The environment was light hearted and fun to be around and the food was delicious. I would like to emphasize that you MUST have a reservation for here and that even if you call and are told there is a table for you, there likely will not be, so just make a reservation. Excellent, excellent, excellent. Down to earth, great COVID protocols, and tasty food. Made reservations for a Friday night via OpenTable--since you can't specify patio vs. not, we had to wait ~20 minutes for a patio seat. There are several breweries in the area, so you can easily kill time at one of them. In addition to ample spacing on the patio, the restaurant does a temperature check, staff wears masks, and indoor capacity seemed limited, so they were doing about all they could to be conscious of the pandemic. A friend and I split 2 apps (elote and nachos) and 2 entrees (scallops and salmon). The apps were great--elote wasn't burnt and the pieces of corn were rather large and the nachos had real cheese and a good chip to topping ratio. The entrees were also very good--lots of flavor and good texture in both of the dishes. Our server was extremely friendly but very slow, which is about the only negative thing I can say about Acova. Loved the food here. Got the benedict biscuit sandwich and friends got the fried chicken (brunch chick) and burrito. The Benedict biscuit sandwich (served open-face) was a top tier eggs benny dish. My eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise sauce was excellent. We also all split the apple doughnuts which were so delicious! Alex, our server, was perhaps the best server I have ever experienced in my life. EVERYTHING that the four of us ordered was outstanding. Calimari (not fried) in something like a Puttanesca sauce, the wings (perfectly crispy skin) short ribs, fried chicken, a grilled romaine Ceasar salad, the cocktails, and deep fried apple "donuts", and bread pudding. So listen. I had a really hard time between three and four stars. I decided on three and I'll tell ya why. When we arrived there were not many tables inside or outside. We wanted a patio table but none were clean so they sat us in a booth inside. No big. I'll survive. I feel like they could've cleaned an outside table for us but like I said, I'll survive. We ordered a couple drinks, wings, a Cobb Salad and the short ribs. The drinks were not too shabby, I enjoyed mine. The wings were crispy and well sauced and I thought okay, this is good! The Cobb salad tasted good and hit the spot. I don't know if any place can truly mess up a cobb salad though. The ingredients were really fresh so I definitely appreciated that. The downfall of this meal was the entrée. The beef short rib. Yikes. My man and I decided on this entrée because it's the one the server suggested. However we were both quite disappointed. The presentation was gorgeous. But the beef was seriously lacking flavor. It was also overdone and chewy. I just couldn't get past it. I added salt. SALT. I rarely add seasonings to my food because I believe it should be eaten as how the chef prepared it. But oh my they really screwed this one up. I honestly couldn't believe it. Same for the risotto. Seriously lacking flavor. So there's that. I think entrees should be the star of the show when you're eating your meal and this was far from it. The server was very nice, I think he was newish. Great food, especially as someone that eats gluten free. Only complaint is the food was cold. If they could fix that, it would be top notch.

