Brought a life-threatening allergen directly to our table after they were told about the seriousness of the allergy. When we ordered, we explained that someone in our party had a severe peanut allergy and we were assured the dish could very easily be prepared without peanuts and they accommodated the request regularly. Instead, it arrived covered in peanuts, with no warning. Our entrees took over an hour and twenty minutes to arrive. I was so hungry I nearly left before the food came. One dish was described as only slightly sweet but turned out to be so overwhelmingly spicy that I couldn't eat it--and I have a very high tolerance for spicy food. The restaurant seemed seriously understaffed, and it was extremely difficult to get our server's attention. When we explained how dangerous the allergen mistake was, the staff argued instead of taking responsibility. It was honestly surreal. The attitude was terrible. We were told there was "no manager" on staff. Our table had no water for most of the meal, and when it finally arrived, it was barely drinkable. I will never return. read more

We found this new fancy Thai restaurant in downtown Ridgewood, right next to the station. The interior of the place was beautiful, with upscale tableware and lighting. They had outdoor seating as well. The menu had several exciting dishes like crab curry, duck, several branzinos, fried rice and noodles. We started with the thai iced tea that was decent. We ordered the spring rolls for appetizers, which were also fine. For entree, I got the steamed branzino on chili lime sauce. It was exactly how I anticipated, a whole branzino filet soaked in delicious citrus flavor sauce. I wish they had poured more of the sauce in the dish. But still loved it. The crispy duck with red curry was delicious too, but the duck was extra fried. Finally we got the mango sticky rice that came with two delicious halves of mango, but the rice needed more coconut/sticky milk. After we ate the top portion of the rice, rest of the 80% rice was just regular. The service was wonderful. For a small place, they had 3 staff members attending all the tables and a separate member was bringing out all the dishes. They also checked on all the guests multiple times throughout the lunch. Very friendly people. Dishes came out within short intervals as well. Overall really nice Thai spot. I'll be back soon to try some of the other dishes. read more

Wonderful Thai restaurant at Ridgewood. Bold and flavorful taste. You have the kick, the sweet, the savory all in 1. Taro spring rolls are crispy. Dipping sauce is great combination with it. Crispy Duck Ted Curry has a punch. Duck is cooked beautifully. The curry is spicy and packed with flavor. It has tomatoes, lychee and pineapple inside, kinda act like a counter for the spice. Steamed fish chili lime is a must try. Very close to what I had in Asia. Strong citrus taste elevated the dish. Great filet skill. Looks and tastes yummy. The place is clean and modern. Indoor and outdoor seating. It's right next to the train track tho, prob every hour there's a train (really loud). The staff are very nice and friendly. So happy I discovered Chorn Thong! We came in on a Saturday and it was packed - we're lucky we got the last available table. The decor is bright and the artwork on the wall is so beautiful, which I eventually found out was hand drawn by the owner, which is so impressive. The service is on another level. Mike is the best and always makes sure we have a good time. The food is so authentic and Nana's recipes are to die for. It's also BYOB so make sure to bring a good wine to pair with the amazing food. The Chicken Satay is a must get. It is plump and juicy, which isn't always the case with this dish at other spots I've been to. The Tod Mun Goong (fried shrimp donut), was one of my favorites of the appetizers, the flavors really burst. As for the entree, the classics were good but let me tell you about the signature dishes! Mike recommended the Braised Beef Short Ribs Kua Curry and Crab Curry and he did not disappoint! The short ribs fell off the bones and the soft shell crab in the curry was so flavorful! They both paired so perfectly with rice. We were so impressed that we came back the following weekend and I'm still craving it as we speak. I'm excited to try everything else on the menu because I know I will not be disappointed. Do yourself a favor and come give Chorn Thong a try! read more

