I've tried Adair Kitchen twice and I'm just not impressed. Nothing is wrong, but nothing is great. The place is super cute and gets pretty busy. I've ordered lemon artichoke soup, simple green enchiladas, green penne pasta, breakfast bowl, and farmers market skillet. The enchiladas were just okay. They definitely don't taste like authentic enchiladas, but that should be expected. The pasta was surprisingly good in the sense that it wasn't dry and had plentiful toppings. The breakfast skillet was good and the breakfast bowl was like a giant kale salad. Not really my idea of breakfast :( read more

So the process goes like this. You walk in pick up a menu or look at the menu board, order at the register, find a place to seat and wait on your food. It was good. Decided to pick this place on a whim. Glad we did. The service was fast, like scary fast. I literally order a traditional mimosa, turned my head and it appeared!!!! I really was not sure what to expect out of the AK because one, the yelp reviews are a bit all over the place, and two, I really was not sure in what context I was being summoned here which does tend to affect the mood in more ways than one. Regarding the former: Friend Kellie trashed the place with a one-ny. Friend Ako hit them with a two-fer. And Friend Gino rounded out the trio as the most optimistic, sticking them with a stiff three-bie. But other people rated them higher - at time of writing there are 266 reviews with an average rating of foursies. So they must have something going for them. Regarding the latter: this could have been anything from a friendship hangout, to a romantic date-date, to a business-guy meeting where I am supposed to get muh network on as a big man about town, to a potential new client initial consultation so long as it was the very general business planning sort of conversation that can be had in public rather than fielding specific fact-based questions about the various criminal laws as applied to an "alleged" criminal enterprise. But I can only handle so much uncertainty and I have far too active of an imagination when someone is nice to me, because it doesn't happen very often. Let's just say I put on a pair of pants for this rendezvous to cover all of the bases, even though the yelp page says the attire is 'casual' at this joint. A good lawyer isn't supposed to be casual if that's what this was; and a good romantic partner needs to demonstrate he owns somethin' other than /comfy/ basketball shorts and a lager-stained wifebeater shirt that looks like it was featured in an episode of COPS on the teevee set as recently as this morning. So we're set for most eventualities. AK is in the same Bad Randalls strip mall on the edge of San Felipe @ Sage as Ciao Bello which I get summoned to relatively frequently by one client, as if I am Crowley f/k/a Fergus Roderick MacLeod and the CB is the crossroads. Hello boys. Even though it is a large lot, there are a lot of popular places in the strip mall (and it's off San Felipe, land of all the traffic in the West) so securing parking for the Dragon can be a bit bothersome at times. Of course when there is little parking, that means a lot of people. At AK you order at the counter so expect a line, the same as you would at the Local Foods where when the line is at the door or out the door it is not worth going to at that point because of the wait time, not just because they turfed every single good beer they used to carry on draft like all of the Karbach. Ermahgerd, no kerberks? Not going back if I am paying. The scene is very much a similar replica of the Local Foods. It's a hipstery kind of semi-upscale joint, but with cutesy enough decor it's not imposing and/or cost prohibitive. You order at the counter. You go find a table. You plant your flag with the order number on a table. You get your water from the fountain area on the back wall if you so desire. You wait for your stuff to be brought to you. My dining companion mirrored my order of a latte, since it was too late in the morn for bfast and not quite the gentlesir's three martini lunching hour. $8.55 and a mixtape gets you two lattes here. They have a small patio outside for when it simmers down a bit. I think the patio would be more desirable for the noise level, even with the beggars in the parking lot, and the cars whooshing by. It was quite loud inside and there were still a few empty tables. I can't imagine how loud and unkind for casual convo this joint is on full blast. This is the first strike against them, it is just quite loud. It's hardly romantic to be shouting at someone, unless that's what floats your boat in a scary 50 shades of grey way. In which case, spend more time at church. The second main strike against them is going to come at the latte. I had read in many of the quicktips and reviews that things don't tend to come out of the kitchen "piping hot" or "warm" and sister, my latte was no different. I prefer a not-scaldy temp bev when I need to carry the thing from the bar area to the seat through a bunch of Mac power cords and hipster beard hair flying every which way, like I need to at the Blacksmith which is probs my fave for coffee in this town. However, here they bring it out to your table, so I want that thing McDonalds coffee tort suit hot. I want this thing to be as on fire as my mixtape over on the soundcloud, fam. The latte was nearly room temp, and otherwise unremarkable as far as a $4 cuppa something will take you in this life. However there's a certain amount of upcharge to live with for a place like this in this neighborhood. As Sonia addressed, there are not a ton of options in this area like we have back in my neighborhood with the Blacksmith and then the other things that are not the Blacksmith. Three stars for the AK because they have room for improvement in the latte game; and it is quite loud inside. Do better. read more

It's ok- perhaps a bit overhyped? Not 4 star... The atmosphere and interior design is very cute, and the food is just okay (though some items not so okay). Drip coffee was a bit sour, even with milk added (possibly from sitting too long in the pot just heating). French toast was dry and almost looked like regular toast. The hash brown casserole was pretty good though- flavored and mixed with a bit of cheese. I mixed my side of bacon with it and that was even better. We were able to catch brunch here on a Sunday. It was very busy but the line moves pretty quickly. There is a lot of parking but still might be hard with all the other business that are adjacent. They provided breakfast and lunch options that is very nice. I enjoyed their build your own salad. My boyfriend got the avocado chorizo toast add eggs and French toast. We were slightly overwhelmed by the fact you have to get your own table which might be hard for larger parties or when it's busy. I think it's worth checking out for yourself. read more

