I've visited this location twice in the past two days and had negative interactions both times with an employee named Lily. She was unhelpful, dismissive, and displayed a poor attitude -- not only toward customers but also toward her coworkers. That kind of environment is noticeable and reflects poorly on the store. Customer service is what separates Ace Hardware from larger chains. If management wants to remain competitive, additional training and oversight may be necessary. I would like to give a shout out to Lily (sp) at the Blackhawk Ace Hardware store. I have been looking for a cabinet drawer part that is rare and difficult to find. It took awhile, but not only did she locate it but also patiently worked with another store (not local) to hold the item for me. I come here quite often, today I met a new employee, his name is Bryan a young kid from Indonesia. I have to say he is the most polite, young man and a great image to represent this store. On Wednesday Oct. 15th 2025 at 8:45 am. I went to Black hawk ACE Hardware store to redeem my Senior Citizen gift certificate of $5.00 for my 75th Birthday. I made a purchased and accidentally hit the donation button! I advised the cashier that I hit the wrong entry. He called Will an employee stated he would not refund the donation! Will became irate and threatening to me. The assistant Manager came to the front and refunded the amount. Will walk towards the back of the store, while still threatening me in front of customers. The Assistant Manager told him several times to stop! he didn't I advised the a manger I would put this complaint on Yelp and report his behavior. The assistant threaten I will not allow you back in the store. Will needs anger management classes. I donate to my own specific charities. I've been doing bushiness with ACE for 20 years at this location. The amount of the refund was .50cents!! unfortunately I feel it was Senior Citizen discrimination!! All over .50cents!! CC... Sent client to Ace Hardware to buy shutoff valve with screenshot of valve needed (from Alamo Ace website) Sales associate states that they do not have matching part (website shows five in stock) and proceeds to hand client an incorrect shutoff valve to purchase. Now I have to return to Ace only to find five of the correct parts (with matching part numbers) on shelf. As I look around store I see employees leaning on counters chatting it up. Awesome place. I've been here about 100 times over the last 4-5 years. Every time I walk in an employee makes eye contact with me and asks if they can help me find something. For those customers that have an issue with returning, just get the correct item in the quantity you need in the first place. Really great service! I came in to find some nuts and bolts to repair my school band's timpani leg. A really nice employee named Johnny helped me find, and gave me suggestions, on the correct sizes for the nuts, the bolts and the washers. We spent a good 30 minutes, but it worked out in the end! I've been going to this Ace store since they opened - surely over 100 trips by now. I'm so grateful to have such a store located nearby. They have an excellent selection of items. I especially like the vast amount of miscellaneous bins of hard to find part, clearly labelled items - great for creative fix-it projects. There are usually helpful floor people around. If they can't help, there is always a senior person, or even the owner, available to solve most anything. They can also order special parts if needed. I had an ADU built last year and the construction teams often simply had to go 'just down the street' to get parts, rather than a costly round trip over to the 680 corridor. It's good to support local small businesses. Don't take them for granted. read more

Management needs to puts signs up to warn customers that not all items can be returned at all affiliated locations. I purchased a few items at the crow canyon location while running errands, ended up not needing all items. Took items back to the Blackhawk location to return as it is the closest to my house, only 2 items were able to be returned at this Location. I was informed I would need to make an additional trip as the item was not in there system and could not be add back in (even though it is an item they used to carry). They need to update their policy to inform customers of this!! read more

Absolutely rude and racist employee/supervisor named Philip. I simply asked the cashier if they do price match (by the way difference was around 5 dollars so not that big of a deal, but I had thought to inquire anyway) who called him to check. He came to inform me that Ace doesn't price match. I acknowledged and made a comment about it probably being a store based policy as Ace stores are locally owned. He got very upset and told me to leave the store. I was confused and asked him why would he talk like that to a customer. Apparently I had hurt his ego by correcting him. I tried explaining how corporate owned vs locally owned stores work and reiterated he shouldn't behave like that with customers who want to support local businesses. He got visibly upset and mistook my honest attempt to educate this young kid as a challenge to his authority. I was about to pay but decided to leave instead as he started acting very aggressive and moving close to me (I was with my 9 year old daughter and didn't feel comfortable with his escalation attempt). I truly believe that there was a racist undertone to his demeanor as he could not accept a non white person questioning his authority/knowledge. I feel very sad for him and for our lovely local community. At very least he needs to be better trained, or may be moved to some non customer facing role. read more

