Poor/ rude customer service. Don't recommend trying to book here. Lots of other places for better $$$

I'm about 6 months late on this review. So I apologize in advance! First, I will say that the ladies at Triana Tailors are very sweet and welcoming. I love that no matter how feverishly they appear to be working, as soon as you step through the door they look up to greet you with a sincere smile. Triana herself is very soft-spoken, but very detail oriented (of course the nature of her work). Might I add, she has a very gentle touch. Never once did I feel like I was being crammed into my dress. In April I received a final fitting on my wedding dress. The top was taken in, straps were removed and 5 points were sewn in for an American-style bustle. Although I went against their recommendation to add cups, she was still able to transform my clearance rack dress into a wonderful masterpiece. The only reason I didn't give her 5 stars is because 2 points on my bustle tore right before the reception. Maybe that was my fault (lots of hopping around a dancing), but I wished that it was a bit more reinforced. P.S. I did take a pair of shorts to be taken in over the summer. Flawless work! This is the fourth tailor I have tried in Austin. And the last. There is no reason for me to look any further. Elizabeth has a way of making you feel as if you are the only customer in her shop, even with a line of impatient brides waiting to be fitted. And the many cards from happy brides attest to the worthiness of the wait (which is never long). Her alterations have been perfect. This is the first time I have really been satisfied with a suit's fit. She is intuitive, has an eye for style and knows what she is doing. I would trust her with any of my clothes. Her staff is also friendly and talented. They have fitted me as well, and always ask Elizabeth to check the fit. And as busy as she is, she has always made time to personally check on me. I have used dry cleaning / tailors in the past for minor alterations, but after reading Elizabeth's resume on her website, I decided to take a really nice shirt to her after I lost forty pounds. She completely remade it and it fit me perfectly. So good that I realized none of my shirts ever fit correctly. I had several other shirts and jackets that were worth taking in to her. Obviously, these shirts were somewhat custom and meant something to me and I wouldn't necessarily take in an inexpensive dress shirt, but I did take her an additional large batch to be altered. I personally think it was very reasonably priced for what she did and the quality workmanship and personalized service. read more

I had a number of skirts hemmed here last Dec 2021, all at one time and most were stretched and skewed sideways. I pointed this out to the clerk at the cash register while paying, who claimed to see nothing wrong, said the hem looked just like the original. The skewing was almost as obvious as the picture below which is one of the hems sewn - after washing, which made the skewing even more apparent. It was clearly a bad job when I showed it to the clerk who couldn't see a problem. There were at least 4 jean skirts that looked like this, all stretched. I don't sew, but I know a good hem is hardly noticeable. I posted a photo below twice but message says it did not upload. read more

Working with Triana was a blast, and her craft is of high quality, so I was thoroughly pleased with my dress.

This place has saved multiple articles of clothing that I've loved and worn through from the Goodwill pile. And, it's got great value! I've seriously paid $3 to mend the stitching in my favorite pink blue stripy dress (itself a discard from a Brooklyn thrift shop) or to sew up a hole in the middle of a knitted top. I just got my man's Polo shirt repaired for $3, as well. I've also had the stitching in a hoodie kangaroo pouch pocket repaired, and had the hole in the knees of a $$$ True Religion pair of jeans patched over for $10. I'd recommend this shop to anyone, and I love that it's easily accessible in the LoBurn area of central Austin. read more

She is amazing. I've taken three bridesmaid dresses to her, one was massive on me, another was too small and didn't zip, and she knocked them all out of the park. She really can do it all. I've also taken work slacks, jeans, and other items in to her. Next she'll be doing my wedding dress. She's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. The quality of her work well surpasses any alterations I've had done before. This woman knows her stuff!!! read more

