I was visiting my parents this past weekend. I've been to the Woodinville location and they opened this Mill Creek location not too long ago. Small place but in a really nice complex! Similar to Kizuki, however they have donburi dishes and stir fry noodles! The calamari was crispy and juicy. Thought there would be more of it tbh. I had the shio ramen which was great on a cold night! Our server was really nice and hospitable and made sure we had everything. Very good ramen spot in Mill Creek/Silver Firs. There really aren't any other ramen places in this specific area, so the addition of them to the neighborhood is more than welcome. If you live in silver firs and work from home, it's so nice having a lunch spot where you can grab a hot bowl of ramen so close. It's a smaller joint but I can't imagine it being an issue for this area. We walked in and say straight down no wait. The server was very kind and fast. Broth was good tho I wish it was a little creamier. Egg cooked perfectly. Wish the meat was a little softer too, but again just being picky here. Akane was today's stop on my boyfriend and I's quest to find the best restaurant in Mill Creek. We walked in at around 3:30 and were seated right away. Our server was very kind and attentive. The space is small, but bright and modern. The food, however, was just okay. As big ramen fans, we were a bit disappointed in the quality of the broth and noodles for the price. The soft boiled eggs were delicious, and the pork was flavorful, but just not my favorite bowl of ramen. In short Beautifully decorated, low-key, and welcoming. Great ramen and a few apps. In long I've been meaning to try this place for quite a while now, and finally made it in on a random, cold night. They're in a small strip mall on a busy 5-lane road, surround by a surprising concentration of interesting and worthy spots. The lot is tight but there's plenty of parking, especially in this corner--the big store next door closes around dinner time I think. Inside, there are a couple rows of tidy little tables, and some cool custom lighting built into the walls. They have big flatscreens, probably tuned to the game. Service is pleasant and unobtrusive, and right on point throughout. They're at your table immediately, and I almost had to call the guy back to finish ordering. They really move here! The takoyaki is legit, very flavorful. Tons and tons of bonito on top. A couple bites of tako were a bit on the chewy side but not unpleasantly so. I happily gobbled up every bite. I had the garlic miso ramen, bumped up to Hot on the spicy scale. It had great flavor but I wouldn't call it hot. Just a nice little tingle, at least for me. Nice toothsome noodles, good comforting broth, and a few nice add-ins. Prices are very fair here. Went there for the 1st time & ordered the spicy ramen & calamari. The Ramen was excellent and the spicy in the name lived up to what I'd expect. I wouldn't order the calamari again. Calamari has to be cooked to just the right temperature or it gets very rubbery and instead of being lightly browned it was very dark and had the texture of hard rubber. My husband and I love Akane. In fact we're regular customers. We love their food and the atmosphere. I usually order the Garlic Miso medium spicy and switch the Shoyu (pork) to chicken. There's nothing wrong with Shoyu I just prefer chicken and I love garlic Miso. My husband has had a lot of things off the menu- ramen and other offerings- and hasn't complained yet. We originally wanted to go to Kizuki ramen but wanted avoid the 405 traffic so tried out Akane. Pros: shrimp tempura appetizer was delicious. We arrived shortly after opening so the service was fairly efficient and it was quiet. Cons: the amount of pork is ridiculous. There were two tiny slices. Kizuki gives two giant pieces that fill the circumference of the bowl. All three of us got the same thing. Ramen was okay but again the amount of pork were 2 tiny pieces. I'm sorry to say the customer service was also lackluster. The guy was not outright rude but not very nice. I hope they can improve some of these aspects as this was an expensive lunch ($80 not including tip). read more

I keep my reviews simple. It takes a lot of effort to narrow your focus enough to do a small number of things excellently. Akane does exactly that. The menu isn't vast, but given how excellent the two dishes I had were, I am absolutely confident everything on the menu is at the same level. My wife, who takes cleanliness incredibly seriously, commented unprompted that the restaurant was beautifully decorated and immaculately clean without smelling like cleaning products, which is a feat in a small restaurant. But the food is the highlight. We ordered Tan Tan ramen and a Prawn Tempura rice bowl, both were incredible. Tan Tan was perfectly spicy without modification. First time in and there was ample seating, friendly staff, and a clean atmosphere. The Okonomiyaki was absolutely delicious, and an order would be great as a stand alone lighter lunch. Unfortunately, the vegetable ramen was very bland, but the Tonkotsu was a great hit the only note being that the egg was cold. For dessert the mochi was a decent portion and it's nice