Four of us visited last night and noticed we were almost the only non-Asians in the place, that tells you it's authentic! We have never had a bad dish and this visit met all expectations. Thai flavors are always exceptional even if you are not a hot spice fan (like me). Three of us started with the Tom Kha Soup, perfect for cold night. Coconut broth with yummy veggies and just the right spices (Galangal is so unique). Shrimp or chicken added is very nice. I had the Pineapple Fried Rice which sounds boring for a main, but it's full of chicken, shrimp, and other flavorful goodies. We sometimes share as an app, but my favorite so must have one way or another. My son has the Duck Curry which was massive, very tender, almost no fat. He took on level 4 spice, not for me but I tried it, wow. The Masaman curry is always a big hit, daughter said it was great once again. Wife had Green Curry with Shrimp, "creamy with crisp vegetables, very good". Servers all seem to be family, and I believe most are. They all treat you with respect and the true care which adds to a nice experience. Ambiance is warm and nice, great spot for table talk. Prices are fair, and yes, they are still BYO! Reliable local Thai restaurant. Getting out of here is a bit challenging if you need to make the left turn on Kinderkamack, but you shouldn't have trouble finding parking in the back. Food-wise you'll find most of the typical Thai restaurant dishes. I like to start with their spring rolls, which are fried crispy and done very well here. I've tried a few of their entrees, and unlike other Thai restaurants where I typically gravitate towards the curries or basil sauce based dishes, those didn't have as much flavor as I expected. What I did find myself enjoying was their fried rice and pad thai noodle dishes, so those would be my recommendations if you're visiting the first time and not sure what to get. I'll add a nice plus is that takeout doesn't cause as much loss in food quality as other places. read more

Fifty percent of all Thai restaurants outside of Thailand are in the U.S. and Canada. Thai food is a complex blend of hot, spicy, salty, sour, sweet, smoky, herbaceous, and aromatic flavors that vary throughout different regions of Thailand. Pad Thai is actually a fairly recent addition to Thai cuisine and was developed by the prime minister in the '30s as a symbol of national identity. Located in Emerson, I have been dining at this establishment since their next-door neighbor is a Subi dealer on Kinderkamack Road for many years. Pimaan Thai is family-owned and serves authentic cuisine inside a house where I made a reservation for a party of 5 at 630pm for Saturday night because it's very busy and it fills up quickly. Upon arrival, there were a few parking spots available, as this BYOB restaurant is very popular with the locals and has been voted four-time winners for Best of Bergen. Upon entering a packed line at the host station, my partner, our friends and I were greeted by the staff and got a table right away at the front by the window. Their menu brings a unique blend of seasonings and quality food together with plenty of vegetarian options, and the level of spice could be accommodated to one's taste. As an appetizer, we decided on the Chicken Satay, Crispy Spring Roll, and Crabmeat Pancake. As a main meal, we opted for Grilled Pork, Brian Beef Steak, Beef with Ginger Sauce, Spicy Tofu, and Pad See Ew with Tofu. We even saved room for dessert and got Chocolate Soufflé with Vanilla Ice Cream and Fried Ice Cream. All our dishes were authentic, made with fresh ingredients and amazingly tasty as compared to other Thai places in Jersey. The vibe was casual and comfortable, where the staff were hardworking and nice; our server was Nong. The price was comparable to the area. We had a wonderful dining experience where we left our stomachs satisfied, which we can continue to recommend this place. read more

One of my favorite Thai restaurants in Bergen County! I've dined in and ordered take out multiple times within the past 3 years and I've never been disappointed. Food and service are consistently on point. Dishes are delicious with just the right amounts of flavor profiles: spicy, sweet, salty, sour. Make sure to call ahead and make reservations because it gets packed, especially during peak dinner time. It's BYOB and the ambiance is perfect for a date or family dinner. Pimaan has a lunch and dinner menu offering all of the traditional Thai dishes, from curries to noodles to soups to fried rice and more. My favorite dishes to order are: *Beef Satay - This appetizer comes with 3 beef skewers, peanut sauce, and a seasoned rice vinegar sauce. The meat is SO tender and well marinated, this is a must try! *Buddha Delight - If you're a tofu lover, I recommend ordering this. This app comes with pieces of fried tofu accompanied by a sweet chili sauce with crushed peanuts. *Pad Thai - A classic Thai noodle dish! Theirs is more on the sweeter side, but I didn't mind. *Pad See Ew - Another classic noodle dish! It's perfect for those who love wide rice noodles and soy sauce-based seasoning. *Thai Iced Tea - I ALWAYS order this... it's a must for me. They make this drink perfectly. I dined here (with a group of 3) for the first time, based upon positive reviews from family and from Yelp. While two of the dishes were very good (Jungle Curry and Musaman Curry), the Pra Ram chicken was disappointing. First off, the sauce was not nearly peanutty enough. Second, the dish normally comes served on a bed of broccoli, but since my wife can't eat broccoli, we asked if they could substitute with carrots. Every Thai restaurant I've ever been to has done so with a smile, but the waitress said no. She offered to remove the broccoli and add a side order of carrots, so we agreed. I was shocked later to discover that the small bowl of sliced carrots cost $9.27! Another annoyance was that we had to endure the constant screaming of babies in the back of the restaurant, almost as if they were running a daycare center. The last bad part was when they came with the payment device. They tried to charge me over $90 for our $70 tab. This may have been an honest mistake, but combined with all the other issues, 2 stars seems about right. read more

