I was a fan of their vegan chili which came with a good amount of tortilla chips. I also liked their LB Rice Bowl because it included apples and dates plus that lemon vinaigrette. Open air seating was had and if you sat outside on the weekend, you'd get the music from The Bungalow from upstairs all while Active Culture had their own music playing. This is a great place to eat healthy! I had the Grassroots Burger and my honey bun had the Lentil Goodness Bowl. We did switch plates half way thru. Lol! Came here after day 1 of Long Beach Strong Beach because there was a 50% off coupon in my swag bag and I'm honestly sad they're closing! The good: I struck gold because today was it was 50% off for locals day! They didn't check your address or anything. I think it just applied for anyone who came. It was a great deal and the place was bustling. I the LB rice bowl and a saucy bbq burrito. The burrito came with a side of tortilla chips that my 1 year old enjoyed. It didn't have meat but I didn't feel like I was missing anything. The flavors were balanced and the ingredients were nutritious. We got a table number and our food was brought out to us. The lemon essence water was nice and the self-serve condiment station was cool too. I liked the fresh flowers on the table and the modern and trendy feel of the entire space. The bad: The prices are a little on the higher end. My husband and I couldn't locate the exact location for a long time. We were in the plaza but didn't know where the shop was until we saw an advertisement sign stating the cross streets of the shop. I initially came here to try the Honey-Lavender Bloom Shake. The smoothie is overpriced at around $10. Considering the price I don't think it's worth it. I tasted more coconut than lavender which was overpowering and not to my taste. The burrito was okay, nothing super special. This was one of my favorite restaurants at PCH&2nd. I was SO excited when they came in, and they left without saying goodbye, which is heartbreaking. I made the drive down here expecting to order the Wholesome Bowl after seeing some of my favorite Youtubers try it out but the burritos were calling my name this morning. So, I ended up changing my mind and ordering the Breakfast Burrito and the House Burrito (which came with a side of chips) for brunch instead. The breakfast burrito was DENSE. Despite it being so heavy in weight, it didn't feel heavy while eating it. It was so good that I finished the whole thing in one sitting and felt satisfied. It's packed with nutritious ingredients so I felt really healthy eating it too. I also tried a few bites of the House Burrito and this one seemed like your typical taco fillings just stuffed into a burrito. It was good but I liked my own burrito better. Excited to try a new bougie wholesome foods/smoothie joint and this place didn't disappoint! The whole experience is how you'd expect, nothing went awry and the people were nice. Parking: Active Culture shares parking with a whole plethora of businesses. There are 30min parking spots right in front of the shop but if you intend on staying there a little longer, there's a parking structure and the entrance is on the left side of Active Culture but will require payment if staying for more than an hour I believe. Service: great friendly employees! Upon entering the store, my eyes gravitated toward the huge menus hanging from the ceilings but the employee working there told me there is a larger more comprehensive menu near the entrance. Food: the smoothie selection isn't huge by any means, honestly a lot of the smoothies felt like they were quite similar to one another but I settled on the Blue-Green Envy since it had some greens. I asked the employee if there was a way to pack more greens into the smoothie and she said I could add spinach to it since it already had kale. Keep in mind that adding the spinach is an additional $1.50. For an almost 11 dollar smoothie, it was alright. A bit pricey in my opinion but I really appreciate that this smoothie wasn't too banana-forward much like other smoothie places. There were even some nice bits of cacao nibs to munch on in the smoothie. The straws they used do get soggy if you wait too long, would appreciate a more durable straw for drinks I tend to take longer to consume. Would I come here again? Only if I'm already in the area. It's pretty pricey for what it is and the selection feels a bit small. Would love to see a smoothie with more variety of greens. There is a 5% surcharge added to the bill to 'offset increases in costs of goods' etc. From a $8 smoothie to almost $11, I would come here if I've exhausted other options in the area. read more
