After sharing information about a domestic violence incident that led to the cancellation of my sister's wedding, Geri and the other owner showed no understanding or compassion. Continued asking for her to pay the remaining balance (about $800) after she was done paying about $3,000 and didn't return a single dollar. They also act so kind and helpful when they're trying to get you to sign the contract, but the second you want to work out a solution, they're rude, short, and completely insensitive. I've had both family members and friends go to Geri and his staff at Alexia Gavela for their wedding dress needs. He was the first person I thought of when my daughter needed a dress for her quinceanera. I called Geri and asked about quinceañera dresses. He told me that although he doesn't usually keep those dresses in stock, he had several vendors that he could order from. We picked a dress and it was absolutely perfect! Not only was he able to get it in time with our short timeline, she was still able to get the "royal treatment" with trying the dress on in the store and making sure it was a perfect fit. So my sister in law made the appointment for me because her sister had a great experience and they picked out a few dresses for her busty figure that all looked great. So i was super excited because I am extremely busty and very curvy about a size 16 because of my boobs and height. When I arrived, I was given to not the person I had an appointment but another woman. She asked me if I brought pictures and I said no because I know the lingo and what I wanted. I wanted a-line with sleeves and absolutely no strapless and a strict budget of 1500 no more over. Sparkles were a plus too. She tries to pick out a dress and is like we can add sparkles to this once you order it and I asked how much it is because if I had someone individually sew on sparkles that it expensive! She didn't even tell me the dress price after that and kept on moving. What really got me though, was when we were trying on dresses the first thing she puts me in is a fit and flare THAT IS STRAPLESS. "Oh but we can add sleeves." Not only that, most of the dresses that were put on me were about three sizes too small so I could not get a good idea about what it looked like on me. I had been to a couple of different boutiques, and this was the worse experience by far. It was an absolutely demeaning experience that left me so frustrated and hopeless and I literally felt like I looked like a sausage and I have an hour glass figure. I don't usually do these kinds of reviews, I usually just chalk it up to a bad day on their part, I've worked retail before, but obviously the woman had no idea what would look good on a curvy woman and specifically ignored my preferences. After searching high and low at different bridal boutiques in Austin after getting engaged during the holidays of 2014 Alexia Gavela had the perfect dress for me - a quality lace gown with straps and unique qualities. The Alexia team has an eye for design, the original version of the dress I purchased was a geisha neckline but they had a special one for their show room with a deep v neckline. Alexia Gavela was running a special with an Austin photographer (Yanire Yanez) for complimentary bridal portraits when you bought your dress that day in all cash. I probably would have skipped bridal portraits to save money but the bridal portraits ended up being a true blessing as the weather ended up being extremely cold on my wedding day so the portraits provided a comfort level knowing I had plenty of pictures outdoors in my dress (and with my bridal hair and make up test). I ended up doing my alterations through a different company but Alexia Gavela was extremely professional and supportive thorugh the process! Thank you!! read more

I really hate to leave this review but... My wedding dress is VERY tight...so much that it pinches the skin on my back when zipped, in a rather unflattering way. When I was measured at Alexia Gavela back in December, I weighed _____ (I actually wrote it down at the time). Currently, I weigh _____ (same EXACT figure, down to the pound). And while there's no way to prove that to someone who owns a bridal boutique...the dress is also a couple of inches SHORT when I wear high heels. I'll now be wearing shorter heels than I'd originally planned, to accommodate the length. Call me crazy, but doubt that I've grown taller in the past six months, at the age of 27. I chose not to contact the shop directly about this, because 1) I wanted to avoid the "you must have gained weight" speech, 2) shedding a few pounds and new shoes are doable (yet annoying), and 3) as the dress was shipped to California with only a month left before the wedding, there wasn't going to be much that they could do for me from afar. ...which actually brings me to my next complaint. My mom paid $160 to expedite the shipping of the dress and ensure that it was sent out on April 30 (as opposed to the beginning of June). I ended up receiving my (expedited) dress at the end of June, and was told that they have no control over customs when the gown is coming from overseas. While I do understand that fact, I think the amount of time it actually took was far too much for that to be valid...and furthermore, with "no control," isn't it unfair to be charging rush fees and guaranteeing arrivals? And throughout this waiting period, each time I checked in I was told that the gown was, "on its way" or "would be here this weekend" which was not the case for quite awhile. Geri was nice enough to refund the fee (at my request), but receiving the dress so close to my wedding definitely added a lot of unnecessary stress. Again, I hate to leave such a low rating, because I love my dress and was happy with Alexia Gavela initially! The shop has such a great selection at a wide range of prices and includes lots of very affordable dresses. And Geri did seem to be trying to work with me and keep me happy. However, I can't come out of this feeling completely positive, as I'm still concerned about either my dress suffocating me or me busting out of it on wedding night! read more