DRINKS: BURROS OVER JALISCOS- the jalapeño tequila gives you that back-of-the throat sting with every sip, which is nice if you're into that sort of thing, but the rest of the flavors were lost in this drink. Also, it was extremely weak for the cost. ($10) PAINKILLER- Super yummy! Kinda like a piña colada in flavor. Rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, nutmeg powder on top. It was sweet and creamy, probably a better end-of-the-meal drink imo. ($9) FOOD: SOUP OF THE DAY- cauliflower, ummmm, some other stuff? Honesty this soup was so delicious that I gobbled it up without looking too closely at it. I wanna say maybe carrots? Something green? I don't know. Doesn't matter. Eat it. ($3/cup, $6/bowl) NACHOS- Got them vegetarian and with extra cheese bc I'd heard on another review that the cheese is sparse. Yes, ask for extra cheese for sure! These nachos were great! The homemade chips themselves were thicker and had a different flavor than what you come to expect from nacho chips, but we both liked these better. Very flavorful combinations: white beans are a unique twist on the usual black bean nachos, the avocado cream, cotija, jalapeño, etc. The nachos surprised us with how good they were! ($10) GNOCCHI MICHOACÁN- Before I review these, I have to come clean. My Italian granny made the best gnocchi in the world. So while I'm always wanting to try gnocchi at various places, I'm always comparing it to an impossibly high standard and am left disappointed. This time was no exception. The gnocchi themselves were cooked very well and had the right texture, however what it was paired with was flavorless. That's surprising because it was paired with jalapeños and peppers. The corn and the cotija brought the best flavor to the dish, but still overall it was just bland and disappointing. ($12) VEG OUT WRAP- The husband got this, it looked ok although there didn't seem to be a big variety of veggies filling the wrap. He enjoyed it and it was pretty large, portion-wise. The fries were great and there were a ton of them! Fresh and hot and well-seasoned thinly sliced fries. ($12) APPLE DONUTS- Hell. Yes. Best part of the meal. The texture of the donut mmmmmmm you've just got to try it. The only thing I'd say is ask for a bit extra of the caramel drizzle on it- it was very tasty and I wanted more. Pretty much a perfect dessert! ($7) BERRY COBBLER- While it was flavorful, the ratio of cooked berries (along with the resulting jelliness) to the honey oat crust to the ice cream is waaaayyyy off. There needs to be way more of the crust and ice cream and waaaaay less of the berry mixture. I mean, no matter how we tried to stretch and ration the other components of crust and cream, we were frustrated at every turn and were still left with a huge bowl of sweet sloppy berries at the end, just there all lonely by themselves, that we sadly couldn't eat. I just wanted to share my experience. I also think it's great that you support local non-profits. I always like to hear about businesses supporting their community. I did want to note that the email address you contacted me on is my personal email address, not my work email address, and that it is not listed on my company website as you mentioned. I will edit the portion about waiting 15 minutes for the appetizer because in the owner's email she sent screenshots of time stamped video footage of me and my boyfriend at the bar. Although the appetizer was delivered quickly (which I miswrote below - I apologize), we did have to wait quite some time to place our entree order. The owner also told me that after watching the footage we never waived. Waived was the wrong word to use (she is correct), however, my boyfriend and I did ask each other a couple times if we needed to flag someone down to place our order. Instead of doing this, we said excuse me the other bartender who wasn't originally helping us, and asked if we could place our order because we had been waiting for a bit. The owner also mentioned that I looked happy/was laughing in the video footage and that we ate the food, so she didn't understand why I didn't complain. I was enjoying the company of my boyfriend and didn't feel the need to get angry over my experience, plus I was hungry and I hate sending things back. She is right in that I should've said something, but I didn't, and that is my fault. With those corrections made, I still feel the same way about my review. When the owner emailed me, she asked me to consider taking down my review. Respectfully, I won't be removing my review. I joined Yelp because it is a community forum based off of subjective opinions and individual experiences where reviewers share their thoughts. Each person's experience varies and not all reviews are going to be positive. After the edits above, I feel that I have accurately shared my thoughts. We were greeted pretty quickly, but after we got our drinks we had to wait at least 15 minutes to just order an appetizer, and we had to waive at the bartenders to get their attention (I hate having to motion for someone because it just seems so rude). The same thing happened when we went to order our entrees and when our water glasses were sitting empty. There were only 4 other people at the bar, so it was odd to have to wait for so long. We decided to order the beer cheese appetizer. It was ok. The cheese wasn't that great, but cheese is cheese. We moved onto the short ribs and chicken piccata pasta. We were torn between the fried chicken and the pasta, but the