I have a complaint about my experience in regards to restaurant; Alder & Ash. I was excited to go to Alder and Ash as part of restaurant week. I made reservations through Open Table for Saturday, April 20. Pretty disappointed to make the way downtown on a Saturday night, be seated, and then be told after I asked, that they don't honor restaurant week on Saturdays. The dates they advertise on their website and menu says April 14-25. I later found out there was a small mention on their website, but it was buried under "Learn More" in a second paragraph. My partner and I got up and left, and I called and talked to their manager on duty; Lisa. She acted like it was my fault for not reading the fine print. Further, another restaurant manager, Warren, replied to my bad review that I left, but again, blamed me. If a restaurant is going to stray from the norm of what Seattle Restaurant Week is offering, and what their restaurant peers are offering, they have an obligation to make sure it is extremely clear. They can do this by putting it upfront, rather than buried in a second paragraph on a "learn more" page (and also highlighting it), make sure the dates align with the dates they are actually offering the deal April 14-18, 21-25 (not April 14-25), and putting it in multiple spots, like on the menu, which is what most people look at. Another nice touch would be to state in the confirmation email that I got for the reservation that they are not participating in Seattle Restaurant Week on that particular date. I didn't even think to read through their two paragraphs under "learn more" because I wasn't even expecting they would stray from the norm. Why would I? I honestly don't know why Seattle Restaurant Week would even allow them to participate with these conditions. The burden should not be on the customer to understand the terms and conditions when it is different from typical. That burden is on the restaurant. All replies from the restaurant thus far have been unacceptable because they blame me. Finally, this felt purposeful. Once the restaurant gets me there, they figure I won't leave or maybe they figure I'll order one of their overpriced drinks. I did neither and the deceptive marketing tactics are wrong. read more

This place is great; went on a Sunday evening for dinner and drinks. Pretty cool vibe inside and the bar looked nice from our table. Comfortable seating. Crazy high ceilings it seemed, felt very spacious. Service was phenomenal. Server gave a thorough rundown of recommendations and specials. Very attentive throughout meal. We had the Caviar Tots, the Pan Seared Salish Sea Halibut and the Braised Painted Hills Short Rib Rigatoni. Very generous serving of the main dishes. I longed for more Caviar Tots. We had a 5p reservation and the restaurant opened at 5. Our waiter, Isaac, was great. However, the menu was limited. My husband had the burger and the bun was stale. We ordered a $65 bottle of Cab Franc and it was lousy; flat, not what we are used to with Cab Franc. A later search showed it listed at $15 at Total Wine. We waited and waited for our dinner....our waiter knew we were attending an event close by that started at 7. We finally got our meal at 6:20. You can't deny how great this place is! The inside ambiance is very cute, it's ahit a modern but also fancy twist to it, you could come in jeans you could come in black dress attire, the bar booth area is my favorite. The restaurant has lots of space. The food was amazing, the steak to die for as well as their twist on the chimichuri sauce!!! Had a bit of a tang and I loved it!! The salad was flavor filled and well seasoned. we will be back!!! We decided to give this place one more try a few days ago. After our last experience, I had my doubts. Our server, Laurie, was absolutely amazing and very animated. I told her about our last experience, and she went out of her way to make our time here more pleasant. All the other servers were also sweet and friendly. I was very disappointed to find out that the bartender couldn't make his mocktail Keylime Pie because they stopped ordering the items that he needed. Apparently, the managers don't want him to make his drinks because they don't like it. Shouldn't it be what the customers like and are willing to pay for not what the "managers like and don't like"? I was really looking forward to having a few Keylime Pies. SMH! I was very satisfied with everything else, but also very disappointed that I couldn't get my drink. The restaurent was not that business Dec 7th but our waiter was no where to be found during our meal. The food was good but his lack of engagement was POOR and trying to get the bill was almost a hunt to find him, we wave down another waiter. The hummus and califlower appetizers were delicious. She sat some people before me and there was no greeting or smile--she