We decided to give Pimaan a try during a girls nice. There are plenty of seats despite it being relatively busy for a Thursday night. We started out with mussels and a seafood pancake. I also had a shrimp pad Thai. The mussels were a bit small, but a lot of flavor. The shrimp pad Thai was large and very good. Service was good, and it's BYOB. read more

Family's favorite Thai spot. Ordered takeout on a Saturday night. Order took about 30 minutes. When I got to the restaurant at 6 it was full and there was a line out the door for people either picking up orders or waiting for a table. Has to be a good place. I couldn't really appreciate my meal because it was so spicy. They need to make the spice levels on their menu more clear instead of just giving all spicy dishes a star. I originally wanted to order the jungle curry but was told it was really spicy because there's no coconut milk to cut the heat. I then considered the Masaman curry and was told that was even spicier! I wound up with the green curry which is considered medium spicy. I don't mind spicy but even this was burning my lips. It was spicier than my brother in law's level 2 spiciness of his pad Thai. It was much more enjoyable the next day when I mixed more vegetables and rice with it. I tried my mom's Bami Poo and that was pretty good. The edamame was a bit bland; we needed to add salt. The curry puffs were really dry. The only upside to having them was that they gave my mouth a break from the spiciness of the curry. read more

Call ahead for reservations! This is perhaps one of my favorite Thai restaurants over the last 20 years of living in the northern valley. We ordered pad see ew, house fried rice, and the jumbo shrimp. The other dishes were decent but for 26 dollars, the portion of the jumbo shrimp is absolutely ridiculous. I always wanted to try Pimaan Thai; it's walkable from my local Subaru Dealer. My first visit was for lunch. This is a fairly large restaurant decorated very tastefully - a nice atmosphere for dining. They have a lunch menu with reasonably-priced specials. I ordered Pad See-Ew (with chicken) which also comes with a salad. The food was very good and the portions were perfect. I would definitely come back and/or recommend. read more

