I have wanted to try FF for a hot minute, especially because a friend really loved one of their rolls. The interior is nice and pretty laid back. It is not a big restaurant by any means, and when we went, there were only two or three other occupied tables. We ordered several rolls, sushi and ramen. The "miso" ramen was really disappointing. It didn't taste like miso and it had weird ingredients, including carrots and lettuce. So that was a big miss. The rolls were all pretty good, although the most basic of basic, the California roll was not great. My husband said the Ikura was really bad and had a strange taste. Finally, for whatever reason it took maybe 10 minutes for the ramen to come out, and around 40 minutes for the rest. Ya know, the uncooked bits. Like... It was pretty crazy how long we were there. Came on Memorial Day (Sunday) there was only one other table at about 5:30 but filled up quickly. Can tell this is a popular spot. Enjoyed the quiet relaxing vibe and cleanliness despite the full house. We were sat at a tiny table I almost told the server the table was too small. (2 piggies need room). She was so good about clearing dishes to make way for more it was not an issue. I think her name is Cindy she was so on top of it. I was impressed by her efficiency. Ordered a veggie udon, 1/2 dozen oysters, and a plethora of nigiri's. (Scallops, sweet shrimp, wild salmon, seared salmon, red snapper, tuna belly or otoro). There's a "specials" board posted at the sushi bar. Amazingly fresh. Quality fish. The showstopper was the red snapper and sweet shrimp. Love the flavor! Tried hard to slow down to savor each sushi. The sushi rice was super delicate so it sometimes fall apart had to be so ginger with all my chopstick maneuvers. The oysters were super fresh and nicely presented as well. 6/$20. The veggie udon soup was chock full of lovely veggies and small cubes of soft tofu in lovely hot broth my hubby couldn't stop helping himself to more cuz it's kinda addicting even though it's just veggies and noodles they make it taste so good. $12. The nigiri's. Price shown is one nigiri instead of the typical 2's. Aside from the scallops, the cut of each fish could be thicker and longer is my only critique for the nigiri a la carte order. The otoro was $9 a piece and everywhere I have gone, it'd be double the amount of fish where it drapes down like a long skirt. Well, that or go down in price. Will have to try the sashimi since for the same price it comes in 2 pieces. My other critique is they don't serve uni daily. Most quality sushi restaurants serve uni nowadays so I was a bit disappointed they only serve it occasionally. Maybe not enough people ordering to justify. Hope they will someday serve the Hokkaido variety daily is my wish. All in all, we still give it an A for a pleasant sushi experience. Wow! I'm writing this before we leave the parking lot. My partner and I just shared such a lovely spread from Fatty Fish! We frequently eat sushi and tried this place for the first time. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the freshest, most flavorful, and beautiful sushi we have had. We joked because the last time we went out for sushi it was so so, today was the most amazing redemption. We are positive this is our new favorite! Jazmine was our server and she was very sweet and really attentive. Our waters never reached the bottom, she checked in frequently, but we also never felt bothered or rushed. The restaurant is very clean and inviting, we had a really nice time. The two of us split a sashimi platter, a chef special roll and a miso soup (which was the best miso soup I've ever had, so flavorful, the tofu was perfect) it was plenty filling, so so wonderful and only cost about $53. 10/10 read more

We've been coming to Fatty Fish Sushi for a long time and have always enjoyed our experience--the food is usually fresh and the service is great, which is why we've always considered it one of our go-to spots. This time, however, the fish didn't seem as fresh as usual, and the overall experience felt a bit off. When it came time to leave a tip, our server was a bit forceful about reviewing the receipt, which made me feel uncomfortable. I still left a tip, as we know everyone has off days, but it felt unlike the usual service we're used to here. That said, we understand one visit doesn't define a place, especially when we've had so many great ones here before. This family run gem is tucked in between Everett and Snohomish. As you can see from the photos, their presentation is immaculate. We came in Mother's Day and it was perfect. Not busy and the ambiance was good for an easy going Sunday. We ordered the 34 dollar sashimi and sushi combo, Snohomish roll and milk creek roll in addition to various sashimi. We got the yozu infused yellowtail jalapeño appetizer. You got five thin slices of lean yellowtail. The