Alexander's is an upscale steakhouse with a little bit of Japanese influence. Because of that influence, you'll see some wagyu beef on the menu as well. The service is great and feels appropriate with the fine dining experience, but also friendly enough to not feel stuffy. The vibe here feels upscale for sure. Like if you have a carte blanche dinner budget for work or if you're going out for a special occasion. I came here recently with a group of friends/coworkers. We meet up every couple months and choose a new place. I didn't know about this place or too much about it before coming here. But to be honest, I rarely go out to steakhouses anymore. Because we went with the group of friends, we definitely ordered family style, where we ordered a few steaks along with a bunch of sides and other dishes to share. We got: - seafood pasta - blue lake beans - KFC (Korean fried chicken inspired cauliflower) - mashed potatoes - mushroom medley - rib eye chop - Kansas City strip I definitely enjoyed all the sides. I really liked the KFC. The cauliflower had a nice crisp shell on the outside and had delicious sauce well integrated. The steaks were cooked perfectly to order and were very very tasty. We celebrated a group birthday dinner on Valentine's Day, and everywhere we looked there were cozy tables for 2 -- I think we were the only big party! Since Pasadena is a bit of a drive for us, we booked a later reservation (8:00pm) and luckily found street parking. It's free after 6 p.m., except on Saturdays and Sundays. They offer 90-minute validation for the underground lot so I don't think parking would be an issue. The restaurant is in a lovely space right next to CPK. The dining area is spacious, with multiple rooms that make it feel open but not overwhelming. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated quickly. As soon as we sat down, the staff offered us a complimentary bread basket with butter -- of course we said yes. The assortment included milk bread, squid ink bread, and a garlic variety (I can't quite remember the last one). All were served warm and paired perfectly with the butter. The portions were generous and most dishes were delicious. My husband ordered the 22oz T-bone medium rare, but it came out closer to a medium. He also expected it to be more tender, but it was unfortunately a bit tough. The other meat dishes, however, were cooked as requested and full of flavor. Although they offered a Valentine's set menu, we chose to order à la carte. The three of us girls shared several dishes while the two guys ordered their own entrées. With all the sides we added, there was more than enough food for everyone to leave satisfied. Here's what we tried: -Beet Salad: The goat cheese complemented the beets nicely, though there wasn't much cheese on the plate. The beets were well prepared. -Grilled Octopus: Tender and nicely cooked, I really liked the almond garlic crumble. -Mushroom Medley: A hint of citrus really enhanced the mushrooms -- surprisingly one of my favorite sides. -Brussels Sprouts: Crispy and delicious. -Korean Fried Cauliflower: I always feel like Korean Cauliflower is always a bit too heavy on the red chili paste no matter where I get it. It might just be me though because my friends enjoyed it. -Mashed Potatoes -Fried Rice: Sesame-heavy and made with crispy rice. We enjoyed it. -Filet Mignon: Cooked as ordered. -T-bone: Overcooked and not as tender as hoped. Our server did check up on us after we received our meal to see if everything was cooked well but at this time, my husband had not gotten too far into this T-bone. He was disappointed. -Australian Rib Eye: We originally considered the Rib Eye Chop, but when the server heard the three of us were sharing, he recommended this instead (there was a $70+ price difference though). It was well cooked, flavorful, and quite large--we had plenty left over. -Candlelit Caramel Apple: Even though we were stuffed, we enjoyed this dessert. We only ordered one to sing happy birthday to my friend, but the server kindly surprised us with a cheesecake topped with a candle as well. At the end of the meal, we were also treated to house-made cotton candy...made by our server! I'm not usually a fan of cotton candy, but this one was quite tasty. -Caramel Latte: Sweet but not TOO sweet. -"Fatally Yours" Cocktail: Recommended by our server. Tasty but definitely on the sweeter side. -"Dual Citizenship" Cocktail: My friend loved it. I'm not a big fan of mezcal since it's a bit too smoky for me. -Espresso Martini: Well made and nicely balanced. Overall, the service was excellent, the food was plentiful and delicious, and the atmosphere was pleasant without