We LOVED this place! We are visiting from out of town (Gaithersburg, MD) and have been eating out for the past 4 days... the folks at this place are so nice. They gave us plates, utensils, extra salsa and chips free of charge, allowing us to eat comfortably in our hotel room. They were exceptionally friendly and kind. La Barca is a staple in our home. Anytime we don't want to cook, La Barca provides exactly what we are looking for In partial to the two taco plate (with rice and beans) and I recently tried their strawberry horchata and I'm a HUGE fan. This is the best Mexican food in Arcata! None of that weird fake stuff here. I always stop by when I come to town. The dining room is small, but they always have enough free tables. The staff is very prompt and polite, and we always have a great time. I've tried about 50% of the menu and never had a bad meal. It's always great. Disappointed: used to be a regular... I'll start off by saying I'm not usually one to complain online -- I prefer to do so in person. However I almost always order to-go meaning by the time I get into my food, I am already home. I've been ordering the same thing (super veggie burrito ) since around 2018, and I've found it to be the best vegetarian burrito around. Post-pandemic I'd noticed some inconsistencies in filling amount, etc. and while it was irritating, I just tapered off my consumption for a while. The last few times I went it was *fantastic* -- a nice big burrito that I could justify spending their newer raised prices on. Today was by far the worst experience I've ever had, and I cannot continue to buy their burritos or recommend them to my vegetarian friends. I called in our order, and they said it would be ready in 15. Great! We live about 7 minutes away, so we were there before the food was ready; no big deal at all! I don't mind waiting. Burrito (and chimichanga for the husband) acquired and we were back at the house, digging into our food less than 10 minutes later. Immediately upon picking up my burrito I was complaining, "look at this thing" to my partner. I mean it maybe was the most deflated burrito I have ever had in my life. It sagged into my hand; had absolutely no integrity to it. Really annoying, but "okay," I thought, "I'll just stop going for a bit again." But then I took a bite, and the burrito was... not warm. Like it was barely over room temperature. To me, that's kinda the last straw. I could understand losing some heat within 10 minutes, but this was different. Popped it in the microwave and got it somewhat warm and then went to eat it -- the burrito fell apart. Like I can wrap a better burrito than that and it doesn't cost nearly as much. I'm really disappointed to say the least and I just can't waste anymore of my money there (not in this economy!). According to my guy, the chimichanga was fantastic though! He almost never has any problems to maybe if you're a meat eater, you're in the clear! read more

Was in town for work looking for a great taqueria and stumbled upon this place. It happened to be a Tuesday and they were selling street tacos for $1.50. Chips and salsa were brought to the table within seconds of me sitting down! Great service, I decided to order a few street tacos to see if I was a fan of the meat they were serving, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavor of the carnitas street taco. The green sauce was not so great, the pico was OK, the hot sauce they had on the table were definitely not used that often. I ended up ordering a large side of guacamole for five dollars and a total of six street tacos for $1.50 each. The street tacos were amazing. The guacamole was nothing to talk about. Overall, the street tacos and chips were my favorite part of the meal along with the family service. Excellent restaurant highly recommend on a Tuesday. read more

Loved the food. I am Mexican and the food was up to par. The chile relleno sauce was different from what I'm used to but so delicious. My husband had tacos de lengua, carnitas, birria, and al pastor. We almost didn't find this place since the physical store was closed when we pulled up. We couldn't figure out why since it was only 5:30. My husband saw the truck in the parking lot across the street and we wondered if it was the same company, and luckily it was. We ordered 5 veggie wet burritos, a super burrito, and an order of veggie nachos. The nachos were really good. It might have been nice to have a little more toppings on them, but good nonetheless. Authentic Mexican food in Humboldt? Look no further because you're at the right place when you eat here. This is the only place I will go to for quesabirrias. The service is top tier just like the food. Jason, the manager is always so hospitable to everyone and despite it being crazy busy in there at times, he never fails to make sure our table is doing good, our waters filled, and always expresses his gratitude towards every customer who steps foot into the restaurant. It is a rainy night, we score a parking space in front and enter a very clean and welcoming restaurant. Chips to the table, drink order taken we start the process of menu discovery. We decide to share an order of chicken taquitos, I order carnitas and my wife the shrimp ceviche tostada. Everything is delightful and full of flavor. We learn that grandma is in back cooking. This is my favorite place to eat whenever I'm craving Mexican food in Arcata. It's away from the hustle and bustle of the plaza, and the food tastes similar to the food I can get back home in Central California. The calm atmosphere and great flavors keep bringing me back again and again. Everything I've had on the menu has been great - burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tortas...you name it. I've introduced my family and partner to Taqueria La Barca and they all love it. You can also find La Barca's taco truck behind the bars on the plaza during late nights if you can't catch them during the day (or are feeling a little hungry post-bar). The servers here have always been friendly and helpful and they keep the restaurant very clean. I highly recommend Taqueria La Barca to anyone looking for good Mexican food in Arcata. We luckily found taqueria la Barca in the beginning of our trip so we were able to enjoy their delicious food twice. We would have went for a third time but unfortunately they were closed Sunday. The service was 10/10 as well. All the staff we interacted with were pleasant, helpful, and friendly. The atmosphere was authentic with good music and very clean and inviting. I ordered a California burrito both nights we went as it was so tasty I didn't want to miss the chance to taste it again. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp cocktail and carne Asada plate one night and the other night he ordered carne Asada and Al pastor tacos.. he raved about all of it. The food tasted authentic and was well seasoned/flavored. The portion sizes were also large so you really get the best bang for your buck here. We are from Southern California so initially I was worried/hesitant to try Mexican food outside of my comfort zone but they did not disappoint. They also serve complimentary chips and salsa which is always nice. As most of us know, salsa is the hallmark of any good Mexican shop, and there salsa did not disappoint. I particularly enjoyed there green salsa, it tasted fresh and was very flavorful, the perfect addition to my burrito. I really cannot say enough positive things about this place. Upon on entering we were greeted by the most pleasant, nice girl. It was our first time here and were excited to finally check this place out after hearing such great things about it. The chips and salsa to start with was too exceptional. The chips tasted like they were made the same day and the pico tasted so good, the tomatoes used were perfectly ripe, amazing! Then, we got our entrees. My boyfriend got the super burrito, wet, and I got the flautas. It all tasted so damn good, the carnitas was amazing and not dry, and the carne asada was cooked perfectly and tasty! I have to mention how amazing the service was once again because I've never been somewhere with service like this (and I'm a waitress). Also, I couldnt get the over their philodendron plant that they had stretched over the whole dining area, it looked so pretty! They deserve 6 stars. read more
