This is a hidden gem of Ashland that probably doesn't get the credit it deserves. Servers were extremely attentive, portions were a lot larger than expected - I could only finish half the nachos. Yum!! I'm originally from San Diego, but I've lived in Sacramento for a couple years now and unfortunately it's been really hard to find a Mexican restaurant we really like. Often we have to choose between yummy food or yummy drinks, it's surprisingly hard to find both in one establishment. However, during our trip to Ashland we found this spot - thanks to Yelp of course - and it delivered! We're not fancy, we just really appreciate good basics like Cadillac margaritas, well flavored rice and beans, and tasty chips and salsa, etc. Five stars across-the-board for this place! I forgot to take the picture until we had demolished most of the food, but you can see how huge my husband's plate of ceviche was (he loved it) and I did some major damage to my taco salad as it was super tasty (I forgot the name, but it was the one with the fried flour shell). As others noted, it was very affordable - especially considering the portion sizes. The staff was really great and friendly too. I 100% recommend this place and wish I could take it back to Sacramento with me. read more

Favorite Mexican restaurant in the area! Food is delicious, portions are huge, and the staff is SO kind. I get their vegetarian Expresso Burrito (and a Shirley temple when dining in person - a seriously underrated beverage). Inside is casual with cozy booths and lots of TVs to watch sports. You can get a burrito at the other restaurant downtown for the same price but half the size and not as flavorful (for a veg burrito). Go here!! read more

My classmates and I had class on Sunday evening and someone suggested we meet up for dinner. One of them suggested here since it's right across the street from campus. It is a little confusing because there's two signs, and she told me the La Casa Del Puerto name and I drove by it because I saw the Puerto Mazatlan name. They do have a small parking lot which is nice, and if it's crowded there's a side street. The staff is very friendly! They have a nice assortment of Mexican food to choose from including combinations. Since I'm from San Diego, which has some of the best Mexican food this side of the border, I am a little cautious but Puerto Mazatlan is legit! I ordered the carne asada burrito. Out came this large burrito with grilled beef, rice, and beans with guacamole and sour cream on the side. This was very good! Nice grilled beef, oh and it came out wet. I didn't read the description of presentation, I just saw Asada Burrito. Our server was great! Handled the 12 of us and even separated the checks which we really appreciated since it was such a big group! I'll definitely be back to explore the menu more! read more

It's mediocre Mexican food, but it has very friendly staff, large portions, and a kind atmosphere. My family used to eat here regularly when I was growing up and it was under the name "casa del Pueblo." They've rebranded, but it's pretty much the same place. Although the majority of their food is mediocre, their mole is actually quite good. The pitchers of margarita are large and well priced. read more

They have a lot of $10-11 lunch plates that are full meals with rice and beans, and the entrees are plump with plenty of filling. Service is fast. My partner and I have lived in Ashland for almost 3 years, and this is by far the best tasting Mexican food we've had (Partner is Latin, I'm a former fine dining chef) where yeah I had to switch to Google. Not only was the service staff incredibly friendly and had a great attitude. Our server Harmon was charismatic, cared about his employees and the patrons in his business. With a happy and cheerful vibe along with delicious and beautifully plated food I will be coming here for years to come. I came to find out that they've been around for more than 20 years, and with such a great work staff, happy attitude and friendly smile, I understand. If I can give this place a zero I would. Good customer service but the quality of the food was trash. I asked for a Campechana Caliente and a Shrimp taco. Both dishes were plain, no flavor whatsoever. I ate the shrimp taco but ate 5 percent of my campechana. I asked to pay he noticed that the campechana was still full but didn't bother to ask for a Togo cup or if the food was good. So I told the waiter that it's missing a flavor. I didn't tip and walked away, won't ever step foot in this restaurant again. Yes I see good reviews because the drinks might be good but I'm a LA native and seafood is my favorite food. So I know when a Mexican restaurant is good or not. For me this place is trash period!!! If you ever in Paramount California try Mazatlan restaurant you will taste the difference. read more

So disappointed. The ambiance was OK, like a remodeled diner. The waiter was nice, but the bartender was a jerk. Loud, obnoxious, in a big hurry. The cadillac margaritas were nothng special, obviously made with bottled mix and not fresh ingredients. When we ordered a second one, they bartender made some other kind of margarita that tasted terrible, and we had to send them back. The food was just average, and we were hoping for a dinner salad but none on the menu. Everything was just OK. I would not recommend this place. read more