Alexa Gavela is truly an awesome stop to make on your quest for the perfect Wedding Dress in ATX. The selection is huge, and will cater to every taste. Classic, modern, frilly, tea length - they really do have it all. To top it off - the staff is fantastic here! The team really has a great eye for what kind of dress will fit your form, and what you look good in - and not only that, but they can help you accessorize down to the shoes and earrings! My BFF and I went in several months ago to start the process of getting her a wedding dress, and have been there many many times since. The staff was always very knowledgeable and helpful, and always good at communicating. My BFF was also planning on a reduced timeline, so when we ordered both the wedding dress and all of the bridesmaids dresses, they really stepped up to communicate with the vendors and make sure we got everything in on time at the best price. One thing to note is - they do order up in sizes for just about everyone. One of our bridesmaids was seven months pregnant, and they ordered maybe two sizes higher than needed - and then she spent a quite a bit in alterations getting the dress to fit. I had the opposite experience and got away with a perfect size and the cheapest alteration I've ever payed for - so I think its on a case by case basis and something to watch for. Really, though, the positives outweighed any negatives in the end, and they really showed us that the wedding was a priority to them. read more

I'm not a fan of this place. I had to get a bridesmaid dress here, and they were rather good about taking measurements and getting all of my contact information, but that's about where the good stuff stopped. The dress came in and it was huge on me. I hadn't lost or gained any weight, so I know I had the same measurements as before. Instead of having them redo the dress, I took it to my own tailor. They also seem to have very "off" hours. I called many times to get information, and I always got voice mail. I left numerous messages, but never got a phone call back. Other bridesmaids said they would go during business hours and the doors would be locked. They do seem to be closed at random times. read more

BRIDESMAID ALTERATIONS - TWO THUMBS UP! I first went to Alexia Gavela simply to have my measurements taken. I needed to order a Bari Jay bridesmaid's dress from a store out-of-state. Geri advised me to order a size up, and waived the small fee saying, "Just remember us when it's time for alterations!" Three weeks before the wedding, I brought my dress in for alterations. It was much too big and needed to be taken in at the sides. The illusion (mesh) neckline also needed to be brought in/up. Geri offered me a choice between "the cheap way" and "the expensive way" to do it, which I really appreciated. I opted for the cheap way and it cost $75. They brought me in for one fitting to make sure I was happy with it before they closed the seams. The dress looks beautiful. It fits great with no weird hems or puckering. They returned it to me clean, pressed and ready to go. The entire process took 11 days. The shop itself is charming, and there are many lacey, romantic and whimsical bridal gowns. They also make their accessories in house. Geri gave me an awesome tip to try making my own organza flowers, and advice on how to sew a sash. I was a little sad I didn't come here while I was shopping for my own wedding dress. But, Geri assured me that if I am unhappy with the quote I receive for alterations from my wedding dress retailer, I should bring it to them. Because my alterations will be fairly simple, he said he could do it for around $120. I will definitely be back!! UPDATE - I did in fact bring my Alfred Angelo wedding dress here for alterations. It ended up being a tricky and expensive alteration, because my dress was a drapey satin bias cut gown that really had to sit just right. It looked amazing. They took such care, and every visit was pleasant and free of stress. I believe I spent around $350, but it was very worth it to know that they were going to do the job right. I also want to mention that I'm a plus-size lady, as was the seamstress, and she made me feel incredibly confident and beautiful in a shapely, hip-hugging gown. My dress was nearly butchered to death by the first person I took it to for alterations, and this shop managed to completely fix it at (literally) a fraction of the price of other places. Their work was FLAWLESS and so, so affordable. I kick myself all the time for not just going to them first. I didn't visit their shop when I was looking for a dress (I worked in a different bridal shop and pretty much just got one of theirs without going anywhere else), but while waiting for my alts appointment I was very impressed by their stock. I would not have found the perfect wedding dress if it wasn't for Alejandra at Alexia Gavela Bridal. I had done a first round of wedding dress shopping with five or so of the bridal stores around town, picking out a handful of possible dresses at each store. Alejandra was extremely helpful, bringing me suggestions in my price range and helping me put on the dresses, which can be quite a feat. On my second round of wedding dress shopping (with my bridesmaids in tow), the second stop we made was at Alexia Gavela. Alejandra had all the dresses I had picked out ready for me to try on again. However, she encouraged me to try on a new dress that they had received that week. She said she thought it would be just perfect for me. On the hanger, it did not strike me as something I'd pick, but I figured, "Why not, I am already here and trying stuff on." I tried on all the dresses I had initially picked with minimal enthusiasm from the bridesmaids. Then, I tried on the dress Alejandra had picked...and voila! The entire bridesmaid crew went nuts, oohing and ahhing and saying, "that's the one!" And they were right. It was my wedding dress!!! As we went to all the other stores on my list, every time I tried on a dress the crew would just shake their heads. The dress had been found and that was that and nothing else would compare. I have to say that my entire experience with Alexia Gavela was very positive. The entire staff there was always friendly and helpful. I would like to emphasize (based on some other reviews) that I did not require any alterations on my gown whatsoever. It fit perfectly. I did have it bustled and the straps changed so that they would tie in back, and the seamstress did a great job for a reasonable price. My groom also had his jacket altered here and the same seamstress did a spot-on job of fitting it for him. They also steamed my dress for free before my bridal portrait photo shoot and also before my wedding. Not to mention they removed some stains on the dress that occurred during my bridal photo shoot (warning! do not stand under a huge oak tree while a flock of birds is hanging out above you) as soon as I brought the dress back to their store. Great experience from start (picking out my dress) to finish (wearing it on my wedding day) and everything in between. read more