to have them served in halves, but they were a bit freezer burnt. I tried Akane Ramen for the first time in Millcreek. The ramen was just okay, but the okonomiyaki was good, though it did have a fly stuck to it. We let it slide since it was my sister's birthday and we didn't want to make a fuss. At the end of the meal, I asked if they had birthday cake, and they said no. I then asked if it was okay to bring my own cake (I had brought an Indonesian pancake from home and a plate to serve it). As we were leaving, a middle-aged white man--possibly the owner or manager--opened our cake bag without permission and claimed that someone in the kitchen saw on CCTV that we had taken their plate. I was excited to try this place after seeing all the great reviews. We ordered the chicken karaage, gyozas, and spicy garlic miso ramen. We found everything to be quite bland, especially the garlic miso ramen broth, which typically has really good depth of flavour. The chasu was more tough than we're used to and the egg was unseasoned. We did, however like how the karaage was lightly battered and the ramen ingredients otherwise tasted fresh. Our server forgot a number of items in our order and we had to ask for things multiple times despite the restaurant not being busy. Akane is a great addition to the neighborhood. In the crowded Asian inspired fast food, Akane, offers a great new choice. The inside of the restaurant is very nice for a strip mall, its modern, feeling a bit like Asian inspired Ikea design (that is a compliment). The menu stays true to its origin, ramen. Ordered for take away this weekend from Mill Creek as we love the Woodinville location and we were very disappointed. Our ramen was missing a few of the toppings and the egg was unseasoned. Both the spicy ramen and the Tonkotsu Shio Ramen did not taste of pork and were very fishy. Other than the overwhelming fish taste and smell, it was very bland and flavorless. We each had two of the tiniest "pieces" of chashu pork we've ever seen in a ramen bowl. I saved half the broth in the fridge and the next day it was still completely liquid; not thick or semi-solid as good ramen broth should be from the collagen in the bones. It was almost like we got something different than we ordered. The gyoza and the chicken stir fry were good and the fried spring roll was very good, but nowhere near worth the trip (18 mins for us) or the cost. Been eating (instant)ramen pretty much all my life. Then when ramen became more "mainstream" and not just a cheap instant meal for the college undergrad and/or those of us living paycheck to paycheck (both of which I've been), it's gotten more recognized, appreciated and now is right up there with Pho. While I admit my only ramen experience has been of Maruchan, Nissin Cup Noodles, or Top Ramen variety, I've have been wanting to visit an actual Ramen house. Our first opportunity came when one opened up in our neck of the woods at the Farm in Mill Creek. Needles to say we were very excited to finally give one a try. Going for a late Saturday lunch, our first impression of the establishment was nice and clean, not too fancy, not super casual, but comfortable. We were politely greeted and seated with little to no wait. Never felt rush, nor did we ever feel ignored. Follow up before, during and after the meals was excellent. As for the meal itself, we started out with Takoyaki, a common street food in Japan that is a deep fried dumpling of octopus and dough. We've had it many times at different places and each and every time it's been very good. Akane's was no different, it was excellent! Covered with bonito flakes, Takoyaki sauce and Japanese mayo. It's a good starter to this meal. Then of course had to get ramen though the menu also offered rice and noodle dishes. I mean, how could we not! We ordered the Spicy Tan Tan Ramen and the Kimchi Ramen. We both enjoyed our ramen which were rich and flavorful. Because I've never really had ramen outside of my beloved instant variety, the denser, thicker noodles was kinda new to me, but the broth, chashu and egg along with the other accoutrements definitely added to the dish. My Spicy Tan Tan had the perfect amount of spice, enough to notice and make me sweat, but not so spicy that it hurts and I need a glass of water after each mouthful. Can't speak to the Kimchi Ramen as I didn't have that one, but fact that my wife had no complaints and we both ended up emptying our bowls, I'd say it was a good lunch all around. As for price, as this is our first Ramen house I'm assuming it's on par with everyplace else these days so can't really say to much there. For me though it's just getting over the instant ramen you buy at the grocery store at "buy 4 for a $1.00" or "a case of 24 for $9.00" vs. a bowl for $17.00. I guess I do have a thought, for that price could've had a little more on the accoutrements-more pork belly maybe? But just like any and everywhere else, we all seem to be paying more for less, so this isn't a direct dig at Akane Ramen, as more of a general observation of the world we live in today. That aside, we are happy to finally have a ramen house in the area. Akane Ramen will definitely see a return visit from us. read more
