Amelia Gene's offers a striking dining environment. The decor is refined and pleasant, featuring high open ceilings, artful lighting, and beautiful touches like the Villeroy & Boch decorative dishes. THE FOOD & WINE At $65 for a 5-course Chef's Tasting Menu and $35 for the wine pairing, it is a good value. We started with a tasty carrot coriander amuse-bouche from Chef Nate, followed by: * Georges Banks Scallops: Served with tomato gelatin, cured kiwi, and crema. Paired well with a crisp New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. * Sweet Potato Tamale: Topped with spiced mayo, avocado crema, and charred cabbage. The spicy jalapeños and radishes added a bright kick that paired nicely with a blush-colored, floral Pinot Grigio. * Elysian Fields Lamb Cubano: A rich, complex dish featuring lamb shoulder and a fantastic touch of lamb heart (marinated for a week in adobo). Fresh arugula and pickles offset the richness, and the toasted focaccia was an amazing match. Paired with a medium-bodied Grenache that cut through the rich flavors. * Acadian Redfish: Charcoal-grilled with a creamy crawfish hollandaise and light-bodied potato crisps. This is the chef's elevated take on his mother's fish and chips, and it had a nice balance of oil and salt. * Dessert: Finished with a strawberry ice cream terrine and a decadent six-layer carrot cake that was moist, intense, and packed with pistachio crème. * We had a robust 2015 St. Emilion with a medium/heavy body, nice tannins, and age! THE SERVICE * The service was highly attentive, friendly, and earns a solid 4 stars. Sam, the sommelier, was knowledgeable and shared his insights on the pairings (he noted the 3rd and 4th courses were his personal favorites). Special thanks to Daisy for helping us with our first visit, walking us through the tasting courses, and recommending local places. * Because the restaurant ambitiously rotates its tasting menu every 2-3 weeks, it is harder for the staff to keep on top of the tasting menu details (compared to their regular menu items). OVERALL Overall, a fantastic 4-star experience. The culinary creativity and the beautiful dining room make it highly recommended!

Great food, wonderful service and lovely ambiance. Went there for date night will definitely go back again. Carrot cake was excellent !

Exceptional food and drinks. The fish dishes are perfectly cooked and great portions, we loved the Bee's Knees cocktail as well. The servers were really nice, provided great recommendations. My only constructive feedback is that we didn't receive a starter we asked for. Turns out we didn't need it, but still... was an attention to detail missed. Bathrooms are immaculate, space is clean and well appointed. Truly a great and unique menu, we will go again.

Very pretty restaurant. Excellent service. Quite expensive. We started with ravioli, prawns, burata, asparagus, biscuits, steak tartar, and a 5 cheese sampler plate. The biscuits were really delicious. The steak tartar was very disappointing. I'm sure the steak was good quality but it was so overwhelmed by the spice they used (curry, I think) that you just couldn't taste any steak at all. Everything else was fine but just nothing great. Our entrees were filet mignon and short ribs. Both were very good. Dessert was carrot cake. I didn't love it. Had a ton of crunchy stuff on it that I didn't like. We also had 6 cocktails. All together, it was $675 before a $125 tip for 5 people. Not terrible restaurant by any means, it's also nowhere near worth $160 pp for dinner. Don't see myself going back here.

Have you heard the story of The Shed at Dulwich? It was a faux restaurant that was hyped on social media despite not having a real presence. When pressed, it opened for a few diners, serving frozen meals nicely plated, passing the off as homemade and giving them bougie names at an elevated price point. I am waiting for Amelia Gene to let us in on the prank that they are the second iteration of The Shed. Ambiance and service were good, but the food and price point were outrageous. Overall, food was barely mediocre. Not one entree was inspired or merited more than 4/10 stars. Potato fondue was mashed potatoes, the biscuits were dense and flavorless, but the truly comical moment of the evening was when they brought my 6'6 husband's ravioli to him. $18 for one ravioli that (he said) was *not even good*. I am shocked at the positive reviews and overall rating Amelia Gene's has received. Maybe we hit it on a very off night? Maybe we don't get "it"? Either way it's not for us. On the bright side, I've had weeks of making fun of my husband's face at the sight of the one ravioli, and that's gotta be worth something.

Everything was amazing! Food is delicious and service is great! We tried the biscuits, octopus, seabass and monkfish.

AG's feels like a night out in Italy. I love that it's dimly lit and has intimate settings. Our service was superb and the food was great. The homemade biscuits & honey butter were our favorite!! Mouthwatering buttery goodness! I would come back just for those. The chef sent us a turnip soup that was phenomenal. I hope it gets added to the menu. The prawn appetizer was delicious. Prepared just right! I didn't care for the egg noodles that came with the lamb pasta, though the accompanying lamb was nice. My friend enjoyed her rigatoni, but no protein is served with that dish. Overall, we had a great experience and we will return!

Date Night!! I selected Amelia Genes! We had a great time laughing and talking!! Lovely place with beautiful decor and a great idea to leave some of the original steel company's machinery! The drinks and food were delicious and plated well! However, the Rigatoni | Seasoned Ricotta | Lobster Sauce was not tasty, and I would not order it again. But the Prime Streak Tartare and Prime Filet Mignon were fantastic. We will return. 8/10

Lovely evening. Staff are very attentive and friendly. We had a special tasting menu that was stunning. Wine pairings were very good. Absolutely a great evening in a beautiful venue.

