Walked in with a zipper problem and they fixed it right away. Also got dress hemmed and they did an amazing job. Highly recommend!!!

I've had 7-8 items altered over the last few years at Velvet Tailors and every time the quality and service has been consistently sub-par and over-priced. I really wanted to like these tailors - especially since it looks like a family operation. The owner, who does the intake fitting, has a limited understanding of where/how to mark the garments for the intended fit. She also seems to randomly assign pricing. I was charged $3 to secure a button on a blouse and a month later was quoted $10 for the same service. Velvet Tailors would greatly benefit from a customer facing person who is competent in tailoring, customer service, intake and managing the tickets. read more

Velvet tailors did a great job with several rush alterations we needed. They were friendly and very communicative. Would recommend! read more

Jessie did such a lovely job with my wedding dress! I had several fittings to make sure the length and bustle were just right before my big day and I knew I wanted to be able to wear the dress again for other occasions, so she turned it into a mini-dress for me. Absolutely love it and will be back for other tailoring needs read more

We took our daughter for her prom dress to be hemmed $240 to shorten a dress. They were supposed to call us the following week to confirm the price they never called. We dropped it off April 4th and today is April 22 and it's still not ready. I called and left a message and they never called me back. My husband called yesterday they said it would be ready today and it's not. Prom is in 2 days and they are 30-45 mins away from us. We have to drive back again tomorrow and hope it's ready and done correctly. If you are charging premium price you should have premium service. Stay away from this place, for the price there has to be a better option read more

I've been going here for the past 2 years and they always do an incredible job. The team is fast, the prices are very fair and so far I've never had anything but perfection from them. I took pants, dresses, bridesmaid dresses and even my second wedding dress, which needed to be tightened and the straps shortened and it was perfect! We've also had them do my husband suits and even a tux before, which we needed the same week and they accommodated for a small fee. I highly recommend them. Thank you for everything!! #thankyouthursday read more

I am so disappointed with Velvet Tailors. Specifically Lettie. My mother in law and I brought in the same dress for the flower girls in my sister in laws wedding. She gave us two different prices and would not honor the lower price. I live in the neighborhood and have taken a dozen or so garments in to them. She proceeded to tell me my mother in law was lying about the price. Extremely disappointed and I will not go back. read more

The best!!! Every clothing item I've taken to this wonderful woman owned company is repaired perfectly. I'm greeted in a kind way and told approximately how long it will take until my clothes are ready. I've never been disappointed in any work from these sweet talented people. Once, they repaired over 70 tiny moth holes in my hub's sweater! Amazing! Highly recommended!! read more

BEWARE of Velvet Tailors if you have a time constraint for alterations. I took a dress in, they told me it would be ready 12 days later and when I went to pick it up on the 12th morning, it was not ready. The girl told me they were working on "today's" projects and it wasn't ready yet and to come back later that day, which I did 6 hours later. The dress had not been touched and the person helping said I "could have paid for express service". I was not offered that, but how can 'express" be 12 days later? She then told me it could be ready MOnday so I said "I'll just take the dress". It took me 3 times of firmly requesting the dress back before she would hand it to me. The old owners were far more service oriented. read more

If I could give 10 stars to Velvet Tailors I would!! I was in a huge pinch and had to have a dress altered for an out of town party the following day. I took it in at noon on a Thursday and they had it all done and back to me by 10:30am the following day, just before I headed to the airport!! I couldn't believe it. I thought they might think I was insane asking for something with such a fast turnaround but they were so nice and took care of me with such ease. This is your "GO TO" place trust me. read more

Very friendly and reliable! Went in with less than 2 months before my wedding and everything was done on time and done well, so I was very happy with my experience here. Each appointment was straightforward and quick. It was also extremely affordable! I would definitely come back here for any future alterations. I highly recommend Velvet Tailors. read more

Velvet tailors is amazing! I needed a rush alteration in under two weeks on my very detailed wedding dress and they came through amazingly with a beautiful alteration and very reasonable rush fees! Thanks y'all! read more

I'm a repeat customer, many times now. Mostly hems, cuffs and waistbands and so far I'm satisfied with their work. I always have more confidence when the tailor is on-site and that's all they do. I'm having them re-size two suits from size 44 to 40 which should be a good measure of their capabilities. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with the work. Location is great, reasonable turnaround and fair prices. Update: I had them resize 4 suits from 44L to 40 and everything came out great. Even repair work is done well. Velvet is the only place I'll go in Austin for alterations read more

Wonderful ppl. Great place to take any of your clothes to be altered. Fair rates. Reasonable. Good turn around time.

