Pretty tasty food. Ordered the katsu don and the lunch special rolls. The ambiance was nice as well.

Sarah C.

Reasonably priced sushi for good quality. I got a combo deal of salmon, tuna, California rolls and my friend got a hand roll and scallop roll and we both enjoyed. The appetizer was a highlight. There's a back patio space. Walked in on a Saturday evening with no wait!

Uni sushi on the left, ikura sushi on the right

Genna G.

This place has always been solid, consistent and convenient (right off the L). And after many many years, that's never changes. Something I love is that they do the specifics well. So the ikura and uni are fantastic without overcharging. The staff is attentive, and the vibe of the place is casual, welcoming, perfect for a solo meal, friend meetup, or date night. With Lu. J I get the pot of green tea. With dinner- the hot sake. It's not high end but it certainly scratches that sushi itch!

Salmon Avocado Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll

The restaurant is really cute! We came around 6:30pm on a weekday and were seated instantly. There is lots of indoor seating and patio seating (with a ceiling) and the ambiance is great! The bathroom is also clean. The sushi came out pretty quickly and tasted delicious! Prices are fairly reasonable.

Spicy Tuna Roll and Lobster Rock and Roll

Sacheen V.

Sat in their outdoor area this time here. So beautiful and peaceful. Food was delicious and my drinks were on point. Service was great! Water never empty and glass always full. Happy to have been able to come back

Harris L.

We stopped by Ako for a quick lunch and had: - Sushi Lunch: $16; $17.42 with tax - Toro Dynasty Roll: $20; $21.78 with tax Both dishes were underwhelming. The Toro Dynasty Roll only had sriracha mayo to add a dimension of flavor. Suggested tips are based on pre-tax subtotals and start at 20%, which is a bit high since there wasn't complementary tea. Overall, it feels like better options are available elsewhere.

JiHae L.

What great service that they have here. Every time our water was low, it was filled to the top. Pretty good. The waiters came by frequently to attend to whatever it might be. However, I doubt that you need to make reservations as there's plenty of seating in the back space or in the main dining area. Food wise, I ordered the spicy seafood soup, which was alright. It's only for one person, as it's not a huge serving.the Golden Dragon roll was pretty good as the mango taste stood out. The classic roll combo was all of the items that sushi places all have. The matcha tiramisu tasted great as it's a combination of both desserts that I enjoy.

Steve B.

Very nice Japanese restaurant. We had bento boxes for lunch , everything was fresh and tasty. Fair price , would return.

Sarah R.

No frills, but solid sushi spot. Service was quick and friendly, and they never miss out on the details. Had some sushi pieces a la carte as well as some rolls. Also tried an order of the rock shrimp appetizer which came with a creamy spicy mayo sauce. Only thing is their outdoor seating smelled a bit funky.. granted we are outdoors but maybe it should be a little bit more well kept?

Chirashi. Good select of fish, pickles etc that varies with the season.

Emma P.

Ako is a great spot for inexpensive sushi and lunch sets slap bang in the middle of Bedford Avenue not far from the subway. I first came here by default when the restaurant I was planning on going to was closed and I've now been back many times. The room is pleasant with well spaced tables and there's a great seating area out back in the garden. The servers are friendly. The lunch sets are great value, they have a few types to choose from, not just the standard bentos and the portions are generous. There's a good variety of fish available and it's well prepared, rice is good too. Love it for a quick lunch!

Reggie M.

We came here one rainy Sunday afternoon, thankfully their backyard area is covered with a transparent roof and we were able to hear and see the raindrops, we found it whimsical! Since I have not had a bento box in months, I ordered it to see what is their take on it. I selected salmon teriyaki bento. They first served a veggie salad with ginger dressing followed by miso soup. The bento box came with 4 pieces of California roll, 2 pieces of fried siomai, white rice, and salmon teriyaki on a bed of mixed greens. I thought the serving was generous for $13, and it didn't compromise the quality nor the taste. On our way out, I told our server that we will come back next weekend. With great customer service and price points, who wouldn't?!

cute place with good sushi and very friendly servers!! really enjoyed my dessert!! the bathroom had paper towels too which i liked :)

Stumbled upon this place while in the area and craving sushi with my friend. Sat right near the street and had one of there dinner sushi plates for 1. Totally delicious and worth the cost! You get a good amount of food for about 20 bucks (which includes soup/salad for only a buck more). If in the area, i suggest stopping by. You won't be disappointed. It's not the best sushi in the world, but it isn't the worst and if you're not a sushi enthusiast, you'll enjoy it just the same. read more