Only con, I brought birthday cake for my friend and they said they would charge $15 minimum to cut the cake for us, I felt that was a ridiculous and we ended up not cutting the cake or ordering dessert. This is personally one of my favorite Thai places that is near me. I have tried their Pad Thai (mild spicy), Pineapple Fried Rice, and some of their appetizers (chicken curry puff and satay), and all of them were delicious. They might not always pick up the phone when I call for take-out because they seem to be always busy, but I think their food is worth the wait or going in person to eat. Price-wise, I think some of their entrees can be pricey, but I would still recommend this place. Be careful with the spice! Like many, we have been going to Pimaan for years (over 15 but who's counting). We always look forward to dining here with our family. Every time we go, the tables are always packed at dinner time, the dishes never disappoint as they are packed with so much flavor, your tastebuds do a dance. The staff are super attentive, never making you wait for long, always asking if you need anything, or how your dining experience is. Was here for the first time last night. I was planning to get what I normally get at Thai restaurants (the pad Thai) but the waiter raved about their fish and convinced me to get their red snapper. The fish was expensive not excellent. It was presented as a battered fish split in half held together by the tail floating in sauce with a side of a ball of white rice. A pretty uninspired presentation but the real test was the taste. The sauce was good but spicy (he promised it wouldn't be). The batter was terrible - tough and stale tasting. The fish inside was good but absolutely nothing to rave about. My friend had the pad Thai and it was good but she said that the portion was small. The waiter came over and asked about the fish and I told him. He joked that he wished he could give me a discount but he couldn't. I wasn't asking for one. I just wanted good food but what I got was mediocre and expensive. So 3 stars for the food and another star off for the recommendation and the joking at the end. My favourite go-to comfort food restaurant! I'm not a Thai food expert by any means so I don't know how authentic the food is but everything is amazingly delicious! I never feel bloated or greasy after, only full and happy. I really like the atmosphere for dine in. I've been there plenty of times for date nights, Valentine's Day, etc. we tried a decent amount of items on the menu (definitely not all yet), and we keep coming back to their Pimaan fried rice. It is so flavourful, light, fluffy, and not greasy like other fried rice I've had. Their red and green curries and pad see ew are also amazing. The customer service is also friendly, they recognize us every time we go. I really hope to try their mango sticky rice next time! The prices are also very fair in my opinion. Sure they may not be the cheapest Thai food but you can feed a group of 8 hungry people for $200 (we did). I usually order 2 apps, 2-3 entrees, Thai iced tea and maybe dessert and it usually ends up around $60-70 for 2 people before tip and we always have leftovers. That's honestly pretty good if you think about it! I'm not sure why the other reviews say the portions are small for takeout. I have ordered takeout plenty of times and the amount of food has always been consistent. Waiting for the food to be ready for pick up does take a while though - you could wait anywhere between 15-30 minutes so keep that in mind. This is the only reason why my review is not full stars. Previous to corona, I would say that the inside atmosphere is really nice if you make a reservation to sit near the window. For take our, I feel like the portions may be a bit smaller, however it is still pretty quick and tasty. The price is reasonable but a bit pricier than your typical thai. The beef and vegetables are okay with rice. Nothing special. The pad se eew and fried rice are very good. The noodles are well seasoned but it feels a bit oily. The curry comes in a plastic container inly halfway full. The pimang curry is sweet and has no vegetables which I didn't like but there was a decent amount of protein (chicken). 4.5*s I was selected as the designated Pimaan Thai takeout picker-upper for a large family get together and was interested to see what it was the place was like. First off, the restaurant offered ample parking, a perk I love about the suburbs! In addition, the restaurant was located within an old house, which, upon entering, I noticed they had transformed into a beautiful and elegant dining room. There were already several folks waiting for their pick-up orders and even a few tables in the midst of their meals at that 5 pm hour on a Wednesday. Throughout my wait, several staff members checked in with me to ensure that I was being assisted, which I appreciated. After about a 15-minute wait, I was handed my hefty sack of meals, which a quick glance confirmed were all accounted for. Upon my arrival at my family's house, we quickly unpacked all of dishes and sorted them accordingly. I had ordered my typical go-to option, Pad See-Ew with Steamed Tofu. Pimaan did this dish justice, as it was absolutely delish! The portion was generous as well. If I had to say anything remotely off about it, I would say that there was a tad too much salt, but it was really not that intense. I also sampled a few bites of the Chicken with Ginger Sauce, which consisted of oyster sauce, ginger, mushrooms, scallions, and vegetables (julienned carrots, peppers, etc.) and was also enjoyable. I should note that the menu clearly stated that all entrees were served with "white rice only - no substitutions", which I found mysterious, being that they actually did have a side of brown rice separately available for $3. Typically restaurants would just upcharge you for the substitution, so I was not sure why they were so adamant about the white rice. Regardless, the food at Pimaan Thai was excellent! Next time, I would love to actually eat in their homey dining room and try some of their other dishes of which I was less familiar. read more

Overall experience was a 4.5 but I rounded up as I was swayed by having had an amazing time with my girlfriends while I was in town for a short visit. Stand alone restaurant with a parking lot. Could see it getting very busy. We walked in and immediately I liked the ambiance. Clean and chic. But instead of opening up, the restaurant is just a long hall. Missed snapping a photo. The setting allows for groups, big families, friends, or totally appropriate for date night. They're BYOB by the way. I want to give them a FIVE based on their Beef Pad See Ew. It was deeeelicious and I'm salivating just thinking about it but you need to like wide noodles. The beef was good quality and plentiful. Papaya Salad was yummy and fresh but not sure if I would order it again. Good to try but wouldn't be one of my regular dishes. Calamari was yummy as I love anything fried. Crabmeat Fried Rice was also exceptional. The food was generally very good. Although the green curry sauce was a little disappointing. I didn't care to pour it onto my fried rice like I usually do. We have been coming to this restaurant for "years" and were ALWAYS happily welcomed but today my wife and I came out without our usual group of eight and "what a disgrace"!!!!!! We entered the restaurant from the upper doorway and were left standing there for nearly five minutes and looked at extremely rude!!!!!! There were only one table with three people at it and fifteen open tables. One woman asked us if we were taking out and then asked if we called for a reservation which we stated no and that we've been coming here for years and never needed a reservation at this time of the day.
