Beer flight at Vegetable Hunter
Michael S.

I'll start by saying that this review is just for the spot and the beer. I have no issues with vegan cuisine, just went there to sample the beers. Veg Hunter is a nice space on N 2nd Street, a few blocks north of the main restaurant district in downtown Harrisburg. The first floor has a service bar and small seating area, with a more conventional bar and seating on the second floor. Tables outside, too, when weather permits. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and very honest that beers take a little longer because they are a nano-brewery so they are not using a high powered tap system. I ordered a flight (pictured) for a sampling of styles The beers were OK, not spectacular. To me, that's not unsurprising at a nanobrewery (which can be hit or miss). The advantage of nanobrewing is that is a regular rotation of tastes and styles. If you are an adventurous beer taster, Veg Hunter has a nice atmosphere and awesome staff

BBQ Mac & Cheese Chickn Sandwich

What we got: Buffalo chickn sandwich - Eggplant Rueben - Mac n cheez - bbq mac n cheez chickn sandwich - salt and vinegar potato soup!!!! Everything was incredible. Thursday at 2:30pm we found street parking right out front. Because of the holiday week, only one guy was working the whole place so it was a slower experience but SO worth it. Plus they have a good selection of board/card games to play while you wait. An awesome vegan spot, right by the river. Cute decor and chalkboard wall.

I have been coming here for years and love it! Lots of choices on their menu. Perfect walking distance to the Hilton if you are staying there. Staff is very friendly and welcoming! Restaurant space is warm and inviting with boards games and magazines too.

Flavorless and unappetizing Philly cheesesteak and Chana masala bowl
Lily T.

I really hate to write such a negative review, but here's just a PSA to everyone that the food here is so bland, unappealing, and a big waste of your money. I love supporting local vegan restaurants so I was excited to try this place. When we got there they said they were out of the Mac and cheese and the fried tofu. While I was disappointed and looking forward to the mac and cheese I settled on getting the Philly cheesesteak (which was recommended to me by the server). My friend ordered the Chana Masala bowl. When our food came out I just stared at the Philly cheesesteak because it looked unappetizing and was questioning my decision. I finally took a bite and it was just so mehhh and it was mostly bread. The Chana Masala bowl had rice that was probably 2 days old and this white mayonnaise on top that didn't match the flavor profile at all. My friend and I didn't know what to do because there is no service. We wanted to grab a quick bite because we were traveling but we were left with confusion and disappointment by our meal. The chocolate chip cookie made me consider giving it two stars, but one star is fitting for this experience. The picture speaks for itself

What a pleasant surprise to park the car and realize that we were in front of a vegan restaurant. Nice location. (Interesting to see how close the wall of the building next door is to this building. Can you imagine the conversation and controversy?) Comfortable seating inside and outside. Interesting menu and tasty food! The next time I'm in Harrisburg, I would definitely eat here again.

Order at the counter, delivered to your table. Very tasty, large portions leaning on the spicy side. Lots to choose from, we were happy with our sandwiches and will be back!

The building is a former printing plant which has a spacious tap rooms/dining on the first floor and the Abbey Bar (with occasional live music) upstairs. I'm a big fan of ABC for many reasons, not the least of which is their variety of approachable and tasty beer styles for nearly any taste. ABC manages to stay creative with a mix of standard selections with a rotating cast of seasonals--but nothing too exotic. The food has been good in my experience and I confess a particular liking for the pierogies--pretty darn good for this part of PA. Service at this location has been uniformly excellent during all my visits. A couple of mild quirks about the Cameron Street location: first, parking is a bit odd. There's a small lot near the entrance but most parking is near the back of the building. Second, the brewery is on a slightly industrial stretch of Cameron Street. Translation: the neighborhood looks worse than it actually is! ABC runs an excellent small chain of brew pubs (I've visited most of them) but I think the original has a je ne sais quoi that makes it special.

The food in my opinion is a touch above a typical brewery these days. The pierogies and Brotz were amazing and I absolutely love them. The beers are typical for an established brewery and were quite tasty. Especially like the staff, they were friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere was awesome, and I really love the themes that seem to shout out to through hikers on the Appalachian Trail.

But this place is much more than beer, and I can't recommend it enough. First, there is a bar completely separate from the eating area, so you can choose what experience you want. Second, I've known that all their beers are top notch, which is why I wanted to come here. I'm not an IPA guy, but the black IPA is some top notch stuff that anyone can appreciate. Not super hoppy, really well balanced. Blonde stout is another superb creation, Lancaster gets some depth into it that many other breweries can't manage. Third, if you want food, they learned from the Food Network and limited their menu to just a few choices, all excellently prepared. I ordered the Angry Mac with gator meat. It had excellent flavor, they made it spicier like I asked, and unlike most places they provided plenty of meat. Great quantity and great taste that I wasn't expecting. I tasted my friend's polenta and it was perfectly balanced with some cheese, not too salty. I could eat that for days. Finally, Eva, our waitress? Wonderful. My friend and I were weighing dessert, we wanted a brownie but not the whole hot fudge brownie sundae. Eva made it work and even split it between heated and cold. What a great server. Props to Eva! To get this quality of food, this quality of beer, this quality of service, and this quality of ambiance all in one? No wonder my friend was willing to go two days in a row. I need a Lancaster Brewing in my town.