As soon as I walked in, I could feel the bustling energy from a fully packed restaurant. I came on a Saturday evening as a walk-in so I expected to wait a bit but I was fortunate to be seated pretty quickly. As I sat down, I could tell immediately that the owners had a great sense of aesthetic design through the selection of their tableware and utensils and overall design of the interior. The light fixtures, mural and even the bathroom had an intentional curated look and feel. And this design-sense carried through to both the presentation of the dishes as well as the ingredients and flavors. I ordered the crispy tofu and fried-shrimp donut for my starters and shrimp Pad Thai and Crab fried rice for my mains. There was a slight mixup with the Shrimp Pad Thai and I got crispy pork belly instead of the shrimp and holy smokes, it was a welcome mix-up because it was fantastic. The thing that stood out to me most was how springy and fresh tasting the noodles were. The quality of the noodles transported me back to Thailand. The crab fried rice which came shortly after the Pad Thai - WOW. It was the star of the show for me; it was so incredibly tasty. The rice was flavorful, the egg was prepared so fluffy and tender, and the crab meat cooked perfectly. Incredible dish. Throughout the night, my table was served by, who I would later find out, the owners Mike and his wife Nana. They were incredibly kind, accommodating and Mike was so friendly and had a great sense of humor. Toward the evening, I expressed to him how fresh and springy the noodles were and he explained how he picks up fresh noodles and fish every morning. Overpriced for what was received. -Ordered the Crispy Pork Prik Klue. Portion was like a lunch portion of 10 small pieces of fried pork and mostly fat and a lot of panko. Taste was ok, but for $28, a half of a small take-out container and a small rice was not worth the price. Could have had 2 chicken pad Thais from Ridge Thai. I understand the pressure restaurants are under with food and labor costs rising constantly, but I was surprised at the cost of a simple meal. Great little spot hidden on the end by the railroad next to Latour! We order 2 apps and 2 entrees Papaya salad and chicken dumplings they came out timely and were delicious next we had the pork belly and the chili lime whole fish both tasty My only complaint is I was expecting it to be spicy and it wasn't. A major knock against this place is the portion size -- it was anemic on protein (i.e., duck and beef). The uneven flavor quality, small portions, and relatively high pricing makes this a poor value proposition compared to other thai restaurants in the area. read more

I'm really conflicted in writing this review. While Chorn Thong truly surpassed my expectations as to the quality, quality and taste of the food that my guests and I had at this establishment, it was offset by truly terrible service. It took 1 1/2 hours to be served. Once served the food was delicious, at the right temperature and beautifully prepared. I feel for the owner of the restaurant because she expressed that she was having trouble hiring new staff but that's frankly her problem rather than those that chose to eat at her establishment. Simply put if you have the time to wait for an inordinate amount of time this may be the restaurant for you because everything else is 5 star. Unfortunately service is a 1 star. read more

I wanted to give 5 stars because the food is delicious, presented beautifully, the waitress was friendly/sweet, and the decor is lovely. However, similar to Ira o., I came here over the weekend for dinner and the service was notably poor. Two young ladies to rearrange the tables throughout the night for the nonstop incoming flow of patrons, be hostess, and wait staff isn't feasible. The kitchen was very behind as well. For the first half of the night, I kept looking around as there were patrons at every table but noticed only one table had a salad or starter to eat and everyone else was also left waiting. When the first of our orders finally came, the food was no doubt excellent but we had to remind our waitress of pending dishes multiple times. Everyone in our group was served at varying times. The delays and miscommunication in the kitchen/among the staff inevitably resulted in some of us finishing our starters and entrees before others even got their starters, and starters coming out after entrees. I understand they're a relatively new restaurant but they really need to staff up, especially on the weekends, or dedicate more tables to reservation-only vs walk-ins to better manage. If it wasn't for the quality of the food and BYOB, I think they'd be in trouble between the service and charging $$$ for smaller portions than most other Thai restaurants in the area. I'll give them another try but months from now when they've hopefully made improvements with service. read more

Incredible food! The best Thai I've had in this area. I highly recommend ordering the specials instead of the usual classic Pad Thai noodle type dishes. We didn't even try those yet. I'm sure they are fantastic but the specials were SO GOOD! The Ka Nom Jeeb starter was mindblowingly flavorful. Do not miss the Kamin Branzino. Decided to try this on Saturday evening and had no issues getting a table. The food was excellent - we had the crispy duck, steamed fish (branzino), and seafood tom yum. All were beautifully presented & tasted delicious! The service was inviting, friendly, and attentive. My ONLY issue and big pet peeve was with the billing/payment - no paper bill, handheld device, hovering wait staff, and the suggested tip was based on a tax included total. It's not the extra $1, just the principle, that irks me. That said, we will be back. read more

This is a fabulous new Thai restaurant in downtown Ridgewood. The menu has regional southernThai dishes you won't see on most Thai menus, along with a few of everyone's favorites. Our meal last night was delicious. We had the short rib curry dish and the shrimp and minced pork dish on the Signature menu and the traditional Pad Thai. All were excellent. The owner was very charming and the decor is just lovely. read more