I should have done this a long time ago as I got married over two years ago, but I'm lazy and just now getting around to this. I really, really adored working with Geri and the Alexia Gavela staff. Much like other brides, his shop was the last stop of the day and I had tried on countless dresses that didn't work, didn't fit, and the experience was horribly intimidating and daunting. Bonus, as a bigger girl, my self esteem was hitting a pretty big low. However, the minute my mom and I walked in for my appointment we were made to feel so welcome and at ease and he never once said anything about my weight (take that other snooty Austin bridal shops who shall remain nameless). I picked some dresses I liked and tried them on. Of course, they didn't work, but Geri, whom I believe to be made of rainbows, fabulous clothes, and unicorn magic, pulled his famous, "I have something that I think you should try," line and OF COURSE he was right. It was THE DRESS. My mom started tearing up and I just stared at myself in the mirror because I was so baffled as to how I didn't see it before but, yes, the dress worked perfectly and was beautiful and was what I wanted without even knowing it. To top it off, the dress was only $600, a steal compared to what I had been seeing at all the other shops. The rest of the process was just as easy. I ordered my dress and when it came in, it fit like a glove (really and truly - girl scouts honor!). The only alteration needed was to put in the bustling and I wanted a lace up back. It was very reasonably priced and I even brought in my reception lengha dress (it's an Indian thing) to be altered and they had no objections and fixed it beautifully. It should also be noted that several other girlfriends of mine have gone to Geri and have had just as much luck as I did. And really, I'm not sure it's luck when Geri is handling the situation - he just has a gift for finding the perfect dress for the perfect day. read more

These guys are the masters of dressing you for your wedding. The shop is extremely clean, has great lighting, knowledgable staff and a beautiful selection of designer dresses. I went to them because they had a line of dresses for destination weddings that I loved (Geri, one of the owners, told me about the dresses via email when I first contacted them). They spent a lot of time, and offered a lot of advice, which I desperately needed because I'm not sure about my fashion sense and I of course wanted the perfect dress for my wedding. The best part is, I had to rush my dress to only take 8 weeks, and, at some point, when I thought it was going to arrive late, they contacted the designer who actually paid for the dress to arrive ASAP. You would think with all this concern and detail going into my wedding-dress shopping, I would remember to actually go pick the dress up before leaving for my destination wedding. No.. I actually forgot the whole day I was supposed to go. So we had to contact Geri on his day off when the store was closed (because we were leaving for Mexico the next day), and he met my soon-to-be husband down at his store to give us the dress. He couldn't have been kinder or more gracious about it. We are so grateful for everything they did for us and for working with us like we were on a team! To this day, six months later, I still think my wedding dress is the best one I've ever seen. But I guess that is what you're supposed to think about your own dress. :) read more

