How many more restaurants are you going to introduce me to before I start looking for reasons to come back every other weekend? After our community service event with The Frontliners, we decided to grab something to eat at Moxies. This was my FIRST time visiting, and let me tell you, what a first impression! Now, when I say "we," I'm talking about approximately 20 people. Yes, TWENTY! We weren't exactly a small group walking through the door! We sat outside on the patio, and I absolutely loved it! The weather was beautiful, the atmosphere was relaxing, and it was the perfect setting to unwind, laugh, and enjoy each other's company. Now, let's get into this FOOD! Dwayne ordered the steak, but for some reason, that steak kept calling MY name! And of course, I had to answer! When I tell you it was cooked to perfection, I mean juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. Every bite I had was absolutely delicious! Now, why was his steak tasting that good? I may need to order my own next time! I also tried the Hot Baked Crab Dip, and OH MY GOODNESS! Creamy, flavorful, and practically melting in my mouth. And those glazed Brussels sprouts? Another winner! At this point, I was beginning to wonder if there was anything coming out of that kitchen that wasn't delicious! Now, we need to discuss this LYCHEE MARTINI! I ordered one, enjoyed it, and ordered another! Yes, TWO! I've had my share of lychee martinis, but this was honestly one of the best I've ever tasted. Whoever was behind that bar, please know I appreciate you! And let's talk about the servers because they were absolutely AMAZING! Friendly, attentive, and on point! With approximately 20 people, that's a lot of orders and personalities to manage, but everything flowed so smoothly. They made it look effortless, and I truly appreciated that! And judging by the conversations around our tables, I wasn't the only one impressed. Everyone was talking about how amazing their food was! Between the food, drinks, exceptional service, and beautiful outdoor patio, Moxies gave me everything I could have wanted from a first visit. Houston, you have officially SOLD me! Adair Kitchen is walking distance from my apartment, so I have been there probably 5 or 6 times. Brunch and lunch are both delicious, and they do have fresh juices (although, they are a bit overpriced). The fruit salad has mint in it, which adds a little unexpected something too. Also, they have freshly prepared lemonade that they keep behind the bar that is to die for, in addition to providing mint and other herbs for their fountain drinks. During these two shifts there is no wait service, food is dropped at your table according to the number they give you at the register. Dinner service last time I was there was a bit disappointing, mostly due to the fact that the service was poor, and one of the new menu items was poorly executed. Our water glasses were left empty multiple times, having requested refills, before our server bothered to bring us our own bottle instead (given the glasses are pretty small). At this point the restaurant was not very busy, yet there were many unbussed tables throughout the dining floor as well. We tried to get our servers attention multiple times, only to have another server track him down so he could reluctantly come to our table My friend and I decided to order the new Roasted Beet appetizer which was supposed to be served with tomatoes, goat cheese, and basil. What we got was far from what was described on the menu though. The beets were pickled and cold, not roasted, there were no tomatoes, no basil, and no goat cheese. Instead it was topped with feta cheese, and another chopped green that seemed to be parsley. We would've brought this to our servers attention, but he never returned to ask us how it was. For our entree we ordered the mussels. These were delicious, good flavor, but could've been served a bit hotter. Usually I am always a fan of what I order. The bacon wrapped dates, and nut crusted brie apps are delicious, as well as their fish tacos although the refried black beans are a bit bland. The menu encompasses a lot of food preferences it seems, and always sounds appetizing. The theme of the place is cohesive and the decor emits a trendy-rustic (shabby-chic) vibe. For the gluten-free folks, their cake is swoon-worthy. They have multiple flavors of three layer cakes that are better than any gluten free cake I've had yet. Took most of mine home (so rich!) and it stayed moist and delist for days in my cake stand. Ok, enough dessert...for gluten-free meals, I enjoyed the power bowls. Fish or meat, veggies, and hot rice... I'm not a salad person, but loved this because it's more of a rice bowl than salad. Generous portions of protein on top - I took home half my bowl and enjoyed it for lunch the next day. Lunchtime can be hectic. I goto Adair's Kitchen fairly regularly, the staff (Magnolia and Aurora) is always very welcoming, considerate and accomodating, especially the amazing managers (Hannah and Desirae). They're always attentive to anything I may need and don't need. For example, they always give me extra utensils even when I mostly order finger foods and don't even need them. They make sure I always have a chair because they know I like sitting at the bar. The overall atmosphere is very pleasant, the food is clean and healthy. I eating there quite often, food is good and the service is fast. My issue with this place that the dish that I am order never came out from the kitchen the same... sometimes it's prepared different sometimes it's missing ingredients. .. one time you can have the best salad in your life, the next time it can be so bad that it leave you wonder if you are in the same restaurant. read more

If you live in the area, the key is to get on wait list before actually arriving. Getting on the wait list requires an in-person visit, and then you can show up at the appointed time. I found the tomatoes on the side a bit strongly flavored though I very much enjoyed the hollandaise sauce. The servings were on the larger side so I was full with about 3/4 of it. This was a nice spot to check out on a quiet Saturday morning, pleasant with great service and a nice feel to the restaurant. I would probably come back here!

The cilantro itself wasn't even what bothered me most. Mistakes and cross-contact happen in restaurant kitchens. Since I didn't taste it on every piece of chicken, I assumed some of it may simply have been accidentally garnished or come into contact with cilantro. What bothered me was how the chef/owner handled it. He came to my table and proceeded to tell me that what I was tasting wasn't cilantro. He insisted that I was either tasting the microgreens or green onion. I know what cilantro tastes like. I certainly know the difference between cilantro, green onion and microgreens. Instead of simply acknowledging that something could have happened in the kitchen, he spoke to me as though I didn't understand what I was tasting. Eventually, I just agreed with him because I wanted the conversation to end and wanted him away from my table. I wasn't agreeing because I suddenly believed I had mistaken green onion or microgreens for cilantro. I simply had no interest in continuing to argue with the chef/owner over what I had personally tasted in my own food. I have no interest in engaging with a man who acts like that and wants to argue. A much more professional response would have been, "I'm sorry about that. We'll replace it." That would have been the end of the matter. Instead, a minor and completely understandable kitchen mistake became an uncomfortable interaction because of the way it was handled. Food mistakes happen. I don't expect perfection. But I do expect to be treated respectfully rather than patronized and argued with over something as simple as cilantro. Unfortunately, the way the situation was handled is what left the lasting impression.Definitely not coming back. This was my third and final visit here.
