So I am a local electrician/ handyman and I spend a lot of time buying materials in hardware stores so I'm one contractor that has his eyes open for what's best for not only myself but my customers as well. This afternoon after completing some minor electrical work for a customer,the woman asked me if I could replace the 40 year old hose Bibb in the back of her house. Long story short this turned into a Hugh mess and I found myself at Alamo Hardware with an employee named Al and the manager himself working on this frozen part and the ace crew were 100% trying everything they sold in an attempt to resolve problem regardless of the fact I only needed a $2.00 washer. This place is so convenient, with tons of staff around to help guide you to the right area, provide advice on products and answer questions. For a pretty small sized hardware store, they almost always have what I need. I feel like when I go in here I can get honest advice I'd get from my dad. It's a pretty cool feeling. They have a huge section dedicated to gift store stuff and kitchen gadgets, as well as an outdoor garden center. Hidden in the back is another outdoor area with a ton of irrigation supplies, pipes, etc. Prices are pretty competitive with the big box stores like Home Depot. Maybe a tiny bit more, but for the convenience of a closer location it's worth it. Parking can be a little hectic when it's busy, but it's all right out front. read more

I went into the store to see how I could reinforce my weber grill knobs since two of mine had broken. The store manager, Keith, happen to walk by and asked me what I was looking for, and I told him I needed a way to reinforce my grill knobs. He said don't worry they are under warranty. He had new replacement knobs in the back room, no charge, and I was back to grilling with my Summit grill I purchased from this store several years ago, along with my Traeger BBQ a year later. I have been shopping this store ever since it replaced Yardbirds for my hardware store and BBQ/Grilling needs, it's convenient as heck for me being two miles from my home. This place is awesome! I came here with an old rusty Coleman lantern from the 50's with one screw that was rusted in so badly I couldn't get it out. Gavin and Flynn worked at it for an hour trying a variety of tools and methods to get it out before resorting to an extractor. Along the way they gave me a lot of tips to try for next time. This is the most helpful hardware store I have ever been to and I really appreciate how helpful everyone here is. And The Kitchen --- I have never seen a hardware store with if you're such a selection of kitchenware and cooking equipment. Seriously, if you are into bakeware you can get yourself into a LOT of trouble here ;=) Great place, worth a visit. read more

This is the most amazing store!! The Christmas shop has the most wonderful selection of home decor, candles and gift giving ideas. As soon as I stepped inside the door I found the most darling outdoor Christmas lights. The home decor and kitchen shop is always my year round go to place whenever I need the perfect gift or something new for myself. This location also has such a great selection of gifts for kids. I was there recently with a friend and it was hard to decide between all the darling plush for her grandchildren. If you haven't yet discovered this gem you're missing out!!! ACE in Alamo CA has an extremely helpful and knowledgeable salesman named BRUCE (Isle #12), who assisted me with measuring, selecting, and cutting PVC pipe to create the perfect perch for the vultures at the CA Raptor Center. All I had to do was measure the height, width/depth, length of the original perch I hoped to copy, drop off the measurements on my lunchbreak, and Bruce did the rest! I picked up the cut pieces, plus corresponding elbows and T-joints the same day! Because the intended use was to help education and ambassador animals, Bruce also provided a discount! Bruce could not have been more friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and enjoyable to work with! The vultures--Merry and Pippin--wanted Bruce to know how much they ADORE their matching perches! I find everything I need! Of course, outdoor decor is abundant but it is the treasures I find in The Kitchen and the attached children and home department that I can get lost in. To start, the prices were expensive. I recently moved into a new home with my amazing wife and two daughters & noticed two lightbulbs in our general-room were no 'working' despite my efforts to repair them. When I arrived at Ace Hardware I was greeted by a young-man, Gavin. He offered to help me find the items I needed. I showed the young-man my non-functional 'OSRAM 8029' lightbulb (picture attached below I found online). I was then lead upon a wild-goose chase to the light-bulb section of the store to find what I needed... The young-man tried his best to locate my exact model I required. He was unable to locate the model, despite this store being a 'hardware' store they did not have what I needed. The boy did however find me a "suitable" alternative, though the color-matching was noticeably much more yellow, very much not the "same"... Very poor experience with Alamo ace hardware last weekend. When a paid advertisement on google indicated that it was in stock, I drove all the way out from San Leandro to pick up a red wagon. Inquired to the product when we got there and they offered to order one, as the "in stock" item was the display and the manager wasn't willing to take the time to get it down for us. This lack of service is why in-person retail is dying. I was willing to spend $70 more for the item if I could get it today... instead I went home and got it the next day from Amazon without the nasty attitude and high price. If you're not willing to sell what's in store, why even have it listed as "in stock" or available for pickup that day?? read more

Someone (I can't remember the name, but he had a white beard and white hair) greeted me and asked me what I needed. He copied my key right away and I was out the door in 15 minutes. Welp, i placed an order on their website and i paid for it, got the confirmation and everything and then about an hour later i get two emails telling me my order had been canceled. Only no reason why, no information whatsoever. So i call the store and am greeted by a recorded message saying yes, they are indeed open. However after trying every extension on their phone tree, no one answered the phone and there was no opportunity to leave a voicemail. Is this what our local community hardware stores have come to these days? If i wanted a cold lack of customer service, i can turn to Amazon any day. Every time I come here I never have a problem getting help (unlike the big box stores). Today I had a project that required very small machine screws and acorn cap nuts. I didn't have much hope that such a specialty item could be found let alone finding it in the store even if they did carry it. I was helped by a kind gentleman named Bruce. Might as well be closed. Plenty of merchandise, but you can't get to it. Carts can't go in nursery, so you have to hand-carry everything. Line is 15+ people long, only one cashier. Had some real issues with the Christmas tree lot at Alamo Ace hardware this year. I wish that I could very honestly leave two reviews since the inside store is always a great place to shop so 5/5 for that, but the experience I had this year in the garden center tree lot was very poor compared to past years and is 100% deserving of being reviewed. They had a great selection of trees this year which all seemed very fresh (which was a huge plus), but honestly the whole experience otherwise was a bit of a let down. In the prior years that my family and I had come here everyone working seemed to be very knowledgeable about the trees and the lot was very clean and had a great atmosphere, this year however it couldn't have been any more different. The staff member helping us ended up taking about 30 minutes to tie our tree to the top of our car. 30 minutes would've been perfectly fine had the tree actually been tied on tight and correctly. Even with 2 lines over the top of the tree, (that were for some reason tied through the interior and around the interior column in our car??), the tree came very very close to rolling off on the way home. We ended up having to pull over and I redid the loosely tied lines that they threw on there. The guy helping us and his fellow staff members obviously had no idea what they were doing. Not a great feeling having the tree you just paid upwards of $100 hanging off the side of your car while you're driving through town. I'm not sure if we came on an off day or if their staff is really just this bad and inexperienced at helping with Christmas trees this year (maybe because of Covid?) but I would definitely steer clear of this place this year! Such a shame coming from a store that usually is so helpful and great at what they do. read more
