I needed a dress hemmed and altered for a wedding I was in last weekend. She was able to get me in the same day I called - I just drove over right then! The alterations took less than two days. I went in originally just for a hem, but then ended up getting the shoulders taken up too because the dress was sagging in the chest area. I found Jam on yelp, like most other new places I've tried. After losing weight before my wedding, and my dress taking SOOO long to arrive it needed alterations and I was short on time. 50 percent of the people I reached out to could not do it in time. Finally I found Jam. She was responsive and friendly and promised me we could get it done in time. Jam is a very nice person, and she did finish in time. Here are my issues and reason for the 2 star rating. # 1 - I specifically asked her BEFORE any work was done, after she looked at the dress on me how much it was going to cost. She said she'd let me know as it got closer to me picking it up. She did not. She told me she doesn't charge as much as others do. She still didn't know how much she was charging the day before when I was there trying it on. She still did not have an invoice. #2 - It still needs more work. She did not do the top of the dress, just the waist and hips and arms. It should have been done correctly in full when I came to try it on. #3 - I had told her the length was fine, but she talked me into cutting some off. ( cutting the dress was 300.00 it has 1 hem and tulle. ) I had to take it back because they completely missed the hem the first time. #4 - a couple buttons look to be falling off. It's only been tried on 3 times now. The inside on the top the hem is coming apart. She did not do the top, so I don't understand how this could've happened. She did redo all the buttons for free when I brought it back for the hem they missed the first time. My bill was 600 dollars. It caught me off guard and seems very high. The work isn't bad, and it was done on time. And I do not dislike her at all. I'm just giving my honest opinion. If you get work done there make sure you get everything in writing. The cost. The work to be done. Everything. So now I'm just going to wear a dress that's too big on top because I can't afford to pay one more penny to have someone fix it. Talk about a disappointment. It's my wedding, you know, the happiest day ever. read more

I found some great skirts at Le Garage Sale, an awesome jacket, an old brown skirt I've had for 15 years and a dress from Amazon. I love these items; however, I'm petite and they just didn't look right so I never wore them. My brown skirt is one of those finds that fit you absolutely perfectly however the elastic band was wearing out and I wanted to shorten it a bit. I've never had clothes professionally fit for me before, so I did a search on Yelp. I corresponded via Yelp with several businesses and decided to go with Maria. She is extremely responsive, flexible and willing to work around your schedule. Wow! I am totally blown away. She managed to shorten my jacket by about 6 inches and was able to keep the zipper and details on the sleeve. My pleather skirt had a lining. Even that was done beautifully. The lace skirt is perfect now. I cannot wait to wear it. She kept the original "swoop" on the bottom. This red dress was too long. At my fitting, she showed me it would also look much better if she shortened the length on the top at the shoulders. Maria also stitched it closed in the front so I wouldn't have any accidents. This dress looks amazing on, it is a fitted dress and the material is very forgiving and flexible. I'm going to buy three more just like it and have Maria fix them up for me. I'm hooked! She told me that I'll never think about clothes the same again. She also gave me tips for shopping and the things that she can change on clothing. I can't wait to hit thrift stores. read more

She is fastidious and has an excellent eye for improving the fit of clothing and working out small details to modernize or flatter my figure. She even was okay with "rushing" my dress for a birthday that weekend and charged me a small fee of $8. One thing to keep in mind is she is not at her shop very often. The hours can tend to be inconvenient if you're not in the neighborhood or have to work full time. SHE RUINED MY DRESS. I would have done myself a huge favor by going to a different place. Maria seems like a personable person however I am extremely disappointed because she ruined my Wedding Dress. I asked her to lower the neck line, add a bustle, and make the dress shorter. She also mentioned the sides had a slight bulge so I agreed to fix that too. I went 5 times over a period of months and everytime there was something wrong. She shortened the fabric a lot and it was shorter then the second fabric behind it. She said she fixed it 3 separate times, and i went during my break. She then said she would have to stretch the fabric to have it be the right length because she had cut too much and left no extra fabric. The dress now pulls and now you can see my belly button and the fabric pulls on the side making a weird fold in the fabric. She also cut the neckline uneven. When I texted her after I took it home she said "hmm i should have chalked it, goodness." After 15 minutes of silence in the text thread I asked her what was the plan and she wants me to go back a 6th time. I told her I don't feel comfortable going back (especially after everything she did to my dress). I told her I would rather take it to another tailor and have her venmo me the cost to fix her numerous mistake and she said no. She also told me it was normal for someone to go more than once for a fitting. I disagree and don't think its normal to go back for 6 fitting when it continues to be altered incorrectly. She also said she offered me a discount, which is not true. When i dropped of the dress she told me the cost would be between $300 and $390 and she ended up with $335 cash or $362 if you pay with credit card. She told me she is fairly priced. I am not looking for a fairly priced alteration if that will result in my dress being ruined. She was condescending at the end and "wished me the best." Would not recommend. If you have a wedding dress find someone else who is attention to detail. Do not go here. Will be further reporting this business so this doesn't happen to any other bride. read more

For one of them, she opened up the arm holes (which had been too small), and the other had to be taken in multiple places.
