Delicious, authentic Mexican flavor. clean prompt service and outstanding margaritas!!! Yummy

This restaurant is conveniently located just off I-5 and next to several hotels on the East side of Ashland. We walked in at dinner time and got a great seat right away. The chips and salsa brought out were fresh and delicious. We liked the kids menu and the options that were available. We shared the molcajete and were super impressed. We were told later that most people don't finish it if they eat it alone and I believe it because the portion was so generous. The chicken and steak were thin but well cooked and seasoned. The cactus and vegetables and grilled queso were flavorful. The sauce tied everything together and the bacon wrapped shrimp was so yummy. In addition to a giant bowl of flavor, we got a plate of rice, beans, guac/sour cream/pico, and tortillas. The inside was clean and had some fun decor. The team taking care of us was attentive. The margaritas were flavorful, well priced, and tasted as fresh as the fruit in them. I plan to go back the next time we are in town to try some more of their many options. read more

So good the first time we returned on our way back home. Great decor and very friendly service from everyone. First time we arrived at 6:00 on Cinco de Mayo and their 15th anniversary. Place was packed but we were quickly seated. Great drinks, loved the 22oz frozen mug with on tap brews. The Molcajete was outstanding as was El Paraiso Plate and Pollo Poblano. Chips were fresh, crispy and warm. Salsa was very good. Guacamole was great. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had - anywhere, including trips to Mexico. El Paraiso was conveniently located right next to our hotel and therefore an easy choice for dinner. We were seated immediately in a booth that provides very little legroom with an affixed narrow table. Chips come to table with some water and ketchup that resembles salsa. May I have a spicy salsa please? Sure, answers the server. Months, perhaps years later the spicy salsa arrives. For dinner I order the El Paraiso special which has grilled chicken, grilled steak and carnitas. It comes with grilled vegetables and a fried jalapeño, rice and beans. It was actually pretty good. My wife ordered the Chili Verde and had zero complaints. Service was slow and salsa was weak which led to only a 3 star review. Food was good enough to return but service lacked which makes us think about it first. Stay tuned, there could be another visit. read more

In town for 1 night. Always live mexican food and El Paraiso did not disappoint. We love hot n spicy and the hot red salsa was hot and good. The every customer red had an amazing fresh taste. The green came hot and was kinda bland. The AguaChile stole the show. We were kinda surprised it came cold but we were blown away the presentation, taste, the heat and the flavor. The service was great and the ambiance was perfect. We sat outside patio. Only three problems with the food 1. The salsa is tangy/sweet at same time and not spicy. I say have an alternate option. 2. The chicken used in both the molcajete and pollo-a-la-diabla tasted the same, it was overcooked and rubbery, with no flavor. 3. The pitaya drink was too sweet for me. I added lemon and a bit more water. And all the other food and drink items were great and delicious, they include the rice and beans, ground beef taco is huge and tasty, enchilada is just the right size, the steak and nopales in the molcajete is tasty. This was our first visit to El Paraiso. We've traveled to this area a few times but we stayed right next door at the Holiday Inn Express this time. And how convenient to just talk a short walk through the parking lot. When I try a New Mexican Restaurant the one thing that can make or break it for me is the chips and salsa...and this restaurants is so good. We ordered the Verde Enchiladas..which my husband loved..2 kids meals of Taco Rice and beans (portions would be good for an adult) ..adding Mango Hochata drinks ..the kiddos loved everything..and I had the Mole... I always order Mole. Mole is different at every restaurant and I've had good and not so good. This was very very good. We really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere was wonderful. We will definitely stop again during our next trip through Ashland. read more

The best thing this restaurant offers is proximity to the hotel -- well that and the Cholula hot sauce (required if you want some flavor in your dish). Service was pleasant enough although perhaps a tad slow. (3- stars) Food was very disappointing (1star). Fairly bland (hence the Cholula sauce reference). I've had better prepackaged taquitos out of the freezer; the shells weren't crispy and the "shredded beef" was mushy. The chicken quesadilla was pretty average, again lacking any flavor. If you're staying in a nearby hotel (like the Holiday Inn next door). Get in your car and drive in to the Ashland city center and find other options -- it's worth it. read more

Coming from Atlanta, where you can throw a rock and hit a GREAT Mexican restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised! We asked to sit on the patio, which I learned has recently been covered. It was great! Cute lights and comfortable outdoor furniture. You're greeted with chips and salsa when you sit down-- which I didn't realize WASN'T standard practice at some Mexican establishments in the are. We ordered the queso dip. It came with tomatoes in it, which you don't really see at home, but it was good! I got the Baja fish tacos and boy was it a lot of food! I think all of our entrees were brought out on serving platters instead of regular plates. It was so much food! The fish was fried and crispy, but I wish there was just a little more of the chipotle ranch sauce and pico on top of it. The margs were good, but not very strong. read more

This establishment was very busy the day we went which we took as a good sign. It seems to be the only authentic Mexican restaurant in the area, but I could be wrong... I am so glad we found this one. We had a cheese enchilada and bean tostada plate with some queso on the side. It was all yummy and just what we needed after a long day of outdoor activities. We tried this on a whim after a long drive and we're pleasantly surprised how good it was. The Mexico Burrito was the best. Fajita burrito and mole enchiladas were also very good. We stopped for an early dinner and we really enjoyed our meals! I got the loaded nachos and my husband got the steak fajitas, which were delicious! For dessert, we tried the berry chimichanga, so good!! The restaurant is clean and looks newly remodeled inside. Nice, clean bathrooms also. Staff are friendly and attentive. We stayed next to this restaurant and, based on the reviews, gave it a try. We wanted to eat on the patio with our dog but the host was slightly discouraging, so I asked for a paper menu and we ordered take-out. The shredded chicken in both the enchiladas and taco salad was so tough and chewy as to be almost inedible. That, and while likely cooked in some spices or sauce, it was lacking in flavor. The salsa was okay. The chips were average and fresh. The refried beans were good, and the rice was good. The taco salad, apart from the very generous chicken, was fresh and good--romaine, tomatoes, shredded cheese, pinto beans. We wanted beers to go and were told all they could do were margaritas to go. read more

This place will get you by if you are passing through and would like some Mexican food. The pollo tacos weren't bad but would have been even better with some salsa verde, so it was hard to justify $5.50 per taco unless you were looking at portion vs taste ratio. Carne Asada is a solid plate full of the classic items, plus generous portions. They come with four tortillas (flour or corn). Chips are complementary. read more

Stopped here on our way back to California. It was a cold and windy evening and we were craving Mexican food. El Paraiso was exactly what we wanted. I had enchiladas with carnitas and green sauce. Chips and salsa were spot on - warm, thin, crispy chips with a flavorful red salsa Margaritas were above average - a large goblet sized margarita- I'm glad the driver refrained from ordering one I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas- they were excellent - deep, complex mole flavor - even the rice and beans were very good Everyone else enjoyed their meals as much as I did I highly recommend and will return on my next trip to Bandon read more
