Tacos are beautifully plated with extra-mile garnish including grilled onions, grilled jalapeno/serrano, radish and lime. Despite that, and even with plenty of salsa, the flavor was just not there. Figured I'd better try the chicken too as that's the namesake, but aside from texture, everything tasted pretty much the same.

Delicious Homemade Mexican Food--The Perfect Post-Hike Meal!…read more We came here for dinner after a long day of hiking in the redwoods and were so glad we did, as the food was incredibly tasty and satisfying. Oaxaca Grill is a wonderful, family-run restaurant in downtown Eureka, operated by the parents, Carmen and Tony, and their daughter, Yuri. Carmen is the main chef, and you can truly taste the care she puts into making amazing homemade Mexican food. The ambiance is casual and cozy. We were traveling as two families and easily found tables on a Tuesday evening for an early dinner. The main dishes completely hit the spot: * Garlicky Soft Prawn Tacos: My wife ordered these, which were served with sautéed onions, fresh garlic, and the most amazing, flavorful mango salsa on the side. * Spicy Oaxaca Chicken Mole: I got this special dish, which featured a tender chicken breast topped with authentic, spicy Oaxacan mole. This mole is savory, rich, and incredibly flavorful, made from thirty imported Oaxacan ingredients. It came served with yummy rice and beans. * Prawn Soft Tacos: We also ordered these, and they were fantastic, paired with a crisp jicama coleslaw. * Kids' Dishes: Our children ordered from the children's plate options. My son got the chicken enchiladas, which came with fries and beans, and he absolutely loved it. My daughter had the cheese and bean burrito, which she really enjoyed as well. * Desserts: To wrap up the meal, we tried the coconut flan and the crème brûlée. Both were a sweet end to the night, and the crème brûlée in particular was absolutely amazing. Overall, it was a fantastic, comforting dining experience with wonderful hospitality. If you are in downtown Eureka, this family-run spot is highly recommended!

Humboldt has mostly mediocre or worse Mexican food, so I suppose those who come here have low standards and/or do not know good Mexican food. I agree with some other reviewers that this place has been weirdly overrated.

The corn masa cake base was delicious, and it was not over fried. The ground beef was seasoned very well, the veggies gave it a nice pop of freshness. The cheese was great, and I especially loved the sauce. The sauce just brought it all together. There was a little pile of jalapeño, onion, and carrot in the middle. I didn't touch the jalapeño. I tried the carrot and the onion, but they were too spicy for me. Not a big deal. It was a nice lite lunch, and with soda, tax and tip, the price was very reasonable. I definitely want to come back and try more items off of this menu. Thank you.

A Chorizo Revelation at Patino's: My First Food Truck Adventure…read more You ever have one of those hunger pangs that sneak up on you like a surprise attack? That was me, driving home, stomach making questionable noises, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw it--Patino's Mexican Food. A little food truck, parked like a hidden gem, just waiting to be discovered. Now, here's the thing: I had never stopped at a food truck before. Not once. But something about this one--maybe it was fate, maybe it was hunger-induced bravery--made me pull over. "Alright, let's do this." I walked up, scanned the menu, and like any self-respecting fan of Mexican food, I zeroed in on my personal favorite: chorizo street tacos. Three of them. Because one? Not enough. Two? A warm-up. Three? Now we're talking. They handed me a pager, and within 10 minutes--before I could even contemplate my life choices--I had my hands on a cup of homemade horchata (which, let's be honest, is like the nectar of the gods) and my three glorious tacos. Now, I had to document this moment properly...
