This is a must try Halal BBQ! Alger's BBQ offers a straightforward and great combo menu setup to enjoy the full BBQ meal which consist of their amazing meats + sides selection. Service is very nice, helpful, and patience when in the process of ordering the food. The ambiance expanded from a food truck to an actual restaurant. Upon entering you can feel that it suits the Austin vibes. Interior is clean and spacious. Can't wait to be back!

One of the few halal Texan BBQ spots in the area. We did takeout, so not sure about the service. Did the medium family order: 4 pounds of meat, 3 large sides. We tried brisket, beef ribs, and beef sausage. Sides were potato salad, creamed corn, and mac and cheese. Came with complimentary bread, pickles, and onions. The price was a hefty $140, but between 6 people, it came to about $23 per person, so I think that's pretty fair for Texan BBQ. Of the 3 meats, beef sausage was my fav, it had jalapenos in it and had quite the kick! The beef ribs, while not winning any awards, were good as well. My only criticism is that it amounted to 3 beef ribs, so we had to split each rib between 2 people. The brisket was supposed to be a mix of moist and lean with some burnt ends, but it leaned mostly lean. I would've liked more of the juicy cuts, and I didn't see any real burnt ends. It was decent, but I've had better. For my fam who only eats halal meat and hasn't had other Texan BBQ, they loved each and every piece of meat, so overall it was a great success. Everything was seasoned really well, and nothing was dried out. The sides were all really impressive. Everyone loved the creamed corn and potato salad. The mac and cheese here was better than at some other, more well known BBQ joints in the Austin area. I wish I'd read some of these reviews prior to ordering, I would have tried some of the lamb items that seem to have some fans. That'll be for next time. Even if you're not looking specifically for halal options, I think it holds its own among other BBQ joints in the greater Austin area in this tier.

I was craving BBQ, but was my craving get fulfilled? The service was friendly and there was a bit of a line. However my wait was not very long. There is no waitress, you order at the counter. Even though I didn't get the quail, I'm glad they had it on the menu. I got the brisket with green beans and BBQ beans. My sides were okay. The sides needed more love. The brisket was good, but I wish it was a little more juicy. Overall the flavor was fine . I can see myself coming back for the quail.

It's been a while since I did a review and a couple of months since I've been by to eat or get food to go. Nothing has changed !!! It's still a very solid BBQ place where EVERYTHING is delicious !!!! Great service, great atmosphere, great food !!! Tell em that the Texas Pond Bass Master (my you tube channel) sent you !!!!

This barbecue restaurant sits in a short strip center which includes a nail salon, liquor store, bake shop, and physical therapy. I was going to get the barbecue trifecta, but they do not serve St. Louis or baby back ribs. As many yelpers have pointed out, this is Halal, so no pork ribs. I got here on a Sunday around one, and there was only 4 people total in the restaurant, which means you probably never have to worry about standing in a line out the door baking in the sun like some places. The good: The brisket had a good smoke ring with a crust and was done right. The sliced turkey was very tender with just the right amount of seasoning. I like the fact that everything was wrapped separately with the pickles, onions, bread and barbecue sauce included. However, I did not get any utensils or napkins. The"OK": I got the half chicken and at first glance, it was so small I thought they gave me a quarter of chicken. At least this small bird was fairly tender, somewhat moist and well smoked. Nonetheless, it was still kind of disappointing. The sausage was firm, yet dryish with a nice jalapeño spiciness, but it was the size of a long hotdog. The only real turn off was their overly sweet pudding-like barbecue sauce. Overall what I purchased sits around the 3 1/2 to 4 star range, but they lose a half a star for their sauce. And finally, yes, the tip screen will be waiting for you. I didn't bother with any of their sides. I'll let everyone else talk about those. It's the meat that gets you through the door, not the sides. I hear their beef ribs are good. You can bring your own beer (BYOB approved) and wine here since they don't sell it. They do have water and soft drinks. It's a place I would try again. Check out the informative photos below. 31/2*

One word: lamb. Lamb ribs, lamb sausage, jalapeño cheddar lamb sausage. I don't know anyone else in Austin doing lamb sausage. It's amazing.... such a great flavor! Halal BBQ done right!

Great food- just the right amount of r of portion sizes - fast service Halal certified

Great environment and very hospitable crew, I got the 1/4 Brisket Sandwich, Cream Corn and drink for 2. The brisket was tender and flavorful, perfectly complemented by the sweet and smoky notes of the barbecue sauce. The cream corn was a delightful side, rich and creamy, adding a comforting touch to the meal. As I enjoyed my food, the staff frequently checked in to ensure everything was to my liking, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a satisfying meal that left me eager to return and try more of their delicious offerings.