being too loud. We took a chance in choosing Alexander's Steakhouse in Pasadena to host my wife's Christmas party. Our reserved room was cozy and comfortable. The staff were amazing! The servers were great in making sure your cocktail glasses were never empty and appetizers were being offered to everyone as we socialized before dinner. Dinner service was quickly brought to tables and the Anchovy Cesar salad was perfect to start. I ordered the 16 oz Ribeye steak that was cooked med rare, with a nice crust and fatty seasoned balance. The sides of mashed potato and broccoli complimented the steak as well. Dessert was cheesecake with a fruit sauce puree that finished our meal in a satisfying way. DO NOT ORDER THE RIBEYE! Husband and I finally got a kid-free night so we chose our favorite fancy steakhouse to celebrate a romantic solo date and also Valentine's Day. It started amazing...we ordered champagne, oysters, caviar service (baerii delicious!), fig arugula salad (brulee figs FTW!), bone marrow w/ toast, the bread basket... all incredible! Ordered some cocktails, wine and a whiskey flight and I really liked the Slyer's whiskey from Germany! BUT the second part of our dinner was a huge letdown. My husband told out server he wanted his ribeye charred and cooked medium rare, our waiter (who was great btw) confirmed he will get the nicest crust on the outside but when it arrived it was SAD. First of all it was a very THIN cut, fatty and had a boiled look to it. Check my photo. Our server agreed it was not what he asked for and took it back but when it came back it still didn't have the crust we saw on the other steaks and now it was overcooked- so he just ate it. Mushroom medley was a bit sour from too much lemon and the fried rice had too much fish sauce after taste. I ordered lobster as my entree and for $65 I thought it would've been a bigger tail. Flavors were delicious but due to the steak situation my lobster got cold as I wanted to eat with my husband. So our much anticipated dinner date was a disappointment. Alexander's is hands down one of the top tier steakhouses around. We love it here. Their service is above par and they took the ribeye off the bill and gave us a complimentary dessert. Love this place and have been coming for many years, from before we had kids to now dining here as a family and even bringing our dog once for the patio. The people here are what make it truly special. Over time we've met so many members of the team and built real friendships, which says everything about the level of hospitality. The way they take care of my kids makes every visit feel warm and personal, and being welcomed with champagne when we arrive is always a great start to the night. The steaks are consistently great and almost always cooked perfectly. You can taste the quality, especially knowing they age their own steaks in house. The cocktails are also a must and are just as memorable as the food. On warm nights the outdoor patio is one of the best places to sit and relax. It was our very first time dining at Alexander's Steakhouse and it was such a treat! We celebrated Valentine's Day here and everything was spectacular. Our server, Nick, was great and made our experience so lovely.  There are multiple parking structures near the restaurant. Don't forget to bring your parking ticket so they can validate it for free parking! We checked in and were seated immediately. We've had horrible experiences in the past on Valentine's Day with restaurants overbooking, causing us to be sat much after our reservation time - this was not the case at all. Service was on point and we did not feel rushed.  We ordered the House Bread, Porterhouse Steak with Chimichurri Sauce, Mushroom Medley, and Lobster Mac & Cheese (special for Valentine's Day and is not regularly on the menu). They also brought out their Korean Fried Cauliflower, on the house. EVERYTHING was divine. My favorite side was the Mushroom Medley! At one point, I overheard a conversation in the kitchen about why a new steak needed to be prepared with the bone removed. Before I could explain, the waiter assisting me gently shared that dogs shouldn't eat cooked bones due to the risk of splintering. In that moment, I felt such care and thoughtfulness from the staff. They weren't just preparing a meal--they were looking out for her. That steak was for my shepherd's final meal before saying goodbye. I feel like it's long overdue for an updated review of Alexander's Steakhouse in Pasadena. This is particularly poignant as they were closed for quite a long time and I wasn't even sure if they were going to reopen. Well, I have now come here twice in the last year