My sister raved about this place as we were driving there. How good can a sandwich place be? I take it back- it is that good. I haven't stopped thinking about wanting another sandwich from there. They have sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, exploded potatoes. There were so many choices. I settled on the Mission which is a veggie sub on toasted sub. It was tasty, satisfying, and huge. I even got leftovers. My sister got the curry chicken as salad instead of a sandwich. I took a bite or two or may be three, it was delicious. The curry wasn't overpowering. Service was great. This was our first visit to aka Friscos, and we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon as the first customers of the day. The menu is HUGE, so many options to choose from! It definitely took us a little longer than the regulars to decide what to try, but that's only because everything looked so good. We ended up ordering a couple of sandwiches and one of their signature potatoes. The food was freshly prepared and came out pretty quickly. I tried the Alcatraz sandwich--while the ingredients were fresh and flavorful, I wish I had asked for a different type of bread. I'm not the biggest fan of white bread, and it started to fall apart a bit while I was eating it. My husband had the roast beef sandwich and a potato, and he really enjoyed both. Overall, the food was fresh, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was laid-back and welcoming. We're looking forward to coming back and trying more from their menu. The giant subs are named after locations in the San Francisco/Bay Area. I ordered the Trans-Am (named after the famous Transamerica Building. It's Friscos' take on a club sandwich, and it was incredible. I ordered half of a sandwich and it was more than filling. The staff is friendly and attentive and will answer any questions. There is not a lot of seating inside the restaurant, but plenty is outside. Don't worry, the outdoor seating is covered, so you don't have to worry about melting in the sun. My sandwich was missing the cheese when we picked it up, which made the effect of bread + shreds worse. Deli meat is Sysco? Maybe Boars Head? I would not have rated what we got better than a Subway. Bag of chips is over $2. The drink selection is wide, lots of beer and some lemonades in different combinations. I got a pawpaw lemonade I was very excited for and you couldn't taste the flavor. Pawpaw isn't an aggressive taste but disappointing in a specialty drink. People were friendly. The space is tall, all the warehouse features still in evidence, but it's not huge. What they do, they do with supreme excellence. Pricing is most fair considering the generosity of the serving sizes; definitely a place to share a plate and not to feel bad about it. The "West of Santa Fe" salad hits the sweet spot of what they are best at; Tex-Mex and California cuisine with an upscale feel. Good selection of craft beers too for happy hour or maybe an early dinner before a Frederick Keys game, as we have done many times in the past. Don't let the business park location and industrial feel fool you. Very obviously the restaurant is run by foodies. One note: sub-optimal place for a business lunch or for (say) senior citizens despite the great accessibility: its austere and thus, loud inside. This place has really good sandwiches! I have come here a few times but to be honest the menu could use some updating. Sometimes less is more that way the focus can be on making things great and not hustle good. The mac & cheese needs seasoning it's nice to have all the cheese but seasoning is a must. I loves all the craft beer options and that there is a store attached. The young lady that took my order didn't seem like she wanted to be there but took our order. She failed to inform me where i would get the other kids meal goods(cookie, drink) and the cashier didn't informed me either. To be honest, I didn't have a horrible experience if it was OK it just needs some seasoning when it comes to the macaroni and cheese. I ended up getting the South of the Market sandwich and the Flat Iron Steak Potat to-go. Both were excellent. The beer/wine shop nextdoor had good selections too. They seem busy at lunch time but the longest wait was to order. Fatboy (Italian) with house hickory smoked pit ham, salami, provolone & cheddar Cheese, soppressata, all on a sub roll. Solid value and the meats were great. I would dump the cheddar and just be provolone since this is billed as an Italian sub. The sub roll was a little mushy and didn't taste like Italian bread. Service was a mess. We came in near closing time and asked if that was a problem and we were told no. Finally made it over to Aka Friscos after being in Frederick for a year. What a great hidden gem near Ballenger Creek. This is a great spot for sandwiches, baked potatoes, and salads. Their portions are massive and are very reasonably priced. It had a great vibe inside with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for patrons to choose from. The service was great even though they were very busy when I went, I still got my food pretty quick. Everyone was very friendly and patient as it was my first time. I had the baked potato with homemade chili and cheese along with a half sandwich. I can't speak enough to how fresh everything was from the bread to the vegetables on my sandwich. People LOVE this sandwich shop with beach vibes surrounded by office buildings in Frederick, Maryland. They used to have two locations in D.C. which both closed. We went for a Friday dinner and found it just to be okay. Here's why: 1) Food: The menu is very big, but little stood out. My wife's chicken wings were lacking flavor as was my "Haight Ashbury" sandwich. The ratio to bread was way off and the sprouts drowned out flavor. Being used to Mangialardo's in D.C., we were disappointed in a.k.a Firscos' sandwiches. This is a great place for young adults who don't know or don't care about good food. My husband and I (senior citizens) came for a late lunch, around 2:30 on a Tuesday. The man in the kiosk explained the ordering process and gave us 4 laminated pages, each representing a section of the menu and said we could refer to them or to a menu board overhead. Working our way thru the bulky and bent pages was confusing. The board was also confusing, only because it was high overhead and in an area where there wasn't much room to stand. The husband ordered a steak sandwich on salad greens. I ordered the Santa Fe potato. The man in the kiosk was helpful and friendly. The cashier was civil and almost completely disengaged. Eye contact once and a returned smile to my smile, but otherwise seemed disinterested in enhancing my lunch experience. The restaurant serves the food in aluminum bowls. No problem there, but when I touched my bowl, it was ice cold. The salad greens were fine, but the steak looked like it had been reheated. At least once. My husband said the quality was fine given the price, but over-spiced. The potato arrived barely warm and it was completely cold by the time I finished. The chicken was so shredded it looked like what I feed the cat. The taste suggested it was wanna be authentic, but not quite there yet. The salsa was tasty, but the entire dish was smothered in it. Salsa is a garnish or something to be added in at the eater's choice. the entire dish was topped by thin and runny sour cream. The server gave us two plastic forks and one knife and a ton of napkins. I've gotten food from them three times. Each time, the food was just.. okay. Here's what I had: 1. Steak sandwich. It sounded so yummy and it said that it came with steak sauce on top - but when I opened the container there was no sauce at all. I ate the sandwich anyway because I was starving, and the steak was honestly really good, it was just missing the sauce! 2. Chicken salad bowl. This may come down to individual taste, but I did not care for the chicken salad. It was kind of dry and flavorless. My partner gets the chicken salad in sandwich form and he loves it. 3. Lombardo (I think I spelled it right) sandwich. Again this may be individual taste, but I thought this sandwich was lackluster. I don't remember if it was the peppers, lack of sauce, or the quality of the meat, but it was not very good. Overall, I think the sandwiches are lacking in sauce or something to tie the sandwich together and make it less dry.