bartender said the pasta was one of the best things on the menu, so we went for it. Not a good decision. The pasta was overcooked, the dish was a mess, and the chicken didn't look like it was cooked well (see the picture I posted). Fast forward a couple hours later and I got sick multiple times. Should've sent it back when it tasted funny, but again didn't want to be rude. The short ribs were pretty good, but nothing to write home about. We did like the risotto. Favorite neighborhood restaurant. This is our go to place to bring guest for a casual/semi nicer dinner with good cocktails. We've tried most everything on the menu and not been disappointed with the exception of the parmesan cauliflower which is tasty but pretty small for the price tag. This was a really good meal in a place with a cool atmosphere. Service was absolutely top notch and everything came out super quickly. I got the lobster Mac. It was good, but not a dish I would go out of my way to come back for. I will say it did have plenty of lobster and didn't overwhelm that flavor with the sauce or anything. My wife got the fried chicken with the cayenne honey sauce. It was a dish I would go way out of my way for. The sauce is just ridiculously good. There are two things I would do with the dish though: 1. Chicken needed to be seasoned, couldn't tell that it had been salted at all. 2. The mashed potatoes and sausage gravy were good, but make so sense in terms of the overall dish composition. I would do something like half or quarter some fingerlings and fry them up, coarse sea salt, and serve with a side of the sauce that goes on the chicken. Makes way more sense overall, and I want every opportunity to have more of the sauce. I say all that knowing full well it is unsolicited and I am just some dude off of the street. read more

It's been over a week since eating at Acova and I'm still having daydreams about it! I was blown away by how affordable the dishes and wine list was! My girlfriend and I split a bottle of Malbec for $28! That's damn near unheard of in a nice restaurant in the Highlands. She had the brussel sprouts and kale salad and I had the bacon burger without the bug with a side salad. My friend is also still talking about how good and filling the salad was. The burger was cooked perfectly and the bacon was a maple glaze that was absolutely delish! This might have been the best keto meal I've have in a long time. The atmosphere was nice without it being too loud and I loved the feel of the restaurant with hanging plants everywhere. Do yourself a favor and come to Acova! Acova's apple donuts and gluten-free options are phenomenal! I've had my eye on Acova for quite some time and I am so happy we finally had the chance to come by. First of all, 90% of Acova's menu is either gluten free already or can easily be made gluten free. Since my husband has celiac sprue, we are always on the look out for great gluten-free restaurants. We came to Acova for brunch and had their dixie buttermilk-battered fried chicken and prime rib hash. Both were great, although we enjoyed the prime rib hash more. Both dishes also came with gluten-free biscuits, which my husband loved. He even ate my biscuit! A table near us ordered the avocado toast which looked amazing and absolutely loaded with delicious-ness! Next time, next time. For dessert we shared the apple donuts, which are breaded and fried apples topped with vanilla bean ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle. Oh my goodness - honestly, we both agreed that we would have these apple donuts over gluten free donuts anytime! (or in my case, I'd rather have an apple donut over a normal donut too). Totally could have ordered two, they were that amazing. The apple donuts were hands down my favorite. We'll have to drop by another time to try their dinner menu! Okay - I'm SUPER mad at myself for NOT taking pictures of ALL the amazing dishes!! We had gnocchi & calamari (more of a soup which was kinda weird), Turkey & Brie panini w/spicy soup, lobster Mac-n-chz (DELISH but very rich), Fried chicken plate (AMAZING!), Buffalo chicken wrap, little corn on the cobs and the tuna tostada. Not bad! I think the prices match the food and service we received which is a plus. We got alot of food, and tried most things. The deviled eggs are amazing! From spicy, sweet, savory. You get so much in those eggs, I highly recommend getting them. And I don't like deviled eggs but they were my favorite. Drinks were ok, but not badly priced. We got several entrees. And I was not a bag fan of the lack of seasoning. I know it's hard as a cook to balance that seasoning. But our entrees really lacked flavor. I never grab salt at restaurants but I did for our entrees. If they added seasoning, it would have been an outstanding experience. But the main courses really needed some seasoning. First time here for a Friday night with the girls before hittin the town. We each ordered a glass of wine and our server was so helpful describing her favorites and recommending a few others. Next came the meal choices! I got the Turkey & Brie Panini and it was pretty good, my friend got the Havana Panini and the was really tasty! I might have enjoyed the Havana more than mine, since the Brie was like a cheese overload with not a lot of turkey flavor. Visited Acova for a family birthday celebration. Our party had a fair number of gluten free people and Acova offered many GF selections. We ordered a variety of appetizers for the table including deviled eggs, calamari