This is the most variety of Thai food I found in a Thai restaurant in northern NJ thus far. Interior 5/5 - nicely decorated and inviting. Tables were spaced apart with enough space that you're not on top of each other. Exterior 5/5 - plenty of parking. Make sure you park on the lot to the right and not the left of the restaurant. Food 4.5/5- I got the Khao Soi and Yen Ta Four. Both were noodle dishes and both were something I wanted to eat but not a lot of places serve it. The flavor was there and I really enjoyed both. There were crispy wontons on top of both dishes and it was better placed on the Khao Soi because the soup absorbed it and made it more easier to eat but still offered that crunch! Normally Yen ta four is soup based but I'm glad they made it a dry version (pan fried noodles style). There wasn't that wok flavor but nonetheless a good meal. Friendly staff. We've dined here on a few occasions in the past and enjoyed our experience, however when we dined there last night there was NO heat...none!! The dining room was sub-50 degrees and extremely uncomfortable to dine...absolutely frigid! They had two of the smallest space heaters in a large dining room that provided zero warmth. We should have left upon arrival, but we met some friends there and it was already late by the time we were seated. The bathrooms were not in an acceptable condition and no paper towels were available nor a hand dryer in the men's room. I'm not sure what's happen to the Management of this establishment, but I would advise to take a much closer look at your customers comfort and overall dining experience. Found this when I was around the Closter area and looking for a place to eat. Saw this was just a few miles away in River Vale and decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed! Although it's a little far for me, the drive is worth it and this place has now become my go-to for Thai food. There's quite a few Thai restaurants around Bergen County so there's a bit of competition around the area, but quality is where this place stands out. Every dish I've tried has been fantastic and a clear step above the other places in the area. My personal favorite is the Gra Pow, and their spice level is excellent to still enjoy it without getting your eyes watery. You can tell they use quality ingredients in their food. The staff is very friendly as well, coming into check often. This place always seems to be pretty full which tells me they have no issues with their business. I haven't tried their takeout but they seem to do that well judging by the number of orders they have. If I have a complaint it's that the portion sizes are just TOO SMALL, especially for the price. When coming for lunch, I'm always left hungry and the dinner portion isn't all that much bigger. You're definitely choosing quality over quantity here, so if you're super hungry and looking for a cheap meal I'd look elsewhere. read more

I dropped a star because of the pricing in relation to portion - imma be honest and say that I've seen places in NYC be cheaper than here and also provide better portions. But quality overall in relation to pricing wasn't outrageous either. Service (4/5) - service here was def above average in terms of their attentiveness! I usually down water pretty quickly and they were very prompt about refilling and also checking in to make sure things were fine. Def noticed their mannerism was nicer and warmer than other places. Experience (4/5) - The ambiance and environment was really warm and nice. They utilize a lot of soft lighting and nature/wood tones to make the space inviting. I went during the evening and the interior/vibe really elevated the entire experience overall. I can def picture people choosing here as a date spot or a nicer/formal eating spot. We sat down and right swayed loved the ambience with the lights and art on walls. We got the pork belly fried rice as an appetizer which was incredible with huge chucks of pork belly. We followed that up with the Massaman chicken curry and Chai Ya Talay (seafood stir fry). Both entres were flavorful and and surpassed expectations . Still my favorite spot and it never disappoints - I've literally gone twice in two weeks! Since I have always gotten the same dishes (Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Pad See Ew, Spicy Pork & Basil - or the occasional Duck Salad, Honey Rib, Basil Fried Rice), I noticed a lot of tables that had this dish and knew I had to get it too - the Crispy Betel Leaves are such a great starter. I am sad to say that this restaurant does not treat it's repeat customers with any respect! I attended a birthday dinner tonight for a friend who is a frequent diner at this "kitchen" and I was the one who brought the cake. (Note that I also had my own candle, matches & spatula.) We simply asked the waitress to set the cake in a refrigerator. No one indicated that there would be a $20 (yes TWENTY dollar) "Cakeage Fee" on the bill!! I would also add that there were 15 of us, many of our number ordering appetizers and main dishes. On a Wednesday night. In a restaurant that was mostly empty. I would think that this would be a delight to any business owner. Apparently this owner felt a need to surcharge on an already lucrative opportunity. This restaurant is possibly one of the best Thai restaurants on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River. A friend and I walked in on a Friday early evening for dinner. Even though we did not have a reservation, the staff was quickly able to make a spot for us. Soon after, a large party of eight sat at the table setting next to us, and it seemed like they had made a reservation. The restaurant was at least 70 percent packed, and it also seemed like there was a consistent stream of takeout/deliveries. We started with the Curry Puff to share and Tom Yum Shrimp soup for each of us. The Curry Puff had great flavor with light and flaky puff pastry, and Tom Yum soup had a surprising number of shrimp in a small bowl (instead of the measley single shrimp you might see in other places) and had the right balance of sour and refreshing. For the main dishes, we got the Boat Noodle and Pad Thai to