Words can't describe how happy I am with my experience with getting my alterations at this store and Geri. I bought my dress at a sample sale so it was 10 sizes too big. That being said the cost was reasonable and they went above and beyond to make sure it was perfect. The end result after quite a few fittings (with no extra charge for visits) and them having to spend 9 hours just on my bustle (turns out the designer didn't create this dress with a bustle option?? ) the dress was stunning. I made an appointment two weeks prior to visiting Alexis Gavela and was a little shocked when I walked in. There were so many people inside that I wasn't even able to open the door without hitting someone. The house that serves as their store front is extremely small. Making an appointment to view bridesmaid dresses didn't matter because I was quickly told that there were no fitting rooms available. There wasn't much room to walk around which I guess was ok since they only has a very small rack of bridesmaid dresses. My bridesmaids and I decided to leave because it was too crowded and obvious that we weren't getting into a room anytime soon. read more

Of all the vendors I selected for my wedding, Alexia Gavela was the decision I was happiest with. Geri has flawless taste, exceptional professionalism, and is a spectacular value. I didn't find my wedding dress there, but I was encouraged to take it to Alexia Gavela to have it tailored. They did a perfect alteration for me, and were so fabulous that I've since taken 3 different bridesmaid dresses there for alterations as well. They were timely in their delivery, reasonable in their pricing, and when I recently found myself in a time crunch when a bridesmaid dress I needed for another wedding didn't arrive until just days before the big day, they were able to make the alterations in about half the time. I'm a little surprised by the other not-so-fab reviews of this boutique, but customer service is tricky, and I guess sometimes things can go wrong. They were great about letting me try on multiple styles and fabrics to get a better idea of what might work for me. Armed with a better understanding of what I wanted, I scoured designer collections online until I narrowed it down the dress I fell in love with. It was a Mori Lee dress and Alexia Gavela was able to special order the gown with my specific style number. They were so wonderful throughout the entire process and were able to knowledgeably answer any questions I had. After searching for months, we found Alexia Gavela and found my dress on the first try! From the moment we walked in to the moment i picked up my dress we had a great experience. The dresses were gorgeous, and had a huge variety. On my first visit, i was given a mimosa, treated like making me happy was their only goal, and when the broche I'd ordered had not come in, they offered to come deliver it to me on my wedding day!! Luckily we didn't need to do that, but they offered. Every time Geri said to me 'we'll get it done for you' he came thorugh! the only recommendations are to take time deciding what size to order. One of my bridesmaids ordered a dress, and the size was too large. She ended up paying way too much for her alterations in order to make it fit. Secondly, order in a good amount of time. Ordering late can cost you a rush fee and unnecesary stress. Overall experience was great. Geri, Alex and their entire staff was awesome. read more