Frankly, I'm a little annoyed. I got this really cool jumpsuit at Buffalo Exchange, but unfortunately it was too long (i'm 5'3, so no surprise there) and so I decided to get it tailored. I almost never do that, but I really liked this jumpsuit (it was v 70s, spaghetti strapped, very cool pattern, etc). Now I paid $20 for this thing, and tailoring it was another $20 (which i thought was kinda steep but idk anything about getting stuff tailored so maybe that's normal). It also took two weeks for them to hem it. I feel like that's a really long time but, again, don't really know the protocol with that sort of thing. So, I came to pick it up after getting it hemmed so it would fit my short ass legs, and they asked me if I wanted to try it on. I didn't want to be a pain and figured it was fine so I said no. That was a mistake! As I found out when I got home, the spaghetti strap at the top had broken on one side of the jumpsuit. I have no idea how this happened, cause they were hemming the bottoms. Honestly, it's possible the strap just fell out, although it seemed pretty stable when I bought it. Anyway, they just knotted it back together, so it was weirdly short on one side and looked weird (and also I mean there was a big knot in it on one side). What I really don't understand is why they didn't just sew it back together -- I mean, they literally have the materials and the expertise to do that and they probably could've fixed it in two seconds and I wouldn't have ever noticed. Instead they just barely patched it together and hoped I wouldn't notice. I had to sew the strap back together myself and obviously i'm not a tailor so it looks kinda shitty. Great...I had pants extensively altered there and the fit for both was great afterwards. I also had her do a few other items, and all turned out great. One of the items, she started and finished on-the-spot. She's the best tailor/altering service I've used in Austin, after trying a few different ones. I had my wedding dress altered here! The good: Their work was amazing (5 stars), my dress ended up absolutely perfect (and fit like a glove). The bad: I had to go for five fittings. I feel like some of them could have been combined. They were expensive, but with this being said, I knew I could trust them with my gown. The annoying: Every time I came for a fitting I was asked about my "work out plan" before the wedding. Even after telling her there was no "work-out plan" (I'm a size 0-2), she continued to ask about it during every visit (yup, every single one of the five). At my second and third fittings I was asked if I recently gained weight or if I was on my period because the dress wouldn't zip. Even as a confident woman, I went home and tried on my tiniest clothes to make sure I hadn't. And sure enough, I had not gained any weight, nor was I bloated. I thought this was extremely unprofessional, and could have been problematic for other extremely stressed, super emotional, or body-sensitive gals. Just something to keep in mind. read more

I have always gone to Triana Tailors when I need alterations to a formal dress or bridesmaid dress but after a few bad experiences I will not be back. Experience #1- I had a long dress that needed to be hemmed. I brought in the heels I would be wearing with it and told them I wanted it a little off the ground. When I went to wear it to an event, it was dragging on the floor and I was tripping over it all night. Experience #2- Bridesmaid dress, again, needed hemming. I get to the wedding and we all go to put on our dresses and I discover that mine no longer has a sash (I had picked it up from them and gone straight to the wedding). I assume they threw it away with the extra material from the dress. I was lucky that another bridesmaid's tailor had given her the extra material from the bottom of her dress and we were able to make this in to a makeshift sash for mine. Experience #3- I had some fabric I wanted made into a garter for my wedding. I brought it in with a picture of exactly what I wanted. They measured my leg, and a few weeks later I picked up my custom garter. On my wedding day, my garter FELL OFF in the middle of the aisle in the church. I wish I was making this up but it's in all of our wedding pictures. They clearly did not make it to the size of my leg and did not make the elastic tight enough. ... For a business that specializes in bridal, you would think that these three errors would be things they would know better. but no. Needless to say I do not plan on returning to Triana Tailors. read more

This isn't so much a review as it an open question. Can someone explain to me the rationale why every tailor in Austin, including Triana are so EXPENSIVE when the quality is so poor? At every local tailor in NYC, whether Chinese, Korean or East European you will have next to perfect work done at far cheaper prices than here. Why is this market so special when it's tiny? I realize that perhaps people do not go to tailors on a regular basis but couldn't we just find an equitable price point. Even in Dallas it's cheaper. Thanks for your advice folks. read more

Very expensive. The alternations quotes were ; a hem is $240 and to be taken in another $280, $96 for beading correction plus a bustle another $120--- all together $750+ tax for alternations. Thank goodness I found someone else :) The customer service seems good but the pricing is high for a bride like me with a $400 max alternation budget. Look around cause I was lucky enough to find someone else to do the work for $400 even... saving me over $375 plus they are keeping my bottom beading work :) read more

I had sent an off-the-rack suit to Triana tailors for the regular men's alterations, like hemming the pants, taking in the sides, and shortening the suit jacket sleeve. I also has 2 separate pairs of pants hemmed. The overall work was OK, but there were a few items that showed the lack of attention to detail: 1. The hemming stitches on the pants were very messy, and not evenly aligned like you see on pants bought off-the-rack that are hemmed. 2. The suit button holes were not aligned with the non-functioning button hole stitches, and the engraved branding on the buttons were not aligned at all on all 4 buttons. This was the original alignment from the manufacturer. Also, the alignment of all 4 buttons relative to each other was not straight. 3. There was a slight run in the material on the back of the jacket, probably from catching something sharp, which fortunately is only obvious up close. This was not present when I dropped off the suit. Therefore, I'll be looking around for another tailor to work on my suits. read more