Went to Ace today to see if they were still honoring the buy $50 get $10 gift card special. The cashier had to ask another worker to call and verify. They honored it even though it was no longer in their ad, but I had the mobile ad that said until the 29th. When I got home I realized the $10 gift card was not activated. I went back and the lady that sold us the card had to call customer service again to verify what was going on. I was in the store over 30 minutes while she got the turn around from customer service having to call more than 3 phone numbers. Their company phones weren't working so she was using their cell. I didn't mind shopping around while I waited for her to handle it. Other workers asked if I needed help with anything, which of course is nice. I heard the worker yelling at the customer service line saying this is unacceptable and she has a customer waiting and she keeps getting sent in circles. Eventually she offered to buy me a $10 gift card from her own pocket. For this, the store still gets 5 stars for their customer service even though I wasted about an hour today have to drive back and forth. Thank you Sherri. read more

Shoutout to Sonny! We were trying to get the right size Allen wrench for our tv mount bracket. We had to make a couple trips but we ended up with what we needed. Everyone at Ace Hardware are so friendly and helpful! Every time we go here, everyone's so kind. We needed a product and I called them to double check and the staff member put it on hold for me at the front counter. He even put another product at front so I had 2 brands to choose from. So nice!!! I think his name was Sonny!? It was perfect and quick when I went in. They also have pick-up where you can order online and pick up your items. Super easy and convenient. I've had multiple bad experiences at this ace hardware. I went in to buy some spray paint and was told by one of the female cashiers, the one with the short brown hair, that I was not allowed to purchase spray paint. I asked why not and she told me that I was not old enough. She didn't ask for my I.D. at all, she just straight up said I wasn't old enough. I then told her that I was 22 years old. She then asked for my I.D., so I gave it to her. I then asked her if she was trained to look at people and judge then on if she thinks they are old enough just by their looks to buy something. And she said no. I then told her that I highly suggest she does what she's trained to do. My second bad experience was I had one of the employees, the one with the silver ish gray ish hair, I believe his name is Matt, raise his voice at me. I went in to make a return and then proceed to look around the store for the correct item I needed. And Sheryl (i believe is her name) was very helpful and when I asked her a question, Matt the proceed to answer for Sheryl by yelling at my with a bad attitude. Apparently he doesn't like doing returns since he was one of the employees that had to handle my return. I do not recommend shopping at this Ace Hardware. I feel more comfortable shopping at the Ace Hardware in Alamo, Ca or driving 20 minutes out of the way to The Home Depot for something I need to purchase. read more

Since I've lived here in the Blackhawk/ Danville area, I have gone to Ace Hardware multiple times. On several occasions I was charged for something I didn't purchase. This is a bit disconcerting to me as it appears to have created a pattern. I'm not sure if this is intentional or was purely a mistake. But I just wanted to put it out there. Otherwise, the cashiers are kind of dry and not seemingly very helpful. On the other hand, the workers in the "back" or in the isles have been very helpful. I have been a customer of Ace hardware for years and they have ALWAYS honored expired coupons. This location refused to honor the coupons they mailed to us HERE IN DANVILLE. That's why I'm going to home Depot. They even agreed to PRICE MATCH AMAZON!! Which means Ill be saving more than the measly $5.00 coupon that the manager refused to take. I walked in today and asked the cashier Jenn (I believe) where is the key stand as I had to make a key. She pointed in the middle of the store and said that way. I thought ok I'll find it. It was very close by. I was standing there for about 5 min waiting for someone to make a copy of my key. Nobody came so I asked the ladies up front if they can call somebody and finally a guy came in and made me 2 keys. When I was checking out Jenn was not friendly and looked pissed. I told her my phone number but realized she put it in wrong because it showed somebody else. I told her to just scan my ACE rewards card.
