I've had 7-8 items altered over the last few years at Velvet Tailors and every time the quality and service has been consistently sub-par and over-priced. I really wanted to like these tailors - especially since it looks like a family operation. The owner, who does the intake fitting, has a limited understanding of where/how to mark the garments for the intended fit. She also seems to randomly assign pricing. I was charged $3 to secure a button on a blouse and a month later was quoted $10 for the same service. Velvet Tailors would greatly benefit from a customer facing person who is competent in tailoring, customer service, intake and managing the tickets. read more

We took our daughter for her prom dress to be hemmed $240 to shorten a dress. They were supposed to call us the following week to confirm the price they never called. We dropped it off April 4th and today is April 22 and it's still not ready. I called and left a message and they never called me back. My husband called yesterday they said it would be ready today and it's not. Prom is in 2 days and they are 30-45 mins away from us. We have to drive back again tomorrow and hope it's ready and done correctly. If you are charging premium price you should have premium service. Stay away from this place, for the price there has to be a better option read more

I've been going here for the past 2 years and they always do an incredible job. The team is fast, the prices are very fair and so far I've never had anything but perfection from them. I took pants, dresses, bridesmaid dresses and even my second wedding dress, which needed to be tightened and the straps shortened and it was perfect! I am so disappointed with Velvet Tailors. Specifically Lettie. My mother in law and I brought in the same dress for the flower girls in my sister in laws wedding. She gave us two different prices and would not honor the lower price. I live in the neighborhood and have taken a dozen or so garments in to them. BEWARE of Velvet Tailors if you have a time constraint for alterations. I took a dress in, they told me it would be ready 12 days later and when I went to pick it up on the 12th morning, it was not ready. The girl told me they were working on "today's" projects and it wasn't ready yet and to come back later that day, which I did 6 hours later. The dress had not been touched and the person helping said I "could have paid for express service". I was not offered that, but how can 'express" be 12 days later? She then told me it could be ready MOnday so I said "I'll just take the dress". It took me 3 times of firmly requesting the dress back before she would hand it to me. I'm a repeat customer, many times now. Mostly hems, cuffs and waistbands and so far I'm satisfied with their work. I always have more confidence when the tailor is on-site and that's all they do. I'm having them re-size two suits from size 44 to 40 which should be a good measure of their capabilities. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with the work. I was told by the alterations specialist at the dress shop it was tricky because it was lace on top of lace and I wanted the hem to look the same. After searching I decided to give velvet tailors a try based on the good reviews and people mentioning good prices. They fixed the zipper on my dress, moved up the hem at least 5 inches or more, and added a bustle! Jessie is so sweet and I'm glad I trusted her with such a special dress. I was recommended by a friend to use Velvet tailors - and she was soooo right. The staff is incredibly sweet, kind, and respectful. But most importantly their work speaks for itself. I've had a $50 dress I ordered online altered there - and with their beautiful work made it seem like it was $100+ dress with the way they altered the fit. I've returned since then to have a real leather jacket altered, a skirt hem, and most importantly a boiler jumpsuit. I cannot stress to you how shocked I was - especially with the jumpsuit. Before, it was baggy, too long in the torso, too baggy in the legs. I am 5'2 and they were able to alter it and make it feel like it was made just for me.