Have you eaten bbq that is so great that you forget to take pictures of the food before you eat it. This happened to me today!? I went to the Gold's gym holiday party where Alzer's was served (brisket, sausage and turkey with green beans, Mac and cheese, beans, potato salad, and cream corn). All the bbq was flavorful and super moist. I'm a devout non-beef eater! The brisket was visually appealing so, I got lured into trying it. OMG it was good, I had seconds! The turkey was a convergence of moist and flavorful. The sausage was just ok. Note, to the sides - cream corn (buttery sweet), Mac n cheese (soft and oooy gooey God), beans (sweet and tangy) potato salad (real potatoe creamy explosion) & green beans (crunchy). Since I was at a holiday party no service was rendered. The price was great...free!! We ate at the gum so only sweat vibes. I definitely try Alzer's on another occasion.

Moist brisket, turkey, potato salad, and green chili, white cheddar mac & cheese !

I went here today for the first time. I ordered several different things. I ordered moist brisket, smoked turkey, a half chicken, quail, potato, salad, and green chili, white cheddar macaroni. Overall, I was very impressed with everything. The food was Excellent ! Definitely five stars hands-down !!!!! Definitely a must try !

Great service and the best brisket in my life! The brisket just falls apart on your fork. I liked it when General Manager checks on you to see if it is good. Definitely going back on a weekly basis while I'm in town.

This photo was taken at the front of the restaurant and you can see how clean it and that there's ample seating.

True old school pit BBQ. I highly recommend the beef ribs! Perfect touch of smoke. No sauce needed. The texture of the beef was nice and what most judges at BBQ competitions look for. Not oven cooked to where the meat slides off the bone. You could tell they were slow and low on the smoker for hours. Also ordered half a rack of lamb ribs which is pretty unique for a BBQ joint. The lamb meat was very tender and moist. I will be back! read more

I just ordered the best BBQ from Alzers. I Love their corn, it was fresh and seasoned to perfection! I have eaten here several times and they are always at community functions, but I just received a call from the owner, just asking me how my food was and I was impressed! Great food and customer service. It is a win, win. So I wanted to give back and let everyone know how great Alzers BBQ is. The brisket falls apart and big portions, sausage is delicious, they have quail and ribs all the time, not just on the weekends. The sides are family recipes (you can tell by the first bite) and they are just so willing to please. If you are in the Cedar Park area or heading to the lake (1431 & Lakeline) stop by and pick up some of the best BBQ the Northside of the lake has to offer! read more

Absolutely fantastic and CLOSE by - we stopped on the way home and picked up brisket and lamb chops, as well as a few sides. Everything was delicious, especially the lamb - it melted in our mouths!! Seasoning was on point, brisket was delicious, moist, and had a nice crust on it. Potato salad was fantastic, mustard style, but yet a slightly sweet tang to it. Sauce was a nice touch (thicker and sweeter than the usual Texas BBQ sauce - you don't need much but it's nice to have if you want it.) Jalapeños were not too spicy either, I could actually enjoy them :) We will be back to try the other offerings!! It's nice to have a CLOSE BY alternative to driving out to Taylor or Lockhart for good BBQ. Glad you're here, Alzers!! read more

Ordered right at the window around 2 PM yesterday (Sunday) and talked with Veronica (Mrs. Alzer) while my 3 wraps (chopped brisket, jalapeno sausage, and turkey) were prepared. Ordered a small side of coleslaw to dress our wraps and walked away with plenty of complimentary add-ons (bbq sauce, dill pickles, sliced jalapenos, white onion strips). I'll definitely be back to try the quail and cornish hens and sliced brisket! Great flavor on all 3 meats in the wraps and generous helpings; the slaw was the perfect cooling addition. Tables, light strings and bean bag toss boards for taking the family after sunset! So friendly and a great local business to support. read more

Alzer's is a wonderful business that produces a quality product for a fair price and takes care of their customers. We placed a large order for delivery to feed 35 guests. We were clueless on how much to order. When we called we relied on their guidance for how much food to order. Rather than over estimate to make more money, they recommended what they thought would be enough. Their estimate was spot on. The order was easy to place and they were super friendly. The day of our party the food was a little late. Mr. Alzer called to tell us the first brisket the cooked for us wasn't up to his standards and he wasn't willing to deliver a sub par product. He was cutting the second brisket he cooked for us as we spoke and it would be here shortly. This type of care doesn't exist anymore and I was impressed. The food was delivered still hot. Everything was fresh and packed in a way that was easy to serve. Mr. Alzer even included a small portion of Quail and Lamb (2 items we didn't order) to apologize for it being late. The food was amazing. Zero complaints form our guests, all of which eat a lot of Bar-B-Que on a regular basis. Everyone ate way too much because it was sooo good and there was minimal leftovers because people got seconds and thirds. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone thinking of trying it. Try a little bit of everything, it was all delicious. read more

