We had breakfast at Amphora this morning. I can recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly. The food was well prepared and well presented. Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. We'll be back! read more

This diner is a pleasant surprise! Based on the outside appearance you may think this placed is closed down but it is a true gem to the neighborhood. Inside, the decor is modern, clean, and fresh. The menu is extensive (think Cheesecake Factory) with a wide variety of food. Each time I come to Amphora I try a new dish and I'm yet to be disappointed. So far, my favorite dish is the Cajun Benedict. The servers, especially a young guy named Mustapha, are extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. If your in the area and appreciate great diners this one is a must. read more

The food is OK, but the service is slow and not very helpful. We went late on a Friday night and the guy who was our server didn't speak English all that well. I asked for a chocolate shake which he said they didn't have. About 15 minutes later he randomly showed up with one. While I was glad I got my shake, it was confusing that he'd just bring it without saying they had it beforehand (maybe I'd had changed my mind?". He was also really slow and not attentive when it came to serving us. At one point, another server actually came up and took orders. As for the food itself, it's just alright. Nothing particularly special about it. Deserts are easily the best thing they have to offer. If I were you, I'd just drive a few more minutes down the road and go to Silver Diner if you are looking for a faux-diner experience. The food is a tad better and service is excellent unlike here. read more

Favorite breakfast spot in Herndon/Reston area. They have something for everyone and an extremely friendly wait staff who recognize familiar faces. Portion sizes are huge with a diverse range of side substitutions. Highly recommend their version of a Santa Fe egg entree, corned beef hash, and yogurt parfait. read more

This place definitely cures the late night munchies. I tend to eat here after 11pm. Pretty good diner food and other ethnically influenced items on the menu. I've never had a bad experience with the service or quality of the food. It does get super busy and loud Saturday and Sunday mornings. If you like to eat in peace and not scream across the table, I would definitely suggest stopping by in the evening. read more

Don't go there if you have a Groupon or similar. We did last night, and it became extremely unpleasant. What passed for a manager (he had no authority, and and had to call the "big boss" multiple times) refused to take our Groupon because we had ordered a bottle of wine as part of their Wednesday night half-price wine. They didn't have the wine that was listed on the menu we were given, but offered another "at the same price". He stated as we were trying to pay that the ordering wine off the menu we were given, was using a "promotion", and we couldn't use a Groupon as well, as two "promotions" were not allowed. Long and unpleasant story short, we had to pay full price on the wine to use our Groupon. Don't go. Food was mediocre at best. read more

Very Bad costumer service! I had to wait for a coffee until I about to walk out. Food was not good , and i asked to change for other, but I still had to pay for food that we don't even eat. Suck ! read more

I like the food... been going to the vienna one for years. The Herndon location is horrible. This is the 2nd time I've stopped by the Herndon one and they messed up my order. I called for carryout, a french dip, they didn't even take my name, he said 10 minutes. I get there 10 mins later and pay. I even tjp $2 just b/c. After the lady rings me up i stand there for another 20 minutes. No one even asked me or came up to me to see if i was waiting for something. finally, I went up to a manager and he helped me out. he was in the kitchen for another 5 minutes, came back out with my food. halfway after handing it to me, he says, did you pay for it already!? WTF, i was holding the receipt in my hand, YES, already paid for it. then when I got to my desk, i find out they forgot the cheese... i'll put up with a lot of stuff, but please stop getting the orders messed up. read more

I love Amphora Diner! I've been going there since I was a teenager, and the food has only gotten better with time. Tonight, I've had some of the best service I've ever had there, and that's saying a lot since I've never had bad service at Amphora. Ando was friendly, prompt and attentive the entire time. We didn't have to ask for anything because he anticipated everything we needed (napkins, refills, the check, etc.) The only server we've had better service from was Gabbi on busy Saturday morning with a full section, but Ando was a close second! It's great food and fantastic service that keep us coming back to Amphora time And time again. read more

We have been going to Amphora for 10 years, and things have really gone down hill in the last year or so. The previous manager, who ran a tight ship and was always involved, has been replaced by a couple of lazy, worthless managers who stand around and do nothing. Most of the professional and friendly wait staff are gone as well. The food is still pretty good, but the kitchen seems slower to get food out. It's a real shame because this was our go to spot for weekend breakfasts, and the occasional lunch and dinner. It was a restaurant where we felt recognized and welcomed. Now we are hesitant to go. read more

