Horiatiki/Greek Village Salad. $19. Above average. Nice tomatoes and feta
    Glenn C.

Recommendations from what we tried: Shieftalia, Makaronia tou Fournou, Koupepia, and Horiatiki. In short, stick with mezzes. I found out about this Cypriot/Greek spot a while ago through the IG account TasteBuds and checked it out with one of my food groups a couple of weeks ago. The servers were friendly, and the inside, while dark, felt warm and comforting, which was especially true as I had just come in from a storm. To drink, I had a cold brew cocktail for around $18 that I can't find on the current menu. Outside of the cold brew, there was an anise/coffee liquor (I believe Sifonios Ouzo Coffee Liqueur), some type of citrus, and possibly something else, and it was very tasty. They gave us some warm bread along with, I believe, a soft fava bean spread or hummus while we were waiting for food. In terms of food, I loved the mezze here, but I prefer some other places in Astoria for fish/seafood. As the menu didn't have the Tomato Salad listed online, we instead got their version of Horiatiki/Greek Village Salad for $19 with cucumber, tomatoes, green bell peppers, red onions, barrel-aged feta cheese, and Kalamata olives. The salad had a nice block of good feta, and the tomatoes were very juicy. Overall, it was a bit better than the typical spot in the neighborhood, and we enjoyed it. Next to arrive was my favorite dish of the night, the $17 Shieftalia, listed as a traditional Cypriot sausage made of minced pork, chopped onions, fresh herbs, and spices wrapped in caul fat and grilled over live fire. The dish came with four large pieces topped with some tomatoes, with some tzatziki on the side. The sausages were very juicy and had a wonderful grilled flavor with mild spices and herbs. This was outstanding, and I highly recommend it. Another excellent dish was the Makaronia tou Fournou for $25, listed as Cypriot baked pasta with herbed meat sauce, grated halloumi cheese, and creamy bechamel sauce. It reminded me to an extent of Pastitsio, but almost more comforting. There was tender pasta, slightly salty cheese, and a rich bechamel that tied the whole thing together. The warming spices, which were presumably mixed into the meat, added new depth to the overall flavor. As described, it's a bit of a wait for this dish, but it was very much worth it. Another tasty dish was the $17 Koupepia, their version of Dolmades, listed as Cypriot vine leaves stuffed with ground pork, rice, and fresh herbs, wrapped in grape leaves, and cooked in a fresh tomato lemon broth. I preferred these over the Greek variety because the grape leaves were more tender, less overly sour, and warm. I would recommend these as well. The only mezze I disliked, mostly because of the price point, was the Shrimp Santorini for $22, listed as succulent shrimp in aromatic tomato feta sauce. The shrimp were cooked properly, and the sauce was delicious, but there weren't that many shrimp. It was good, but I would recommend spending your money on their other equally excellent mezze. Otherwise, we got two decent mains, each with a side. First was the $26 Soutzoukakia, listed as Greek baked meatballs cooked in homemade tomato sauce and served on a bed of rice with Greek yogurt and feta cheese sauce. The sauce had some cinnamon with a mild sweetness, while the meatballs were a bit less tender than the sausages. The rice was otherwise plentiful and well-cooked. There was also the Dorado Royale, or Mediterranean Sea Bream, which was $44 for 800 grams. I have had more tender and flavorful fish from a few other places nearby, but it was nice that it was butterflied without bones, outside of the head and tail, of course. For sides, I chose the Sautéed Mushrooms, which are normally $16, and the Horta, or boiled greens with Greek olive oil and lemon, which is normally $15. The mushrooms had some grilled onions and peppers, and it was a nice mix overall. The later horta, made from the typical dandelion greens, I believe, had a bit of bitterness, which went well with the other richer dishes. Overall, both mains and sides were good, but I preferred the other things. This was a very tasty place and a good replacement for an old Cypriot spot on Ditmars that closed a good while ago. Would go back to probably get their $60 mezze sampler, or just try more things from that menu.

    Dorado full of bones

Nice Greek restaurant. I really like the interior.. Service was very slow. Grill octopus was delicious. But everything else was not that great:( The waiter brought Dorado fish full of bones. And the light in the restaurant was not that bright so you can see it.. also fish was barely warm. Such a disappointment..

Delicious! Had reservations for 2 but still had to wait ~15 minutes. But overall the decor is cute, the service was great, (attentive, refilled our waters, replaced our plates), and the food was delicious. Ordered many items and I would probably skip the fried cheese because it was way too salty for our liking. Would recommend the tzatziki and the branzino as those were my faves. Love the complimentary hummus and pita. They also bring diff oils for diff dishes!

Exceptional Greek food and service! My girlfriend and I have been here 3 times and it's better and better each time. We love ordering the fish Meze and it's so much food. If you are looking for a spot that has that traditional Greek/Cyprian feel Aliada is your go to place. I really like sitting outside but inside will do just fine. Just make sure you call ahead and make a reservation! Gets packed on the weekend.

Rounded up to 5 stars Aliada is a very comfortable neighborhood restaurant. The menu offers a variety of appetizers and entrees. Everything that we ordered was flavorful and delicious. The portion size is generous and the staff is attentive.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and was not disappointed. It has a nice outdoor seating area and the inside is nice and cozy. The food was amazing, the octopus and grilled calamari were delicious. Lamb chops were cooked perfectly and the pork chop was amazing. George was excellent and gave great recommendations.