Possibly some of the best brisket north of Downtown Austin. Had the brisket and jalapeño sausage. Brisket was moist, tender and flavorful. They cut it in thick slices, not the paper thin kind that others do. The brisket held together, with passing the pull test. Sausage had great flavor and a good snap on the casing, they did cut it in 1/3, I prefer the whole link so I will ask next time to have it whole. read more

I have been to Alzer's BBQ a couple of times and here are my favorites: the moist brisket is better than the famed BBQs in Lockhart! Try it and you will be coming back for more. The lamb chops are tender and flavorful, and where else can you find lamb chops?? Totally worth it. The sausage and beef ribs were decent as well. The sides are all smashing. Brisket was perfectly smoked and tender. No sauce is needed for any good brisket and this brisket needs no sauce! Turkey was moist and smoked to perfection. Sausage (regular and jalepeno) was tasty and although I prefer course ground meat in the sausage the flavor was very good. Looking forward to trying the rest of the meats on the menu. Sides were good but could use some tweaking. (More mustard in potato salad and less sweetness in BBQ beans) but these are minor gripes. We go for the meats not the sides! read more

When Alzer's opened, I read they served lamb chops and I was intrigued. Lamb is either fantastic or terrible, depending on the cook. Alzer's has it DOWN! My teenagers loved the lamb chops, and they are picky eaters. Perfectly seasoned, and unbelievably tender. We also ordered brisket, turkey and beef ribs...ALL OUTSTANDING! I can't recommend Alzer's strongly enough. I've been eating BBQ a long time, and Alzer's is just the best. I got the chicken sandwich with a pretzel bun and it was the thickest chicken sandwich I may have possibly ever had, but very good. The flavor is very robust, and I enjoyed every bite. I will say that if you are sensitive to spice, get it without the seasoning as it can be intense. They do let you choose the intensity and also have numerous sauces you can choose from. I wanted to have their BBQ several times before I posted a review but now that I've had it at least 6 times since they opened the restaurant, I have confidence in what I'm going to say. I will preface that I'm a BBQ connoisseur having been born and raised in a large family of BBQ cookers and eaters. First off, this is a family owned and run business that really cares about its customers and it's pretty noticeable the minute you walk in. We've tried just about everything on their menu and we have yet to be disappointed in any of it. We've taken friends there to try it out and have shared our food with others and we've all the same conclusion, it's amazing! The meat has a rich smoky taste that you can tell was cooked for hours, but it's not over done with smoke. Very tender and moist, especially the brisket, but all their meat has just been amazing. If you go early enough you might be able to get some chicken which to me is award-winning! We love it!! My kids LOVE LOVE LOVE their macaroni and cheese so I usually load up on that as well. When you consider the friendly staff, amazing BBQ and sides, and just as importantly, the price, it can't be beat! I'd put their food up against Smokey Mo's, Rudy's, Stiles and Switch, etc. and considering everything, Alzer's would be my choice every time. This family knows what they're doing, true authentic Texas BBQ! We are lucky to live a few blocks away but trust me, even if you live in Austin, Leander, or Round Rock, you need to get you some of this good stuff! Go early because they tend to run out of BBQ towards the end of the day but that just shows you how good it is. You can thank me later. read more

Just went there for the first time. Got a pound of brisket, pound of ribs, .5 pound of sausage, green beans and potato salad. Got home and immediately started digging in with the family. After we started eating, I realized that I didn't have the sausage. I must have left it. I called their number to ask about it and the owner drove it over to my house and gave us an order of smoked quail for free. What amazing service. The food was great. All of the food as a nice spice to it. The quail was a little spicy but still manageable with great flavor. My only complaint is the ribs were just a bit tough. Flavor was still good, though. I'm super stoked to have such a great place so close to us. My only concern is that they'll explode and want to move closer to Austin. However, after asking them about that, they told me they've lived in CP for 20 years (all of their kids went to HS here) and are lifers. My recommendations: Get one of the family platters. We got a family platter plus another pound and have quite a bit left over. The 30$ family plate is 1.5 pounds of meat with 2 large sides. My family is myself, wife and 3 year old. We also have a 4 month old but she's nursing and can't experience the greatness yet. read more

