Bill the owner was sooo nice and helpful! He welcomed me to this community as I am new here. He even gave us this awesome Orinda hat that my husband loves! Another lovely woman whose name I think is Jane was also so friendly. She showed me around the beautiful store across the way that Bill also owns. Be sure to check out Across the Way - every item has a curated story of where it's from and how it's made. Jane took a lot of pride and time in explaining it to me! read more

Moraga Ace Hardware & Lumber - Orinda hat - thanks Bill! - Hardware Stores Near Me - Moraga, California

Great store because the people are great and knowledgeable. Many times, they've helped with ideas to help me complete DiY projects. A much superior shopping experience compared to the hardware store across the street read more

Bought some stuff there today. As usual, friendly, helpful staff. Wide selection of merchandise. Much better parking than Lafayette.

Wonderful spot. Owner is great and often frequents the place. Good about hiring local students. Clean, organized and well stocked. Highly recommend read more

This is just such a delightful store. It's not very big, but they have almost everything in there you could possibly want. The owner/manager trains his staff to be patient, knowledgeable and helpful. read more

I needed a paint sample matched and asked Susan to match it. She made my paint and It wasn't even close. I brought it back for her to fix and she had attitude and told me this is the last time I'm going to try and fix the paint. She added some color and again it wasn't even close. I threw the paint away. I took my sample to OSH and they matched it perfectly. Don't recommend ACE! read more

I went into the hardware store needing graphite powder for a lock. I asked at the counter where I can find it and Kye brought me to the aisle and pointed out exactly what I was looking for. He also checked me out he was very kind, polite and had a smile. Now, that I'm outside the store I see he is helping another customer look at barbecues. I certainly would recommend this hardware store read more

My boyfriend and I stop by here at least a couple times a month because it's close to his place, we both like supporting local businesses, and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. When it came time to upgrade his grill, my boyfriend wanted to patronize the Moraga Ace. He had spent a couple of weeks researching grills, and we went to several stores to look at their inventory. In the end, the grill we chose was not in stock at Moraga Ace, so the owner, Bill, worked with us directly to order the grill. He and his staff assembled and delivered the grill, then Bill gave us several tips on where to put the grill in the backyard and made sure that we were both comfortable connecting and disconnecting the propane tank, turning the propane on, and lighting the various burners. Then he gave us a few tips about how to grill different types of meats and veggies! He even threw in a complimentary long-handled grill brush. Later that weekend, we dropped in for some non-grill-related items and Bill made sure to greet us and ask how the new grill was working out for us. :) read more

The couple that runs this place are some of my favorite people in Moraga! So kind, funny, helpful and knowledgeable, going above and beyond if you have any questions. Giving real advice, showing you all the options and talking you through next steps of your project. The store may seem small but they have everything you need. They also own the store 'Across the Way' that is across the street with their more high end kitchen products. Also, the only place close that sells Benjamin Moore paint!! read more

Helpful, professional, good prices, hires and trains local youths. They are always friendly and the pies are to die for.

Had a great experience with Kai. The experience with the owner was a much different story! Asked about a veteran discount. He went off, lecturing me about veterans costing him profit. He'd "be out of business!" I don't think he realizes that without the sacrifices of veterans, he wouldn't have the freedoms to have his own business. This is my very first visit to this Ace, and absolutely my last. read more

Super friendly crew and lots of tiny good things that a hardware store should stock and this one still does.

Excellent personable helpful staff that is immediately responsive. It's my go to hardware store in Lamorinda.