We have used this shop for two weddings, three months apart and my daughters and I can not say enough good and wonderful things about them.They walked us through the first one, handled all the details, gave us options and design change ideas that the other store we went to didn't. That's what makes this a shop and not just a bridal store. They truly care and have a can do attitude that helped so much with working with two brides and two bridesmaids. They stored my dress until the wedding day, for free and were totally accommodating when I needed to pick up/drop-off the dress for the portrait. ok...so i got married over two years ago myself and have struggled with writing this review or not...and I just can't stand it any longer. I agree that Geri is a super nice guy and the staff are really great -- but they ruined my dress and stressed me out about the dress...the PERFECT dress....because of their inability to alter it right. I got my dress a solid 6 months before my wedding and they were altering it up until the week of because the refused to listen to me. By the end the dress didn't fit right anymore, was uncomfortable and you could see where there was some bad workmanship. Which sucks....and caused some prewedding anxiety attacks i should not have had. you can see it in the pictures too. Which double sucks. I was so disappointed because we spent so much time and money there and to look back and wish I had been more stern and demanded more support -- or a refund. i shouldn't feel that way. I regret having bought my dress from them. I had even considered at one point telling them to keep it and give me back my money but I didn't have it in my heart because yeah -- they are nice -- and it sucks that my experience was so horrid. But be warned. Also, some of the bustle connections came undone during the reception...hello train of doom...it was a disaster upon disaster. I feel like my family wasted a lot of money here because we ordered everything from them including some jewelery for me and my sister. I would advise people to not come. I got married in Aug. 2009. One day My Mom and I were out shopping and decided to go into Alexia Gavela, at the recommendation of our wedding planner Becky Brock at BZ Events. I am SO glad we listened to Becky and went to see Jeri at Alexia Gavela. When we walked in, with no appointment mind you, we were greeted by Jeri, one of the owners. He has wonderful enthusiasm and professionalism, and he asked what I was looking for, all I could tell him was that I wanted something modern but elegant. The main theme of our wedding was Audrey Hepburn and her classic modern sense of style and I wanted to exude classic elegance but still wanted a modern feel. He said he had the perfect dress for me. He pulled several dresses and I tried them all on, but ending up buying the first dress I tried one, the dress was beautiful. It's a strapless mermaid style dress with no beading or lace. Jeri suggested dressing it up with a sash and a beautiful broach. I ending up getting an ivory sash for my ceremony and a ice blue sash for the reception. I also purchased my broach, my bird cage veil, and my head piece from Alexa Gavela. Anytime I had a question the salon was more than willing to help me. Once I was married, I had the dress preserved which is something they offer at this salon. The employees are all very accommodating and you can tell they really love what they do. This bridal shop was so accommodating and had exactly what I was looking for. I live in LA and was in Austin for SXSW for work. On our last day we decided to go try on dresses. Daniel was working, and was so much fun and so open to customizing the dresses that I decided to go home to LA and figure out more what i was looking for, then come back when I was ready to buy. I tried on a gorgeous dress in LA that was 12k (way over my budget) and sent him photos and he had a dress nearly identical for 3k. Even after I purchased my gown he and Geri were amazing and reached out to the designer when I changed my mind about the color of the lining of my dress. I can't sing their praises anymore. I went to 7 great bridal stores in Los Angeles and probably tried almost 100 dresses, and flew all the way back to Austin because they really are as good as it gets. read more

This is a small shop with packed full of surprises. It's one of those local Austin joints, home redone into a shop. I enjoyed my time here. Geri was super nice and very helpful in dressing up a not so spectacular dress to something very different. Most the dresses are pretty typical and you'll find they are pretty affordable. My favorites in the store are the lace gowns. I highly recommend at least trying this place out to find the right gown. I went to many, many bridal stores before finding my perfect dress- and then I called many stores to find the best price on that perfect dress. Alexia Gavela had the best price out of every store in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Geri was very nice in person- kind of coarse on the phone. He was nice enough to buy back an accessory that came with my dress- I had decided to order it just in case I wanted it, and when I looked at it more closely I decided it wasn't my style. He also agreed to keep the store open half an hour later so I could pick up my dress, since I had to drive from San Antonio after work to get it. To me these types of little things are what makes good service turn into great service. If a bridal store can't stay open for a few minutes to allow you to get through Austin traffic, they certainly wouldn't help if something major went wrong! I can't speak for the dress shopping experience itself here, since I already knew exactly what I wanted, but measurements and pick-up were great! Would have been 5 stars if not for some communication issues. I had a rush order and so I was pretty concerned with getting the gown in time for alterations. I would have appreciated the store checking in with me, rather than my having to call them every time. read more

Love this bridal shop. I am getting married in Austin, but I live in Illinois. Basically, I went on a 1-day wedding dress extavaganza and Alexia Gavela was my last stop. You'd think by the end of the day, I would be going crazy at the last dress shop, but I had a blast here! Geri helped us out, and he was amazing. And also a mind reader. I tried on about 10 dresses, and he asked if he could bring me something he liked for me. And yeah, that was the one! Not to mention the flexible payments (pay half now, and the rest in 4 equal payments). And in-house fittings...what more could I ask for. read more

I was recommended to try this boutique by a friend who knew I was on a budget. I'm not sure if Alexia has changed their inventory or what, but there were only 3 dresses under $1000.00 I could try on. I liked one of them, but none of them were "the one". Furthermore, even though I made an appointment, when me and my mother and friend arrived at the store, they were obviously overbooked. There were so many people there that it was hard to walk around and keep the staff's attention. Lastly, they do not help you in and out of the dresses. Some people like having privacy, but if you like help getting in and out of the dresses, don't expect full service here. read more