Not sure why the ratings for this place aren't higher. The food is good, the prices reasonable, and the servers very attentive, but not intrusive. Besides, we were there for dinner and what could make two kids happier than being able to have pancakes for dinner? The manager promised my two grandchildren, ages 4 and 6, that if they ate their whole dinner he would give them a free cookie for dessert. They did and he did. They were thrilled. read more

I had the pleasure to eat at Amphora today, it had been a long time and had forgotten how good the food was, their breakfast menu was incredible, but, what got my attention was the service, I had a young waitress named Evelyn, she was really great, took care of my young granddaughter like she was her own child. Even though she was obviously busy, she took care of our party , like we were her only table. It is tthat kind of service that makes a place, I hope they find more like her , because she really made the difference. I will certainly go back.....very soon read more

Best dinner with lots of americana food options you can find. Prices are pretty good as well.

Dined at Amphora in Herndon, VA today. Ordered the Chicken Souvlaki ($11.95) and upgraded to onion rings (up charge of $1.50). Before I ordered onion rings asked waiter if they were beer battered or cornmeal. He answered "the big ones. the normal ones." He did tell me about the up charge and I went ahead with the order. When my meal arrived, there were 6 chunks of chicken about the size of a quarter on lettuce, tomato, pita with some feta cheese and a cup of sauce. There were exactly 4 onion rings (2 big, 1 medium and 1 small). According the manager the chicken is weighed and was supposed to be 7 oz only. Apparently, the owner changed the portions (down) and the price (up) recently. At the current price of $0.67 per ring and $2.00 per chicken chunk, the meal is not worth it in quality. Buyer beware. read more

Been here a few times, and the food is not spectacular, but it is a cute place. The menu is huuuuge tho, with a nice variety. Great that it's open 24hr tho because I'm such a night owl :P definitely come here for breakfast foods or dessert though. And they definitely do not skimp on the portions. The baklava I got was huge! (not that I'm complaining ;P) read more

If it was possible I would give them zero stars. I just went here to have diner with my boyfriend. Our waiter made absolute no sense when asking us what we wanted to drink. After we get our drinks he walks 4 times around us and doesn't even ask us if we're ready to order. Once we order he gets the order in and then brings us our appetizer with only one of the sauces. We then had to call him over and he brought to us looking like it was so dreadful to actually work lmao! After that he kept ignoring us and finally we got our food. My boyfriend was trying to get the ketchup out of the bottle when it accidentally spilled over him the table and the floor. He went to the bathroom and on his way the host of the restaurant saw him and all she said was ' that looks bad' doesn't even offer him a napkin or anything. I felt really bad and obviously I decided to try and go up to one of the staff so I could at least get something to clean it up. The manger I assume was talking to hostess and puts his hand out to me basically telling me to wait. Once I get the chance to talk to him I ask him for a rag and then he brings out and he says it has bleach? I asked him is it sanitizer and he said yes lmao I'm pretty it wasn't but whatever. I started to clean the table and then I realized that we got it on the floor so I felt really bad I started cleaning the floor as well. This whole time do you think any of the staff does anything to help me.. I understand we made the mess but at least ask me if I need any help. After finishing the mess I give back the rag to the guy and he then asks me what happened. Like dude you should've asked me before lol I then tried to go to the bathroom and this guy asked me if I could change the tv bc he thought I worked there! Basically because no server or manger or host was around to help the guy and I was the only working around there cleaning. Back to our server he basically never came to the table never asked how we were doing and damn we really had to ask him for napkins and he only gave us two. Once we try to get the check he already trying to leave before I can ask him for a box and some lids. He then brings the box and puts the lids on the table and literally makes it seem like I asked for so much with that. Like dude we barely even got to talk to you or see you throughout the whole service since you were gone for everything. We then go to pay the tab and another different guy was rude as well. I asked him if he used gloves to grab my cookie and he gave me an attitude. Everyone that worked there during the shift was terrible. No one was attentive or even cared a little bit definitely not coming ever again! And I know I wasn't the only customer there that felt the same way because table across from us sat there for a few min and were already complaining about the server. read more

wwas served my entree. had a hair in it; no question that it was NOT my own (dirrefernt color!). politely informed the waiter who seemed genuinely concerned, he got the ''manager' . The 'mananger' examined the contaminated food and stated ' what do you want me to do about it? I can offer you a free dessert.' I kid you not! STAY AWAY!! read more

