This is a hidden gem of Ashland that probably doesn't get the credit it deserves. Servers were extremely attentive, portions were a lot larger than expected - I could only finish half the nachos. Restaurant really felt like one I've been to in Mexico, and they had a great variety of items. Definitely going back next time I'm in Ashland.

Yum!! I'm originally from San Diego, but I've lived in Sacramento for a couple years now and unfortunately it's been really hard to find a Mexican restaurant we really like. Often we have to choose between yummy food or yummy drinks, it's surprisingly hard to find both in one establishment. However, during our trip to Ashland we found this spot - thanks to Yelp of course - and it delivered! We're not fancy, we just really appreciate good basics like Cadillac margaritas, well flavored rice and beans, and tasty chips and salsa, etc. Five stars across-the-board for this place! I forgot to take the picture until we had demolished most of the food, but you can see how huge my husband's plate of ceviche was (he loved it) and I did some major damage to my taco salad as it was super tasty (I forgot the name, but it was the one with the fried flour shell). As others noted, it was very affordable - especially considering the portion sizes. The staff was really great and friendly too. I 100% recommend this place and wish I could take it back to Sacramento with me.

Dark and gloomy inside. Is kitxhen as dirty as the carpets? Seems inflation got the better of this menu, $18-$22 entrees. I prefer the other Mexican restaurant options in Ashland one near exit 14 and another one just off exit 19.

Favorite Mexican restaurant in the area! Food is delicious, portions are huge, and the staff is SO kind. I get their vegetarian Expresso Burrito (and a Shirley temple when dining in person - a seriously underrated beverage). Inside is casual with cozy booths and lots of TVs to watch sports. You can get a burrito at the other restaurant downtown for the same price but half the size and not as flavorful (for a veg burrito). Go here!!

I forgot to take a photo before but I was hungry and I would've licked the plate because it was soo good! LOL!

My classmates and I had class on Sunday evening and someone suggested we meet up for dinner. One of them suggested here since it's right across the street from campus. It is a little confusing because there's two signs, and she told me the La Casa Del Puerto name and I drove by it because I saw the Puerto Mazatlan name. They do have a small parking lot which is nice, and if it's crowded there's a side street. The staff is very friendly! They have a nice assortment of Mexican food to choose from including combinations. Since I'm from San Diego, which has some of the best Mexican food this side of the border, I am a little cautious but Puerto Mazatlan is legit! I ordered the carne asada burrito. Out came this large burrito with grilled beef, rice, and beans with guacamole and sour cream on the side. This was very good! Nice grilled beef, oh and it came out wet. I didn't read the description of presentation, I just saw Asada Burrito. Our server was great! Handled the 12 of us and even separated the checks which we really appreciated since it was such a big group! I'll definitely be back to explore the menu more!

    Just tacos

Love this place! Confused on the Jalisco specials tho.. supposed to get rice and beans with my Barbacoa tacos ( comes with every time) but told this time it's not included and never has been? Menu says served with rice and beans, so I think the kitchen/servers needs to be informed or menu needs to be updated! Will still be back hopefully this gets cleared up for next time

We showed up at 5 and were greeted by the same fabulous woman as last time. You just know that someone that kind and welcoming would not own a place she wasn't rightfully proud of. She sets the tone and all the employees carry it through the entire meal. We chose to try the patio tonight and it was cozy yet open, darker with a couple of fire lights around the room. Intimate. Some of the tables are separated by live plants in planter boxes. We loved it. We started with the beets (with shaved fennel pieces and a citrus vinaigrette with a tahini yogurt sauce on the bottom) and burrata (with grilled pieces of bread and sugar snap peas and capers) appetizers - both were delicious. Randy wanted to try another of their off menu drinks. We can't remember what this drink is called but it's not on the menu and has some Mai tai mix and orange bitters ... like a mock Mai tai spritzer. Delicious - Randy had two! I got the mushroom bolognese - so good. It's home made (!) bucatini pasta with a mushroom (cremini, oyster and shiitake) and san Marzano tomato sauce with burrata on top. I love mushrooms but Randy does not and he loved this dish. The mushrooms taste meaty. Randy ordered the Carbonara again and it was also delicious. We also got an order of garlic bread this time and wow. We each have half of our dinners left, lucky us. We shared the creme brûlée which came with a lavender short bread cookie. Perfect. Everything was perfect. The place was packed and all employees were calm and efficient and friendly. Can't wait to go back!