seemed irritated. Then comes the service very poor, waiter never asked if we wanted drinks just went straight to ask what we wanted for dinner, no drinks, no appetizers, nothing. Had to tell him we wanted drinks first and we wanted to order an appetizer. I felt like it was because our grandson was with us, who is nicer and more polite than most adults. I watched our waiter go to multiple tables several times and never came to ours, I had to get his attention every time I wanted his service, he also tried to take our appetizer before we finished it and without even asking if we were done, tho hostess also tried taking it but did ask if we were done and there was still food on the plate, I felt like they were trying to get us out of there asap. Unfortunately the service was so bad and slow tables around us people sat after us and already left and more people were seated before we even got done with our meal, then came the ticket, I had to get up and find someone to get our ticket brought to us and it never came from our waiter we never saw him again. Stayed at the Grand Sheraton on a busy weekend. Decided to try the breakfast buffet. Restaurant seemed under staffed. Did not have a waiter/waitress the whole time help us and didn't even get plates changed out once for us. At the end of our meal a waiter had the nerve to ask us if we needed anything. Had to wait near end of my meal to even have them place clean glasses to get drinks or get a clean bowl. With that type of service you get charged an automatic 18% tip. Recommend getting breakfast outside the hotel since there are many places just in walking distance. read more

Came here with a group of 30 and the food did not disappoint! We had an area of the restaurant and the servers were just so great! The only down side was the events planner Desiree. I've never met an events planner who was more uncommunicative than her. Literally had to track her down after calling the restaurant multiple times. When she finally called me back it would take her two days to respond to my inquiries. I even called her the day off to make sure we had everything we had discussed squared away. Fortunately for her, the waiter who took care of us saved the night, I spoke to him 10 minutes, told him about the menu, drink limit etc and he handled it perfectly. Nothing spectacular about the cocktails. Food was bland. Large portions but who cares when it's boring. Would rather have a main dish that is memorable and leaves room for dessert than large portions, too much to eat, even if I found it appealing. Or perhaps that's why we couldn't finish it. Beautiful restaurant. We had a nice dinner, but there were a couple of hiccups. The soup of the day was a halibut chowder, but they brought my husband a tomato soup. They brought the correct soup later. I ordered a beet salad. The soup and beet salad were very generous portions. They could definitely give half the portion. We ordered the salmon, black cod and a side of broccolini. Our server forgot to put in the broccolini order so it came a little later. The food was very good as the fish was cooked perfectly. I was staying at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Seattle for a conference, and wanted something that I didn't have to walk too far for - so this place fit that bill well. The conference was a block away and it was after 6PM so people were out looking for a place to congregate and have drinks, as expected. The bar area was booked out for all the Azure MVPs, and the rest of the floor was packed with people. I could barely make out the Police, Play That Funky Music, the Eagles Already Gone, and some other tracks the boomers would love, underneath the roar of everyone talking in the place - it was driving my dB meter into the yellow. The wait staff were very nice and attentive, although I did have to wait a little bit to place my initial order. I hadn't eaten much that day so I ordered a few things - ahi tuna tartare, the French onion dip with house made kettle chips, truffle tagliatelle, and some glazed carrots. The ahi and the dip came out first. They were both served with kettle chips, a little oily for my liking. The dip was nothing special, I honestly should have waited to make my own at home. The ahi was just ok. I also felt like the tagliatelle had a weird consistency, and I wasn't sure if it was made fresh or not. The truffles in there were pretty good - subtly earthy. The carrots weren't really glazed more than they were just swimming in butter, but they tasted really good regardless - they had like an indianesque quality that reminded me of Yak and Yeti in San Diego. The pasta and the carrots were super rich and I couldn't finish either of them. Bottom line - I probably won't come back. The food was mediocre and overpriced. And I really wish I had brought earplugs. read more
