I absolutely love this hole in the wall Thai takeout restaurant. It's delicious. They really are innovative, but have all the classic dishes. Everything's super fresh for me to order. I love that they use fresh cut noodles and the owners are really nice. It's more of a takeout place in a dine in place but still really really good.

Thai Chef Jr. 11 McKinley Ave. Dumont, NJ 07628 Gyoza Beef Pad Thai This locally owned business just opened in October 2025 and they are off to a fantastic start. Gyoza: The pork dumplings are meaty and tender. The dipping sauce enhances the flavor. Beef Pad Thai: This stir-fried noodles combined with a protein and veggies is probably one of the best I ever explored. The sauce is so sweet and savory you will not need to supplement any additional condiments. The inside of the restaurant is small; there is limited seating. I recommend purchasing your order to go. Everything is made to order to ensure that your meal will be served fresh and piping hot. It is also suggested to call ahead to place your order. I am always satisfied each time I purchase take out and I'm definitely planning to return. #thaichefjr #beefpadthai #gyoza #porkdumplings #dumontnj #newbusiness #thaicuisine

I was craving some Pad Thai so we decided to try the newly opened Thai Chef Jr for a recent Saturday lunch. I called in an order for Chicken Pad Thai and Ginger Beef and decided to go with a spice level of 0 to see what the flavors were like without any heat, but appreciated being told about the customizable option ranging from level 1 to 5. Pick up would be ready in 25-30 minutes, so the wait was on the longer side but totally worth it for freshly cooked dishes. However, the experience quickly soured upon trying the food. Ginger Beef had ginger flavor but on the saltier side for our taste. Pad Thai was very disappointing not due to the saltiness, although that didn't do it any favors, but these weird burnt flakes that were throughout the noodle dish. I took a photo of the biggest piece I saw -- whether it was burnt food or pieces of the pan that was used, it is definitely a health hazard and not something that should have been served to paying customers. Buyer beware.

Absolutely delicious new Thai takeout place in Dumont. We tried their Thai Chef Dumplings, which are a must try. So much more flavor than any other Thai dumpling that I have tried. Also went for their Crispy Pork Belly over rice, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sauce on the side is great for either dipping or pouring over the pork and rice. The Roast Pork over rice was nice and moist with yummy sauce over the rice as well. I can't wait to go back and their their noodle and curry dishes. They were so nice, friendly, and took their time with us.

Finally found a Thai spot that doesn't hold back on flavor! The balance of sweet, salty, sour and heat in the Massaman Curry was perfect! We loved how it had sweet potato in the curry to add just the right amount of sweetness to balance out the spice. The Ribeye Pad See Ew had that perfect 'wok hei' (charred) flavor, and the Beef Pad Kra Pao was a standout, topped with a perfectly fried egg with crispy edges and a runny yolk! The dumplings & gyoza were both fresh and don't have that "got lost in the back of the freezer" taste. You can tell these dishes haven't been rushed or modified, they taste like they've been handed down through a lineage of incredible cooks. It feels like you're being invited into a family kitchen to taste a recipe that has been polished to perfection over the years! We'll definitely be back!

My new Thai place. Pas Thai and Pad Seew is flavorful and good portions. And the fried sticky mango roll is fire. Well done and keep it up.

Every dish hit the table hot and quickly without feeling rushed, which I always appreciate. Great casual lunch or dinner spot! Catch up with friends or enjoy a lowkey dinner without feeling rushed or overly formal Also love that this spot is BYOB. I paired my meal with a Thai iced tea -- flavorful and refreshing, just not overly sweet (which some people might actually prefer). Appetizers: The curry puffs were delicious -- flaky, flavorful, but I definitely wished there were more than three. Chicken satay was well executed, but the honey ribs completely stole the spotlight. Super tender, flavorful, and easily the must-order on the starter list. Entrees: We ordered the deep fried filet snapper (with white rice) and the chicken Khao Soi. The Khao Soi was the standout of the night -- perfectly cooked noodles and a rich, coconut curry broth that was easily 10/10. The snapper was fried beautifully, and the mixed vegetables tasted incredibly fresh and bright -- almost ceviche-like in flavor. Portions were satisfying enough that I had zero room for dessert, but this is absolutely a spot I'd come back to explore more of the menu.

Four of us visited last night and noticed we were almost the only non-Asians in the place, that tells you it's authentic! We have never had a bad dish and this visit met all expectations. Thai flavors are always exceptional even if you are not a hot spice fan (like me). Three of us started with the Tom Kha Soup, perfect for cold night. Coconut broth with yummy veggies and just the right spices (Galangal is so unique). Shrimp or chicken added is very nice. I had the Pineapple Fried Rice which sounds boring for a main, but it's full of chicken, shrimp, and other flavorful goodies. We sometimes share as an app, but my favorite so must have one way or another. My son has the Duck Curry which was massive, very tender, almost no fat. He took on level 4 spice, not for me but I tried it, wow. The Masaman curry is always a big hit, daughter said it was great once again. Wife had Green Curry with Shrimp, "creamy with crisp vegetables, very good". Servers all seem to be family, and I believe most are. They all treat you with respect and the true care which adds to a nice experience. Ambiance is warm and nice, great spot for table talk. Prices are fair, and yes, they are still BYO! Keep up the great work!!

Food-wise you'll find most of the typical Thai restaurant dishes. I like to start with their spring rolls, which are fried crispy and done very well here. I've tried a few of their entrees, and unlike other Thai restaurants where I typically gravitate towards the curries or basil sauce based dishes, those didn't have as much flavor as I expected. What I did find myself enjoying was their fried rice and pad thai noodle dishes, so those would be my recommendations if you're visiting the first time and not sure what to get. I'll add a nice plus is that takeout doesn't cause as much loss in food quality as other places.

Water they serve is straight out of tap and I doubt it's even filtered as it had smell and taste that didn't have any hint of filtration. But when it comes to Thai food, there's just two, and Khao Thai is one of them. Inside, the space is fairly large but it's kept relatively quiet and intimate with lots of two-tops. Our crispy calamari appetizer was a bit of a letdown. While hot and crispy, they seemed to have been breaded and fried as clumps. Even the accompanying sweet chili sauce couldn't mask that tough, rubbery texture. Entrees fared just a little better. My pad see ew was a little bland but perked up with some chili sauce dribbled over the plate by the spoonful. I chose beef as my protein and while there weren't a ton of beef pieces, the few I had were wonderfully tender. Service was friendly and lovely. Our server (who I also assume is the owner) welcomed us warmly and was quick to check on us. I was endeared by the owner's young daughter who came by to help and made sure all our water glasses stayed filled. I know we're riding the giant inflation wave, but the serving size felt a little paltry for the prices. Everything was flavorful and well prepared as usual. We also had a bottle of Singha beer and Thai green iced tea -- both great, and the imported Thai beer here is still very reasonably priced at $5.95. The restaurant was busy during our visit, which is usually a good sign. A couple things caught us off guard this time. We asked for shrimp crackers to snack on before the food arrived -- something they used to give complimentary -- and later noticed a $5 charge for them on the bill. There was also a 3% credit card fee added with no mention of it beforehand. If costs are rising and adjustments are needed, that's understandable. Just be transparent about it so customers aren't surprised when the bill arrives. The food itself was still very good, but the unexpected charges took a little shine off the experience this time.