Terrible service. Staff doesn't know the menu. Waiter was incompetent. My order was screwed up. The manager came to my table to tell me there is a mistake in the menu. Neither the waiter or manager offered an apology for ruining my dinner. There are many other quality places to eat in Herndon other than the Amphora DUMP! The quality has deteriorated over the last few years. I will never spend another dime there! Don't waste your time or money at this God forsaken excuse for a restaurant! read more

This place is open whenever you need it (we were there on Christmas Day - don't ask why, LOL) and between the Greek and American items on the menu, you can always find something you like. Our waitress was pretty quick with our meals and the check too. If I had to pick on something, I guess the fries were not as good the last time we were there. But the desserts make up for it! read more

Today i and my friend came to the restaurant for brunch...we order an appetizer followed by blueberry pancakes and omelet. This was the worst experience ever. the omelet wasn't tasty at all with no salt and the buffalo wings were very very dry. Pancakes are the worsttttttt, we spent 40$ on these items and we left more then half of the food we ordered. Please prefer some other better restaurant then this. ITS NOT WORTH THE AMOUNT YOU SPEND!! not even close! read more

Just had the absolute worst experience with this resturant. I ordered carryout for seven people, paid $92 dollars in total for all the food. The food was HORRBILE, TASTELESS, AND RUSHED ans made everyone's stomach hurt. We decided to bring all the food back to the resturant, all of it barely eaten, and the owner only paid back $72 KEEPING $20. Even though the girl at the register clearly remembered ringing us up for the $92 order. If you think about getting BREAKFAST DON'T DO IT. You will be VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

My husband and I went to the diner this past Friday evening. Not only were the omelets that we ordered fantastic, but the service we received from B our server was just outstanding. Are you looking for a diner that feels like home? A great place for breakfast that is open 24-hours a day? My husband and I have been having Sunday breakfast about twice a month for about thirteen years at Amphora. We have never been disappointed - Eggs Benedict various ways, pancakes, French toast, the 'all-the-way' bagel to mention a few. The menu is extensive and the kitchen will make any adjustments that you ask for. We love that waiters and waitresses have been there for years and we have gotten to know many (Mary and Shawn) -- the service is always wonderful. It is wonderful to have a great place that is comfortable. In addition I host a group one Saturday a month for breakfast of anywhere from six to fifteen and the staff always goes out of their way to make us comfortable. The carry-out bakery items are wonderful - if you are ever in doubt and need a dessert try the White Chocolate Raspberry Mousse Cake! If you are looking for a comfortable place, with good food and a wonderful staff I recommend stopping by. read more

Came to this diner for the first time. Being from NY I love trying new diners. I loved the decor. The menu was huge with many familiar favorites and some creative new items. We started with a couple of side salads and chili. The chili was okay. We ordered 2 bacon cheeseburgers and a veggie burger with cheese. The waitress had informed my uncle that they had a new brand of veggie burgers. My bacon cheeseburger and my aunts was delicious. My uncle on the other hand went to go and cut his burger and the knife got stuck inside. It was as though it was thawed and microwaved. It was rubber. As good as my burger was the veggie burger my uncle was served was disgusting hence the 2 star review. If you can't keep up with your 40 page menu and keep ingredients fresh maybe it's time to make your menu smaller. The waitress was nice and he ordered a quesadilla instead that he enjoyed. May or may not go back. read more

I used to take my kids there for breakfast for years after it first opened. It was very popular and breakfast was very good. After more than a decade away, I went back for a birthday dinner with my family. What a change. It was a Saturday night and the place was less than half full. Some of my party had breakfast, which they serve 24/7. It was still good. I ordered a beer but after one, they were out of the type of beer I ordered. They had a very poor beer and wine selection. I had a Greek salad. You would think that a Greek restaurant would have a good Greek salad. I was very disappointed. It was a mess. The salad came with diced tomatoes and the cucumbers were like half crescent moons with a rind and with the center gone. And there were no Greek olives. The house Greek salad dressing was indescribable and appeared to be tomato based. It was not good. No pita was served with it. The gyro meat was the only thing good about it. I know why it was not crowded. They need to step up their game and go back to basics. It doesn't do to have an extensive menu if you can't even do a Greek salad right. read more

