They said the repair would include replacing the left analog stick controller board assembly to restore functionality. The quoted cost was $230 + tax, with an estimated turnaround time of 2-5 business days. After that, I had to call almost every day just to get updates. Then today, I received a different message saying they had received replacement parts, but not the full set. They said they could replace the damaged analog sticks themselves, but were still waiting for the round LED light rings around the sticks. They also said they could return the device with the controllers functional, but the left stick would have no LED light ring. That was concerning because the original diagnosis and quote were for the left analog stick controller board assembly, but the later message described replacing the analog sticks themselves and leaving the LED ring unfinished. For $230 + tax, I do not think a partial or incomplete repair is acceptable. When I went to pick up the device, I had already called and was told it was ready. But when I arrived, I still had to wait around 30 minutes while they reassembled it. That is not "ready for pickup." To be fair, the owner was there and was kind, apologetic, and professional. My issue was not with him. My issue was with the repair technician handling my device. His attitude was horrendous, and the interaction felt careless and unprofessional. The worst part is that after testing my ROG Ally X in-store, the left trigger felt worse than before, and the light around the stick was no longer working. I brought the device in for a specific repair, and I left feeling like it had been returned with new problems. As someone who runs a tech company and understands customer service, I was shocked by how poorly the repair side of this was handled. They are VERY expensive at $349 + tax, (use Zelle to avoid additional cc fees). While I'm not thrilled about the cost, I understand that they charge the ~$100+ premium given (apparently) OEM parts and speed of turnaround (I got my machine back in about 1.5h). That was worth it for me. FWIW I got a quote for $160 including tax and labor at another business in Queens (probably non OEM parts), $350 from another Apple authorized place in Manhattan but I'd have had to mail-in and turn around was estimated to be about 9 to 12 day. Apple itself was $249, they quoted 7 to 9 day turn-around. And that was after having to waste my time going in to the "genius" bar. These guys also have two convenient locations in Manhattan which I appreciated. So if I look at all that I the premium stings a little less. The work also seems solid. I liked their efficiency and style of communication, but quick turnaround and quality of service/parts was mainly what I paid for.

They were fully prepared to charge me $1,760 for "repairs" that were not necessary, or 2. They performed repairs without my consent, then failed to disclose it when returning the device. Either way, this is dishonest and exploitative. I'm relieved I got my data back, but I feel like I narrowly avoided being scammed out of a huge sum of money. Consumers deserve transparency and integrity--qualities this company clearly lacks.