and one thing remains constant: if there is a better steakhouse in the L.A. area than Alexander's, I haven't been to it yet. Of course, the food is always top-notch here. As far as appetizers go, you can never go wrong with their signature hamachi shots or the very rich uni toast. Although last time, the grilled Spanish octopus and and Hokkaido scallops definitely hit the spot. When it comes to steaks, they simply cannot be topped. First visit last year, I went with the 28 oz Westholme F1 Australian Wagyu Bone-In Ribeye. Second visit last year, I shared an absolutely glorious 43 oz Black Opal Australian Wagyu Tomahawk. These guys are professionals know how to cook a damn good steak! And as far as sides go, do not sleep on the fried rice with added pork belly. Always hits the spot. But as usual, it's the service that sets Alexander's apart from everywhere else. Just absolute top-notch service every time. They really go out of their way to make your meal special. Whether it's reciting the menu to make sure you know the best options for your meal, making sure the food comes out promptly and prepared perfectly, or free desserts (and the trademark cotton candy!), they just know what to do here. Ambience has always been fantastic here. As I said before, elegant yet modern. Tables are spaced well enough so you're not cramped and feel like you're near anyone. High ceilings help a lot as well. And for the first time, I didn't sit in the main dining room! It was a pretty cool experience being next to the open kitchen. Alexander's Steakhouse is located at the old McCormick and Schmitz restaurant. It hasn't changed much except for the lighting- which is dimmed but also lit by the sun shining through the windows. We were greeted at the entrance by the hostess and shown to our table. Our waiter came over to take our drink orders and gave us time to look over the menu. Upon his return he told us about the specials and suggested steaks to share. Our meal began with a cubed watermelon topped with creamed brie, perfect amuse bouche, followed by a bread basket with choice of 3 butters. After about 20 mins., our meal was served- the black cod that I tasted ( it was my husbands) was so flaky and gently seasoned. It paired perfectly with the buttery, seasoned mushroom medley and perfect mashed potatoes. My filet mignon was cooked to a medium rare- perfect! It was tender and flavorful and also paired well with the sides. I would have liked a like more sauce to blend the meat in but I had no problem finishing it. It was That Good! We were given a glass of Champaign before our desserts came, it was a nice surprise and paired well with the Desserts we shared because we wanted to try both the crème brûlée which was so creamy and topped with ice cream and fresh berries. The chocolate soufflé was filled with a chocolate scoop, whip cream, and chocolate sauce- it was chocolate Dream! I come to Alexander's for my birthday almost every year. The service is good and usually quick, this year was no exception. The dining area is spacious enough to have a private conversation, but close enough to feel like a lively setting. The food is good, although I do need to admit that over the years (especially during Covid) the quality has been on a downward trend. The portion sizes on the sides are getting smaller, and they charge for extra bread now. Some of the recipes have changed, with the mushrooms losing some of the extra kick from yuzu and the hamachi shots were significantly drier and less fulfilling. The taste was still good and reminded me of the past, but at higher prices, I left feeling less fulfilled. We were the first customers in at a 5pm reservation, and there was a fly already. We have celebrated many occasions from Birthdays to anniversaries, to business meetings had been returning often because of the great service, the great ambiance, its super chill, very classy service, expertise. Food quality has been great up in till December , and around valentines day. Hmmm, where do I start? We have been here for years and, this, unfortunately, was the first time we were disappointed with service, with the exception of our waiter, he was great but overwhelmed, considering it was New Year's Eve. After dessert, sad to say, again, waited forever to get bill, having to flag down someone to help us out. Not sure what the issue was, if you were short-staff or just that all the waiters were overwhelmed as it was a busy night. One couple in our group are regulars and have always spoken very highly of the restaurant, which is what convinced the rest of us to give it a try. When the food finally arrived, he was served the original dish he had