What's better than walking on weekend afternoon to brunch on a gorgeous, nice weathered day? We got to Adair at about 12:30 and the line was out the door. Crazy. The line went by seemingly fast and once we got to the counter, there weren't any vacant tables inside. No biggie - the outdoor patio was perfect. We were hot from our walk over and the weather outside was nice and cool. Adair Kitchen is nice because your drink is included with the price you pay for your meal. Came in the for the first time today for a late lunch with one of my friends, and I was immediately taken away by the ambiance of this restaurant. It was super chic and I loved how open the space was. Essentially, you order at the counter whenever you're ready, grab a number, and sit anywhere you please. (My friend and I didn't know this and were waiting in front for a nonexistent hostess for a couple minutes) I ordered the turkey burger with sweet potato fries, and let me tell you, they were GOOD! The burger was juicy and tender, with a slight smoky flavor. The sauce and veggies for the burger came on the side (essentially a deconstructed burger), but this is nice for those who are more picky about their toppings I guess! The pestomayonaisse sauce was only okay, could have been much better. The sweet potato fries were thick cut and fried to a perfect crisp. I couldn't stop eating them even after I was full! Best thing- the burger- reported to be the best ever had! Turkey meatloaf had mediocre ratings from the table and was left behind but I thought it was great- it was crunchy! I loved the thin sliced over cooked texture., I had the glass noodles with shrimp - taste was great. Portion especially in the noodles was sparse. I ordered without bell peppers due to allergy and they were still there- waiter argued they were carrots. Eventually persuaded to correct but someone else had to test the "carrots" to declare they were indeed bell peppers. Yes the waiter entered the order correctly. It just wasn't made correctly. My cocktail took a very long time to arrive. Another person at our table ordered the kale and quinoa bowl. It was so flavorless it should have been a side instead of an entree. So boring. Going back? I don't know . Lots of other choices in this area. Sad experience. Timing- early dinner 5:30 on a Saturday. Three tables occupied- tops. You order at the counter get a number and it comes out so there is no table service. I was feeling kind of hungover so I got a juice, called think pink . Did not live up to the hype The food was cold, two ppl at my table ordered the chicken and waffles, but only one was served. We waited a few mins with the number still at our table but no one checked in. Finally, I flagged a server down I could barely tell him what we needed it was as if he ran by Anyway, my pancake was burnt, I've never seen such a flat and flavorless omelet, and the chicken with the waffle was extremely bland. I went to Adair Kitchen for brunch and, after quite a long wait in line, found myself pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm of the staff. The space is large and open and there is plenty of parking around. Orders are taken at the counter after which you can seat yourself wherever you like. After reviewing the menu and loving a lot of the options, we settled on omelettes and decided to sit outdoors. The servers found us easily and we didn't have to wait very long for our meals. Both omelettes were quite delicious, my only disappointment being that the turkey bacon wasn't crispy. The hash browns were done just right and the omelettes were the perfect kind of fluffy. The cappuccinos we ordered were also well made, albeit very strong (be warned). This is the perfect spot to go on a date, take your mom to brunch or go with your spouse and all of your children. There is something for everyone on the menu and you can be as casual or as formal as you like. All in all, this was a very pleasant experience and I plan on repeating it at some point soon. I've never been a fan of the whole standing in line to place your order and then be seated thing; so I typically order it to go or via door dash. Sunday brunch is also pretty popular here! There is almost always a line out the door but it seems to move pretty quickly. I love the super food bowl with salmon. (No almonds) The ginger dressing is to die for but make sure you order extra on the side. The kale can be pretty dry and hard to swallow if you run out of dressing. This morning I ordered an omelette with Chorizo, shredded cheese and tomatoes a side of hash browns and a cafe Mocha. Food and drink arrived promptly, warm and presented well. Serves were efficient and friendly. Food was well seasoned and cooked to perfection, flavoring was excellent. My pet peeve toast being done right was appeased as my sour dough toast was spot on. Well I must say that it started at the for me door! We ordered our food an the server that took our order at the front desk was extremely rude! I mean extremely rude I'm not gonna go as far as to put his name on blast, but his people skills sucked! Now about the food, my boyfriend's food was cold, his cheese was not even melted on his eggs, and his waffles was cold, he had the bacon waffles. Aesthetic: cute! Reminds me of my favorite Brunch spot from Austin that has closed down. Food: is always a hit for me. I haven't had anything I don't like from the menu. Kinda disappointed w/this place. We ordered a few things.... Chicken & waffles- waffles were nothing special, it was okay... a little soft. & chicken tenders were dry. I ended up taking it off & eating it separately. I thought there was supposed to be a lime taste & didn't taste nor spot any cilantro w/ it as described on the menu. Egg croissant sandwich- we ended up not even eating this, didn't seem appealing. The croissant was soft/soggy. Possibly due to heat from the scrambled eggs. Plating was messy (refer to pic I took when it came out). Their take on hashbrown was interesting/different. I enjoyed a couple bites out of it. Taste like maybe cheese mixed in there? Lukewarm though. Side of bacon- NOT EVEN WARM AT ALL. Looked like it's been just sitting there for awhile before served to us. Definitely would've enjoyed it if served fresh though. Overall, I didn't like how their plating was not "clean" & their food was just okay.... cashier also forgot to give us a cup to get coffee so we had to get back up to retrieve one after waiting awhile because this was our first time here & didn't know we get coffee ourselves as the cashier didn't inform us.
