Good taste good. I think the good balances out the bad so the 3 stars comes down to the fact that there is better Mexican food out there. So food tastes good but... The chips are pretty cool that they are so thin making them melt in your mouth and also good for a toddler to eat with lest risk of choking, but they are gut uneven so you get tiny chips and huge chips. They also use the same thin cut tortillas for the tacos so they break apart. All the insides fall out the bottom on the first bite. I mean your finger pokes through the side as you pick up the taco. Maybe if they grill the tortilla a little longer it would strengthen it up a little. It would also make it so the taco wasn't as cold which is another flaw. The salsa is another area that is lacking in more than one regard. It's tasteless, runny, and when I ordered chips and salsa to go I got a huge bag of chips and one tiny container of salsa. So for my street tacos, enchiladas, and huge bag of chips I get one tiny container of salsa. I could see if the chips and salsa were free but I paid for it. That's another thing. What Mexican food restaurant sends out street tacos in a to go order with no salsa or red sauce ti out on them? Just one time I would like to get a to go order that I don't have to rifle through the whole bag or take every item out and open it up to make sure everything's correct or not lacking. I might as well just tell them to lay it all out on a table fist and show it to me and I'll pack the bag. Honestly it wouldn't be that big of a deal if the order for two people wouldn't have been $60. $30 a person without alcohol per person at a Mexican restaurant is definitely on the high side. I get it. Inflation is trickling down to every aspect of life. I'm definitely not saying don't go here. It's a good location and food taste good besides the salsa. Grill the tortillas a little longer and you should be good to go. They even fell apart while eating the enchiladas. read more

The food was so delicious! We had the pork torta and a couple tamales. It was all amazing. The chips and salsa were over the top. They make their own tortillas and then make the most crisp and delicious chips from them. Perfectly salted. Served with a salsa duo. The service was amazing too. I had a steak taco and shrimp taco; the steak was over cooked, barely any flavor, and the shrimps were a little soggy. For paying $6 per taco, they were way overpriced for two tacos. And the $11 margarita was overpriced as well, as it barely tasted like there was any tequila in it. read more

Love that this is a local family owned business and really hoped to leave a great review but unfortunately I can't. You order at counter and they bring food to you. They have inside and a nice outdoor covered patio. The fans weren't working so it initially was quite hot but as the evening got on there was a nice breeze. The bathrooms are downstairs shared with other businesses. Service just okay: food ready quickly but never came by to refill waters etc. The menu is very limited for vegetarians which is part of the low rating. I ordered their vegetarian taco which was quite dry and was loaded with cilantro (this was not listed on menu and I dislike cilantro immensely). My friend got the vegetarian tamales and said they were very good. The margaritas are flavorful. The one item I would definitely recommend is the chips and guacamole: in addition to being fun displayed on plate it was also delicious. So in summary: if you're not a vegetarian you will probably love the food here since everyone around ur seemed to be enjoying theirs. read more

This is a very delicious authentic Mexican restaurant. I ordered vegetarian taco and traditional pork tamale. Probably the best tamale I ever had. Everything is freshly made along with delicious corn tortillas. To top it off we had coconut ice cream! I highly recommend this restaurant. Guy Fieri recommended this restaurant from his show Diners Drive Ins and Dives..and he was right. Pretty overrated for a DDD joint. Ordered tacos with chips & guacamole. and tasted fine but pretty thin on meat compared to taco stands. Guacamole was bland and contained several pieces of the avocado skin. Margaritas were quite good and made up for the experience, however service was unwelcoming and the outdoor tables need to be refinished to provide of a clean eating surface. read more

Got into town and passed by here. Sounded nice and looked cute so we tried it. I didn't know prior to going it was featured on DDD. I've been twice in the last month. Pros: 1.) Friendly staff, welcoming both times: once for to-go, once for dine in. 2.) Basic tacos (steak, chicken, pork) were good, exceptionally basic. Well prepared, nothing exciting -- but tasted decent. Average is $5 per taco that's non-seafood. The shells are gluten free which is a plus. All tacos that we got had meat, a tiny bit of pico and raw shredded cabbage, served with the worlds smallest limes. 3.) Their chips are made in house, served with a nice salsa (red and green) for $3. Chips are good (we've had better) but they're unique to here. Salsa is what made it for me. Cons: 1.) The guacamole is ridiculously overpriced. Super bland. I've had guacamole all over the US, this by far was the most disappointing I've had for a niche shop. Ordered to go and the guacamole was unsalted. Menu says it's made with onion, but that wasn't so for mine. Tasted like a mashed avocado and nothing else...for $10. I'm often taken aback by how uninspired places can be, but especially with such a simple menu. Wouldn't order this again. They'd do well to kick it up with at a minimum salt and lime -- but they could get a bit more creative for the price point. 2.) The second time we went we tried the fish tacos. Special was Halibut. We were excited as that's a favorite fish of ours. $20 for two small tacos with mediocre beans and rice. When I tell you this is a rip off....Hoo boy. There was one tiny chunk of halibut in each taco. The fish was old AF -- definitely not fresh. Tasted awful. Poorly seasoned. Bland. Boring. They're overpriced and overrated. Not sure if the DDD went to their noggins or if folks have just gotten lax. I know post-2020 most restaurants are struggling for a host of reasons. They prepare their main staples well, but massively derail on their specialty items -- which is a double whammy to the customer given that's where they gouge you on the price. They could make this a knock-out joint. The potential is there, but they'd need to up their game on flavor and seafood quality. read more