I just spent the best $85 of 2023, getting three barely worn but super cute pairs of 'boot cut' joes jeans from the back of my closet (full confession: from the year 2006!) remodeled to have current, 'normal-looking' legs, and boom, perfectly broken in and perfectly wearable jeans, no shopping required! read more

I switched tailors pre-Covid to Velvet and have used them ever since. The owner is always courteous and professional. And, her work is fantastic. read more

I needed to get my wedding dress altered about 2 months before my wedding. I was told by the alterations specialist at the dress shop it was tricky because it was lace on top of lace and I wanted the hem to look the same. After searching I decided to give velvet tailors a try based on the good reviews and people mentioning good prices. They fixed the zipper on my dress, moved up the hem at least 5 inches or more, and added a bustle! Jessie is so sweet and I'm glad I trusted her with such a special dress. I even had her alter my rehearsal dinner dress and my husbands suit! I will be coming back for sure! And if you're looking for a place to alter a wedding dress or gown, bring it here and talk to Jessie! read more

I have been going here for many many years and have been so pleased. This last visit will be my last. They don't answer their phone and they kept telling me it would be ready and it never was. I brought in 2tops on May 10th and I still don't have them. Today is May 5th. read more

This place is amazing. The ladies are very pleasant to speak with. I will not go to any other tailor in Austin! They also work quickly, and are affordable!!!!! Give them a try for sure. Good job Velvet Tailors read more

I'm so glad I found Velvet Tailors! The owner, Jessie, is so friendly, patient, and honest -- and she does an incredible job with all of our alterations! I first met Jessie when I took my wedding pants in to mend a tear, and she did such a good job at a reasonable and fair price. I like that she was very upfront about pricing, timeline, and also what she was able to do. Since then, I've recommended her to all of my friends and family. My wife has since taken multiple night gowns and skirts here to get altered, and my mom recently got some pants altered. Jessie's a household name now in my family! Also, if you haven't read Diane B.'s review, it's worth reading. Jessie is a rare gem, and we're so glad we found her! We highly recommend Velvet Tailors! read more

Everyone who works here is so kind and helpful! I got multiple garments altered and couldn't believe how affordable it was. If you are getting a wedding dress altered go here rather than a place that specializes in wedding dresses. I probably spent about 20% of what I would have elsewhere and it came out beautifully. read more

Perfect alterations. Jessie is extremely professional and details oriented. After the first measure, it was perfect and she felt like there was about 2cm she could still take in on the bust. She asked for a few more days to move in the 2cm! She is so thoughful! Highly recommend. read more

I was recommended by a friend to use Velvet tailors - and she was soooo right. The staff is incredibly sweet, kind, and respectful. But most importantly their work speaks for itself. I've had a $50 dress I ordered online altered there - and with their beautiful work made it seem like it was $100+ dress with the way they altered the fit. I've returned since then to have a real leather jacket altered, a skirt hem, and most importantly a boiler jumpsuit. I cannot stress to you how shocked I was - especially with the jumpsuit. Before, it was baggy, too long in the torso, too baggy in the legs. I am 5'2 and they were able to alter it and make it feel like it was made just for me. Their prices are absolutely reasonable and almost too little in comparison to the quality of their work. 10000% recommend this place! read more

They are incredibly talented when it comes to making something fit just right! I needed a dress next day and they made it happen!

Jessie is an extremely talented small business owner. I have brought her several extremely complicated alterations that she handles without a problem, in a timely manner, and at a price that is MORE than fair. (Especially when compared to other local tailors!) She and her staff are friendly, professional, and amazing. Selfishly I don't want other people to know about her, but this amazing businesswoman deserves hordes of customers, and people deserve the good work that Velvet Alterations can do. You will not be disappointed. read more

Velvet Tailors is great! I needed to get my wedding dress altered and add a sash, and they were fast and effective. It fit perfectly the first time. When I went to pick it up, I had forgotten to tell them about one small additional alteration I wanted to make. While I waited for only 10-15 minutes, they did it and didn't even charge me. This was my first time there, and I will absolutely be returning! I also appreciated that the owner was very conscious of COVID precautions while I was getting the dress fitted, which made me feel safe to be in the shop. The owner is also very nice!! Thanks, Velvet Tailors! read more

One of the best tailor experience I've had in Austin! Came in just to get a new button on my pants, was greeted by a friendly staff member who told me she would have it done much quicker than I expected. This place is the best. Nordstrom messed up my bridesmaid dress alteration and I had less than a day before I was leaving town for the wedding. There are a lot of tailors in town, but I went to this one because of the stellar reviews, and I learned for myself that the reviews are well-earned. Jessie and her staff are patient and professional. The turnaround times are fast, the results are great, and the prices are fair. I am currently having a few wedding dresses altered here (yes, a few, haha) and Jessie and her staff are doing a great job. When I've come back for fittings, I see nothing but happy people coming in and out. Many of them seem to be regulars. Trust the reviews and go to Velvet Tailors. read more

Great place! I took a very special item here--a kimono gifted to me by my grandma--and asked for a creative job; Hemings it, but at the waist in order to preserve the beautiful details towards the bottom of the fabric.