I am shocked everytime I place an order to pickup. They literally have all my food ready under 10 minutes! I honestly dont know how they do it. The sushi is fresh, and good for the price. Its a great place for a quick meal. I will continue ordering from here. The volcano roll is awesome, however if you like shrimp tempura rolls, don't get them from here. I know you are wondering how they can mess that roll up, but they only put the shrimp in the roll (nothing else). read more

AKO is pretty convenient. I'm in the neighborhood and go there often when I'm craving sushi. The atmosphere and service is always good. They used to be BYOB, but now have an alcohol menu. The food is okay, and it's always okay...at least its consistent. I've never had anything that was terrible, but I've never had an omg-my-mind-is-blown there either. If you're craving decent sushi, and you are close by...go for it. But I'd say don't go out of your way. read more

Williamsburg does have a great variety of food options but great sushi is not one of them. There are a lot of average sushi places but no where really to splurge on fantastic fish (yes there is 1 or 8 which is overpriced) But amongst the average sushi places (samurai, miyako, fushimi, wasabi, bozu, mizu) Ako definitely has the best and freshest fish. They don't pile on the sushi like other places and they definitely are a tas more pricey , but it's worth it. I pretty much only order from ako if I'm in the mood for local sushi. They also do seamless.com which is convenient. read more

The sushi quality was sub-par. Went for lunch on a Monday for some sashimi, assuming that they would've gotten a "fresh" delivery of fish in earlier that day. The sashimi tasted extra fishy, which normally means that it's old. Good selection of inventive maki rolls + cooked food. read more

Avoid. They have great lunch deals, unfortunately my lunch deal included a fruitfly that flew out from between the layered pieces of aged-looking ginger. Then I bit into a piece of salmon avocado that tasted moldy, and I had to spit it out. At that point, I threw out half of my $13.00 lunch, and I'm now hoping I don't come down with food poisoning. read more

Reliable delivery sushi. Always fresh and unique house special rolls. Delivery arrives still fresh and promptly. Service in the restaurant is just ok. They're nice enough but it actually seems like they're quicker if you order delivery than if you go in and get takeout. It's fine to sit in but there are def nicer sushi spots in the burg if you're looking for a nice night out. The food itself-all of their standard rolls are above average. The ako wasabi special roll is yummy, perfect blend of fish, veggies, and caviar on the outside. If you want to go fancy try the tuna love, encore tuna, spicy girl, or four season. read more

Ako is not your typical shitty Japanese food place. The lunch prices are super cheap and you get a lot of good quality food for $11. They have a sweet backyard so it's really nice in the Spring/Summer. I usually get the beef teriyaki bento box. So good. They give you a lot and cook the beef medium to well done. You can also replace the california roll with another roll for 2 extra dollars. Miso soup compliments the bento very nicely. Their service in the restaurant is slow, but in general, their customer service is amazing! I recently just ordered takeout and got an allergic reaction to something in the food (I've gotten the same meal before) so I gave them a call. They sorted it out very nicely and even came to my front door for a reimbursement! read more

The Highlights: * Polpo (Octopus): This was the standout for me. The octopus was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of saltiness and it paired beautifully with the creamy potatoes underneath. A very well-balanced dish. * Salad: Sometimes simple is best. The greens were incredibly fresh and the dressing was light and balanced--not overpowering at all. * Classic Tomato Spaghetti: You can always judge an Italian place by its red sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, staying true to the traditional Italian style. It was simple, fresh and deeply satisfying. * Chicken Dish: The chicken was surprisingly tender and juicy. We ordered a bit of everything from the entire menu and really enjoyed them all but highlights for us were the creamy dreamy beef tartare, the slightly briney white anchovies, frizzled artichoke hearts, and tempura cod w/ a sun choke puree. Of course the Iberico ham was also steller. Great place for an intimate date night or for a group too. We will definitely be back.

While the chef selects which tapas come out, they were able to accommodate our request for two specific tapas which was nice. The paella was a generous portion for two. We loved the octopus and iberico, but honestly, all the tapas were delicious! The only downside during our stay is we had a reservation but we came right after the World Cup game had ended. So there was only one available table for us which was crammed in a corner. It was also very busy, so service was a bit slow that day.

