I also ended up adding cups to my dress. She was the first tailor I contacted and the last. I went in for an estimate, and then left my dress there the same day, since her prices were competitive! Y'all, just go with Linda for your alterations. I reached out to four or five tailors in the Austin area and the second I mentioned I needed my wedding dress altered, they were giving me quotes that were higher than what I spent on the dress! I found Carter Creations through Yelp and was super impressed with her reviews, five stars across the board, as all the other tailors weren't even close. I called her and she told me to come on by on a Saturday (Yes! Didn't need to take time off work!) and I could tell just by our brief phone conversation that she was a warm, genuine person who would have my best interest in mind. I went to her house and she told me about the construction of my dress (ordered online) and what all she needed to do in order to tailor it to my body. Then she gave me a quote that, I kid you not, was less than HALF of what other tailors were quoting me. I signed an agreement on the spot and left my dress with her. I had a very flexible timeline since my wedding wasn't for a few months, so for the next three weekends I'd go by, try the dress on to see her progress, and by week four she was completely done. I first reached out to all the 5-star bridal alterations businesses on Yelp to get quotes for my alterations. Linda's was by far the most affordable, $125 compared to an average of around $400 other places. She did a fantastic job on my attire. Not only was the skirt perfect, but she also made a custom silk top and a lace topper for me. I think the total cost of those was around $290, whereas the silk top I saw online that she replicated cost more than that alone. I felt just amazing, totally myself, totally comfortable, and totally unique. Then I was trying to find an affordable suit for my wife. For folks with feminine-shaped bodies, it's hard! A men's suit with alterations would have been too expensive. Places that made custom men's suits gave us quotes starting at $1,000 and said they couldn't guarantee it would fit a woman, even though it's custom. So Linda just made her a suit. I believe the total was around $600 and of course she made it exactly how she wanted it, and it fit. Also, Linda is DELIGHTFUL. My wife, who is not into all the wedding stuff, would have died if we'd had to go to a David's Bridal-type place every time she had to go for a fitting. Instead, we became very familiar with Linda's dress room in her house, and with her many animals (though they're not allowed in the dress room). Cosmo the 23-lb cat, Ninja the cuddliest cat, Walter the dog, and the frogs. Linda is hilarious, smart, no-nonsense, and gets the job done better than anyone else. When I went to pick up my attire the final time, she told me she put a button on my lace topper that she'd had since she was a kid and that belonged to her great aunt so that I would have "something old." I'll be back, but in the meantime I will miss seeing Linda and all her animals!!! read more

I had to reactivate my Yelp account to post this review but it was totally worth it! I'm getting married in 10 days from today. Because something always goes wrong when you're wedding planning, my dress came in a whole 6 weeks late setting off a chain of events that messed up my carefully-crafted timeline. My parents had to rush me my dress rather than me driving down to my hometown to get it. I scrambled to find someone to do alterations in 3 weeks (with hopes of getting to my bridal portrait session). Thus, I went in search of the perfect person to do my alterations.... The first one was too fancy and aloof...too expensive. My quote was well over $800....that's almost what I spent on the dress! The second was nice but quite busy....also, a little unfamiliar with wedding dresses which made me nervous. Enter my 3rd time's a charm...Linda Carter. WONDER WOMAN. Linda's warmth and expertise was immediately shown. She told me what kind of lace was on my dress, giggled at the factory made errors on my dress, and quoted me a price that I couldn't believe was true. Linda is a former pattern maker for Simplicity from NYC and has worked with hundreds and hundreds of brides. She knows wedding dresses and pretty much everything else garment-wise. My dress fits like a glove and she made me feel beautiful in it. Rather than buy a factory-made veil, Linda made me a customized veil appropriate to my height and matched to my dress with leftover fabric from it. Linda (Carter Creations) did the alterations on my wedding dress and she did a spectacular job. I had a mermaid cut dress that was strapless. While the only major alterations on the dress was bringing up the hem slightly and creating the bustle where Linda went above and beyond was the sleeves. I wants off the shoulder sleeves that draped to the side. When I purchased the dress I got clip on sleeves but they didn't fall correctly off the shoulder due to how low the dress cut in the back. Linda spent extra time and came up with a method to get it to work. My dress looked amazing!!! read more

I saw a dress I loved online (emily riggs bridal - her work is gorgeous) long before my wedding, and although it was my dream dress, I could never afford it at $7000. Instead, I bought a beautiful silk skirt on sale and started looking for someone to help me make the top - I just couldn't find what I wanted in stores. I found Linda and she was fantastic! She was so much fun to work with and went above and beyond in helping me with my vision. She looked at the photos I brought and fashioned two different muslins (mock-ups of the garment made out of muslin or cheaper fabric) for me to try and on to talk about the design and material. After I selected the style I preferred, she remade it again out of an inexpensive fabric which we used to perfect and make the pattern, and then again out of the final materials! She helped me source affordable (and gorgeous) french lace online, dyed it to match the skirt and sewed it all together to make my dream top. After my final pickup I tried it on again at home and there was a part of me that wished the neckline was a pinch lower. I asked Linda about it, and without hesitating she offered to lower it for me (at no extra cost). She also did a great job altering the skirt to fit me perfectly. And she went out of her way to make some minor adjustments to a jumpsuit I had purchased to wear to the reception - which I had not warned her about and had just brought with me. She fixed it in a matter of minutes while I watched. It was overall a fantastic experience and if I ever have need of alterations (or more custom made garments) in the future I will definitely go to her. I wanted a custom made wedding gown and Linda was highly recommended to me by my sister-in-law and 2 friends who all had their dresses made by Linda. I brought several ideas to her and she helped me design a dress that was flattering for my shape. She has a background as a pattern maker in NYC and is a true master. There's not much couture in Austin and Linda was a great discovery. She made my dress first in muslin and then several fittings later she made the dress out of the actual fabric. I was desperately trying to loose weight for my wedding, and wasn't as successful as I had hoped to be, but it didn't matter. Linda has magical ways of fitting the dress in a flattering way to make you look like you dreamed you would on your wedding day. I was really grateful for that! I bought an incredible piece of antique Belgian lace (sold as a bridal veil) on Ebay to make my veil from - and it turned out to be a tablecloth! No matter. I brought it to her and she worked her magic and it looked like a gorgeous million dollars. No one guessed I had a table cloth on my head when I walked down the aisle, and it's a great family joke now. Even I can laugh!