I've taken quite a few things to Elizabeth to have altered. And I've been pleased with most of them. There have been a few hick-ups, though. You have to understand that her main business comes from the bridal shop upstairs. Her shop bursts at the seems with wedding dresses all year long. So I understand (mostly) when a single alteration on a multi-alteration piece of clothing is forgotten. She doesn't make notes; simply marks your clothing with chalk where the alterations need to be done. So I would recommend you not take tons of clothing all at once. That seems to be when I have the most trouble with alterations being forgotten. When I've taken less than 5 pieces in, everything goes just fine. The first thing I ever took to Elizabeth were three swimsuits I'd purchased, and waited till the last minute to try on. Of course, they were much too big. She was able to alter them for me (which a lot of folks won't do with swimsuit material) within 4 days so I had bathing suits that fit on my cruise. I've also taken a dress to her to have a neat fabric added to the hemline and the belt made-over in the same fabric. It took a little bit (I want to say three weeks?) but the dress looks fabulous. Elizabeth herself is very pleasant and doesn't at all make you feel self-conscious about standing half-naked in front of her. She was equally discreet when fitting my husband. Plus, Saturday hours. That alone makes her worth her weight in gold! read more

Triana Tailors operates like they are the only game in town, unfortunately for them customers have many options for alteration needs. Triana may be a good spot to check out for wedding gowns tailoring, but for basic men's tailoring they are over priced, cannot do rush or quick orders, and overall are not accommodating. Stick to the other Austin options and you will be much off, yes including Barton Creek Mall options. read more

Workmanship is fine, but the general attitude is terrible. They don't really care if you use them or not since they obviously have enough business. I can honestly say that was the absolute worst 'customer service' I've ever been hit with (the older woman in the shop actually got in my face over a mistake THEY made - Yikes). I LOVE Elizabeth. She is AMAZING. We walked in 2 weeks before our wedding, with an ill-fitting suit (what? We bought it from Overstock, what did you expect?). She not only fixed it, but fixed the guayabera my husband was going to wear as well. I know for a fact that was complex work that she did and the price was very reasonable. I'm a short mo-fo and she's the only person I go to shorten my pants. I'm also blessed with ta-ta's and she sews my blouses shut along the buttons (you know to prevent the free show?) for under $5 EACH BLOUSE. Worth every dime! read more

This place was fantastic and close to my apartment. I went in to simply fix some buttons that had come loose off of my jacket which was somewhat new. I've never been to a tailor, save for customizing a suit for my wedding way, way long ago. In spring of 2015, I was facing a dilemma: 4 suits + 1 sports jacket accumulated over the years, but none of them fit well. so, looking at top-rated Yelp tailors in the Austin area, picked Triana based on other reviews. The ladies did not disappoint. After I hauled in my wardrobe, they patiently had me try on every suit and jacket and offered advise. After it was figured out that it simply wasn't worth it to fix the suits (which were a little too 1999, anyhow), they recommended Sacks OFF 5th Fashion Outlet as a great place to get designer suits. Made the drive, found a great suit (retail $1495, sale $399), brought it back in, and they had it for me 4 days later - was leaving on a trip and needed to bring formal wear. so, a great recommendation, a quick turnaround, and, most importantly, a great looking final result. plus, I got to get rid of all the old suits that were just cluttering up the closet! When looking for any sort of help, I want to be talking to a pro who's going to save me time and hassle by doing it once and doing it right. that's exactly what Triana Tailors are and you better believe i'm going there the next time I need something altered. read more

I followed the other posters here when I was searching for a tailor in Austin. They were all right and then some!!! Elizabeth Triana is a jewel and should be appreciated. Not only is she a fabulous tailor, she is pleasant, trusting, and friendly. She also has a very nice staff. I took quite a few items to her and she fitted them to me perfectly. Since then, I have brought things which required minor repairs ( zipper on a dress had come unsewn) and she fixed the item right then and there and, did not charge me!!!! I will be returning often to her shop. Usually, I would not buy something that needed alterations as I often, could not find someone to do the job or when I did, they didn't do really good work. This isn't the case any longer. Oh, and her prices are good, too. read more

I bought a dress at a reduced price because the zipper was busted. The problem was that I wanted to wear it for an evening out the same day I purchased the dress. My husband began calling seamstresses around 4 in the afternoon trying to locate someone who could repair the zipper while we waited. He found Triana Tailors on Burnet. When he called, he discovered that the shop was closed for the day, but they were willing to repair the dress. We arrived to find friendly, inviting folks who repaired the zipper in less than 10 minutes. So? Not only did they repair the zipper in a timely fashion after store hours, but they did not charge us for the work and refused to take even a generous tip! The only caveat was that we bring something in again the next time we need a repair or tailoring done. Excellent customer care! read more

Excellent, high quality tailoring. My husband gets business slacks hemmed here, and I have taken ladies' suit coats for tailoring. Friends in the film and fashion (costume design) industry have told me that Triana is regarded as the best quality tailoring in Austin. There is a difference in the stitching and how the fabric lays when tailoring is done by an accomplished seamstress, and Triana hits the mark. One thing to be aware of is that you will want to keep your ticket when you drop off items because there isn't an electronic tracking system to give you a status update. No big deal, as the focus is on quality work rather than extras. read more

