I was referred to Lee's Tailors by someone I met in Austin, but his prices were high and I didn't appreciate his attitude towards me when I felt I had a genuinely reasonable ask. He altered a couple pieces of mine, but when I tried them on, two of them needed adjustments. He did a great job, but one of the pieces wasn't as tight as we originally measured, and he admitted it was his fault. When I asked for the second piece to be tighter, he didn't receive it well because I was to blame. He was annoyed and frustrated about my ask, and it made me sad and uncomfortable. I didn't want to go back there knowing I had to guess the perfect fit right on the first try. Keep in mind, I was not upset with him at all for his genuine mistake on the other piece. I feel like various things could play a role in requesting a size adjustment (like if I had a big lunch that day or genuinely wish it was an inch tighter). It's why places ask us to try on the pieces they fix. It won't always be perfect the first time. Because of this, he was very dismissive and barely made eye contact with me when I went to pick up both pieces the second time. I felt like it wasn't the kindest way of going about it, as I've had a hairstylist spend a few more hours on my hair, for free, on fixing certain parts of it. I love her and still go back to her because she fully believes in the notion of spoiling her clients, or making them feel confident and happy. The parents may be great, but don't let the son do your work. He's freaking terrible. I've talked to the kid twice, and just expected he was doing counter work. He is apparently learning the trade and terrible !! I've had to take ever single thing he's done back. Simple stuff just coming apart. Seam totally missing the hem, front and back of seam not connected so it just falls apart, etc. It's just poor poor work. Insist on the parents or don't bother. More trouble than it's worth. I am so happy I found Lee's Custom Tailors! I really needed a bridesmaids dress altered. the slit on the side basically went to my hip bone and would've been quite inappropriate if I didn't do something. Well I was turned down by two other tailors because it's a tight dress and the slit was at an angle so they said there was nothing they could do. I was so stressed but luckily I found Lee's. They agreed with the other tailors, couldn't just close the slit it would stretch the fabric and change the shape BUT they were the only ones that thought of a solution. They came up with a brilliant idea to use a little fabric from the train to make an extra layer and I am so happy to say it worked perfectly. I took a few dress shirts into Lee's Custom Tailors several months ago and they did an excellent job. The other day I took a suit in that was large for me and had been tailored previously, and they gave me good honest feedback about the limitations of what they could do to tailor it further, and recommended I get a new one which was the right call. I appreciated them giving honest advice (and losing business) instead of trying to force the tailor job. This place is good for the cost! Took about a week to get my bridesmaid dress altered. A thing to note, make sure you call ahead to make sure that your piece is done. They are usually pretty good about it being done by a specific date, but they DON'T call you when it's ready. So don't expect them to be calling you. Other than that, the staff was friendly, the place was clean. There were a few strings and things that could have been better and cleaned up, but overall it gets the job done. read more

I highly recommend Lee's Customer Tailors & Alterations for anyone looking to tailor, alter or re-size some clothing that needs to fit better or be fixed. I have taken pants and shorts to be hemmed and brought shirts and pants for tailoring due to basic wear and tear (e.g., small hole, pocket wearing out). In total, I have had them work on around 6 items over the last year or so. I have had great results each time and now go in confident that I'm going to get something good when I come back. The Lee's run a professional shop and definitely take their work seriously. While the Lees do not speak "great" English, the woman who runs the front of the shop has clearly understood everything I've asked for and about and has good command of basic English. It certainly has never caused me any problems in ordering and picking up. Reviewers who say otherwise are exaggerating in my opinion. I'll be taking clothing to Lee's soon and recommend you do the same if interested. read more

I took a jumpsuit to Lee's that I needed the waist cinched in on and the straps shortened. I said I needed it on a specific date, 8 days out, and they said that was no issue. I went back to pick it up on that day in the afternoon and was told it wasn't ready. I had to go back the following day before leaving on a trip to get it, but they gave me a discount due to the lateness. The waist fit perfect, but the straps were not as short as they should have been when measured/pinned. They did great work though, so I would take clothing back there. read more

