Just moved into Astoria, and found this great small little greek restaurant. Good service and quality food. A bit more upscale which i like. Best greek salad in Astoria PERIOD add chicken too. One of the nicer restaurants in the area. We did the $25 mezza special which was the quite the feast, and it allowed us try up to 15 dishes from unlimited pita bread with various sauces, different meats and seafood !!! All plates were tasty and delicious. One of best grilled marinated meats and calamari I've ever had. I will def be back soon. I recommend getting Lamb entree & Greek Salad, you can never go wrong there. Also there moussaka & lemon potatoes is on point too Def a must try if you're in the area. read more

my favorite greek place. the combo sandwiches allow you to mix 2 of their incredible meats. i suggest mixing the grilled chicken & shieftalia (meatballs), & then stealing your girlfriend's incredibly juicy gyro meat. Now, you have a 3-meat combo sandwich. read more

Fly in my cheese! I used to come here 8 years ago and was a wonderful place. Yesterday I was hungry and in the neighborhood I decided to go here with many memories of delicious meals, despite the fact that a good friend had told me that the place was no longer good. I had to leave the place without eating!!! first got my salad that was ok, followed by yummy fried cheese that they do, only, and to my disgust the lemon in the plate had already being used by another customer, when I tell them they just change the lemon, I look closer at my plate and guess what?????? I FRIED FLY came on the cheese! It was fried!!! A fried fly! Yuk yuk yuk! The place also looked pretty dirty, smelled unclean and the bathroom was disgusting This place is dirty and badly managed! I've been here before with no issues, but today the service was very strange. As soon as we were seated a guy came over to ask if we were ready to order. (Someone had literally dropped off menus 30 seconds before.) The server didn't ask if we wanted water or drinks to start, he just darted away - I asked for water from him but no. So then we randomly got water from another guy and then a THIRD guy came over while we were still looking at the menu. Still no "can I get you a drink while you're looking over the menu?" Everything just seemed strange. Finally a female server came over and took our drinks/food order but she misheard my friend's drink order, completely skipped his appetizer, then told my other friend the rose he ordered was much better than the one I had ordered ... not sure why she didn't volunteer that info when I was ordering? There was a busboy who asked every three minutes if he could clear various plates. We wanted to keep the plates for various reasons (one being to share my salad because my friend's beet salad never arrived), but the busboy kept coming by to grab plates! I have always been told that restaurant etiquette dictates that you clear all the plates once everyone at the table is finished eating but maybe I expect too much. The food is good but the service team really needs to talk to each other and just learn the basic things - people sit down, you bring them menus and water, ask them if they want to order drinks and/or apps, then take their entree orders. They were also remiss in the water refills and we never got offered the dessert/coffee menu. Maybe they just super-hated us? We're not Greek or Cypriot. But still - we were polite, we wanted to spend money and have a nice leisurely dinner. I don't get it! We even tipped 20% after this shitshow. But I won't go back. read more

Perhaps this is my own impression, but I tend to be somewhat observant when it comes to good food, and I take note of subtle nuances that others often overlook. When I first visited this restaurant a couple of years ago, when it first opened, the food had a very authentic appeal to it. There was the Cyprian twist, along with a Greek feel. When I visited the other night, I felt like I was eating at a generic restaurant, trying to capitulate on the "Mediterranean" angle, rather than accentuate its ethnic roots. On to the food: Besides being unreasonably overpriced (Green salad $14 ??? it's a couple of Romaine leaves for crying out loud), the food seemed somewhat institutional in freshness. The pita bread hardened very fast after a while, indicating possibly a pre-frozen product. The bronzini was dry, which is a dead giveaway to it not being fresh, but possibly frozen, and $34 for the portion size was an insult (I've eaten Bronzini up the block and it overlaps a larger plate, and it's fresh). The souvlaki which we were expecting to be of Cyprian preparation was equivalent to food truck quality. The Sheftalia had mint in it, I've eaten in Cyprus before, and did not expect that flavor. All in all, I feel that this place is going mainstream to capitulate on unfamiliar yuppie palates purely for $$$ rather than offer authentic fare based on the ethnic origins of the restaurant (I guess with the rents in the area I cant blame them in part). As far as service, the bus boy/water person was very good, waiter/waitress gave the impression it was a job and could be doing something else, hostess did not come across as very genuine. I've come here for dinner several times in the past year and a half of living right down the street. It's a cute little Greek place for socializing with friends and/or dates. You will not be disappointed by the simple and undaunting menu. The wait staff is always friendly and superb. I could sit out on the patio for hours talking without ever getting bored and not be asked to leave. The wine list, while not terribly impressive, is equally as enjoyable. If you're looking for a minimalist and basic meal with full flavor, there are several items to chose from. I usually order the Horiatiki Salad (an array of vegetables, cucumber, cilantro, feta, and olives), the Manitaria Krasata (mushrooms in cooked wine). I've had the Octopus Salad once and the Chicken Souvlaki did not let me down. read more

Really delicious Greek classics - branzino, chicken kebab, salads. The chopped salad with tomotoes, olives, and feta was super refreshing and the lemon potatoes were amazing with the entree. The branzino was big enough that we took home half of it, and they had a good wine selection. For Astoria, for this type of food, its maybe a tiny bit on the expensive side, but the service is attentive and friendly and we felt very well taken care of. read more