Their customer service is wonderful, and their prices are definitely reasonable. They always set realistic expectations and timelines for when garmets will be ready, and I haven't ever had any issues. Each time I have been here it has been a bit hectic, but I guess that is what a thriving business looks like. There are a lot of brides here and if you come on a day that a bunch of bridesmaids are getting fitted, you might have to wait a while for a dressing room. I actually slipped into one while a bride was looking at her dress in the main room's mirror (with permission of course). I am happy with the work here overall. I will also say that the tailor is honest. She could have charged me more than double to hem this dress, since I wanted the dress hemmed and the color ribbon with bead dangly things put back on. She gave me the price for this, but insisted I not do it since light ribbon makes the legs look shorter on the bottom of a black dress. I hesitated since I liked the light ribbon with beaded dangles. It was part of what made this Betsey Johnson so special. In the end, vanity won out and I went with her much cheaper suggestion. I love the dress without the dangles. It looks much more sophisticated and my legs look long and lean. She has also told me that I did not need a zipper replaced that was giving me some problems. Most people try to sell, sell, sell. She does not. You can trust her. This zipper, however, still gives me a headache. read more

I thought the cost was reasonable considering the amount of alterations they had to do. I recently moved to South Austin, so I probably won't be back, but I definitely recommend them. read more

There was a time in my teens when I thought it would be cool to sew my own clothes and soon I would be living in New York as a famous fashion designer. As I sat screaming at the sewing machine, poking my fingers with pins, and after every hem was in the shape of a boomerang, I decided seamstress/fashion designer was not my calling. Fortunately for me, there is Triana Tailors. Triana's shop is under a bridal boutique, but from what I've seen they can fix, hem, and tailor just about anything. I've had a bridesmaid dress hemmed here, and Triana and her team did a wonderful job (and I hear chiffon is a difficult fabric to work with). I've also taken a summer dress here, and Triana made great suggestions to ensure my dress wouldn't rip again. I've trusted Triana with my favorite pair of jeans, and they were patched up, so I don't have to buy another pair (amen to that!). On top of their excellent seamstress skills, Triana's is affordable. Small fixes, are usually only around $10, and I had my jeans hemmed for only $12. More complicated alternations (such as the bridesmaid dress) are more costly, but well worth it. Most importantly, though, Triana will make your old clothes feel like new and you can look like a well-fitted fashionista without having to learn how to cross stitch (or hem, or figure out how to put that darn thread into your sewing machine). read more

I've used a lot of different tailors in town, and this has been the best for the money, in my opinion. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but they don't hide this information, and quote you a price before you even put on the garment. No surprises. I had them take two pairs of boot cut jeans and turn them into skinny jeans, and they look like I purchased them as such. I tried to do the same thing at another shop, and they kept bring the back seam forward, so it looked horrible. I always get my clothes when I ask for them, but they are a busy shop, so don't expect to pick something up later that afternoon. Give them a day or two. read more

My first experience with a tailor that wasn't for a bridesmaid dress- After losing 10 pounds I had two pairs of slacks from the Gap that needed to be taken in at the waist and butt and decided to have the hem taken up just a bit and the buttons reinforced as well. Brought both pairs in on a Saturday- the very nice ladies had me try them on and made their markings, asked me if I needed them quickly (I did not) so told me to come back the following Saturday for pick up. Came back next Saturday, they were ready and fit absolutely perfectly! Not exactly cheap- $80 total for both pairs, but worth it! Great quality work and excellent fit! read more

They did an amazing job with the two Hugo Boss suits I took there!! Since the Hugo Boss outlets is all about "taking to a good tailor" I was slightly concerned, but I did not feel like spending a fortune for the suits to be tailored at somewhere like Nordstrom. I had taken things to her before (small things), and felt like I could trust them. I am very glad I took my stuff there. I think it was worth the price and they definitely take the time to make sure you have an opinion on what you want it to look like. read more

What a great place. I thought it would be a daunting process having my wedding dress altered, but it wasn't. The dress I purchased was too big, however the vision of my dress started to become a reality with each visit to Triana's. The staff here was attentive and asked me how I felt with each change they were considering. I appreciated how they took the time to explain how the fabric worked and what it's capabilities and limitations were. The process seemed like a puzzle where small changes to bits and pieces added up to an amazing result. The last visit was about a week before my wedding, and I noticed the dress revealed too much of my chest than I felt comfortable with. They assured me it looked fine but could tell I was uncomfortable so they made it a priority to make some last minute changes. I can see how wedding dress alterations can be frustrating at times for both parties, however I never sensed any frustration from them. Everyone there was super patient and knowledgable.
