tried the pear salad which came with walnuts and gorgonzola cheese in a balsamic vinaigrette. Both were a good start to the meal. For the main course, my wife ordered the flounder francaise. It was prepared in a lemon chardonnay sauce with capers and artichokes, which she really enjoyed. I decided to go with the scallop and shrimp special which was pan seared and served with sliced asparagus risotto in a saffron chardonnay lemon sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly and very fresh. We made sure to save room for dessert. My wife had the carrot cake special which was a triple layer cake with real cream cheese, sliced walnuts and golden raisins served with vanilla gelato. I went with the cheesecake. Both were a solid end to the night. The staff were very friendly and attentive throughout our meal, which we appreciated. It's a BYOB, so keep that in mind if you want to bring a bottle of wine along. However, if you forget, they do have a selection of bottles for sale from Alba Vineyard. We'll definitely be returning in the future to try some of their other traditional Italian favorites.

The restaurant is tucked behind a Walgreen's and proximate to an urgent care on a side street off Rt 31, so that might explain it. We arrived for dinner on a random Thursday. The dining room is large, clean, bright, and had a lot of empty tables, but few patrons. They have a take-out business and it was sort of rainy outside, so that explained it in my head. The server came right away and took our beverage orders (it's a BYOB and I still can't get used to that concept). We ordered our meals after our drinks arrived. I like to keep it simple on a first visit. If you've seen my other reviews, it sorta makes sense. I got the linguine, with mushroom sauce and meatballs. It gives me a chance to see if the pasta is boxed or not, how fresh the ingredients are, the taste of the sauce, and if they can make a decent meatball. The linguine was made in the kitchen from scratch and the mushroom marinara was delicious. The meatballs are amongst the best I've had in the area, including two NYC Little Italys (Manhattan and Bronx). The salad was fresh and crisp and the bread came out warm and delicious. It's a bit of a drive from Clinton, but I am going to try their pizza at my next takeout opportunity.

The inside is quaint, with brick and stucco walls. My wife ordered the penne with broccoli. I ordered the linguini alla vongole (linguini with clams) in white wine sauce. Both entrees came with soup or salad. We both chose salad. They also brought some warm bread to the table with oil for dipping, though the bread did seem a little dry. I prefer my bread to be a bit more stretchy/chewy. We both enjoyed our meals. They were a good portion size, with nothing left to bring home. For dessert, I chose the affogato (special), my wife went with the fudge cake, and both of us had cappuccino. It is a BYOB but there is a liquor store next door if you want a bottle (or two) of wine.

I had a craving for carbonara since it is not commonly seen on menus anymore, and theirs was perfect: large pieces of pancetta and a silky sauce coated the linguine nicely. My husband had the blackened salmon dinner special. They also had a frog legs dinner special available! All entrees include bread and a dinner salad. Non-pasta entrees come with a side of penne in marinara sauce. From the dessert tray we selected tartufo, a berry tart, and carrot cake. Prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes and quality. Or a buffet that no longer buffets. But pizza is a big part of their menu and a lot of people order it. I can tell you, from sight alone... I wouldn't call it pizza. It's cheese, toppings, and an extremely flat crust that I can only imagine crunches to smithereens. So I went very much with not pizza. Fortunately, the menu goes many other directions. I got a hot chicken sandwich with Cajun fries, basically regular fries with a little seasoning sprinkled on (not baked in). Took a little while to get to us, but once it did, I was impressed with the spice level. This is not for the faint of tongue. The fries were perfectly cooked, but I would say just get plain fries if that's your vibe. I could have upgraded to onion rings or similar, wasn't feeling quite hungry enough for that venture. Verdict: I don't know. It's not a diner. It's not a pizzeria. Definitely seemed kid-friendly. I think my date liked this place more than I did. So again, I'll go with the balance and stick 4 stars on the wall. Could return, not sure what else in Flemington might attract (seems fairly restaurant-barren).
