Looks nice. They act like its a high class restaurant. I'd compare the food and service to applebees. This is because they only had white napkins, plates where cold, silverware was not taken away after ever course, and table was not cleaned of crumbs before dessert. The only people whom would think this is amazing are the same whom think Olive Garden and Red Lobster are good. The escargot was over broiled, the Caesar dressing tasted like a spoon full of Miracle Whip, there was no mustard, no garlic, no lemon and no anchovies. So I don't know what they think they where making, maybe a ranch dressing. The duck was decent but bland no where near the best I've ever had. The Lamb Shank tasted more like pot roast. The macadam nut crusted black grouper was far to sweet it over powered the fish and the palate and was over cook. Everything was under seasoned or over sweet. Eclectic menu with a comfortable ambiance. I had a lamb shank that was delicious. My wife had Grouper that she described as terrific. Wine choices were broad. The setting was inside; although, there is a courtyard dining area. Service was great. Was a bit disturbed by some banging out back or upstairs though. Was told it was a back door that was being opened and closed for some reason. If it wasn't for that disturbance I would have given it another 1/2 star (if possible). Will give this place another "go see" next season. Would like to try for lunch on the courtyard. Also, there is a small bar area I noticed on the way out. read more

Just had a lovely lunch at Alexanders. Ordered off of the health menu. Grilled scallops w/ crisp veggies and pureed squash. Done to perfection! Problem was the waiter was having a bad day! Didn't refill our drinks and finally when we asked came with tea instead of soda! Don't think he enjoys his work! Desserts were good only took for ever to get them. A hidden gem, among restaurants with no personality in the area. We had a lunch during the week and we were charmed by the personality of the place. I had higher expectations for a French cook. The menu was not very French as I expected. However I was surprisongly pleasant to discover that place close to the hotel were we stayed ( Waldorf Astoria) and where the food was not so good but SO expensive. Here instead not expensive, pleasant waitress lady and the table was in a little garden/patio we loved. Too bad it was closed when we returned next day to repeat the experience...it was a Saturday and they offer dinner only for the Saturdays.... Go there, it is woth the money. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but this restaurant is so awful and so expensive that I must save others from such a bad experience. Made a reservation weeks in advance asked for a quiet table. They sat us in the noisy, cramped bar. (Told us we could wait half an hour for another table. Sensed that service would be a problem from the get go and so we ordered right away. Alas, waited 30 minutes for drinks and over an hour for our meals. Asked to speak to the manager but no one came. To add insult to injury, the food came out cold and tasted no better than decent airplane food, the kind of meal that sticks with you the next day like a lump in your stomach. When someone, not the manager, finally came over and asked what they could do, we suggested they comp our meal. She agreed, but when the bill came, they hadn't done that. All this and $45 entrees? No thanks. Stay away from this place. They don't deserve your hard earned money. read more

We are locals and have lived here for 15 years and Alexander's is the best restaurant in town. The owner Alexander is the chef. The food is always consistantly good. We have never been disappointed in a meal. Locals come here as well as the lucky tourists that find out about it. Patronized by doctors and other professionals in town. - classically prepared dishes... yummy; nice courtyard seating available. For many years Alexander's has long been one of our 'go to' restaurants. It's one of those extremely reliable establishments that always delivers good service & excellent food. It was no different on our most recent visit. We went with some Snowbird friends of ours from Cincinnati, T. & C. M. They have a lovely little outdoor courtyard that was packed so we had to sit inside. The server we had has been at Alexander's forever; I'm sorry that I can't recall his name - he's the one with the thick mustache. Our experience has been that the same staff has been there for a long time & they are very efficient. Although they have a bar, they only serve wine & beer. Three of us enjoyed appetizers. C. & R. had the house salad that comes with the entree. The house dressing is a balsamic vinaigrette which R. had. C. requested a different dressing that she noticed on another salad. It was a vanilla bean vinaigrette which she loved. It has a light & intriguing flavor. I decided to try one of their starters instead, the wild mushroom & goat cheese strudel. It was a small portion but it was outstanding. I highly recommend it. On to the main course! R. was predictable because he ordered one that he almost always gets there - macadamia nut crusted grouper. It did not disappoint. Once again R. savored every bite. T. ordered the pan seared dry pack scallops. He declared them to be good; specifically very tender & juicy. It came with a cauliflower puree. At first he thought it was mashed potatoes. For those of us who avoid carbs, we've known this wonderful little secret about mashing cauliflowers for some time. It's a great substitute for the real thing. C. had the yellowtail snapper, a local fish. She thought that the fish was very good but perhaps it was slightly overcooked. That dish came with scalloped potatoes which she really enjoyed. Finally, I had the blackberry Canadian elk strip loin. This is a new feature on their menu. Yay! I usually get this dish when we're out West so it was a pleasant surprise to find it on the menu. It was not the best I've ever had but it was very good, tender & not gamey at all. This came with a sweet potato croquette that was special - crunchy on the outside & sweet & soft on the inside. Sadly, we abstained, as per usual, from the desserts. I suggest that you put this little gem on your 'go to' list, as well. Some other tidbits to know: they do cooking classes, they have a cookbook featuring their own dishes & they make to-die-for macaroons. Addendum: 2013 This is still one of our 'go-to' places. We always have superb food & great service. They have enlarged the outdoor seating. This area is in a courtyard in the center of the buildings & is so much nicer than sitting alongside a road. It was a very rainy night and we were on the patio. We stayed nicely dry, but the staff got pretty wet. Never mind, this was a lovely evening and our meal was excellent. Our entrees included the duck, the featured fish dish and the seared tuna. We began with mussels and the crispy duck lettuce wraps. The mussels are the best in Naples. From start to finish every aspect of our meal was of top quality which was hard to pull off in the pouring rain. In the Naples area, we have tried just about all restaurants that are aspiring to be French. I have only given five stars to Alexander's and Bleu Provence. read more

