This is one of the best little burrito joints in Northern California hands down. The family that runs this place is down to earth and knows how to put together a simple yet perfect meal. Yesterday, it was beautiful, sunny and perfect. Today it was beautiful, sunny and windy as all get-out! We were walking around downtown and us girls decided that we were famished. We left downtown and we had seen the yellow sign for Amiga's a couple of times and decided to check it out. We walked in around 3pm and the place was empty. However we were greeted warmly and I was impressed that the server/cook was able to take multiple orders without writing anything down, while she was cooking orders. Wow, mad skills! I opted for the Large Cheese, bean and rice burrito with lettuce, salsa and sour cream. It was very filling but the tortilla didn't really stay together, too much filling not enough tortilla. But, I've got mad skills too. I used my fork. Ha, ha. I also had a glass of Rice Milk Horchata. I didn't realize that it wasn't authentic Horchata until after it was being poured and I saw the sign that said "Rice Milk." But, it was tasty and probably much better for me than the other version. This place is great because everything is a lot healthier than your typical burrito joint! Still authintic though! I got to enjoy a Chicken taco salad which was filled with lettuce, hot jalapeno salsa, and tomatoe salsa, black olives, shredded cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips! I ate the entire plate!!! Let's see dad ate a small chicken quesadilla, mom ate a large vegi burrito (cheese, bean and rice), Uncle ate the combo plate #1 which had a small burrito, taco and enchilada and Auntie had a large chicken, rice and cheese burrito! Great service and I must mention that we brought in the crowd because there was nobody inside when we walked in, but about 3 or 4 other parties came in after us, only 2 groups stayed to eat as we did! read more

One word. Authentic; well, as authentic as you can get in Eureka at a taco shop that serves vegan and vegetarian burritos. This taco stand might as well be in San Diego or any other border town. Meats available are reflective of the local Humboldt palette. Nevertheless, the seasoned meats, beans, rice, and salsas are authentic. Will definitely visit more often. I ordered the beef burrito with habanero chile salsa. Spicy!!! Portions are great, salsas were tasty, there is a mild (pickled) jalapeño based sauce, and a mashed (fresh) habanero salsa. Both are good, habanero pulled on my heart strings. Dined in, and overheard a dozen or so patrons making their specific orders. Many folks ask for vegan or vegetarian burritos. Amazing that this taco stand serves up the tacos and burritos any way you like it. Beer! Cerveza! They have beer on tap. Rice was hard, beans were yuck and... well... it's not Mexican food. Another reviewer said this place is geared toward "white people". The comment strikes me as problematic because so many white people (this is Ca!) make excellent Mexican cuisine. I think this is just plain, unsavory, food masquerading as "ethnic" cuisine. I really wanted to like it because the people here seem really awesome, it's walkable from my house, the produce looks pretty good, and the joint is a fine place to sit and eat. I've had a mixture of weird experiences at Amiga's. Whether I'm arguing with yuppies over parking or getting the cold shoulder from uncooperative staff (come on, it was 9:45 p.m., you're open till 10! Where's my damned burrito?) something dumb always seems to happen to me at Amiga's. The youthful staff, "refined shabby" decor and vegetarian options are what bring the crowds in, and I guess that's why I found myself eating here so much when I was younger. But I've since come to a realization that I don't really like Amiga's. The restaurant flops on the most essential of all dishes for a Mexican restaurant: rice and beans. At Amiga's I'm often underwhelmed by bland beans and equally bland rice. I like my beans and rice flavorful, and if that means throwing a pound of lard in the mix along with some jalapenos and chili powder, so be it! read more

Everything in here is made fresh! No instant anything. If that's not good enough I dunno what else is. Friendly Staff, the owner is often there, great portions. Fresh good food, what else can you ask for? Im not a fan of generic, chains so. I really appreciate the quality of food, and like that I am able to help support a LOCAL business owner. Other than the fact that Amiga's is, as she said, not actually a "Mexican" restaurant per se, Gina c. has no idea what she's talking about. I have eaten at Amiga's at least 50 times over the past 10 years and I have never once seen a burrito microwaved. Amiga's makes a "hippie burrito" geared toward (am I even allowed to say this?) white people (there, I said it!), so don't go if you're expecting menudo on the menu, a huge jar of horchata on the counter or mariachi music. But if what you are looking for is a hot, fresh and delicious burrito prepared right in front of you and made to order, then Amiga's is your place. Every time I eat there I notice that the staff have a wonderful rapport with the throngs of noon-time return customers, indicating that this is a reputable and well-loved lunch destination in downtown Eureka. I am a regular here, I eat here a few times a week at lunch. I like Amiga's because I can get whole wheat tortillas and the produce is fresh and they use brown rice. Good hearty food for people who actually care about the food they eat and their health. Lots of flavor and very spicy salsas. The Death Paste is great but it very potent. I had heard good things about this place and I love breakfast burritos so I had to try it out. After ordering, they grabbed two pre-made (who knows when) wrapped burritos and popped them into a microwave. I felt like I was ordering food at a gas station! It didn't taste much better than your average $2 gas station burrito either, and had the same cold spots you would expect from a microwave. I won't be going back. If making a burrito fresh to order is more than you can do, its time to find a new business. Lazyness will kill what could've been a decent place to eat. Avoid, it isn't worth stopping. read more

m'kay i was going to give them 4 stars because i try to reserve 5 for only the bestest of the bestest but this place holds a special spot in my heart. Oh that and Bobbi rawks!! I've been coming to Amiga's for nearly 20 years. I respected and enjoyed the last owner but really like how George has livened up the place with cacti/succulents on each table, wonderfully bright colors, local art and consistently good food. Sitting here reading the reviews I wonder if some people just enjoy a good troll as I have never seen the microwave used to prepare the food. I'm also craving my regular rice, chicken and cheese burrito, served with hot sauce so it has that lovely spicy "bite" to it. Probably I'll have to go soon--burrito addiction is brutal!