Mezze spreads, loved the fish one and hummus

Amazing delicious authentic Greek food! We went for the prix fixe lunch family style and it was so much food, they gave us extra dishes to try too! Everything was great, I really enjoyed the Greek spread - salmon dip , hummus, baked halloumi cheese , octopus, shrimp, mussels , branzino - so fantastic, it was an enjoyable birthday! Staff were very attentive and friendly!

Have been wanting to try this for a while. I would say it's a pretty nice vibe, kinda feels like Greece on a random Astoria street. Service was good, they let us take our time and finish our food. Onto the food, it was pretty good. We got one of the white fishes and it went well with the capers and olive oil. Calamari was pretty good, honestly felt pretty good eating it since it was deep fired in oil. Lamb chops were really good too. Overall, would definitely recommend especially on a nice summer/fall day.

6 of us made a reservation along with a baby, and they were able to provide a high chair. It's relatively small and all the tables were packed even on a Wed night. They started us off with complimentary pita (came hot!) And hummus. - Calamari app was my favorite thing here. We got it fried and it was executed perfectly with the meat still so tender and chewy. - Moussaka was surprisingly good too, the best version I've had so far. A good portion and a nice ratio of all the different ingredients - Lamb chops were good as well but I only had a few pieces (4 pieces in total) so I couldn't eat too much of it. - Grilled octopus was good too. It came presliced and I prefer it whole but it was well cooked and not rubbery - Branzino was standard and fine too. We got the bigger version. - The steamed Mussels and the Zucchini croquettes were not bad but wouldn't get again. Sides: giant beans (love these but I prefer Bahari's version), French fries (shoestring, solid version), and lemon potatoes (standard, might get something else next time)

This is my third time here. I highly recommend this place if you want quality Greek food! They serve fresh hummus and pita. The octopus as a starter was delicious. I also like the Mousaka- it's like a soft Greek lasagna but no pasta just ground meat and cream and eggplant. Also recommend the cocktails - the Le Mon was perfect- a vodka lemonade with just the right amount of alcohol. They sat us outside in their heated area and it was a warm November night. I asked for the heater to be turned off as it was directly above my seat. They were very considerate. There was a loud evangelist man shouting on a microphone on the street and they asked if we wanted to move but we decided to stay since he moved shortly afterwards. The food is pricey but worth it! Super stuffed and each time I always take home food.

    Frank M.

Smaller than I expected, but the shieftalia was better than I expected never having it before. Right amount of flavor and taste and easy to cut up. Bread was fine. Fries were fine too-but sharply cut. The tahini sauce was great! Ordered as take-out. Also, I did ask for utensils but none were provided.

    Brazino
    Sara W.

Octopus was one to remember and would recommend. Same with the brazino. Koupepia which was the vine leaves was also good but small for the portion size. Mousaka was okay, seemed too much cream for our taste. Would come back to try again though. Seafood was great. Ambiance outside was a bit darker than would have liked though. Actually got a slight splinter from the chairs... so be careful. Service was good. Was celebrating a friend's birthday and we saw another table receive a cake with a candle while our friend did not, though was indicated on our reservation.

Ate here today for lunch and dinner after work as a substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 234 Q. I had brought and ate the chicken souvlaki skewers with fries and baklava that it had tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive, pleasant and friendly. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time.

For my main, I had the grilled deboned red snapper -- absolutely delicious. It came with a creamy lemon sauce on the side that you can pour over the fish, plus oregano fries and grilled vegetables. The veggies were amazing, especially the grilled onions that just melted in your mouth. We also ordered takeout: kefte kebab with fries, which was maybe smaller portion but it was good flavor. For dessert we had a baklava float (I think that was the name) with coffees to finish. Very happy with the whole meal overall. Drinks at the bar beforehand were also a highlight -- sangria and a gin, lavender, elderflower, cucumber cocktail that my grandma actually loved.

Hamido completely changed that! The food was absolutely phenomenal. The scallops were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, the wild shrimp was amazing, and everything we tried tasted fresh and top-tier. And let me not even get started on the mussels -- absolutely TO DIE FOR! Every bite was better than the last. The atmosphere was also perfect for a date night. It was lively and welcoming without being overly loud, so we were able to relax, talk, and really enjoy the experience. I would 100% recommend Hamido Seafood for a date night, dinner with friends, or anyone looking to try something different with incredible seafood and bold flavors. I'm already looking forward to coming back!

This felt like one of the few restaurants left where you can really see the love and care the staff puts into the food; they asked us a lot of helpful questions to ensure we would have a great experience. And since it was our first time, we wanted to get a little bit of everything; *scallops (these were my favorite) *grilled calamari *seared branzino (they butterflied it for me) *fish and chips *steamed prawns *moussaka, babaganoush and olive platter with pita (I recommend adding this) Everything was fresh, properly seasoned and worth the money. Sadly, the ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I was dying for the mint lemonade (I walk past Hamido daily and literally every day I say how excited I was to try it) and the day I went they didn't have it! That's the only aspect that was disappointing. If you're visiting NYC or an NYC local visiting Astoria from another borough, give this place a shot!