Such a pleasure to come here because of the well organized store, surprisingly large stock and selection and most importantly, the wonderful staff! Also, the owner has always been great at having a few local students on staff. read more

Local hardware franchise run by a great family. Do they have it. Likely. Can they get it for you. They will try. Been going here on and off for all those little things you need for a house for the last two years and will continue. Today they delivered something that was too big for me to take, same day. At the time they said. read more

The staff is always so helpful to me. Helping me as soon as I enter the door. Today, Bill helped me troubleshoot my deadbolt not making contact with the strike plate. He gave me 3 possible solutions and of course the third one worked! Thanks Bill! read more

So my Son, who owns his own pools service stopped in to buy a small fuse and one of the young store employees was helping him select the correct one, when he was summoned by the old cashier (who turns out to be the owner) "Bill" told the worker that the customer with him was more important than helping my son saying. That he didn't need his help at all. The next thing you know "Bill" is yelling at the kid to get his ass up front and told my son to leave his store or else he will call the police! So here we go some old guy bossing young people around because he thinks he is more important that giving his premium customers a good experience. Maybe it's time to retire or learn how to treat all customers and employees no matter what age, color, race, sex or whatever hang up you have, WITH RESPECT! Thank you son for showing what kind of man you are even in difficult situations you make me so proud. And to the two young guys that my son offered a job to, give him a call. He is a hell of boss with a very bright future!! Good luck Bill. I hope you get this message. May God Bless you all. read more

Love, love, love my local hardware store! Purchased all the tools I need today---and then owner Bill Snyder even helped me install the batteries in my voice activated Elsa! Now where do you get service like that these days?? I always tell my handyman and contractors to go here first. Keep my dollars local and support local business and sales tax revenue here in Moraga. Moraga Ace Hardware & Lumber - voice activated Elsa now working! Now where else can you get great local service like that?? - Hardware Stores Near Me - Moraga, California

Bill Snider (the owner) had me before I walked into Moraga Hardware, with a Iowa Hawkeye (my alma mater) flag waving high and proud at the entrance. Then I found out that he's from Spencer Iowa (near where I grew up in NW Iowa) and a place I still return each Summer for Jesse Bogenrief's hand crafted glass. On top of that, he also graduated from the University of Iowa (as did my Dad, Uncle, and Brother), his daughter goes there, and their family once had a cabin on Lake Okoboji (near ours on Great Spirit Lake). As they say, coincidence is G-d's way of staying anonymous. I was actually at Moraga Hardware, as I was in the neighborhood and there were a few items that I needed for around the house. This is the type of neighborhood hardware store that I was raised on: family atmosphere, good non-box store selection and ambiance, and great service. OSH is nearby, but with this kind of karma, why would I? read more

I have been a fan of this store for over ten years. Yes, sometimes the lure of OSH inventory does ashamedly draw me in, but I'm quickly reminded by several uninterested, sometimes angry staff there that Bill's store is just across the street, and along with Across The Way takes care of 70-80% of everything - they will also order you anything if you are not in a rush. Nice, friendly, caring people. Good lumber, too! Just ask its in the back:) read more

Love this hardware store! Met Bill, the owner, the first time I went in. He was friendly and kind as are all of their employees. From the moment you walk in. the entire staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful. If one person doesn't have an answer, they ask another who does. If you're looking for something specific, they tell you exactly what aisle to go to and often walk there with you show you. If you go in frequently, the staff acknowledges how many weeks in a row they have had the pleasure of having you stop in. I think this store is worth going out of my way to go to. They are great! read more

Great little local store. Always helpful right when you walk in. If they don't have it, they'll get it for you

Always 5 stars....went early Sunday am to make a duplicate key...easy peasy lemon squeezy

Pretty much Richie Cunningham's dad's hardware store. Totally awesome proprietors who run a tight ship. Local kids work there and they are the only kids from Moraga I see in public who are narcissistic cell phone zombies. Please ship here. This store adds a lot to our community. read more

Well stocked and well run neighborhood hardware with a very friendly and most helpful staff . . . my new go-to hardware store, feels very good to shop here. I like to support local businesses, and will always come here first for whatever I need. Susan has given me great advice, and really knows her stuff. On the down side, every time I go in and the owner (Bill) is there, he's berating one the nice kids that work there, in a really nasty/humiliating way. It's very off-putting, and quite a contrast with the friendly neighborhood vibe of the store. read more

