My husband and I have taken our computers to be fixed many times over the years to catcom and we've been so happy with the results. But recently, I was having a hard time opening a hard drive on my laptop. I didn't know where to turn so I stopped by catcom and the guys there were beyond helpful. Took my computer here for repair and can say I'm pretty satisfied. $25 for the diagnostic and then labor and parts just as if you're to go to a mechanic for your car. Also just like going to a mechanic it may cost you, but when you're not a tech head like myself then it may be worth it. I'm not completely computer illiterate but I tried for about a week to figure what was wrong myself but couldn't. Im also sure this place is a better alternative to say Geek squad at Best Buy both for a better deal and to support a smaller business. Speaking of deals they have a couple of yelp deals which is a nice perk. The shop is small and there isn't really a place to park but the service is friendly and my computer which I rely on is working again. If your PC or Mac is down, give them a call. read more

I went to Radio Shack and Staples looking for help. No luck. I was on my way home when by chance I spotted Catcom's store front. Success! The young man who helped me was far more knowledgeable and willing to help me than the so-called techies at Radio Shack and Staples. He knew that the part I needed for my Asus laptop was comparable to a Toshiba part. A few minutes later, i was,in my car heading home wirh the part i needed. Problem solved. Reasonable price. Great customer service. This experience is another reason why I prefer doing business with locally owned small businesses, instead of chain stores. I have another laptop that needs servicing. I'm going to use their Yelp discount offer and have Catcom fix that laptop as well. read more

I had an issue with the battery on my brand new Macbook pro, so I took it to Catcom computers where they informed me that I just needed a new battery. They said my warranty would cover it and I could pick it up the next day. Well the next morning they called me and informed me that my brand new computer was water damaged, which voided my warranty, and that they would have to replace the entire bottom panel costing me well over $500. I told them I would be taking my computer elsewhere. I went to pick it up and they took me in the back to show me the sensor, which didn't really look like anything to me. There were three guys in the back, all of them drinking coffee while working on very expensive electronics. The guy then told me I would have to wait a couple hours for them to put it back together before I could take it. This was before noon, and my computer was not reassembled until about 4:30 pm. I took it from there right to the Apple store nearest my house, where they opened they disassembled and reassembled the computer in about 5 minutes. They told me that there was absolutely NO water damage to my computer, and that it was absolutely still under warranty. Instead of replacing the battery or trying to rip me off, they just gave me a whole new computer. The manager also told me that he had never heard of Catcom computers, and that it was not on his list of authorized apple service centers in the area. The person behind the counter also added his crappy band to my spotify account, which made me uncomfortable. He should not be opening my programs and going through my personal accounts. Great, easy experience. I brought in an external hard drive on which the USB cord's connection had become detached. I was prepared to pay to have all of my backed-up files protected, whether it be through repairing the drive or moving them to a new drive. I was very pleasantly surprised by the number of options that were offered to me to resolve the situation. So I just want to start by saying how ignorant Mr. Ronnie S is down there. If you actually knew anything about computers you would know that the only way find somethings out is through the process of elimination. Example: If your computer is overheating the first thing you do is speculate to whether the fan is operating properly or not. If it seems to be operating fine then most likely you need to open it up, blow out the fan with canned air (just in case) and replace the compound. If that doesnt fix the issue then you know theres something else wrong (maybe an intermittent fan issue or more than likely the motherboard at that point) and further troubleshooting would need to occur. why don't you save your accusations for when you actually have a clue. idiot. That place is great and does fantastic work. I've known the owner for years and there is no scamming or "robbery" of any sort there. I have been using Catcom since I moved here back in 2004 they have always been excellent, they are fast, reliable and most of all don't try to charge you a lot of money. I am not computer savvy in the least so I rely on them when we have a problem. They won't try to sell you a new computer unless the old one is ready for the grave. They have even tried to help me over the phone. I love knowing that is something is wrong there is a good local company to rely on. My husband had them build a computer for him, he is a mechanic and needed a computer that would support multiple car computer programs. I can't say enough about them. read more

The battery on my daughter's iPhone 4S was getting worse and worse at holding a charge. Catcom ordered the replacement battery and installed it quickly and properly. No need to send it out to Apple (and wait). It was competitively priced. Full disclosure: my business does business with Catcom...so using their service was a natural choice in this instance. Great local computer repair place. I have been going to these guys for many many years. Always fast and fair service. Great place to get your Mac or PC repaired. The guys that work there and the owner have always been very honest and fair when they have been advising me about the issues I am having with my technology. I am one of the many who have learned the hard way in concerns to Applecare's warranty not covering accidental damage. Needless to say, I recently had a hiccup and broke my computer screen. Distraught, I immediately contacted apple who recommended that I take my product to Catcom for repair. I looked them up on google and realized they are very poorly reviewed. I ignored it thinking they can't be that bad, they're 'Apple Certified': boy was I wrong. After the half an hour drive, I get there and I'm greeted by the attendant who I spoke with over the phone. He then gives me the bad news of my repair not being under warranty. I ask him how much would it cost: he tells me he can't give me a price exactly or at least not without diagnosing the problem. Understandable, I thought: I proceed to give him all of the information concerning the computer (model #, type, etc.). I never thought there were any issues besides the screen and so I then ask how much does a screen replacement for my model typically cost: he replied around 100$ w/ 90$ for labor and states that they would have to diagnose it first to be sure. I'm thinking hey, it sucks but that's not that bad: I pay the fee to have it diagnosed and drive home. As soon as I arrive home I get a call from that same attendant who confirms that the issue was just the screen but that the replacement would cost 565$ PLUS TAX AND 90$ FOR THE LABOR!!! I WAS PISSED!!! I asked why did it cost so much and how could he mistake such a figure: his replies, it's an apple product. The first thing that came to my mind was "Scam" so immediately I contacted Apple to report the situation: the representative explained to me that their hands were tied since technically they're not Apple and thus not responsible. What's worse is that he joked stating that as a college student I shouldn't have bought an apple computer in the first place. Needless to say I went back to get my computer as soon as I could: I tried to get refunded but the manager refused and instead tried to get me to pay for the repair, promising to deduct the fee; he also claimed that the attendant is new. To sum up my experience in a few words, ahem... DON'T GO THERE EVER!!!! Need some help: Menlo Park, Garden State, and Short Hills are really not much farther away. read more