I organized a Valentine Dinner in the private room for a large group. The room was beautifully decorated with nice floral bouquets, white linen tablecloths, and red napkins. Each table had an abundant appetizer platter with a variety of cheeses, crackers and dried fruits, all delightfully tasty. Amphora offered a special Valentine's Day menu that included salad, lobster bisque (exceptionally good), a choice of four entrees (Almond Crusted Salmon, Pan Seared Blackened Sea Scallops, Pan Seared Tender Beef Medallions, Garlic Studded Prime Rib), sides, and of course their fabulous desserts. I had the beef medallions and they arrived hot and beautifully prepared, medium rare with a warm red center. I was impressed given the size of our group. Everyone had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend Amphora, especially for private group events. The wait staff was very attentive and George and Sara were gracious to work with. read more

Amphora in Herndon used to be a reliable neighborhood diner, but the quality of the food and service has declined in recent months. The whole restaurant needs to be updated and the booth cushions replaced; it feels as though one is sitting on a piece of plywood and it is very uncomfortable. The service is slow and one has to keep asking for condiments, creamer, etc. repeatedly, things that should be brought to the table automatically. And the food is barely acceptable. On our most recent visit this week, the potatoes accompanying my omelet were burned, and the toast wasn't even toasted. And an open-faced hot Reuben sandwich that we requested be served as a regular sandwich that could be eaten with our hands rather than a knife and fork was a disaster. It arrived COLD on white bread (not the customary rye), complete with cold corned beef, a cold slice of Swiss cheese, and cold sauerkraut. Unbelievable!!!! Who is the "chef" in the kitchen?? We won't be going back until we hear that necessary improvements have been made. read more

We have been loyally coming to Amphora for about 10 years, including having dinners catered. The food was good at fair prices, the management (particularly the front of the house manager) ran a very tight ship, and the wait staff seemed very loyal. The place started to go downhill about a 12-18 months ago - the prices went up, the management changed, and there is a constant turnover with the wait staff. The last few times we have been in we experienced ok (but overpriced) food, and VERY slow and inexperienced service - including a front of house manager who left us standing in the entrance waiting for a table (when there were plenty available) for about 10 minutes while he chatted with the staff - and once we were seated, another 10 minutes went by before I finally flagged down a waitress to get our order taken. I am looking elsewhere for my diner fix. Amphora, PLEASE fix your management and we might return! read more

I am taking this restaurant off my list of places to dine, and will not recommend the restaurant to any relatives, friend, or coworkers. In the past my family and I have enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the restaurant. I went into the restaurant yesterday and it appeared the management had changed. I was seated, but couldn't get served. After being seated I was never offered a glass a water until I called the manager over. Then he tried to give me a compliment and brought me not "one', but "two" drinks. I guess he thought, she's a woman I will give her a compliment and she will be happy. As I sat and wait for my husband to arrive, I noticed some other customers walked in and the manager and staff almost "tripped" over themselves getting the table cleaned and serving them. I use to enjoy this restaurant, but was highly disappointed!!! - don't want to make this a racial issue. read more

on a Sunday NITE i walked in and was approached by someone and i asked to place a to go order......was told i had to sit at counter to order..tick,,,,tock,,,,,,,finally my order was placed, a turkey dinner....tick....tock...tick...tock...30 mins later still waiting. as i now asked for a oatmeal raisin cookie to go with my order which was not put in my order but in a bag and set in front of me at the counter...no biggie here. did anyone ask if i would like a drink while a was waiting? no everyone scurrying about in a panic.the turkey was processed not fresh, the `stuffing` a microwaved mush and that cookie STALE! the baked potato and steamed veggies were the only thing good. and how can a bakery not add a roll or 2? the nacho was a mess, the cheese all melted together in a clump, the chips all sogg ymy second. turkey dinner was equally as bad. not the usual stuffing, but a out of box stuffing, which wasnt fully mixed because i got a rock hard piece of stuffing enough to break a tooth. and didnt get a salad or cranberry sauce, this mess wound up in the trash. read more
