I had a very disappointing experience with this tailor and will not be returning. I had been a regular customer for months, dropping off items for alterations on a consistent basis, which made this experience even more frustrating. I came in for a fitting and spent approximately 45 minutes in the store both waiting and trying on garments while one of my garments was pinned and marked. After all of that time, I was informed there would be a two-week turnaround time- far longer than what I've experienced elsewhere for standard alterations. What was most frustrating was that one of the items I spent time trying on and having pinned couldn't even move forward because the tailor needed the pins back. In other words, I spent a significant amount of time during the fitting process for absolutely no reason. Had this been communicated upfront, it would have saved everyone time. The entire experience felt disorganized and poorly managed. As a repeat customer, I was genuinely appalled by the lack of professionalism, communication, and respect for my time. Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward alteration appointment turned into a frustrating and unnecessary waste of nearly an hour. Wow. Stopped in here for a tiny alteration that will likely take less than 5 minutes. They quoted me $50!!! And two weeks to get the item (if I wanted it in a week, there would be an additional upcharge). That seemed crazy to me so I drove up the road (about 1.5 miles to Zips) to see what they said. Zips charged me $25 (literally half the price) and said they could have it ready in 5 days (less than half the time). Bottom line, if you are up for the 3 minute drive, you can get your items altered for half the price in less than half the time. read more

Too expensive and unreliable. I brought in a dress for alterations and came in three weeks later on the day after I was told to pick up. The dress wasn't ready but no one contacted me. I came back at the time they specified later in the day and was asked to wait for 20 minutes. 60 minutes later I am finally leaving with my dress. There are many tailors in Austin who charge less and have better customer service. I will not be back. read more

I have used this location twice in the past week. Received excellent service both times. First, I needed a formal floor length gown altered same day. It was a high low dress so was not a straightforward hem. They did a fantastic job in just a few hours at a reasonable price. On second visit, I ran in during the work day because I somehow managed to split open the seat of my pants while at the office and did not have time to go home for replacement pants. They sewed the seam back together in just a matter of minutes while I waited even though they had several other customers there at the same time. Very happy customer here! I'll be back! read more

I stopped by a couple of weeks ago to drop off a dress, I just needed a few inches taken off the bottom. The location is super convenient and the people that work there are very nice. However, I was quoted an extremely high price for such a simple service AND was told it would be nearly a week and a half before my dress would be ready. Also, it took a very long time to be helped at the store both when I dropped off my dress and when I picked it up. While I am satisfied with the work they performed on the dress, I do not plan on returning -- the high prices are not worth having to wait so long to get your item back. There are cheaper tailors in town who can get your clothes back to you in that same time frame if not before. read more

I thought I had ruined my wife's favorite jacket. I washed it and when I zipped it up the zipper broke. She was so upset. My boss recommended Ace when I explained the situation to him. Today I stopped by on my lunch break hoping they could remove the faulty zipper and put in a new one. Maybe have it back in a week. I kid you not the gentleman that was working there looked at the jacket, gave it a few tries, and then popped of the old latch. Then in just a few minutes he installed a new one and the jacket was good a new. The price was fair and I am still very grateful. read more

Terrible experience! First of all, get ready to experience the slowest service EVER. I made an appointment at 12pm for a fitting. Walked in to a line of 10 people in front of me. Waited for 20 minutes to be helped. Not once did they ask if anyone had an appointment to bypass the line. Why even bother making an appointment? When I got to the front desk, the two women working acted like I was bothering them. They're not friendly at all, as other reviewers have pointed out. No apologies for the wait after I had booked an appointment, nothing. The first thing they say is "it's going to be two weeks until your clothes will be ready". Okay, fine. I then had to change into the clothes, wait in line to be measured, then wait in line AGAIN to drop them off at the front desk. The whole experience took close to 45 minutes when it should've been less than 10. I return two weeks later after they texted me my order was complete, and they had not finished the tailoring! Two garments were not shortened, which is the main reason I had taken them in. I got a half-ass apology and they did give me 20% off, but this place is definitely not worth the hassle! read more

What a great place. I had a slight seam tear in a shirt. Stopped by and asked them if they could fix it quickly. That they did. When I asked to pay they said it was too small to charge for. I've been using Ace for decades (in their old place next to the Tavern when a great old magician in Austin owned it). Still a great place. Go there! read more

I had a leather shirt that I wanted taken in to fit my torso, and Ace did a great job. It was ready for pickup on the date they promised and it fits perfectly. I was looking for a place that could fix a zipper on my daughter's dance jacket very quickly. I drove over during my lunch break with the jacket. The nice lady at the front desk took the jacket to the back of the store for someone to look at. She came back 5 minutes later with the zipper fixed!! I'm very dissatisfied with the quality of work here. They ruined one pair of jeans ($250) by making them too short and the other was ok. Neither had the waist taken in which is what i really needed. The customer service was cold and rushed. I paid $40 to ruin my $250 jeans, what a joke. Would not recommend. read more

This is a great business. I've tried a handful of places around Austin for various kinds of alterations over the past 10 years. Ace is outstanding. Suits, shirts, pants, jeans, a leather jacket, etc. Their staff are friendly and professional. The sewing work is exactly right on the money....every time. The pricing is a little higher than other places but you definitely get what you pay for here. Waiting a week is normal but they always say yes if I ask for a rush (with a small up charge). For me, I have peace of mind and never worry about my clothes turning out right. Highly recommended. read more

I'm always very uncomfortable here. It's pretty obvious they treat BIPOC differently. There have been numerous times that they will help others before myself and other people of color, even stopping mid transaction to help their more preferred customer base. I don't think they are intentionally rude, it's more unconscious bias, but I feel the difference and it sucks. It's the little things, like my items are never ready on time, customers who walk in after me are helped first, I'm walked away from mid sentence. I guess I need to find a new place. read more

Not that great and Very Expensive. The woman at the counter today was so rude. They wanted to charge me way too much to shorten a curtain. They have done some things for me in the past and the work was fine. I really hope the staff is getting good pay and benefits but with that bad attitude I bet they don't. I came here once for a bridesmaid dress alteration because it was close to my work and on my way home. I had heard good things about their work and the pricing but was disappointed when I went myself. I asked for one alteration to be done on the dress, and the woman, hiding nothing on her face, told me I needed 3 other things done and even asked me if I bought the wrong size dress on accident. A dress I felt confident and comfortable in, was now a dress that apparently needed much more work according to her wide eyes and rude comments. Overall the one alteration I asked for was done well, but I was not impressed with their customer service and left feeling less confident than ever read more