Mistakes…read morewere made by multiple aspects of the restaurant and a member of our party who communicated very clearly that she has Celiac was served a dish with bread. I truly want to like this restaurant, but I have had some really mixed experiences. The ambiance is very nice - it can get a little loud in the dining room, but the tables are comfortable, the lighting is appropriate, and the decor is interesting. The wine list is phenomenal and the reason I brought friends on my most recent visit. The menu is really hit and miss. There are some dishes that are excellent (some things even sell out before the evening is over), but unfortunately, not all. The hostess is absolutely wonderful - she is charming and funny and really has a talent for making you feel welcome and appreciated for dining with them. Unfortunately, the service is really hit and miss. On my last visit, the waitress really didn't seem like she had time for us. She didn't take the time to explain in much detail about menu items or the wine list. She didn't participate in any banter with us or really make us feel welcome. She seemed rushed, which has not been my experience with service here in the past. My biggest concern, though, is about the efforts of the staff and kitchen to keep items allergen-free. The restaurant advertises itself as a place that is Celiac knowledgeable and friendly. We made it clear in our reservation and to the waitress when we sat down at the table that one member of our party had Celiac and needed to be strictly gluten free. All seemed well and we ordered two appetizers marked as gluten free on the menu. One of those appetizers was served with bread. After the food had been delivered, the waitress must have noticed the issue and offered to have the kitchen remake the dish. We agreed (she left the original plate on the table and in the end we were only charged for one, so all good). The re-made dish was brought out, with bread on the side. There should not have been bread at all, it was very confusing. All in all I would return one more time and hope to have a different experience, but if that experience was the same as my recent one, I likely would not return.

Speaking, the brisket in the Banh Mi was unfortunately tough and lacked the tenderness you'd expect from a properly smoked or braised cut. It had the distinct texture of a pre-packaged Sysco-style product, or perhaps it was a cold portion reheated on a flat top without being properly rehydrated, leaving it dry and chewy. I understand that protein carries a high food cost, especially in the current market. However, a more effective approach might be to balance the menu engineering by leaning on lower food cost items, like seasonal sides or creative vegetarian options, to offset the expense of sourcing and correctly preparing higher-end brisket. This would allow for a better product that justifies its price point, covers its own cost, and ultimately helps the company's bottom line while maintaining the quality standards this town deserves. I'd love to see a return to the quality I experienced a few years ago. All and all, despite the brisket. The service was kind and friendly.

I love that the restaurant store front is opened wide, it makes it easy to approach and order at the counter. They have a very large variety of alcoholic drink options and some very tasty non alcoholic options as well. Even though we sat outside about 5 tables down, they still came by to deliver our food to us instead of having us waiting inside. The food was amazing. Meat was juicy, bread was perfect, both the sides of fries and house made chips were delicious. The ranch tasted like it was house made as well but I forgot to ask them. My cider was great and my partner got a strawberry slushy- both did not disappoint. The overall theme inside is adorable! It's got a lot of wooden pieces and a camping trailer inside really ties the theme together nicely. There is plenty of tables and shade outside and lots of indoor seating as well. Bathrooms are super clean and clearly well maintained by the folded toilet paper roll. The only thing I will say is if you're going to sit outside expect outside things to happen. There was a lot of flying debris from around the creek due to someone down the way doing outdoor maintenance. Despite this, my partner and I thought it was worth it to hear the running water and be in such a beautiful area for lunch. I would scream my recommendation from the roof top if I could. Thank you for a great meal!

Maybe it's just this Ashland store, but the amount of salad has been less than satisfactory. Today's salad was about 30-40% less than a few years ago. Yes, I've asked for more veg/rice, and yes I know the protein is 4oz, but I shouldn't have to ask... based on past salads. And the dressing?! /2 oz at the most (see picture).