Ambiance was my favorite part about the restaurant. Wait staff was great- food was pretty good, but overall isnt my favorite. One of the reasons that i gave it 4 stars was there was a mans curly hair on my plate/food. They did give me a new plate but overall was sort of grossed out by it.

Enjoyed our date here! Food was absolutely delicious. The vibes were immaculate. Ravioli portion was a bit small but other than that everything was good.

Amelia Gene's is truly most beautiful and modern restaurant in downtown Memphis with professional and friendly staff to ensure the best dining experience. The roasted carrot soup as the amuse bouche was delicious. Simmered with whole peppercorn and puréed to a thick pulpy soup. We ordered the Black Seabass and the Dry Aged Prime Bone in New York strip steak with beef grease popovers. Both entrees were decent with flavor profile and a reflection of a small town charm and interpretation of fine dining. Just would have preferred a higher quality steak with darker color and flavor for its steep price point. Would be delighted to return to try their appetizers and pastas next time.

My biggest issue with this place was the club-like atmosphere at 8pm on a Thursday night. It's a small space. The lights were dimmed so low. The DJ was playing music loud enough for a 5,000 sqft space. This place is not the vibe for a meal if you want to talk to your friends, but definitely the place for good food at a great price.

Seemed to be more to-go orders than anything. We came and were seated. The server told us it was her first day so she didn't have answers to any of the questions that were asked. I ordered the blackened catfish pasta and my friend ordered the blackened catfish meal. After waiting for quite some time, the server comes over and tells us that it takes about 45 minute to cook our food since everything is made to order. So if we were on lunch break, it would be better to call in the order. 1- it doesn't take 45 mins to scoop pre-made pasta or grill catfish. 2- You probably should have told us that information when we arrived, not an hour after we been sitting. Yes it took a full hour to get our food. With no one else in the restaurant. Should have been a clue. My food wasn't even piping hot when we got it. It was lukewarm as best. So the taste was just ok. Fish very salty. Pasta flavor was ok. My friend enjoyed her meal but was also disappointed in the wait and the warmness of the food. Presentation was good however. I asked for a to-go container and the check. The server said ok and then went to talk to another employee for an additional 20 min as we were waiting to finish up and leave. I had to go ask her again. And she said it's on the way. So in all, we spent about an hour and 40 minutes in this establishment during our lunch time. Not sure I have any interest to return.

Went with my mother and sister while we were staying nearby attending a wedding party in Bartlett. Read about Catherine and Mary's online and decided to give it a shot based on pics and reviews. As soon as we stepped inside we were warmly greeted and made to feel at home. I must say here that my sister has a small disorder such that it's hard for her to talk in complete sentences, and she has a notable stutter. This means she also experiences a great deal of social anxiety. She felt so welcomed that she hardly stuttered while we were there, and when we left she said, "This was such a good place for people like me." I loved that they made me and my mom welcome, but am doubly grateful that you went out of your way to make my sister so happy. She really felt like you treated her like an old friend. My sister has a speech problem, but she's not mentally disabled (in fact she's an electrical engineer). So the kindness was not lost on her, and I know this will be a place we'll look forward to when we visit family in the Memphis area. Thank you so much for the excellent food and the awesome vibes! So disappointing! We stayed at the Peabody Hotel, and decided based on the reviews, menu and pics…read moreto try this restaurant, instead of dining at tried and true area restaurants. We ordered the calamari appetizer, and I ordered the shrimp scampi and my husband ordered the pork loin with sweet potato casserole for our entree. I think the pics speak for themselves for anyone who recognizes seasoning, freshness, and portions. The calamari was overcooked and too salty. The shrimp scampi was so bland and there was not one fresh vegetable in the dish and the scampi was not scampied. The shrimp tasted boiled with no seasoning, although they were nice size shrimp. I believe there were five shrimp in the dish. When they delivered my husband's pork loin dish, the pork loin was bouncing around the plate like a hockey puck. Terrible plating and presentation. He said the pork loin was actually good but the sweet potato in the casserole had no seasoning in the sweet potato and they just dumped brown sugar and powdered sugar on top. I had the Lucille cocktail and even that wasn't good. My husband had the peach sour and he enjoyed it. I wish I had gotten that drink bc it was good. The interior felt like a diner. It has an exposed kitchen. We sat in booth seating and sunk down and could barely reach the table to eat. The hostess offered me a pillow of which I accepted but she never brought it. We didn't complain about the meal initially and chalked it up to a restaurant we'd never visit again. As we were checking out of the hotel the next morning and chatting with the concierge, my husband mentioned our disappointing experience and the concierge spoke to someone and as we were waiting for the ducks in the lobby the next morning so the manager of the restaurant stopped by our table and I shared my disappointment with my meal. He apologized and I believe offered a little something if we chose to visit the restaurant again. We actually ended up going to the restaurant for breakfast after checking out but paid for our breakfast meal. My husband's breakfast meal was only removed from our bill because the biscuits and gravy, although he said they were actually good, arrived cold so they sent out beignets and sausage while he waited for them to make fresh biscuits, but we waited so long that he no longer wanted the biscuits and just tasted the beignet's which he's actually not a fan of anyway so he did not really have breakfast. I had the chicken and waffles. They were edible but the chicken was tough and overcooked. I had an overpriced glass of OJ. Salty, powdered sugar, and overcooked meat are not a recipe for a good meal for us. I'm so glad that we didn't splurge bc we would have been peeved to get such an amateurly prepared meal. The most overpriced meals we've had in a long time for what we expected from a restaurant in a famous hotel. Our waiter, Laye, was very professional and friendly.