been told was unavailable. A minute later, another server came out with the replacement entrée. It was confusing and felt disorganized. Our friends, who are regulars and had recommended the restaurant, were clearly embarrassed, which was disappointing given how strongly they had spoken about the place. Overall, service was very slow throughout the evening. It took a long time to receive our food and just as long to get our check and pay the bill. While the food itself was excellent, service on a night like New Year's Eve should match both the pricing and the expectations that come with a special occasion. Parked underground that's shared with the hotel. Came here for a work dinner, got seated in one of the conference rooms with about 30 guests. They were kind of slow when refilling drinks such as water and our club soda which was surprising. The salad was pretty tasty, the steak was cooked medium however even with the sauce it wasn't as flavorful as I thought, mashed potato was nice and creamy and the baby broccoli still had a crunch to it. I didn't get to the cheesecake cause we had to go home but overall it was a good experience. The rest of the restaurant has a romantic feel to it. We tried all 6 of their cuts of wagyu beef, and each one provided a whole different experience. Every single cut was tender and juicy, but my favorites were the Miyazaki, Kobe, and Oita which was extremely fatty. They also gave us 6 different salts to pair with the steak: black salt, cancale, sel d'antibes, appalachian salt, smoked salt, sal de gusano. We also had the caviar which was delicious, tasted fresh and well presented. The tartare came on bread with slices of truffle on top. However, although I love tartare, this dish was a pass. The bread to tartare ratio was too off and it overpowered the tartare. The rib eye (which I believe is dry aged) was extremely tender. This was the best ribeye I've ever had and it was especially good with the butter. Speaking of butter-- not pictured is the bread with the beef butter and honey butter inside a bone marrow they served us. Both were good, especially the honey butter. This was also the best truffle pasta I've ever had. The sauce was so creamy. I also love Kumamoto oysters because even though they're smaller, they're sweeter than normal oysters. They were super fresh and I believe they only serve oysters no older than 48 hours old. Lobster mac is a must at any steakhouse, and this one did not disappoint. Not pictured is the fried rice which was recommended but could have done without. However, the broccolini was worth an order, and I loved the hint of sourness in it. Had an amazing date night here! The wait staff is incredibly attentive. Prices are going to be higher than one would normally pay due to the high quality of the food and the staff. There's a gigantic selection of alcohol and spirits and wine. We had the uni toast, oysters, a Cesar salad, baby broccolini, Mac and cheese, Australian ribeye and filet mignon. The bread and butter were amazing. Don't think I've ever had better bread and butter, one of the pieces was made with squid ink. The chef also gave us a complimentary cucumber "bite" salad. The staff didn't mind we wanted a window seat viewing the church courtyard even though they were placing people in the room past the kitchen and bathroom areas. We finished with the creme brûlée and they even gave us a pink cotton candy they made in house! read more

The hamachi shots are a must try. On a good night, this place really stands out with great flavors, solid steaks, and a nice atmosphere. Definitely a spot I keep coming back to. read more

Alexander's is definitely fine dining. I really like the hamachi shots. Each time I have dined here I have to order them. Their breads and butters are warm and different. The chef always sends a taste to sample. This time it was a pickled cucumber with gochujang mousse. My mom ordered the Australian waygu filet, which melts in your mouth like butter. I ordered the black cod with roasted bell pepper cream · zucchini puree · pickled carrots · sesame oil. For sides we had the mushroom medley wild mushroom · citrus soy vinaigrette · chive and the fried rice lap-xuong · sesame · tobiko with waygu. It's also one of my favorites. Finally for dessert the butterscotch crème brûlée mixed berries · honeycomb · vanilla ice cream. We were celebrating by birthday and they brought a yuzu cheesecake with a candle in it. The finale cotton candy watermelon flavor and made in house gum drop and Nutella chocolate. The restaurant is quiet and the staff is friendly and welcoming. If you haven't dined at Alexander's steakhouse it's a must. read more
