I'll start out with the service: impeccable. Everyone was helpful and friendly, explaining exactly what some of the ingredients were. Smiling. Efficient. Next the ambience: very laid back but bustling. We ate inside but there was a great patio in the back we'll take advantage of next time we're in Ashland. Original artwork throughout the restaurant. Overall a cool "vibe" without pretension. We started with Salsa y Tostadas. "Chips and Dip". Right? Wrong. This starter had fresh homemade tostadas to go with an assortment of 9 different salsas. All fresh. All made on premises. Heat ranged from mild to pretty hot...all were extremely flavorful. We also had guacamole. Don't believe that when you've had one guac, you've had them all. VERY tasty. Fresh. Our group of 3 had the Tacos de Carnitas (pork shoulder). Fantastic. Slow cooked to perfection with just the right accompaniments. My favorite of our 3 items. We also had the Mole Poblano. Chicken with the absolute best mole I've ever had. Creamy and complex. I'm not even a mole fan. I guess I never really had good mole before. Tlali's was delicious. Our 3rd entree was a special. It was slow-cooked short ribs in mini tostadas cups (I forget the exact name of the dish) with various salsa and vegetables. Delicious. All of the food was great. We did share the flan as desert. It was very good but not as special as the entrees. Our only nitpick is the drinks. We had a couple of mixed drinks, which were extremely flavorful. However, we drained them in 2 sips, it seems. But they WERE good, and I won't detract from 5 stars for that. Overall, a very good experience. Great, authentic new Latin American restaurant. This newer restaurant is very popular at the moment - reservations are a must, especially for parties bigger than two because most tables are smaller. The cocktails were extremely well made and beautifully presented. The mixed salsa appetizer (Salsas y Tostadas) is a must to try ~10 different house-made salsas. The taco plate (Tacos de Carnitas) was the standout entree but we enjoyed them all. The flan dessert was solid. Only downside was due to popularity it was quite loud and the music bass was turned up so loud it was irritating and difficult to hear. Next time we will ask for the quieter, "secret garden" seating outside in the rear. All employees were friendly and they even squeezed us in last minute without a reservation! We had a lovely dinner at Tlalli! They advertise to be a Latin American restaurant with emphasis on Indigenous ingredients and Afro-Caribbean influences. We started with a few excellent, flavorful cocktails. The rum in the punch took me straight to the Caribbean, with notes of coconut, pineapple, and hibiscus. My favorite cocktail was the Milpa Sour, with use of ancestral corn whisky where unique lines of corn are cultivated, soaked in an alkaline solution, unlocking deeper flavors. It tasted smoky and strong. For the starters, the tostadas and salsa provided a unique experience, coming with 9 different house salsas. It was fun to try each and try to understand what made them different. The ahi tostada was also fresh and delicious. Out of the mains, the oxtail tacos were the star of the show. If you want the best of their entrees, that might be the one for you. We also got the braised pork shoulder, which came with beans, rice, and tortillas, but overall it lacked the depth of flavor that the oxtail had. Overall I wish we had more tostadas and tortillas to take on the salsas, guac, and pork shoulder. Seemed we were always running out. It's clear the restaurant has put a lot of thought into the food it wants to serve and has a strong sense of identity. I think that's a big strength, making the experience special. I would say if you're local it's worth a visit. Revisiting the restaurant will probably be more for the social experience, and less for the food, as it's tough envisioning landing a reservation for few good cocktails and tacos when it's just you and the family. read more

The corn tortillas were HOMEMADE which is a huge plus to anyone wanting to enjoy truly authentic Mexican food. The owner and waitresses were all very friendly as well. This is the second time I went. It was better the first time which used to say it was a little inconsistent. The guacamole was prepared in a nice presentation style, but the taste was as not tasty as the first time; it was less salty and lemonie. Their short rib tacos were very good and tender, but that's all you get, no sides of beans or rice, you might want to order that separately. (if they have it, I'm not sure I didn't notice. This is not your traditional Mexican restaurant, which is good, but be aware if that's what you're expecting.. read more

The food is decent. Being from Los Angeles and eating authentic Hispanic food most of my life....it's good. But the treatment was great towards us until the waitress asked us to leave...just as we were leaving. lol. Rather rude behavior to accommodate another reservation. Top 5 meal I've had this year! Newer spot in Ashland that was actually a recommendation from friends in NY. They didn't properly prepare our dining party for just HOW good the food and beverages are. We had a connection with the owner, (friends of friends), and they were SO sweet and passionate about the cuisine. The drinks have something for everyone! The spirited and bold section was the booze forward section but I opted for the Milpa sour. A take on the whiskey sour with corn whiskey, it was very delicious! You gotta get the guac and you gotta try the tortillas. All gluten free, all house made, and utterly delicious. The owner was so nice and brought over some tortas to dip in all of the sauces - just my style. The sauces had so many different flavors and spice levels, and were fun to eat with the tortillas and to pour over my duck confit mole. The mole was delicious. It was so tasty with the perfectly crisped duck. The red tortillas served with it meant I could eat so much meat and sauce and I couldn't just licked the plate. The consistency of the quality of food is 10/10. You can expect to always be greeted here like family, the waiters are goddesses with good vibes and the music and playlist is always on point. Today i had no childcare for my infant and couldn't pass up on dinner with a friend so i got to eat the most delicious food and heads nod to good music while the waiters took turns holding my baby girl even helping me figure out why she was fussy. Sadly, I have to recommend avoiding Tlalli, the new restaurant on A Street. We had a great interaction with the lady who is the better half of the owners. But then...Orders weren;t taken until 30 minutes after seating, 1st course took another half hour to arrive. We gave up at 90 minutes when the second course hadn't yet arrived. The lady owner was great and tried to make it work, and we were leaving with a "will try it again in a few months" vibe, but then the husband owner blew it with a non-apology apology and then called us arrogant as we were leaving. So sad. This is a close location for us, but we'll be avoiding them. read more

This restaurant is a marvel! Destined to become a destination eatery in Ashland. It's only been open a couple weeks and it's already packed every time we walk by. Tlalli elevates Latin cooking the way MAS and Nama elevate Asian and seafood. Fabulous cocktails, a vast array of homemade sauces, and excellent execution of main dishes. My wife and I enjoyed the tamales with Mole and the roast chicken. We shared both desserts--flan and key lime tart--both super good. Gracious and knowledgeable service.