A+ customer service! I went in to only buy a plunger, and the owner and his son were so helpful in providing support in a non-intrusive way. They recommended which plunger in the best for a sink versus a toilet, and different helpful tips for addressing clogs yourself. I just moved to the area, and the amount of advice that I had received for the numerous home projects that have popped up has been so valuable, as you only get so much information from google - and sometimes you need that people interaction! I look forward to working with the staff on my other home projects! read more

Great service, great prices! Know their stock!!! And if they don't have it they'll order for you. Family business that supports Moraga

I'm not what you'd call a "handyman" and usually get intimidated by trips to the hardware store. This place has changed my whole outlook as they're super friendly and knowledgeable. I look forward to my fix-it projects now because I get to hang out at Moraga Ace! read more

Old school Friendly people, I enjoy shopping there , however they could work on some parts of their customer service. Definitely recommend. read more

Recommended several products for my sons Cub Scout pinewood derby race that were absolute junk, and not at all fit for the job! (One item, a dry non-graphite lubricant, I saw later one online reviewer say was "to be avoided at all costs"). What they said at the time was "this is what everybody uses." Well, that's interesting because nobody at our race used it. Look, big box stores and online merchants are cheaper and almost as easy to shop from. So if I go into a small, local hardware store at all, it's because I want good advice. If that advice isn't trustworthy, if its "buyer beware", then I might as well go across the street to OSH and save some money. read more

My husband and I just had a very bad experience with Moraga ACE Hardware. We have been patronizing this store for many years. We purchased an ACE product in February of this year. When we used it for the first time we found the product to be defective. We took the product back to the store as the warranty specifies and the female cashier on duty said it had been more than one month since the purchase and any warranty issue needs to go to Corporate. The ACE warranty clearly states and I quote, "The ACE Promise, If this ACE product, when used for its intended purpose, fails to give you complete satisfaction, return the item to the ACE Hardware store where purchased for free replacement of the same or similar item." That's exactly what we did. We had to do this in two trips because the owner of the store was not present at the time of the first attempt. So, we had to go back the next day. On the 2nd trip to the store, we met with the owner and tried to explain the situation and get a replacement of the product. The owner did not wish to communicate calmy and resolve the issue. He became very argumentative and started to accuse us of damaging the product. We tried to reason with him that we don't know who is responsible for the defect. Then he said "are you trying to tell me my business?" He turned a simple exchange of a product into a shouting match. Finally, we were given a similar product for replacement. The owner rudely told us to get of the store. He then told the female cashier not to let us in the store again. After our horrific experience with this ACE Hardware, we are not planning patronizing this store anymore. This is the worst experience of all the ACE stores I ever shopped at. Historically, in the past we had patronized this store and received less than welcoming experience. The reason we kept going back to the store despite the owner's bad attitude is that we feel it's important to support our local businesses. I would hope that in the future should anyone experiencing this type of customer service express their opinion without any fear of reprisal, so everyone will be treated equally especially in our local community. We don't take pleasure in this type of review. We always want to say we have the best customer experience. read more

We recently moved to the area and have visited a few times. Every experience has been fantastic, with some of the best customer service we've had in a long time! The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Someone is always available to assist, and we are always impressed with their recommendations and guidance. They've turned us into loyal customers after just a few visits. We are grateful to be so close to such a fantastic hardware store and eagerly await our next visit. read more

I absolutely love this hardware store. They make sure you are able to find what you need by asking every customer who walks in the door if he/she/they need help! It's one of those places that has everything that you need. This week I had my knives sharpened and I dropped them off in the morning and they were done by the afternoon. We moved to Moraga six months ago. After living in San Francisco for more than thirty years, I had become accustomed to perfunctory service at most places. Bill, Susan and their whole team, young and old, are terrific. Each of them goes the extra mile to provide personal service to everyone. It is a joy to see them, hear Bill wax on about some topic or another, and witness the maturation of his staff. Moraga Hardware is one of the highlights of Moraga life and a model for all retailers in Moraga and beyond about what can be possible in a neighborhood hardware store. Thank you Bill, Susan, Michael, Tucker, Sam and the rest of your team. read more