Fenced in outdoor space, corn hole, food, drinks, live music, and recommended by a friend. And technically it had all of those things! And yet somehow, those things were generally only okay. First, music was inside and it was incredibly loud. So we go outside which was just.... A mess. Like, we got mustard on our clothes from an unclean table; food and napkin scraps all stuck in the grass everywhere you looked. Then, the service outside is through a window, which in itself is no problem. The issue is that it was single server on a Friday night and the line took a really long time. The food and drinks we did get, we enjoyed. Based on the other factors, I am unsure that I would make it a point to stop here when back in the area.

Revolutionary Hot Sauce Brew Pub - A Solo Valentine's Win…read more I took myself out on a Valentine's Day date this year and decided to try Revolutionary Hot Sauce Brew Pub after seeing it on social media. I'd heard good things about their hot sauces (and that they'd been featured on Hot Ones), so I figured it was time to see what the hype was about. I went in without a specific plan--just knew everything I saw online looked incredible. I ended up asking the guy behind the counter (who I later realized was the owner) whether I should go with the habanero chili dog or the hot habanero pork burger. I've never had a pork burger before, so I was a little hesitant--but I deferred to his recommendation. Absolutely the right call. The pork burger with the habanero sauce was so good. Perfect balance of heat and flavor--not just spicy for the sake of being spicy. And the fresh-cut fries? Exactly what you want them to be: hot, crisp, and clearly made with care. The space itself is a low-key micro pub--casual, relaxed, exactly what you'd expect--but that doesn't make it any less special. The place oozes passionate startup energy. There's a whole shelf of custom hot sauces with creative names, a thoughtfully designed menu, and you can just feel that this is someone's vision brought to life. The owner was out talking to customers, genuinely enthusiastic about what he's building. That kind of energy elevates a place from "good food" to "great experience." Highly recommend. You can tell this is a labor of love--and it shows in every detail

I stopped in on a chilly, windy January Friday around 5:30pm and immediately felt at home. There were maybe five people total inside--three at the bar and one couple in the dining room. It was quiet, no too-bright lights, and warm. Cozy. Calm. Very much my vibe. I was handed a menu, told I could sit anywhere, and instructed to head to the order station when I was ready. As I perused the menu, I found myself in a familiar internal conflict: I really wanted the Smoked Beef Tri Tip & Burrata sandwich, but I also really wanted a smash burger instead of sliced beef. So naturally, I decided to test the limits of the universe. I gathered my courage, went to the order station, and told the man taking my order that I appreciated him entertaining what I was about to say because I was trying to break reality just a little. Then I asked: "Can I get the Smoked Beef Tri Tip & Burrata...without the tri tip...and with a smash burger instead?" Without missing a beat, he replied, "Well, I have to tell you--we're actually out of the tri tip, so...sure! We're going to confuse the guy in the kitchen, but let's do it." A million out of ten stars! Total for this beautiful nonsense: $16. I upgraded my fries to black truffle fries for $2 (as one does) and added a Diet Coke for $2.75. With tip, my total came to $25--very reasonable for the experience I was about to have. I returned to my seat and soaked in the atmosphere. A few minutes later, Order Station Man reappeared to let me know they were out of the bacon jam sauce that was supposed to go on my sandwich--but offered to whip up something similar if that was okay. YES. Always yes. Thank you for offering a solution instead of a shrug. This is a huge win in my book! While I waited, more folks filtered in and joined the couple seated near me. They clearly knew each other, and after a bit of chatting, someone called the group to order and they all introduced themselves. That's when I realized I had unknowingly scored dinner-and-a-show: a Dungeons & Dragons meetup. I ate my burger while listening to character introductions. Zero complaints. And the food? Exactly what I hoped for. The smash burger was a perfect, smaller patty--ideal size for me--loaded with creamy burrata on a fluffy roll. I quickly finished the entire thing, which is the highest compliment I can give. Midway through my meal, Order Station Man appeared again--this time holding a bowl of black truffle fries--and apologized for initially sending regular fries. I hadn't even noticed (I was focused on the smashburger spectacular!) or said a word, but he fixed it anyway. And I'm so glad he did because these truffle fries were ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Crispy, flavorful, and officially added to my "I need fries from this place" list. Despite a few wrinkles (which were all handled beautifully), this was a genuinely great experience. Friendly staff, flexible kitchen, cozy atmosphere, and food that delivered. Highly recommend. Parking could be tricky at peak times, but I parked across the street in the old bank lot without issue. Revolutionary Eatery & Brewpub understands hospitality--and apparently also understands my very specific sandwich dreams.

The three things I look for in a brewery are an inviting outdoor space, accessibility to some good grub, and (of course) some quality beers. Big bonus if a place is dog friendly. Shy Bear easily accomplishes all three and earns a double bonus for welcoming our Doodle. The staff was great - they were packed but our hostess and waitress both made sure we were taken care of without being up-in-your-face. They understood both the food and beer menus and were able to make good suggestions. The overall atmosphere of the place was fun too - trivia night was going on while we were there and even the people who weren't playing along were obviously engaged. We had lunch not too much earlier, but we couldn't pass up trying one of the flatbreads that the waitress recommended. We were very happy that we did - just the right size and very tasty. We each got a flight of five so we got to sample a good chunk of their offerings. They had some unique variations like a cookies n cream sour and they also had some truer to original styles that I prefer - and I walked out with a four pack of their West Coast IPA to prove it. For sure I intend to try to convince Mama to go back again, get a room nearby, and sip on a few drinks outside when it's warmer - even though it's about a two hour trip! My rating scale: 1 - Just don't 2 - You'll survive, but there are better choices close by 3 - Good choice if you're in the area 4 - I'd drive 30 minutes out of my way just to come here 5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here