If what I experienced at Falansai is any indication, we've really been sleeping on a winning combo. (Maybe it shouldn't surprise me, since both use a lot of pork, cilantro, lime, rice and chili.) Falansaj has an incredible tasting menu (Dac Biet) and a well-curated wine selection, both of which are well portioned and reasonably priced. The fusion also didn't really make sense - most of the dishes tasted either Vietnamese or Mexican and not really a mix of the two. Everything came with a tray of salsa verde, ginger hot sauce, salsa macha, and pickled onions and jalapenos to top with. The small plates were mild in flavor and needed the toppings. Costra tacos - a bit odd, not my favorite. They were pretty sweet due to the squash, but were better with a bit of salsa matcha. End of summer vegetables - corn, enormous pieces of kale, carrots, and a few other veggies I couldn't place in a coconut curry type broth. Mild in flavor, and would have been a nice side dish but ended up being too similar to the curry. Red curry - a variety of vegetables in a Thai red curry type sauce, served with rice on the side. The fried turnip cake option has a block of turnip cake which is soft almost like mashed potatoes on the inside and lightly crisp on the outside. My partner seemed to like the carnitas plate, but felt the rice was unnecessary. I felt there were good flavors in the main course, and the portions in the curry and vegetables were pretty large. But the vegetable dish was too similar to the curry, and the costra tacos didn't quite land for me. The cost worked out to $145, which is fairly expensive.

+4 Stars for the Food -2 Star for the Service I come here quite frequently when I want an average, casual sushi meal as AKO is the best "neighborhood" sushi place that delivers. Usually order the Toro Dynasty Roll, Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll and some Yellowtail sushi/sashimi. The food is solid, nothing special but good. Yesterday, I stopped in after a workout to grab a quick bite. I ordered the above and was brought tuna sushi instead of yellowtail. When I informed the waitress (above average height, thin asian girl with black plastic glasses) she told me rudely that I had ordered tuna sushi. I politely told her "No I ordered yellowtail" (I never order tuna sushi as I dont like the taste of tuna on its own). She jerked the plate and made an "ughh" noise. I responded, "nevermind I'll just keep it" Mind you, I am not difficult to please and understand mistakes happen- however, don't blame me for your mistake and then give attitude. If Ako management reads this, they need to tell their staff, especially this waitress the importance of guest service. Not acceptable. read more

OK.... so I came into this place with my husband one day and we were extremely disappointed with the service we had. We came in one day after work for some sushi and we were upset to overhear the waitresses speak under their breathe and in Chinese to charge us service charge because they wanted FORCED tips. They think we dont understand what they are saying, like i learned and studied different languages in college so i know what you are saying. Like no sweetie, I give tip for good service and when we tried to call one of the girls after viewing the check and ask them why we were being charged the service if it was only two people being served, they tried to be slick and ignore us but then one of the girls said "Oh no you don't need to pay the amount that is in BOLD, you can pay the amount that is printed in SMALL" I wonder how many other customers they robbed by having them pay for the service. I have lived in Billyburg for almost 5 years. I have seen Sushi places come and go. Ako actually opened just about 2 months ago - i have been to this places many time and find it to be the best in Williamsburg. the food is fresh and Delicious (not only the sushi, but the sauces they have are yum yum!) The food decoration is a little wild, but it add much charter to the place - people who say "pay more attention to the food" are a little clueless - food presentation IS important, especially when the food is good. The staff is extremely friendly and does a good job making you think you are the only on that matter in their restaurant. I would highly recommend this place to others. (not only dinner - their lunch special is cheap and very good!) If you are not 100% sure where to get sushi in Williamsburg, go check them out, you will not be disappointed. Bon appetite M read more

Had an amazing experience at Ako! The sushi was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Everything tasted high-quality, and the atmosphere was great. There was this Asian teenager named Steven who was working as a waiter/busser, and he was absolutely amazing. He greeted us very politely, brought us water right away, and was extremely attentive and respectful throughout our visit. He was very hardworking, professional, and funny, while still making sure everything was taken care of. Now, this does not come from a place of hate but solely an observation of sheer absence of the art of hospitality. My boyfriend and I were sat in the last two seats of the bar by the kitchen window, next to the door and the restrooms. In any establishment, this area of the house is most likely the least desirable. Tonight's waitstaff made sure to live up to that expectation, which they most certainly did not do intentionally...however there was zero interest in making our experience (let alone anyone else's) something special. Needless to say it was memorable, but not in a positive way, not in the slightest. Our experience was filled with the clanking of dishes, haste, theatrics of stacking wasabi, ginger, and edamame all the way up a servers arm. Though his efforts of balancing these dishes could be seen in his eyes as talent, they emitted nothing but idiocy. The noise of customer chatter is one thing but stomping, running (frequently), and yelling by the waitstaff is simply obnoxious. Although our meal met our standards of what we expected from a Nozawa restaurant, the staff needs a stern reminder that dining experiences begin and end with the person curating that experience. Our food was delicious, but the atmosphere of the restaurant resulted in us grabbing our check and departing before our last course made it to the table. Hats off to the staff of SUGARFISH Williamsburg for providing an incredible example of extremely poor hospitality.