You can find far better Greek in Astoria. The grilled calamari is always chewy. Kebobs with calamari and shrimp will give you dry shrimp and under or overcooked calamari. The gyro is good. You could do worse. Ask for extra Taziki. The tiny portion served to start is in the cup for your diner cole slaw. It is about a tablespoon of sauce. Thats insulting. Ask for more and pay over a 1$ every tbs. Lemon potatoes can be pretty good. It is pricey. You can pay less and get tastier food and larger portions. You will pay too much for Astoria, Greek, here. Okay. So I waited until my second visit to write this review. I have learned from experience that consistency really is one of the most important hallmarks of a truly great restaurant and what better measure of that than to visit on two occasions a few months apart. I was not disappointed in my return as this restaurant remains one of my NYC favorites. On both occasions the wait staff (and owner) were friendly and accommodating. Despite the very "cozy" dining area, bar and kitchen the atmosphere is remarkably relaxed. This, I attribute, to the confidence of the staff in their ability to provide great food along with a great dining experience. On both visits the owner made a point of visiting our table and offering his suggestions with regard to our food and drink selections. And there wasn't a hint of "salesmanship" on either visit, but rather, what appeared to be a genuine appreciation on his part for our patronage along with his obvious pride in his food. I ate (or tasted) too many great dishes during my visits to recommend just one or two and the menu is one that should be explored depending on your tastes. But I will say that last night I thoroughly enjoyed a Greek red wine, grilled octopus and pulled lamb. My only regret was not leaving room for some baklava for dessert. read more

Went here with a couple of friends last night and had a terrible experience. We arrived around 730pm and we seated around 740. Once we were seated at our table it took about 10 minutes until I finally asked the waiter for menus! We placed our whole order after being passed by multiple times. We patiently grew impatient and watch many other tables have their meals served. We then found out about 45 minutes later that "we are so sorry something happened with your ticket and the food was never made". They are getting 2 stars because their food is delicious, but they were completely understaffed. I was extremely disappointed with the service. And for having us wait over an hour for our food we didn't even receive a complimentary appetizer or money off the bill. read more

What an amazing find! I've lived in Astoria for over 5 years, and this was my first time at Aliada - I now have a new place to bring EVERYONE who comes to visit. I went with my parents and my brother. My mom and I each got a fish meal (the swordfish kebabs were delicious!) and my brother and dad each got the chef special with so many small dishes (dips, veggies, seafood, meat, and cheese), all 4 of us could share them. I ate here twice during my six day trip in NYC. It's very close to my friend's apartment, and I think he frequents it almost every friday. I had the falafel sandwich my first time there, which was priced around $7 and very filling. I wouldn't say the falafel is the best I ever had, but it is very tasty. The restaurant serves complimentary pita, and since I was with regulars, they also got some hummus. My friends were sharing an amazing looking seafood grill plate, with what appeared to be fish and octopus (as far as what was left). Looks delicious. The second time I went, I had the greek salad, which was huge. We did order a large, and split it between three people. A small can apparently feed two people if ordered as a side. We sat outside both times, and the restaurant has lovely white tablecloths and planters. Really great ambiance, though you can choose to sit inside. Our waitress is a doll and once again, due to the regular dining nature of my friends, we were given a complimentary dessert. I can't remember what it was, but it was yummy. :) There are ample selections for vegetarians as well. read more

Great food, great staff, great ouzo. Went here two days in a row for dinner outside. The weather was nice, our server was very friendly. He joked around with us a lot and gave us some great recommendations. The octopus is amazing. The saganaki was pure cheesy goodness. And their spanakopita is absolutely delicious. Returned. We haven't been in a long time! It still took a very long time for the food. Which is really hard with 2 small kids... It was awesome, very fresh! We find that delivery from here is not fresh. So definitely go there to eat. The shrimp and calamari platter is great! read more

The quality of food and service is nothing like it used to be. Skipped our table 5 times before they served the bread - we received our appetizers and I asked 3 times- every table who were seated after received the hummus and bread immediately after being seated - once they did bring us the bread the waiter went ahead and gave our hummus to another group of people who just sat down (I must be in a sitcom) - either way- the the burger is not good at all- had better at a diner - the fried fish didn't have any flavor - the chicken kebab was dry- red beets was okay (remember it being one of my favorite appetizers) branzino ... ugh! Didn't blow me away like it used to - the watermelon salad was good- the octopus was amazing (must be the only thing they put love into making). Sorry for the bad review but the lack of attention/courtesy (not picking up all the dirty plates ..taking our utensils and not bringing new ones right away ..etc) is disrespectful and rude and not once did the waitress apologize - more like "ohhh I forgot." read more

There was 8 of us for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated immediately. The food was delicious and the service was good. We were served with hummus and fresh pita as we sat down. We were harassed by the staff the entire time. They gather outside as they wait for their other tables to order and talk about extremely crude things. Not only were they talking about me and my guest, they scream expletive words to the point it's unbearable to have an enjoyable experience. Just picked up the chicken kebab entree to go on my way home and it was amazing!!! Really hit the spot after being starved from walking around the Bronx Zoo all day! The chicken was perfectly grilled, all white meat. The greek salad was perfect, lots of feta. The pita was super fresh, as were the lemon potatoes with really good rice. They have outdoor seating, which is great when its warm weather. The older man who seemed to be the owner, even gave me some delicious dessert on the house! Decent place. Service was kind of slow. Hummus was absolutely delicious. However, the chicken and lamb kebabs that we got were kind of generic. Crave has just as good of kebabs/souvlaki as Aliada and is 2/3 the price. Good, solid choice for Greek food in Astoria, arguably one of the best places to get Greek food in the States. We did a bottle of white wine and a bunch of appetizers. It did not disappoint!