I've been to Lee's four times and the first two times were good, but the last two times have been bad enough for me to swear off going to it, even though it's right around the corner from my office. The biggest blow was last Saturday. I took in a dress to get a new zipper on Wednesday and requested that it be done by Saturday for a wedding I had that same night and she said she would charge me more for a rush order which is fine. I asked to make sure they were open on Saturday and she said yes. She didn't tell me that they close 4 hours earlier than they do on weekdays. I showed up at 3pm and no one was there. I had to scramble to find a new dress and when I picked the dress up on Monday after the event I got no apology from them for not telling me they have different Saturday hours. She still charged me the rush fee. When I showed up Saturday I noticed that there were no business hours on the door and I never got a phone call telling me my garment was done. I know I could have been more responsible and asked for Saturday hours, but honestly I think decent customer service should be letting people know if your schedule changes only one day of the week. There's a huge language barrier at this place and I've seen other customers try to complain to her, but she just stares at them because I don't think she can understand. So instead of arguing with the lady I just paid full price and decided to never go back. read more

I've used Lee's several times due to their proximity to my office downtown. Their prices are competitive, and often cheaper than Ace, plus they do a clean, professional job and I like supporting a local business. However, I should caution that they do have a major problem with timeliness. Their estimates for jobs as simple as a pant hem can be as long as 7-8 days, twice as long as other local tailors. Today, I had an unfortunate experience of coming back after 7 days to discover that not only was the job not completed, but aside from initial measuring, had yet to be even started. Worse than that, they had apparently separated my order, not realizing that they had 4 pairs of pants, not 2. After a lot of apologizing, they swore the job would be completed by end of day. When I came back at 6, the job was only half done. Too their credit, the young man who worked there offered to complete the job himself that evening and hand deliver them to my house, but I told them I'd rather they do the job right than have them rush it after starting so late. Overall, they do a solid job, at decent prices, but even with a longer than average turnaround time, they have problems with deadlines. read more

Great local business. I had a couch cover with a zipper 5ft long that had broke in the washer. Because of the length it was going to cost $60 and take 2 weeks to order. Lee's was able to fix it for $10 and only took a couple of days. Great customer service. I definitely recommend them. read more

I've been twice between 8:15 and 8:30 and they have not been open yet. Their posted hours are from 8-6 Mon-Fri. Could I go back in the day? Sure, but parkjng's a nightmare and it's hard to get away from work during the day. One time is excusable, but twice; I'm hesitant to go back. Master tailors. Full stop. I went here for an urgent situation. I needed a tuxedo fixed before a wedding the next day as the original tailors did a terrible job. Luckily, Lee's was able to do same day turnaround and they extended my sleeves (not an easy job as they needed to add fabric to accommodate my monkey arms) and fixed my trouser hemming. Beyond the speed, I was impressed by their professionalism and expert opinion--they took the time to discuss different fixes that would really make me standout. I was in town for SXSW and the zipper on a dress broke. I took it there to be replaced, got busy, as you do during Sx, and then ran out of time to pick it up before I had to leave town. Alexander was very helpful and accommodating, taking payment over the phone and sending my dress back to me priority mail. Item: Long dress Alteration: bottom hem Cost: $54 Time: 2 1/2 weeks I took a bridesmaids dress here for a simple 1 inch hem. Over two weeks went by, and I still hadn't heard from them that the dress was ready. When I called to check on the status, they could not find the dress, and said they would call if they found it. Obviously, with a wedding only days away, that was a bit nerve wracking to hear. Luckily, they called about 30 min later and had found the dress, but that it wasn't done, and then asked if I needed it. I explained again that it was for a wedding this week, and I indeed needed it very badly (hence taking it to the tailors well in advance). They had it ready for me the next day, but charged me $54. I don't mind paying for alterations, but considering I didn't have anything else done to the dress besides a slight shortening of the length, and it taking so long, $54 seems a little steep. read more