I was grabbing a late lunch so this location was dead - no music, no tv - dead silence. I went with a two meat plate- turkey and sausage - mixed review. The turkey was fantastic - wonderful flavor- was not dry at all - my golden rule is bbq should stand on its own - no sauce should be needed - And that goes for all meets brisket, turkey, whatever the pitmaster is cooking... It should stand on its own. . The turkey passed the test. The two sauces that Smoky Boes provided on the table was original and spicy. I was disappointed with both... Neither one really was anything special. Tasted like one of the run of the mill barbecue sauces You could buy off the shelf at your local grocery store The sausage was a disappointment. Very much standard fair. It tasted like a sausage link you bought from the grocery store took it out of the wrapper and cut it up. No flavor no temperature. It was overhaul just a piece of meat. Very disappointing. I had two sides, the cream corn, and a potato dish with cheese and bacon The cream corn was very tasty and I enjoyed it. The potato dish was interesting. It was diced red potatoes, with cheese and bacon. It would've been better if they had master or whipped the potatoes. When I finished eating the potatoes and the cheese and bacon, there was a good amount of water sitting in the Styrofoam cup it was served in. The overall taste was OK, but the dish itself was a disappointment. I picked up a package of sliced bread that was in a plastic wrap on the counter. The bread itself was a little stale and not that great. Fresh bread, warm fresh bread would've been a nice compliment to the meal. Overall, Smoky Mo is OK. Average fare, average price.

Late posting this review. I've been here twice with my husband now (recent visit was this past…read moreSaturday). I only have pictures from our first visit, but the second time around I got the fried pork belly fried rice as my side to go with the pork ribs. The pork ribs are moist, tender, and fall-off-the-bone delicious! On my first visit, I got the potato salad as my side. It was okay, just not as flavorful as I personally like -- but everyone has their own preference when it comes to potato salad. I ended up adding a little extra seasoning to mine, which is why I decided to try a different side the second time around. The pork belly fried rice paired really well with the ribs! The BBQ sauce could use a little more flavor in my opinion, and the portion they give is pretty small, so I ended up adding some of my own sauce. But the pickled onions and pickles on the side? SO good. Especially the onions -- they had such a distinct flavor that I could honestly eat them by themselves. They reminded me of the pickled veggies you get on a bánh mì sandwich, just without being overly vinegary. Honestly, if they ever made a brisket bánh mì sandwich using those pickled onions and veggies, it would probably be amazing! My husband always gets the brisket sandwich and loves the onions and pickles with it too. The location is tucked away down a small, rough-looking road near some duplexes. Our first time coming, we almost turned around because we were in my husband's coupe, but the second visit we took my SUV instead. Don't let the road scare you away though -- the food is worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful both times we visited. The location is also super convenient for us since we live nearby. Definitely happy we found this spot!

They have a dope setup with covered outdoor seating if you want to chill and eat there, but we ended up taking ours to go. Now, for the food. I ordered the 1 Meat Brisket Plate, which comes with a side, sauce, and pickles/pickled onions. Bro... that brisket was like butter. I know "tenderism" is trending all over social media right now, but this right here is the real deal!! It was so incredibly soft. For my side, I got the potato salad. To be honest, it was a little bland on its own, but it actually worked as a nice, solid base for me to hook it up my own way once I got home. Overall, Smoky Buns is a dope spot and easily hands-down the best BBQ in Central Texas!!!! I will absolutely be back.

TWO. MORE. POUNDS. That's how good they were. No regrets. Now let's talk BBQ. The presentation? Nice. I ordered a brisket taco, and it was really good--juicy, tender, and well-seasoned. I didn't even have to ask for extra sauce or anything. That's how you know it was solid. The owner asked me was it good I replied its gone ain't it lol There was also a DJ playing both old school and new school hits, so the vibe was on point. We danced, we laughed--it felt like a backyard cookout with a professional twist. Heads up though: if you plan to go, bring a chair. Seating is limited and unless you want to post up by a tree or play musical chairs with strangers, you'll thank me later. The staff was super nice too. As I was finishing my food, someone came over and offered to clean the table and take my trash. It was such a small gesture, but it really made me feel like I was dining inside a restaurant, not standing outside trying to balance a plate and a drink in one hand. All in all, I will definitely be back. The food? Fire. The vibes? Even better. Just make sure you come hungry--and maybe bring a folding chair and some napkins. You're gonna need 'em. I