My updated rating is solely a reflection of the service I've experienced here since the change of location... I still LOVE their tacos, LOVE the guacamole and chips! But unfortunately have not been impressed with the service over the last few months. Of the 10+ times I've been since the change of location, I would say I had *great* service only once (server was great, drinks arrived first, food promptly thereafter). The other times, we had a glass of water dumped on us, had our drinks arrive after we had already finished our tacos, had orders messed up, rude servers, and unfortunately slow service all around. I keep coming back hoping that some changes have been made, but am disappointed by the lack thereof. read more

I don't review places on Yelp unless I feel like I have an opinion worth contributing, but in the case of Agave, I really just wanted to share my gratitude for what wonderful service they gave our party of 6 tonight. The staff was friendly and attentive, and never left us wanting anything -- it may have been the best service I've ever received at a casual-type restaurant. That's not to say the food wasn't tasty -- the menu had some very inventive dishes (my favorite was the cabbage-lime-jalapeño salad), delicious tamales, and a good range of vegetarian items. And while the dessert tamale was creative, it was the house-churned coconut ice cream that was the can't miss dessert item. Not overly sweet and with a wonderful texture. The dining area is large inside, and there is also a patio (where we sat) for when the weather is nice. Worth checking out when you're in Ashland. read more

We almost passed by this place, and I'm so glad we stopped in. The atmosphere, staff and food were above and beyond what we could have expected. The ceviche and guacamole are beyond divine and the tortas.....there are no words for the bursts of deliciousness that will make your mouth sing with each bite! Every dish is a hit and the staff makes you feel like family! The cost is more than worth it, for true Mexican fare but if you are looking for tacos and burritos on the cheap, go to Taco Bell! Ordered the Carne Asada Torta - after waiting an hour for it the Carne Asada was virtually nonexistent on the sandwich. This little place is amazing! I love how the outside is decorated. It wasn't too busy inside and the service was great. The pineapple agua fresca margarita was yummy, as were the chips and guacamole- I love how they arrange them. But the real stars here are the tacos, which were so delicious! I tried the carnitas, carne asada, camarones, and langosta (my favorite!). I split them all with another person and it made for a nice little meal. I would definitely stop here again the next time I come up for the Shakespeare festival! read more

Not what you would expect from a food place you saw on DDD. We were excited and actually made it a point to come here during our visit to Ashland. The people there seem nice no issues, but their system of how to order, where you sit, the whole ambience, plus price point doesn't match. You would think that some of that money you pay would go to the environment, and if It didn't, at least your food would be fantastic, but it wasn't. The overall quality, presentation, portion size, was very underwhelming... The flavor was inedible for their pozole. Tacos were average chain restaurant tasting. And guacamole and chips were OK but very very small portion. Although When we asked for more chips they brought it happily. Like I said the staff were nice but I would never ever ever return. No need to spend that type of money on that type of experience/flavor. read more

My family and I came here because we heard they had good margaritas, so we entered and it was very loud inside so we decided to eat outside. Well, it really wasn't warm enough to eat outside so we went back inside and informed the person that we changed our mind and would like to eat inside. I was then Informed there was no table available inside for a party our size. Ok well we decided to wait but felt ignored sitting outside and had a play to catch so again went inside and asked if we could order while waiting for a table. She said she would be outside shortly to take Our order, not very nicely either. Well we waited quite a while, but was really running low on time so decided to just leave. Again, we didn't eat here but a review of the menu revealed that it is not your typical Mexican restaurant. They sell very few dishes that come with beans and rice and it appears that they specialize in a la carte tacos. They looked interesting but just couldn't wait any longer. read more

I've gone to Agave about 10 times in the last several years. Each time, it was just a notch less pleasant than the previous. The youthful servers' attitude of "whatever" about their jobs isn't worth the over-priced fare. A recent encounter I overheard between a customer and server, where the server was blatantly abusive and even SWORE at the customer, was enough for me to never go back. The customer had a legitimate complaint, but was treated with extreme disrespect. If I were manager, I would have fired that arrogant server on the spot; she should not be working with the public. Ceviche was subpar and the margarita was sour... needed more tequila and a little more sweet. One waiter for the entire restaurant during lunch... and he was clearly rushed. He came to my table to take my drink order, food order, and to deliver my food.... that was all. The hostess was also less than enthusiastic. You want fresh? You got it! Agave is a definite stop on our yearly excursion to Ashland, OR for the Shakespeare Festival. Again, this year, it did not disappoint. For a smallish dining room a few steps away from the beaten downtown path, it is well worth it! The food is extremely fresh and delicious, and the service is top-notch. Our sever, Jacob, was courteous and professional, and greeted us with a warm smile upon entering. Our order, Ensalada De La Casa, Vegetarian Pozole, and the Agave Bowl with Verduras Asada was washed down wonderfully by a John's B. Gone famous margarita. For two vegetarians with normal/large appetites, this was enough food to split and be comfortably full. Bonus, it came in around $40 with tip! We will definitely see you next year, thanks! read more
