This is a great place to go when you're feeling adventurous and want to try Northern Thai dishes because that's really their specialty. You most likely won't find the Northern Thai dishes at other Thai restaurants. The crispy betal leaves dish is a must, we get this every time and it's always delicious - shrimp, shallot, ginger, roasted coconut, peanut, scallion - intense flavor and deliciousness, balanced with crispy betal leaves. On a recent visit, we also got the Crab & Shrimp curry, which is homemade turmeric curry paste, coconut milk, betel leaves, kaffir lime leaves, bamboo - this was also delicious and another nice mix of intense flavors. The amount of crab and shrimp were good for a $32 dish. We also ordered the pad see ew which was kind of disappointing and not how I remembered on previous visits - while the noodles were fresh, the flavor was lacking and there was no smokiness to it - just tasted like a mediocre soy sauce noodle. Husband did his research and came up with a winner! BYOB and exceptional service. Saturday night reservations a must. Sat by the front window and felt safely distanced. Loved the ice bucket for our sparkling rose that hooked right onto the table. Honey ribs and satay were the best ever. Chu chee curry with shrimp was new to us and the lump crab rice was so light and flavorful. Both perfect. Have enough leftovers for a lunch. Only disappointment was they were out of the dessert we had been looking forward to. Blown away! I'm a chef and I'm telling you this! And a kick-ass kitchen crew and waitstaff too, and the main mention, the food is incredible. For reference, we had Crispy Betel Leaves and Larb starters. Dinner was Boat Noodles, Red Snapper, Chicken Red Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice and Chicken Pad Krow. One of the better thai restaurants for both its interior and food. For four people, it was $130. The kee mao is definitely the best dish here. I would say there is a little bit of noodle but a lot of protein. I had chicken and it was very tender. The seafood is not worth it. About six of each type. For $26 we expected more. The fried rice came out with the wrong protein the first time. I was able to take a bite if the steak though lol. The steak rice has better meat but the pork rice had better rice. The soup with beef was very good. Salty, but very tender. The soup appetizer was very sour, but it is a reasonable price considering we got 3 shrimps. The honey ribs fell off the bone and is a decent portion as even a main dish if you don't eat that much. The pickles were too sweet though. Skip the spring rolls. Way too costly for such a small portion. Overall, this place has potential. If you don't like a loud restaurant that smells like fish sauce, don't come here. It's definitely not upscale as you can see utensils come in a paper napkin and wooden chopsticks. In fact, the water tastes really bad because it's tap. Fantastic modern Thai restaurant in downtown River Vale. The restaurant is clean, well-decorated, and plenty of seating is available. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. Food was excellent through and through. For appetizers we ordered the Honey Ribs and the Crispy Betel Leaves. The ribs were tender, juicy, and flavorful. The crispy Betel leaves pair nicely with the shrimp & shallots stir-fry. For entrees we got the Boat Noodle Soup and Pad See Ew. The Boat Noodle Soup was definitely the highlight. (Avg wait time for food is 1hr after you place an order) we always stick to the same things: shrimp pad thai and chicken pad see ew. This place is amazing. The tum yum soup is the best version in the area and the Thai Basil Rice is made to perfection every time. The staff and owners are super friendly as well. I have ordered from this place on several occasions and have never had a bad meal. Sometimes, they mix up my order and give me shrimp tum yum soup (instead of chicken) but they are always super apologetic and do their best to make it right. The first time I sat in and ate inside was extremely pleasant. They were very friendly and conscious. They spaced every party's seating appropriately to give everyone space from each other which made me feel comfortable. It is a BYOB, but that just means you get to bring your favorite alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink to enjoy with your meal and they will gladly bring glasses for everyone. This was one of the best Thai restaurants I have been to. I believe there is common ownership as the Thai restaurant, GAO, in Ramsey. The menu item are expensive but excellent quality. The tenderloin that is in the stir fry or noodle dishes are quality pieces of meat, which are cooked perfectly and sliced thick, unlike what is found in most Thai dishes. Good amount of vegetables and it's an excellent noodle soup. I tend to prefer clear soup so not sure if I would order it again but it was good. Something you may want to try. They have an interesting menu from other Thai place, with a more basic part and an adventurous part. I had the pork belly pad bo raan ($13) from the adventurous side and it was ok. There was a lot of pork but they were pretty fatty, and not really crisp. Other dishes did look good and I appreciated the variety. Might be good to try their more traditional fare next time.