share. It was my first time trying Boat Noodle, and I felt the broth had great depth in flavor and there were plentiful pieces of meat. The Pad Thai also had a nice flavor and was very yummy. The interior of the restaurant was classy with a combination of lots of natural light coming in from the window (one side of the restaurant is almost entirely glass) and lighting in the restaurant. I had the crispy pork belly basil with veggies and the spring rolls. The spring rolls were hot and tasty. The pork belly was perfectly spiced and seasoned, had a ton of flavor, and was super crispy. The veggies were sautéed just right. And the addition of the pineapple added amazing acidity and contrast! My Thai iced tea was cold and refreshing. My coworker had the green curry with chicken and also felt it was the best he'd had in a long time. Another coworker had pad Thai. This place is different than others we've patronized before because he was able to have more than one protein. Most places you can only order chicken or tofu or pork etc. This spot allowed him to order chicken, tofu, and veggies, which really elevated his dish and added so much flavor and texture. Typical curries and noodles, but they also have refreshing salads, dishes like braised short ribs (full of Thai flavor and looked amazing). Lots of wok and stir-fry dishes. I called to place a large and complex order for pickup, and the woman who answered the phone did not miss a beat. She even read the order back to me with complete accuracy. When I went to collect the food, I discovered everything was similarly as ordered. In addition, the dining area was modern and inviting, which made me wish I was dining there instead...next time! I had ordered the Pad See Ew with steamed tofu and mixed vegetables, which I found delicious! My only comments were that I wished there were less string beans and more of the other veggies. BYO is also nice. Crispy Betel Leaves app was outstanding. With the very cool heart shaped leaf it was something we never heard of, nevertheless tasted, so we really enjoyed the new flavor. Nice explanation of its origins from the very sweet waitress, and the seafood stuffing was fab. The Fried Bronzino with Apple Salad was massive and tasty. Takes some work but you get your fill. Not my first choice but good. The Crispy Duck and Lychee Salad ($15) was delicious, glad we shared it. Might be my main next time. I had the Pad Cha Seafood which was also good, but be careful of the spice level. Be careful of the high sodium level, we were thirsty all night long. The crab fried rice is extremely popular and it's packed with real fresh crab meat! So if you love crab, this is a definite dish for you! What's missing in my review is the Massaman chicken dish. Pad Thai (vegetable and tofu): Balance of noodle to other items was good. Ingredients were fresh (no wilted vegetables, for example). Noodles were cooked to the correct softness. However, there needed to be a bit more fish sauce, much less sugar and lime was missing! Overall, the flavor was OK but overly sweet. Chicken green curry: This was better than the Pas Thai. The ingredients were fresh and there was a lot of chicken but the balance to vegetables was poor in other words not enough vegetables. Spice level was pleasantly satisfying but it could have been a touch more spicy. You couldn't taste the sugar but you could tell it was not spared. The flavor. overall, could have been a touch more bold and the vegetables were way overcooked. Pre- prepared curry was poured over precooked chicken. Quantity of food was adequate. Ambiance is unknown as the food was delivered. And service the same but delivery was adequate! Slight improvements here and there could substantially boost food scores. The fried rice was deliciously spicy with tons of pork belly pieces and veggies. My curry had some good spice to it and a surprising amount of chicken, I was very happy. The ambiance, vibe and service 10/10, and the restaurant is always bustling with a bunch of people on any given day. Ample parking which is also a plus. Now to the main course the food of course! I loved the food every time I went, and there's a lot more variety in dishes compared to other Thai restaurants, so many things to choose from! My most recent visit I enjoyed the spicy pork belly & basil which I never had before & was very impressed. Now the only slight downside I would mention is that like other reviews have said, the served portions/ meal sizes are definitely less than expected and smaller, I noticed more so when I did takeout. We were able to secure a table just before 9:30 which is when the kitchen stops taking orders. Our waiter was very kind and patient when we asked any questions, I appreciated this very much :) I really liked how the owners decorated the restaurant as it reminds me a few other Thai restaurants I frequent! Now to the best part - THE FOOD! For an appetizer, we ordered the Crispy Spring Rolls which were very tasty and exactly as I had hoped they'd taste! They truly are one of my favorite appetizers to order. For the main dish, my boyfriend ordered the Green Curry with Chicken which tends to be his go-to when we go to Thai restaurants and he said he really liked this dish. Ammata Thai Kitchen is a good Thai option for the area, but there are some areas for improvement. 1. Their lunch menu is confusing! Don't be confused - this is how it works: You choose an entree from their non priced entrees list, then you pick a protein (the entree is the cost listed next to the protein), and then you can also pick a salad, spring roll, or soup (yum if you like sour!). 2. The menu lists ingredients which we appreciate, but we weren't really sure what the entree was going to be like until it arrived. Better descriptions on the menu (and from the staff) would be greatly appreciate. Some things that they can't help, but you should note are: 1. Their parking lot is confusing. Like, which one is it? I had no idea until I parked, went to enter, and then saw a large sign that the one I thought was it, wasn't. 2. It's difficult to enter - unless you're driving down the right side of Rivervale Road you can't make a left turn in.