We've gone to Alexander's for years. Went there tonight and the snooty greeter turned us away saying they had no tables, when in fact they were at most half full. We think it's because we weren't dressed in old person blazers. Unfortunate that a great restaurant has gone down the tubes. We'll instead go to any one of the dozens of excellent restaurants within a mile of their location. Sad. read more

This was our first visit to Alexander's and we've been here in Naples many years. Big mistake! The outdoor garden/patio is lovely, the food and wine were excellent, and the wait staff terrific. This is a consistently fine restaurant. We stumbled on an early bird dinner last night as we had a date for a movie. It offered a nice selection of food, a glass of wine and a too sweet dessert (no choice on dessert) for about $20. My flatiron steak was tasty. The others in our group enjoyed their horseradish coated salmon and pork tenderloin too. Service is good. Too often I wonder why restaurants offer early birds and then serve dog food. Quiet and professionally attended, I don't know what else you can ask for. Strongly recommend dining outside where the garden is romantic and well maintained. Ate at Alexander's yesterday. Food was good but TERRIBLE service. Slow, and a waiter who had a terrible personality. He obviously hates his job and doesn't attempt to hide it. Worst waiter I have ever had. It is sad, as I will not go back and the food and atmosphere were both good, but if at is e type of service then no thanks! This was our second visit to Alexander's, and unlike our first visit, it was raining and the outside seating was unavailable - which is truly unfortunate, as we had last visited on Valentine's Day and sat outside by the lovely, lighted trees in the courtyard, and had a beautiful, romantic evening with excellent food and service. This time though, sitting inside, the room felt a bit crowded, and the service certainly was not as prompt or attentive as before. The food was good, and I am sure had I picked other items it would have been excellent but my 'chop tuna' appetizer, raw tuna with avocado and a soy dressing, was too thick - both the tuna chunks in terms of size and the consistency of the dressing, and my crispy duck entrée, while cooked and plated nicely, was just too rich for me with a thick wine reduction sauce. My wife's snapper was delicious, although her Caesar salad was also a bit on the 'heavy' side with the parmesan cheese and dressing. Wine list is fine but just average, but the wine we selected was lovely, and the before dinner drinks well prepared. The desert list did not appeal to us, however, so we skipped that course. My advice is to go on a clear day so that you can sit outside and experience the romantic and special atmosphere the restaurant definitely can offer. read more

Had Xmas eve dinner last nite and the service was one of the worst I've ever experienced...surly waiter who took at least 1 1/2 hours to get our entree served.. At one point we were told by a bus person they had no more bread...waiter finally served our food after apparently going out for a cigarette break, because the smell of smoke on him was disgusting...appetizer portions were very small...extremely long wait between courses..more than 1/2hour....do not recommend at all read more

So, chef owner? Usually doesn't get better than that, and they didn't disappoint. It was our first time there after a referral from a friend and it was all he said it was. My bother was Executive Chef at Tavern on the Green in NYC and a number of other high end NYC restaurants so I know food pretty well. I could immediately tell from the style of menu choices, that we were in for a great meal. Anna our server was wonderful. Attentive without being overbearing. Great sense of humor too! All our plates were presented beautifully, and cooked to chefs recommendation on temperature. The special Buffalo rib eye was perfect! Grouper the freshest. Highly recommend it. It was our first time here. We went for our Anniversary. There was nothing offered to us for our Anniversary. Every place we've gone on our Anniversary or birthday you get some kind of a dessert. With all the trouble we had it might have helped a bit. The servers were nice, not outstanding. Our food was brought out in an incorrect order from what we'd agreed on with the waitress. Two people brought things out and then both came and apologized for the mix up. We sent the lobster bisque back, it looked like gravy not bisque and didn't taste good at all, we've had much better many other places. The salads and the mussels were good. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail didn't seem real fresh and were chewy. The miso sea bass was by far the best thing, only excellent thing we ordered. My filet was more than medium cooked as I had ordered and had a funny flavor, maybe a bit old? But not too bad, I ate it and didn't say anything. A baby cockroach crawled on the table in front of my husband. Overall we were disappointed since we've heard a lot of good things about it. The best thing is the patio, people love it and it is pretty. We sat inside at a nice table for two right by the window overlooking it. We won't be returning, too many other really great restaurants in Naples. read more
