Brandy is an absolute gem! I took my wedding dress in to be hemmed/altered and she did amazing! She's so easy to work with, listens to what you want, and provides lots of helpful wedding tips and tricks. The studio is also super cute and has a great changing room and large mirror out in the open common area for you to easily see your final product. 10/10 recommend Brandy Design Studio for all of your alteration needs!

I needed to find someone local to Austin who could help me get my wedding dress and my fiancé suit pressed. I came across Brandy on Facebook. Brandy was wonderful to work with. Very responsive and polite. The day my Matron of honor picked up all the items (my wedding dress, 3 suits, and 2 dresses) it was raining and Brandy brought each one out and delicately placed them in the car. Brandy was a pleasure to work with and I hope I have the opportunity to collaborate again.

I could not be happier with my experience using Brandy to alter my wedding dress! She is such a fun person to interact with, and she made the entire process easy and stress free. Not to mention the dress looked amazing and fit perfectly. It didn't need much, but Brandy expertly hemmed it, added a bustle, tightened and shortened the sleeves, lowered the neckline, and added bra cups, all for a very reasonable price (compared to some other quotes I received). I would recommend her to anyone!

Amazing Alterations! Brandy was able to alter the dress I purchased that was two sizes too big, plus add a stunning belt, for half the price of the other alteration quotes I received. She is incredibly sweet and meticulous. She wasn't satisfied until I was super happy with my purchase. The final result was better than I could have imagined.

Brandy was an absolute dream to work with! I had a very detailed dress that needed the bust/straps/middle all taken in. Her studio is super cute and clean and it was always a pleasure going there! We had one initial consult, then a follow up appointment where she sewed the straps in and reattached the lace (all while I was in the dress!) This made for the perfect fit :) After I took my bridal portraits I had one nitpicky request and she squeezed me in to make the change no problem!

I am so lucky I found Brandy for my wedding dress alterations!!! I bought a Hayley Paige dress, and brandy did an AMAZING job on my dress. It was definitely a difficult dress to alter with multiple layers and horsehair trim, and she did perfect!!! The fittings were always fun, never stressful, and she always listened to what I wanted! Thank you Brandy for doing such a great job on my dress dress!! XOXO

Pros: - Fast responses - Flexed pick-up/drop-off times - Listened well - Accepts Venmo Side Notes: - Expedited fee for rush jobs - Plan ahead if you can - Missing buttons on a tux jacket - Needed reinforcement (buttons) - She no longer offers dry cleaning Summary Heading out of town on a last-minute trip, I noticed that I was missing buttons on one of the tux jackets I was planning on wearing. I only had a few days to go, so I called Bali, and she said she could do it but didn't have buttons that she knew of to do the job. I instructed her that I would buy some via Amazon and then bring it over to her. In parallel, she was looking for some buttons and found some a day later! My buttons came in a bit delayed the next day, but she still found the time to do it, called me in the morning, and told me she'd come out to deliver it directly to my car. I have yet to do extensive alternations, but she knows what she is doing from the other reviews. If you need someone up North Austin, she's one to call. I'll go to her again when I need something, but hopefully, I'm not in a rush next time!

I always get holes in the knees of my jeans, which didn't matter until I started buying more expensive jeans. I'd get maybe one pair a year which would typically last longer. But they'd still eventually wear out and get holes in the knees. My wife eventually asked me to throw them out, but I discovered this place which went to heroic lengths to patch up anything. The results looked kind of messy but also cool. That was all well and good. But for the past two years I've taken exceedingly good care of the last pair of jeans I bought. For instance, I always make sure to pull them up to add some slack to the knees when I sit down so I won't stress the fabric there. In spite of my efforts the other day I noticed a very tiny hole had started to form (not even big enough to stick my finger through). I decided to be proactive about it and take them to Velma's before the problem got worse. They say a stitch in time saves nine, right? I'm crestfallen because for some reason Vilma's Tailor Shop sewed giant patches in BOTH knees of these otherwise perfect looking jeans (tangent: to be fair there was a knick- but not quite a hole - around the other knee; however I didn't ask them to fix that problem at all!). There's now this noticeable line of stitches in a boring 10x6 inch box pattern on the outside that make the jeans look weird, like I had them bedazzled. That's always a risk of patching up jeans, but I didn't ask for a patch in them at all- I just wanted a simple stitch! I also got a previous pair fixed and some of the patches were smaller- like 6 x 3.5 inches. So if they could've used a smaller patch, why didn't they? These were easily my favorite pair of jeans and now they look so stupid. I don't have the money to buy a new pair right now but that's all I've been able to think about since returning home. I don't understand why a tiny problem had to be addressed with a huge alteration. It's not intuitive. However they don't have great English skills here and I'm wondering if maybe when I was warned and accepted this somehow so its on me. I tried very hard to talk with her to just let her know I was disappointed, but it was impossible to communicate the subtleties even with the help of Google translate. I'm only knocking one star off my review because I feel like good people are working here and they try their best, and this was mostly a communication problem. I can't help but feel responsible because I dropped them off and had issues communicating in the first place. In hindsight I never should have handed them my best pair of jeans but did because I'd had good experiences in the past and didn't think they'd do something so bizarre . If you've read my warnings and follow them it will be a five star experience.