yellowtail was good, the sauce needed more citrus and the jalapeño would've been better if pickled longer in the sauce. The rolls were the star and the creamy scallop was perfect. This place is small and unassuming, but the pictures spoke to me, and I had a hankering for sushi. I got their summer special roll first and after being very happy with the fish quality, and balance of flavors, I decided to order some nigiri and sashimi. Geoduck was one of the specials that day and the waitress recommended to do that without rice, and then I also got the unagi and Ikura with rice. I was super excited because I never had geoduck before. It was clean and fresh tasting and simply prepared and cut. It is firm in texture and almost has a crunch to it. I don't think I'd get it again, but I felt I had a good representation of what it was. The unagi melted in my mouth, and the Ikura while not super seasoned was very fresh and clean tasting without the bells and whistles. My boyfriend got the avacado salad. It had thinly sliced avacado on a bed of baby greens, and it came with a super fresh gingery type of dressing. After all these items I realized we had ordered at least 25 dollars of food and ordered the complimentary vegetable gyoza that come with an order over 25 and a yelp check in. They were actually very delicate and not oily like many can be. The filling was not crazy full, and it could have used a little more punch or contrast in flavor. For dessert we ordered this Mango item that had peices of palmelo (which is a giant citrus fruit) and mango, and little sago balls. Think super tiny clear boba. I thought the texture was going to be denser like a thick pudding, but it was more like a smoothie. It was a refreshing way to end the meal. If I were to go again I might sit at the sushi bar, I feel like I would have better access to service since there is only one waitress, and she was in the back doing other duties part of the time. I was very appreciative for a good solid sushi spot in this area, where a lot of care was put in to the sourceing and the execution of the product. It's safe to say that there's a surprisingly good selection of solid sushi places in this area--there are at least half a dozen spots who turn out more than just rolls or conveyor belt stuff, who have immaculate dining rooms and serve beautiful sea creatures. You can pay a little more or a little less depending where you go, and find a little bit different personality at each one. We just lost the old-school classicist earlier this year when a talented chef/owner retired (on his terms), but, other than that, living up here means enjoying sushi whenever you feel like it. Fatty Fish is newer, and they are the local kings of demure presentation. This starts up front. It's a strip mall, so just enjoy the ample parking and wait until you get inside to form your first real impression of the joint. It's beautifully painted, tastefully furnished, minimally decorated with thoughtful touches here and there. The staff are pleasant, in a quiet way. The hi-fi in the background plays 50s and 60s golden hits, which gives the place just the right amount of flavor. You might not associate sashimi with Ray Charles or Aretha Franklin, but it's all about formal beauty with real feeling, so it works together very well. The menu is about what you'd expect. Lots of color photos, lots of sushi, sashimi, combos, and a few appetizers. They make sure to bring up photos of cooked items and call your attention to what's spicy, what's vegetarian, and so on. The menu gets kooky on one dish--sushi pizza. They use a savory pancake (similar to a Vietnamese pancake) for the crust. This whole idea is a mix between sounding like a great story to tell your friends about the weird thing you ate and a contrary impulse telling you that there might be better ways to eat raw fish. I have a feeling my curiosity will win out and I'll try it at least once, someday. The miso soup is hot and does the trick; seaweed salad also does its job. The calamari sounded like a sure thing for some weird reason, but it was just solid--nice tender fish, right amount of batter, subtly flavored dipping sauce. Nothing wrong with it at all, but not explosively flavored, either, and the menu calls it out as particularly spicy. The New Yorker roll was quite good. The fish was chopped super fine in the middle, so it was almost soft. I'd like a little more texture to the fish, but that's a personal preference; the rest of the roll was great. The sashimi deluxe, though, holy cow. What a spectacular plate. Huge wooden bowl, great visual accents, beautifully integrated ginger and wasabi, just looked perfect. The fish was delectable. Hands down the splashiest sashimi platter around here, and it's got the fish to match. I live on the other side of I-5 from here, which means it's a tough slog to get here for dinner during the week.