I felt particularly compelled to write this after picking up my snowboard pants today. That's right. These ain't no wool slacks (though Lee's has done great with suits and pants I've had altered there before). I brought them a pair of hard core snowboard pants with multiple insulated layers and all manner of snaps, zippers, and clips. I've had the pants a couple of years, but they've always been way too long. So I brought them to Lee's to see if there was anything to be done. They scratched their heads for a few minutes as I described that I needed the legs shorter, but that it wasn't just a cut-and-hem. I needed them to retain the zipper and button on the bottom of the leg, in addition to the elastic band and snap at the bottom of the inner lining. In other words, I needed it to fit over my boots and bindings and still keep the snow out when they were finished. We all agreed it would be a tough job. It was a thick canvas material + thin plastic material, heavy duty seams, and little margin for error. They discussed the work to be done and gave me a very reasonable quote. "If it takes more time than you thought once you get in there and take it apart, I'm ok paying a little more," I told them on my way out. Well, I picked up my altered pants today, and I can tell you they worked some magic. The result is exactly what I'd hoped for. They made the legs shorter without sacrificing any of the fancy accoutrement. They fit great, they were finished on time, and the final bill came in below the estimate. High fives all around. If only these badass pants would make me a decent snowboarder. No chance of that, I'm afraid. But at least I'll be ridiculed only for the outrageous pattern on my pants, and not the fact that they're folded in half because I don't know how to shop. read more

Having only taken pants and suits to Expert Lee's for the longest while, I finally took in a dress I bought to wear to a wedding. It was too loose through the ribcage to the top of the hips, and they took it in for me. It fits like a GLOVE and was ready as expected. It was also very reasonable, about $20 with a one-week wait time (they charge more for a rush). I feel like I've really run the gamut now in terms of work done here, and I would recommend them for nearly everything (note: I've yet to see a wedding gown in there so one has to assume that's not their specialty; for that I'd recommend Lupee High Fashion Dress Maker). read more

Heard of this place word of mouth, and brought a suit here to be fitted. The owners/tailors basically do not speak English, so you cannot communicate as to a preference on tailoring, and they cannot relate as to whether or not they can perform the desired alteration. I put the jacket on and they basically grabbed my arms and chest a few times. With my pants, they didn't even mark them with chalk, and instead just put a safety pin through them. The jacket sleeves were tailored well. They missed the pants by about 3/4 of an inch. I had to take them for a second round of alteration. $48 total, and I paid $8 at another tailor to have my pants re-altered to look acceptable. read more

After searching for a place to hem pants (no joke, I went to two places in a row that wouldn't measure me - what?!?), I found this place on Yelp. They did a very good job, but I am giving them a so-so review for three reasons: 1. $15 for a hem? Come on. Cut and sew. This is Austin, not New York. 2. It took almost a week for the pants to be ready. Luckily I was flexible, but I imagine it would be a pain if you needed something sooner. 3. The location is awful if you're driving. Parking is impossible. They are super nice, but I will think twice about buying any pants that need a hem if I need to spend $15 on them. Eek! read more

I called Lee's and explained the situation and told them I'd need my pants re-altered in less than 24 hours. Despite how busy they were, I felt like they made me a priority. This is my first review just because this place did not live up to my (pretty basic) expectations at all. I had a zipper to replace on my dress -- they told me it would be done in a week. When I came back with my ticket on the agreed day, the dress was not done or even touched. She told me to come by in the afternoon -- that same afternoon, the dress was not touched either. By the next day they had finished the job, without a discount for being late. That night when I tried to zip up the dress -- the zipper would not work. So much for a tailor close to work. read more

Lee's Tailor came highly recommended to me by friends in Austin. I took a bridesmaids dress to them for alterations and they could not have been more fantastic! I was really, really, in a bind because I live overseas and arrived in Austin with just about a week until the wedding, for which I would have to drive to Houston. And I was very concerned because should the garment be returned and not fit, I would be in trouble as there would not be enough time left to fix it. Lee's had the garment ready at the time promised, and it gave vision to the saying "fits like a glove". As the dress was slightly too small to start with, so she let out every single seam to make it the proper size and fit. But it was impossible to tell!