I had a lot of difficulty trying to get in touch with her to find a good solution for my tuxedo. She ignored calls and texts for days at a time. This was after I had already paid for the work - The price of the work was on the high end, and I feel for the quality of work and experience there are tailors that charge much less - The owner gave me her word that she would reimburse me for having another tailor adjust the shoulder seam without shortening the sleeve length, which could not be done with her tailor. After bringing in the coat with amended shoulders and an invoice, she went back on her word and refused to reimburse me. She claimed the other tailor (a reputable one) didn't make the adjustment at all. Even after I was able to confirm with her tailor it was adjusted, just in a different way than he expected Pictured is the bulge that remained in my shirt after 5 trips to the shop to get it right. I would recommend spending your money and time on another tailor for a better experience.

I came to this local cleaner desperate for help getting a bleed reversed on the bottoms of a two piece heirloom Chinese brocade outfit. I explained the situation and said I would pay upwards of $200 to get it looking better, and explained I just did NOT want it to get worse. I didn't hear anything for a while and although there was a race against time to get my daughter photographed in it, I didn't want to put extra pressure on them. Despite multiple efforts from me, and the workers in the shop to get some kind of update, the owner was incredibly non-responsive. They had the garments and reference imagery for two months without update, and I went to pick it up and they had completely ruined the top. The top wasn't in perfect condition as it had a small localized bleed, but it looks like they did some treatment that definitely made the top worse. The owner said she didn't know what it looked like before and I had a framed reference sitting in her shop for two months. Really just sucks that my one request was for it to not get worse, and it was ok if they couldn't do anything about it. But they failed to communicate or understand their own professional limitations. The entire situation was already heartbreaking and this unprofessional business touching this garment was just the cherry on top.

Before I explain, let me just say that the women who work here were very welcoming and nice my first time coming in. Their cleaning was also fine, no complaints there. The issue is the sewing. I had a breast reduction earlier this year and brought in two brand new Left on Friday swim tops because they were too big after my surgery. I thought I would save myself the $200 buying new tops and have them taken in a little. There was obviously some sort of communication breakdown between me and the woman who I spoke to, that did my measurements, but even so, the final result is the worst sewing I have ever seen in my life. I could have done a 10x better job myself, but I wanted my things taken to a professional. Their work was not professional at all. It was a total botch job. Both tops were cut down the middle in the back (WHYYY? Not even on an already existing seam, just cut that b*tch right through the middle ‍) and then the two sides were sewn (really terrible, rough, ugly stitches) back together with the ends folding awkwardly inward onto my back, in an itchy and uncomfortable way. In addition to that, she didn't take both sides in equally so now the straps on both tops are asymmetrical! I mean you can see it in the photos. It's inexcusably dreadful. Neither swim top is wearable and I ended up having to buy new ones anyway. When I confronted the woman about it, I asked if she had actually SEEN the work, because I didn't want to assume that she had done it herself, and I told her they look really bad. She seemed a bit uncomfortable and said that yes, she had done the work herself, and when I pulled out the tops and showed her all of the above mentioned things, she got a little bit belligerent with me. Immediately defensive, started raising her voice, denied any wrongdoing, blamed me for all of it because I didn't communicate well enough, etc. I'm not sure how clear you have to be with someone about having a top taken in, but it didn't seem productive to have a yelly argument with the woman in her store, so I just said, "Ok, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough", and I chalked it up to a communication breakdown. She then offered to give me a 20% DISCOUNT on the work. I was absolutely baffled by this because not only was I still having to pay her for ruining my swim tops, but I would also need to spend another $200 to buy new ones. Bottom line: do not bring alterations here. They will ruin your clothes. You'll get better results letting a toddler play with your sewing machine.

Says so right on the giant window cling at the front of the store, which faces a Dollar General and Big Lots in the faded strip center that time forgot - same dingy block where Asia Market and Ann's Kitchen Cakes are located. I had snagged an awesome pair of fancy Penguin brand jeans at Ross, original MSRP $128, Ross bargain price $19.99. Yay for bargains! The fit was fantastic, but as with most designer jeans on my 62 inch frame, the length was about 10 inches too long. If only clothing makers would realize that most human females are not built like the specimens on America's Next Top Model.... It took Alterations to Go only 2 days to complete my job, and that was on a holiday week. I asked that the original "designer" hem be replicated and was promised that it would be, but when I went to pickup the pants, a wrong colored thread had been used. I pointed this out to the tailor/manager (who was not the same person I spoke to when dropping off); he apologized and offered to replace the thread with one that was close to the original, as they did not have that exact color in jean-strength thread. The jeans were ready within 24 hours and the hem looked great. Even though I had to wait an additional day, I will use ATG again & recommend them to petite friends for hem work. The customer service response to my problem was excellent and the $8 price can't be beat. Just know that you have to be sure to check the work when you pickup, and don't be afraid to ask for a do over if you don't like the work the first time around.
