We haven't been here for only God knows how long - in fact, my Yelp review of the Green Papaya in River Edge was 12 years ago (!!!) - but I remembered having fond memories of the place. So my husband (who btw was my boyfriend in my 2013 Yelp review) treated me to dinner at the Green Papaya tonight after work. We started with homemade crispy tofu and veggie spring rolls. Then for entrees, we ended up getting Malaysian Curry dishes. I wanted a soup - so I went with the noodle soup dinner. The coconut curry broth was delicious! My husband went with the curry entre (over rice with a small salad on the side). He said it was very good. The host was great; she was so friendly and welcoming. The food, hospitality, and overall vibe are what bring in the regular customers. We were surrounded by regular customers, as we kept hearing people at other tables rave about the place or say "good to see you" to staff there. It feels very cheery there. Nothing from my original Yelp review has really changed - except now I'm giving it a 5 stars! The Green Papaya is one wonderful Thai-fusion eatery!

Beef pad see ew

Still love this place immensely - the food is always delicious & the portion size for what they charge is VERY fair. I try to come here anytime I make it to NJ. I was able to make it back last month, it's been a while (a little over a year) & Felicia remembered us! This is a small business I will gladly support.

Takeout is not good. We ordered: -Crispy tofu - a little dry. I also didn't care for the sauce it came with. It was too sweet -Pad Thai - looked different from when we dined in. It was lighter in color for takeout. Also, the noodles were in pieces -Pad Kee Mao - this was pretty good. It wasn't overly spicy and the noodles held up -Pad See Ew - this was probably the worst pad see ew I've ever tasted. It was WAY too salty and sweet to the point where my mouth felt numb after eating it. I would highly recommend dining in, which stinks because I love getting takeout. But this just isn't one of the places to do it at.

Malaysian Curry Dinner

Really enjoyed the variety of Thai and Malaysian Dishes here. I was initially looking for a Thai restaurant but I'm so glad I stumbled upon this restaurant. I ended up trying their Malaysian curry dish, the portion was hearty and came with a side salad dressed in a peanut sauce. The curry was very flavorful but I thought the chicken itself didn't take up as much of the flavor. With a little added salt, the dish came to life and I really liked it. I would definitely order from here again and try some of their other dishes. It's not as common to find Malaysian food in this area and I think they do a pretty good job!

Food (4.6) Service (4.7) Ambiance (4.3)…read more This is still one of our regulars and it's been some time since we reviewed so time for more good words. Four of us visited last night and noticed we were almost the only non-Asians in the place, that tells you it's authentic! We have never had a bad dish and this visit met all expectations. Thai flavors are always exceptional even if you are not a hot spice fan (like me). Three of us started with the Tom Kha Soup, perfect for cold night. Coconut broth with yummy veggies and just the right spices (Galangal is so unique). Shrimp or chicken added is very nice. I had the Pineapple Fried Rice which sounds boring for a main, but it's full of chicken, shrimp, and other flavorful goodies. We sometimes share as an app, but my favorite so must have one way or another. My son has the Duck Curry which was massive, very tender, almost no fat. He took on level 4 spice, not for me but I tried it, wow. The Masaman curry is always a big hit, daughter said it was great once again. Wife had Green Curry with Shrimp, "creamy with crisp vegetables, very good". Servers all seem to be family, and I believe most are. They all treat you with respect and the true care which adds to a nice experience. Ambiance is warm and nice, great spot for table talk. Prices are fair, and yes, they are still BYO! Keep up the great work!!

Food-wise you'll find most of the typical Thai restaurant dishes. I like to start with their spring rolls, which are fried crispy and done very well here. I've tried a few of their entrees, and unlike other Thai restaurants where I typically gravitate towards the curries or basil sauce based dishes, those didn't have as much flavor as I expected. What I did find myself enjoying was their fried rice and pad thai noodle dishes, so those would be my recommendations if you're visiting the first time and not sure what to get. I'll add a nice plus is that takeout doesn't cause as much loss in food quality as other places.

Every dish hit the table hot and quickly without feeling rushed, which I always appreciate. Great casual lunch or dinner spot! Catch up with friends or enjoy a lowkey dinner without feeling rushed or overly formal Also love that this spot is BYOB. I paired my meal with a Thai iced tea -- flavorful and refreshing, just not overly sweet (which some people might actually prefer). Appetizers: The curry puffs were delicious -- flaky, flavorful, but I definitely wished there were more than three. Chicken satay was well executed, but the honey ribs completely stole the spotlight. Super tender, flavorful, and easily the must-order on the starter list. Entrees: We ordered the deep fried filet snapper (with white rice) and the chicken Khao Soi. The Khao Soi was the standout of the night -- perfectly cooked noodles and a rich, coconut curry broth that was easily 10/10. The snapper was fried beautifully, and the mixed vegetables tasted incredibly fresh and bright -- almost ceviche-like in flavor. Portions were satisfying enough that I had zero room for dessert, but this is absolutely a spot I'd come back to explore more of the menu.

RUN DON'T WALK TO THIS SPOT, I'M SO SERIOUS…read more This is the best, most authentic Thai food I've eaten since my vacation to Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui) with my husband in 2024. I truly can't even name a favorite off the menu because everything I've tried here is elite lol Pad Thai, Massamon curry, pineapple fried rice, tom yum soup. Omg literally just get ANYTHING on the menu and it's gonna be a BANGER. Fast, efficient, and kind staff too. HIGHLY recommend!

Not so good - curry puffs were tasteless, fried calamari were meh. Not good - duck salad had dry overcooked duck, green curry with beef was barely edible and had a funky sidekick flavor reminiscent of stale bucket water after the floors were mopped with beef that they threw in there, which was dry and super chewy. Water they serve is straight out of tap and I doubt it's even filtered as it had smell and taste that didn't have any hint of filtration. And a 20% automatic gratuity added to your bill for a group of 5 plus. Had to ask 1 waiter for a check 3 times. Got it finally after asking another waiter. First and last time for me in this establishment. Those posting 5 star reviews probably never had good Thai food. This place doesn't hold a candle to restaurants like Pimaan Thai or Wyckoff Thai. Lots of room here for improvement.

Review is based on delivery on a very cold January night, so can't comment on the restaurant or it's service. We have an assortments of appetizers, the eggrolls, were pretty standardish, the chive pancake was less than good and shumai was hard, but the curry puffs were the bomb! The star of the meal was by far the red curry, I usually add to my comments not to americanize it (as in reduce the heat) but I didn't this time, and the level of heat and flavor was spot on! Withouth this dish my rating would have been a 4, as 4.5 is not an option.