and mussels. The first order of deviled eggs were overcooked and tough, but the second order was pretty good. The calamari does not live up to it's "Fra Diavolo" name... although tasty, it was not spicy at all. The mussels were well cooked and the broth was very tasty. Our group ordered a wide variety of entrees, including Turkey Brie Panins, Beef Short Ribs, Honey Stung Fried Chicken and Icelandic Cod. The brie panin was okay.... but the sweet potato fries were great. The honey stung friend chicken was pretty good but could have used a lot more of the spice honey sauce. I was told that the short ribs and cod were good. We also had the Flourless Chocolate Torte and the berry cobbler. The torte was tasty but the berry cobbler had a gritty topping which I did not enjoy, but others were fine with it. The do have an awesome outdoor playground for children. What a fantastic experience. We walked in expecting a very very irritating experience but it was anything but that. This place is located in a very hipster part of town. While we don't have anything against these styles of place we just haven't had the best experience with these style of places. We were greeted by a couple of very friendly staff members. While they were not the hostess they did try to find us seating. They confirmed with the hostess and we were sat immediately. When we were seated they laid a page on our table that made us aware we were on a time limit due to the current COVID restrictions. Because we have experienced this before we were already very hesitant. So much so that my husband even responded with, "I should set a timer so when they try to rush us out we can say it took 15 minutes before anyone even got our drink order." Very quickly he was eating his words. Within 3 minutes of being seated Meghan, our waitress, was at our table introducing herself and asking if we had any questions. We asked for waters and I asked her what cider they currently had. She informed me of it and even offered to bring a sample for me to try. I stated to her if that was the only cider they had that I would just take a Dirty Chia. She was also very honest with the cider they currently have has not been a hit. I love honesty and the fact she offered a sample. The Dirty Chia is a game changer. I'm not one that likes super strong drinks. This drink was a great balance. No one think over powered the other. I enjoyed it so much I screen shotted it just to be able to remember what it was. *I should also say I am SUPER picky on my alcoholic beverages and my coffees. A few minutes later my Dirty Chia was at our table and Meghan was there ready to take our order. We had questions about a few of the food items and each question she answered. I ordered the fish and chips. I was given the options of: regular fries, sweet potato fries, chips, salad or soup. And guess what - when I choose the sweet potato fries there wasn't an up charge!!! I love it!!!!! My husband ordered the Bread Pudding French Toast. He had questions regarding the sides and asked for sausage instead of bacon. They did not have traditional sausage but once again Meghan listed out options. Again I love this!!! He did decide to keep with the bacon. My fish and chip were great. The battering of the fish was very light. The one thing I would say was it was a little more greasy than I like but that did not take away from it at all. I think the fish was cod and even if wasn't the fish had a great taste to it. It absolutely did not have a fishy taste. My husband even tried the fish and s.p. fries and enjoyed them. My husband said his bread pudding French toast was great. He was super excited about the bacon too. He isn't a big fan of restaurant bacon because it's usually such a think cut of meat. But this was a thicker cut and he said had a great flavor. The pieces of French toast look like they maybe small but they were the perfect size with the added sides. Our final bill came to $42.12. My drink was $9, Fish and Chips $16, and French Toast $14. These are prices we feel are very on point. Also didn't feel like we were getting nickeled and dimed for every little thing. My husband could not be more happy with the food and the experience. At the end I asked to speak to the shift manager to compliment them for the amazing experience. I think managers always hear the bad from people and people should take the time to tell them the good too. Layla is the shift manager I spoke to and she was just as kind and friendly as everyone else had been. When we are in the area in the future this will definitely be on the radar to stop again. I came here for brunch with a group of friends and first impression of Acova was that it was a cute, well designed restaurant. Very bright with lots of windows and plenty of space. We all tried different things and the brunch menu had a good assortment of savory options. The highlight for me was the drink menu. I ended up selecting the classic mimosa, making it a double ($3 v $5, no brainer) which is a great deal. The meals were hit and miss. My breakfast burrito was pretty dry, mostly potato with the green chili (which was good) drizzled on the outside. The fried chicken dish was good, but the biscuit was incredibly dry and chalky. Overall I think most of us thought the food was ok, but not stellar. Our waitress seemed a little frustrated to be working with a group. My FAVORITE restaurant in Denver! The crab cakes, fish and chips, and beer cheese dip are my favorites. Also, it's a gluten-free haven.
